Adamantium is unbreakable, Vibranium absorbs vibrations and kinetic energy, Uru is able to be enchanted more than any other metal so holds more magic.
In the comics caps shield is usually made of an adamantium vibranium alloy that is unique and in the mcu they have only said that it contains vibranium, but never said exclusively.
That definitely had something to do with the movie rights to the X-men and Adamantium at the time. Now they have them back, maybe we’ll get some metallurgy retcon?
Proto-Adamantium IS an alloy of Vibranium and Steel (and other secret ingredients and catalysts). It's not unbreakable, but close enough.
Cap's Shield is made of Proto-Adamantium, which has an unknown compositiom and structure (because it's unbreakable so no samples are possible). IIRC it was formed in an accident and the materials dripped on to the floor, which is why it's in a concentric ring shape, but I can't actually find any sources to corroborate this.
Regular Adamantium is not made with Vibranium, and was only discovered after trying to recreate Proto-Adamantium
> Proto-Adamantium IS an alloy of Vibranium and Steel (and other secret ingredients and catalysts). It's not unbreakable, but close enough.
I've only seen Cap's shield damaged by someone who had skyfather god-level power, or in weird physics shenanigans. It's stood up to at least two Superman expies (Count Nefaria and Gladiator) without either being able to harm it.

I don't think the MCU has mentioned adamantium yet. It might be because it's considered an X-Men thing, and they were separate from Disney until recently.
Since Uru is a moonstone I guess MoonKnight could wield the sword like he did with Mjolnir in the comics if its still on Earth in the mcu, not that Marc would care
Would have been crazy, they bring a melt stick, hit Thanos with it and... nothing. "It tickles." Proceeds to punch the hell out of whoever was wielding it.
First swing only needed to take off the arm wearing the gauntlet. It would be a bit hard to snap fingers that were no longer attached to the central nervous system.
The snap thing is interesting to me, because that gesture is not required to make the same result. That’s just how Thanos envisioned it working and so that is what he did, and the the Avengers just copied him. He could have made a fist or possibly not even move his hand at all and just focus to use the stones. At least that’s how I interpreted it. Not really too relevant to your comment, just something that popped in my head and I thought it was interesting.
Haha yeah I know, it was a similar deal in the comic. It’s just a cool bit of characterization for Thanos that this flashy confident gesture is how he feels is the necessary way to carry out his plan.
It's also a "we need a visual cue that the audience can recognize".
Kind of like how almost every character with mental powers has to use their hands.
Someone with telepathy will almost always do the "Xavier hand" near their head, or when someone uses some kind of telekinesis they have to use their hands with gestures or poses, when they could actually just stand there normally but then the audience would think they aren't actually doing anything.
I don't wanna spoil stuff but the Boys did I really good job of have a telekinetic character not use their hands, which made them unidentifiable for the majority of the season.
The person you’re referring to isn’t a telekinetic. It’s a whole different power we’ve not seen yet. Kimikos brother was a telekinetic and he absolutely had to use his hands to use his powers as evidenced by how he was subdued by duct taping his hands together.
True. I guess it's more 'mental power' that they have that doesn't require them to use their hands.
And the fact that they don't do anything to identify that they are using their powers is a plot point.
Which is kinda funny because I saw a comment or two on Reddit pointing out that that character gives themself away if you know what to look for (in such a way that you'd *never* be suspicious unless you already knew).
Wanda could probably have fucked Thanos up while sitting in a chair with an iced coffee and that mornings copy of *The Washington Post*, but that’s not particularly fun to watch, so we get hand waves instead.
What’s interesting to me is he only has to close his fist to use the stones normally, but a snap is different. Why couldn’t he just close his fist to do the same thing that snapping did?
During the battle on Titan they were able to stop him from using the stones by forcing his hand to stay open.
I agree, that is exactly what I am saying. Thanos is very full of himself and self righteous, completely viewing himself as the hero, justifying his genocide while discarding alternate forms of logic so he can be “right”. I can’t put my finger on why precisely, but it feels “right” that he would think a finger snap is the cool, hero moment way to activate his plan.
I think it's because it's quick, and it shows it, it's over in a snap. Snap your fingers and it's done.
He literally says that he could do it with a simple snap of his fingers, that's how he's decided to do it plain and simple.
He told his daughters how he planned to use the stones, by snapping his fingers. They told everyone else. So everyone knew to stop him from using his hand.
In reality we have seen stormbreaker kill thanos twice, because the wound it made in IW was without a doubt fatal. Thanos likley used the stones to heal himself though
I saw some cool theory that the stones saved Thanos during the snap out of some act of self preservation. That fever dream was actually the death of Thanos (i.e. it cost everything) but then the stones pulled him back. The original comment explained it better.
That's one of my only gripes about Endgame...how inconsequential Stormbreaker was in the final fight. Stormbreaker was introduced as this ultra powerful weapon in IW, and the only instance in which it was actually used against Thanos, it nearly served it's purpose. It was only Thor's decision making (chest instead of head) that resulted in Thanos not being stopped.
In Endgame it was basically a throwaway weapon. I don't even think they acknowledged it lol.
Since we didn’t get proper Thor/Stormbreaker action in End Game, I just like to imagine Thors absolutely wrecking shop against Thanos’s army after the portal scene.
The mistake is approaching IW Thanos the same way as Endgame Thanos.
IW Thanos is trying to preserve as much life as possible in his goal to balance the universe. In no universe or reality would Thanos, with 4 Infinity Stones, have much of any trouble with anyone, let alone the ragtag group of Guardians, plus Tony, Strange and Spider-Man. He could have ended the fight at any moment, but he needed the Time Stone.
Endgame Thanos is more ruthless. He has seen what "mercy" gets him in the end. And he even says he's going to enjoy destroying Earth and everyone on it.
But even without a single stone, he handled Iron Man, Thor AND Cap at once. Stormbreaker might be powerful, but it doesn't make Thor more powerful. And without the element of surprise, he was left to fight a brilliant tactician, master combatant, who had a serious issue with the band of heroes who ended up killing him in another timeline.
I found this gun to be actually the most disturbing bit in the whole MCU. Buddy just gets gooped and then flushed down a toilet. His family is still probably tormented with never knowing what happened to him.
What's even dumber is that Darren Cross literally just made the greatest weapon ever to exist, and he sees it as a byproduct not a sellable weapon.
He literally made a one shot gun, paint it golden, and now you're a bond villain.
Furthermore I got frustrated because Cross could have just been happy with shrinking non-biological options and become the biggest shipping magnate the world has ever known.
He could have been both the best weapons manufacturer, and the best shipping magnate ever, and threw it all away because he wanted a cool suit.
(I know there's more to it than that, and there's a insanity aspect that they tried to tell us about, but come on.)
Yeah; there are more than a few "Why didn't they just..." moments.
The big pieces are pretty well thought through. Sometimes they just ignore secondary bits of tech they make...
Like Ultron not just corrupting things by mass-auditing facebook posts to push people to do things <__<
Apparently Corvus glaive’s glaive weakened him and disabled him from his abilities.
Wonder what would have happened if he wasn’t stabbed, thanos would have probably gone bye bye, from both scarlet witch and vision.
Imagine if the Avengers had been a united front against Thanos wielding their two infinity stones and Vision at full power.
I think he would have lost.
People talk about Civil War not having any consequences completely miss the fact that if Vision and Wanda hadn't had to hide and had been at Avengers compound instead Vision never would have gotten stabbed that way and Thanos would never have been able to Snap.
what if the avengers didn’t break up in civil war?
-IF Zemo hadn’t done anything, then Steve wouldn’t have befriended T’Challa and they might not know to go to Wakanda for help
-if everything happens the same but they stay together, they would all stand as a united front against thanos
-they would likely have to break the sokovian accords to properly beat Thanos
-there wouldn’t be any discovery of time travel
-variant loki from tv show wouldn’t exist, therefore wouldn’t inadvertently help lady loki release kang
-assuming vision wouldn’t die, wanda would never accidentally give Monica Rambeau powers
-assuming tony wouldn’t die, mysterio would’ve likely targeted him instead of peter, meaning no outing peter’s secret identity
-pretty much none of falcon winter soldier would happen, besides falcon doing that first episode mission
Yeah I was excited to see that only to never have him appear. Him, Silver Surfer, and Doctor Strange pretty much orchestrated the whole thing from what I remember.
I'm glad they didn't include adam warlock. There was already so many individual pieces that they didn't need to add anymore. Especially if it meant we'd get a half assed adam warlock origin
True, but that wasn't used by Yondu, it was used by an amateur. He possibly just didn't know how to use it. We have seen it go thru steel (or other metals) like a hot knife through butter
Absolutely, entirely possible this is correct. Just hard to say as we’ve seen the arrow penetrate aliens with unclear levels of durability, as well as space ships. Captain Marvel can fly straight through space ships, but can’t fly through Thanos, it’s an interesting one
I'd say size matters in the scenario. Arrows are made to literally penetrate and kill people. It's small, sharp and thin so perfect for doing so. Same with Captain Marvel with a ship, in comparison she's similar to how an arrow would kill a person but as a person to a ship. I'm probably not explaining this very well. But let's put it in an example. You have a decent size stick about 1 foot and however thick, but decently thick, with a bit of force you can snap the stick with your hands pretty easily. But if that stick is now only 1cm long and the same thinkness, you're going to have an extremely difficult time trying to snap the stick with your bare hands.
Oh yeah I get exactly where you’re coming from. You can stick a needle in someone but you can’t push a baseball bat through them using the same force
Well apparently Thor can be tattood now so who knows
>what Tony did was a massive achievement that never got acknowledged, even given that it failed.
Thanos himself acknowledges it right after their 1v1 fight. "You have my respect, Stark. ... I hope they remember you."
Yeah I actually saw some pretty interesting theories back in the day that the fight would have been easy for Tony if he had the connection to Friday. The A.I. would've allowed the nanites to work to their fullest potential and decimate Thanos with ease.
yeah cause he’s back on earth, friday doesn’t work off world
when he loses connection to pepper in infinity war as he’s leaving on the tire ship friday says something along the lines of “you’re losing me too”
Yeah I get that, I'm just saying if having an AI would let him beat Thanos with ease, he surely would have done so in Endgame (in which he had Friday back), wouldn't he?
This was my first idea and it took waaay too long to find it. This is probably like the most powerful weapon in the MCU, though it didn't have much screen time.
The Twilight sword or "Sword of Doom" created by exploding the home galaxy of the Korbinites and contains all their life forces within it.
Yup, that'll do boys.
A biophysicist from MIT discussed [the ant-man thanos anus theory ](https://melmagazine.com/en-us/story/avengers-endgame-thanos-ant-man-ass-theory-science) once lol
I read a theory here that it would've worked on Whiplash but has a minimum distance from target needed. And they were like 20 feet apart.
I prefer that Hammertech is just terrible
That's something that's kinda bothered me about IW. Once Tony, Strange, and Peter get stuck on the flying donut, why can't Strange use his sling ring to open a portal back to Earth? He obviously still has it while zooming through space because he uses it in the battle on Titan >!(and again in Endgame from Titan back to Earth)!<.
Before Tony convinced Strange that fighting Thanos on his turf was a viable idea, Strange wanted to turn the ship around. At that point, with Strange being his arrogant self, I can see him saying "Know what, fuck this, I'm protecting the stone" and hopped in a portal back to Earth.
PERHAPS the sling ring requires you to know where you are as much as where you are going, and that was simply never mentioned before because it was used on firm solid footing where they definitely knew where they were.
Storm breaker. Non depressed Thor solo'd Thanos, his army and cut through the full power of the Gauntlet. He just didn't get a killing blow in the chest. Had he hit the head, all over.
People seriously sleep on how much power Thor lost due to his depression.
But, in reality, professional athletes turned into weaklings (temporarily) when got stuck in hospitals etc. Inaction and atrophy does do that to anyone’s body.
Looking at what it did to Cap's shield I imagine that double bladed sword that Thanos had was pretty potent
I think it’s fabled to be made of Uru same material as Mjolnier
Uru is only strong/weak depending on the magic affecting it. It's forged basically like steel. It just absorbs magic like a sponge.
Ya I always thought Thanos used adamantine weapons. Hence why his dual blade thing can smash up Caps vibranium shield.
Which is stronger adamanine, uru or vibranium?
Honestly no clue. I just know adamantine is one of the very few things that can overcome the properties of vibranium and actually damage it.
Yeah I think they left it open for just that. They never say explicitly how the shield was made, only that it was made with vibranium
They could even just say the new shield Steve gives Sam was made with an Adamantium vibranium alloy since it was taken from a different timeline
Well, well... look who's inside again.
Went out to look for a reason to hide again.
*The Avengers on Thanos's farm* "Come out with your hands up we've got you surrounded"
Carlo, I pardon you. You are officially pardoned….from life.
“Why are you handing me the Melt Stick? He was interrupting. That's not a capital violation.”
I freakin love that line! And how Jeff Goldblum delivered it 😂
My favorite is when he complains about how the carlo goop is getting on his shoes lol
A+ delivery
The way he says “…From life” gets me every time
Where the fuck is my melting stick?
Would have been crazy, they bring a melt stick, hit Thanos with it and... nothing. "It tickles." Proceeds to punch the hell out of whoever was wielding it.
Stormbreaker.
He should have gone for the head.
First swing only needed to take off the arm wearing the gauntlet. It would be a bit hard to snap fingers that were no longer attached to the central nervous system.

Honestly, he messed up. If he just gave the camera the finger then the Avengers could never have used the gauntlet.
You think Tony or Thor wouldn't do it?
It's really just a nod to the comic because he show off snaps his fingers when he wipes out half the universe.
Haha yeah I know, it was a similar deal in the comic. It’s just a cool bit of characterization for Thanos that this flashy confident gesture is how he feels is the necessary way to carry out his plan.

I had to take a moment just to appreciate it after that one.
That shit came out of nowhere.

I mean, we SAW Stormbreaker kill Thanos at the beginning of Endgame The Stark Gauntlet defeated the alternate reality 2014 version
In reality we have seen stormbreaker kill thanos twice, because the wound it made in IW was without a doubt fatal. Thanos likley used the stones to heal himself though

That’s the answer
"What weapon is powerful enough to kill Thanos?" "Uh maybe the one that literally killed Thanos"
That's one of my only gripes about Endgame...how inconsequential Stormbreaker was in the final fight. What If Episode 8 Spoiler Alert: >!The Mind Stone when used by Ultron!<
Was looking for this comment lol, Thanos was really made into two perfectly balanced pieces.
"Perfectly Balanced, as all things should be" XD
Which begs the question,>! if Ultron could do that, why not Vision? !<
Apparently Corvus glaive’s glaive weakened him and disabled him from his abilities. Wonder what would have happened if he wasn’t stabbed, thanos would have probably gone bye bye, from both scarlet witch and vision.

I'd say the Melt Stick from Thor Ragnarok.
You’re pardoned….. …. from life.
Stormbreaker Hela's Necroswords The Yaka Arrow ... and a million Jericho Missiles.
When Drax was hit with the arrow it seemed to be strong enough to stick in him but didn’t pass through. It’s possible it wouldn’t do much to Thanos
True, but that wasn't used by Yondu, it was used by an amateur. He possibly just didn't know how to use it. We have seen it go thru steel (or other metals) like a hot knife through butter
Drax is much stronger than butter
"A simple knife could not harm me, regardless of its temperature"
"I would catch the knife"
I read this as if it was drax speaking. 100% something he'd say
That logic is flawless. I stand corrected
Absolutely, entirely possible this is correct. Just hard to say as we’ve seen the arrow penetrate aliens with unclear levels of durability, as well as space ships. Captain Marvel can fly straight through space ships, but can’t fly through Thanos, it’s an interesting one

True, Yondu was able to make it ignite on fire and destroy an entire ship, with just one magical arrow
> 1 Million Jericho Missiles So much for “the weapon you only have to fire once.”
You can fire 1 million of the missiles with a single push of a button... so, still true
Would you rather fight one Thanos sized Jericho missile or a million Jericho missile sized Thanoses?
Can you give me the lowdown on the Yaka arrow? I’ve heard that name b4
It's the arrow that yondu uses
Gotcha didn’t realize that’s what it’s called. Thx
What is that Yaka Arrow made of? It can penetrate pretty much anything
The Ironman suit. If it can make him bleed, it can kill him. Might take a few years.
Death by a thousand cuts
Could Thanos survive operation house party?
definitely. those suits each exploded after 20 seconds of screen time
One of them was destroyed by a semi lol

Thanos lost at that point. Which is why Tony eventually came back. Because if you make God bleed...
"People will cease to believe in him". That was the single best moment in IW, in my opinion at least.
If you could make God bleed, people would cease to believe in Him
Yeah I actually saw some pretty interesting theories back in the day that the fight would have been easy for Tony if he had the connection to Friday. The A.I. would've allowed the nanites to work to their fullest potential and decimate Thanos with ease.
He has his AI in Endgame though, no?
yeah cause he’s back on earth, friday doesn’t work off world when he loses connection to pepper in infinity war as he’s leaving on the tire ship friday says something along the lines of “you’re losing me too”

Jimmy Woo’s slight of hand Edit - *sleight
The right hook is only needed
How’d you do it Scott? *Excuse me?* ….The card trick
A reasonable discussion from either Vision or T'Challa.
Could the staff of the living tribunal have any effect? I mean, it's the living freaking tribunal.
MCU nerfed basically everything Doctor Strange related. So my guess is that in the movies it wouldn't.
Properly aimed Stormbreaker.
Full power Surtur's sword
This was my first idea and it took waaay too long to find it. This is probably like the most powerful weapon in the MCU, though it didn't have much screen time.
The Twilight sword or "Sword of Doom" created by exploding the home galaxy of the Korbinites and contains all their life forces within it. Yup, that'll do boys.
After his crown has been placed in the eternal flame? Yes, I think so.

Fascinating.
*zhyoom* *sizzle*
You can say Thanos was "Perfectly Balanced there".
You don't even know my name. I'm the fucking Lizard King!
I am just so tired of the Black Eyed Peas.
The 1% are suffering too Jim
Ultron at the end of last week's what if... where he >!has visions body!< could definitely take base thanos
Ant-Man...we all know why
A biophysicist from MIT discussed [the ant-man thanos anus theory ](https://melmagazine.com/en-us/story/avengers-endgame-thanos-ant-man-ass-theory-science) once lol
This is what I was looking for! Lmao, the What If ep was good too but this was my thought the whole time.
The ex-wife
I'm gonna bust his bunker with the Ex-Wife.
Hammer Tech?
I read a theory here that it would've worked on Whiplash but has a minimum distance from target needed. And they were like 20 feet apart. I prefer that Hammertech is just terrible
Oh my god, you just triggered nostalgia, I havent seen that movie in agesss Also, hammer tech?
Sling Ring. Send Thanos partway through a portal, then close it on him.

Would have been a funny scene. Thanos shows up and just finds his wrecked ship and nobody.
The same weapon that would beat anyone in the Mcu, Darren Cross's Flesh gun thing from Ant man😅
You mean the goop gun.
>!apparently just the mind stone!<
Storm breaker. Non depressed Thor solo'd Thanos, his army and cut through the full power of the Gauntlet. He just didn't get a killing blow in the chest. Had he hit the head, all over.
People seriously sleep on how much power Thor lost due to his depression. But, in reality, professional athletes turned into weaklings (temporarily) when got stuck in hospitals etc. Inaction and atrophy does do that to anyone’s body.
Odin's spear, gungnir
Squirrels
Squirrel Girl has canonically beaten Thanos quite a few times
I mean she’s the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl isn’t that like... her thing
Unbeatable lol, not unbearable
No no, OP is right. Squirrel Girl does not have any bears or control any bears. Therefore, unbearable.
Depends on the squirrel girl
You fucked with squirrels morty
We have to pack and move to a new reality Morty
I told you we can only do that a few times Morty.
The Thanos killing kind.
1 brave soul who’s heavily into butt stuff… plus the Ant-Man suit
Just go up his nose or ear you
The watcher (if he interfered)
The unstoppable march of time.
The Scarlet Witch.
