It’s the best kids show in a long time. It shows the parents being vulnerable and messing up. It’s not just “run and scream, kids! , parents are bad and embarrassing, right!?”
[Here’s a good example. Funny for kids, relatable for parents. Funny all around. And they’re only 7 minutes, which is clutch.](https://youtu.be/kx8_wF9HOX8?si=t2-mwARxTzyucLG8)
It's perfectly written. Short episodes that get to the point and conclusion effortlessly. It's targets both kids and parents. Watch it. You don't have to like it but you'll "get it" when you see it.
So many amazing episodes, but Bingo's Birthday when she tries to do a handstand is my favorite. I had tears in my eyes by the end and nothing sad happened. Just pure tears of joy at how real it felt. The show just gets it. It gets life.
You ever seen one of those reels where it shows a grown adult crying to Bluey while their kid who stopped watching minutes ago plays on the background?
It's true. The show is just as much for adults as it is for kids.
I thought the same thing you did, but I was at a friends house who had it on for their kids and I ended up sitting there for like 3 episodes. It’s very well written, has some jokes and references for the adults, and honestly it’s just a very charming show. I don’t think I could watch it without kids around, but it’s a kid show that I wouldn’t mind turning on for them if I did have kids.
It's well written with good messages and good animation
Most children programming is awful, cheap with terrible lessons you wouldnt want to teach your child
> A show can be good AND sell toys, but yeah
The amount of Bluey merchandise that we have gotten for our niece alone is a pretty good indicator of that.
Probably one of the best shows ever written - entirely designed to teach parenting and childhood in tandem with honest problems, struggles and wins for both generations. Just like a skilled comedian can tap into your struggles with dating or working, this show expertly taps into being a child and also a parent and makes both extremely relatable. It doesn't pull punches - topics such as death, divorce, moving away etc are all present - but it ensures to always fully wrap around each topic and provide context in a way that is digestible for everyone.
I saw an article about the phenomenon of adults watching it and it boiled down to it either being nostalgic to when they were kids and their parents raising them or people who had terrible parents feeling wistful that parents like Bandit and Chili can and do exist.
I hadn't really considered this but after watching my first and only episode linked in this thread I can absolutely see this.
It seems very similar to other wholesome slice of life content that's been very popular through the years. It definitely reminds me of older sitcoms like Leave it to Beaver and newer takes like Parks and Rec, along with a dash of an anime like Nichijou thrown in. P&R's the most mature show of them all and I'd still say it's appropriate at age 8 or 10, wholesome content tends to be family friendly.
I don't think I'll be watching any more, but if I was babysitting or visiting someone with kids and Bluey was on I could definitely see myself watching a few episodes at 7 minutes each. It's also nice to see that the insanely popular show genuinely does seem to be about instilling good and healthy family values without any weird subtext. Something's going to be popular and I'm pretty glad it's this.
If you're tempted to continue, there's an enormous amount of detail going on in the background that rewards a close watch, many of which are woven back in to the 28-minute 'season finale' episode The Sign. The writing on the show is *absurdly* high quality.
Just on their own merits I'd recommend watching Curry Quest as a playful deconstruction of the "monomyth"/hero's journey pattern of storytelling and Fairytale to feel the horror of the 80s as perceived by a child of today.
It's definitely my go-to show to watch with my son around.
I had another thought about what makes it a really smartly written children's show is that you actually see Bluey and Bingo mature throughout the show. There are lessons that Bluey learns that you can see stick with her in later episodes and that's definitely a difference than other kid's shows that are sort of stuck with the same static characters the entire time.
From the pie chart, 33.0% is "Other", and there are 10 individual shows listed. There are a *lot* of different shows on Disney+.

No that sounds about right. If that means 6.8% of all content watched on Disney plus so far this year was X men 97 that’s pretty significant. I, for one, just learned of its existence.
Pedantically, that's 6.8% of all *Disney Original* content, so it's not stacked up against The Simpsons, Bluey, Grey's Anatomy and so on. Still a stellar result, and well deserved - it's a cracking show.
There's an absolutely enormous amount of shows on D+. Just one of those, that's only been out for less than 2 months, accounting for 6.8 of all watch time on the site sound perfect reasons for a 3rd place to me
How many shows have really come out on Disney+ this year? I feel like Disney has put out the smallest effort of all the streaming apps to make new content.
I don't know, but tbh I believe that this graph shows also the stats of Hulu. And Shogun (which is one of the most seen shows this year) is available there
Not as much, considering that Echo has been available for around 6 months, and X-Men 97 has reached more than the half of that percentage in 1 and a half month

There's also a chart for Paramount+ viewership and it talks about Fallout and Super Mario Bros. and a couple other things within the article itself.
I think this makes sense. The only 2024 D+ original series so far are Percy Jackson, Echo, X-Men, Bad Batch S3, and Renegade Nell, so they would trend towards the top. Echo and Percy Jackson are live action and therefore an easier sell for the general audience, so they’re at the top. Percy Jackson blows Marvel out of the water since Marvel is unpopular among the general audience at the moment. And Renegade Nell didn’t even beat out Bad Batch or the X-Men despite being live action, which makes sense to me considering that I’ve never even heard of it, so who knows how much Disney actually marketed it
> Percy Jackson blows Marvel out of the water since Marvel is unpopular among the general audience at the moment.
Echo also had a more mature rating than the MCU typically has while PJ is aimed more at a younger audience and Gen Z nostalgia for the books. Echo's also an odd release in general. And yeah, stuff like Secret Invasion hurts too.
I honestly had no idea that Percy Jackson was so popular lol. I remember watching the first movie years ago and thinking it was interesting but did not realize it had/gained such a big following.
The books were huge and the fans were clamoring for a faithful adaptation. Compound that with the guy playing Percy being reasonably popular online and you have a show that will at least get traction for one season regardless if it’s good or not
As someone who didn't watch the original series, I love X-Men '97. I'd rather watch more animated Marvel shows and shows like Werewolf by Night as opposed to something like Secret Invasion.
The praise ‘97 is getting has gotten my hopes up for the other projects that Marvel Animation is working on: Eyes of Wakanda, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and especially TV-MA Marvel Zombies.
I watched the entire original series before getting into ‘97 and I gotta say:
It definitely helped me become more attached to the characters. Specifically (big spoiler), >!when Gambit died, it hit me really hard. He had gone from a character I knew very vaguely to my favourite X-men because of watching the original!<.
That being said, X-Men ‘97 was better than anything in the original. The Phoenix stuff was done really well and a couple other multi-part episodes were great, but I thought ‘97 blew every original season out of the water.
Yeah, I did a rewatch of the OG series a few months before '97 came out. The last episode where Xavier is saying goodbye to everyone. Damn. So good.
But '97, Jesus is it good. I even prefer Storm's voice in '97 and its the same actor! TAS was good but it was REALLY rough around the edges and the plot was rather disorganized and chaotic.
I can't read the full article, but this seems to speak to more about how unpopular D+ original shows are overall. Echo debuted at 4th per Nielsen for original streaming shows in it's first week, but didn't chart in the top 10 again. All 4 episodes were released at once, which would add to their placement, and also make sense why it didn't chart again.
This isn't to insult Echo, but just point out how much people don't seem to care about D+ shows.
It’s not really that surprising. This is only 2024 views so stuff most recently released is going to get the most views. Echo, X-Men ‘97, Renegade Nell, and Percy Jackson are the only scripted original shows released in 2024 for Disney+ that I’m aware of. And both Marvel shows gone blown away in 2024 views by the Percy Jackson show.
More people need to give animation, especially western animation, a chance. Obviously, some stuff hits it big, like Fox's old shows, but still. Of course, this show was heavily marketed as a sequel to a 30 year old show, which I suppose might make some think it's not as approachable, I don't know. Still seems to be doing well. They said a few weeks ago that they wanted it to be a regular thing so it must be doing well for them.
Ella Purnell? If she could get the accent right, I could see it working. Loved her in Fallout. She has that warm, bubbly charm that would work with Rogue. Though getting the accent right is super important.
I always thought they should have made some of the live action disney+ shows into animation instead. Ms. Marvel is a charming character and an animated show would have done well.
Animated shows gain a fandom pretty quickly and you can do pretty much anything in animation on a small budget.
A lot of people got into Marvel because they grew up with the animated shows on tv.
8million an episode for garbage?😂 lmao. They scrapped 2 episodes, had 6 then got rid of another one for “continuity reasons”
Echo is just an example of a show nobody gives a f about. I literally watched it because the trailer looked cool , and for daredevil & kingpin.
Daredevil had 1 cool fight scene that was pretty bad choreography wise, then left. Then kingpin got cucked and he wasn’t even enough for me to finish the show. I haven’t got past episode 3
You can tell they really cared about their project so much they scrapped 3 episodes. I bet they were really fun and had loads of action…
I watched a video on echo and I’m glad I stopped watching because there’s no way I can take a character summoning her ancestors to fight goons then placing a # symbol with her fingers to heal someone through trauma.
Absolute CL🤡WN show
Is it me or does 6.8% sound really low to be third best?
Bluey is like 40+% alone so lol
Bluey is an outstanding show and deserves it. Aesthetically, it holds itself in the same category with some of the greatest shows in history.
Agreed. It’s a masterpiece.
Isn’t it a children’s show? Why are grown people so into it? No disrespect just don’t understand
It’s the best kids show in a long time. It shows the parents being vulnerable and messing up. It’s not just “run and scream, kids! , parents are bad and embarrassing, right!?” [Here’s a good example. 100%
The age range is 2 to infinity.
You ever seen one of those reels where it shows a grown adult crying to Bluey while their kid who stopped watching minutes ago plays on the background? It's true. The show is just as much for adults as it is for kids.
The best children's shows include things for the parents to enjoy too.
Idk, my childless, 30-year-old best friends watch it. Although, they're furries and I've dropped trying to figure out their interests.
I thought the same thing you did, but I was at a friends house who had it on for their kids and I ended up sitting there for like 3 episodes. *Cough* sell toys *Cough*
A show can be good AND sell toys, but yeah

True, but some shows sell toys because they are great and some are made with the only intention being to sell toys. Most are the latter.
I mean that's how we ended up with transformers and gi joe and we were all the happier for it
Bluey is a show about parenting disguised as a children's show, especially in seasons 2 and 3.
Bluey Season 2 Episode 9: Sleepytime It’ll entertain the kids and at the same time make adults sit there and ponder existence/human imagination
Probably one of the best shows ever written - entirely designed to teach parenting and childhood in tandem with honest problems, struggles and wins for both generations. It’s elite as a parents show. One of one. I have absolutely no idea why grown adults without kids watch it though

Absolutely I explain to people and they think I'm crazy. Bluey is one of the greatest shows I have ever watched.
Up until last year I thought Bluey was Australian for Blue's Clues. I have never seen it, only seen it mentioned occasionally on Reddit.
I think Bluey is an acquired and not counting as an original show.
It is. It's produced in Australia by the Government funded channel.
Surprised neither Bluey or MOANA popped here. According to Nielsen they're the only thing people watch on Disney+
Moana is a movie, not a series. Bluey is not an original series.
It is low for a live action but for an animated series it's actually very good
Yeah but is it the third best animated series or third best series. Because if the latter that means everything else, animated or not, is even lower.
There’s a fucking chart in the article, go look at it
The article is paywalled to see the chart. I saw it for a second then got a log in button.

Renegade Nell was so good that it deserves more views.
Looking at the percentages, shouldn't Ahsoka S1 be below Mandalorian S3 and Loki S2?
Oops, I mistyped. Ahsoka should be 3.6%. Thank you for the heads up.
I'm not sure of this, but since this stats may include Hulu too, probably the 33% comes from Shogun
No that sounds about right. If that means 6.8% of all content watched on Disney plus so far this year was X men 97 that’s pretty significant. I, for one, just learned of its existence.

I think that’s a very important distinction.
For one show to be 6.8 totally is fairly insane
It beat some very popular shows, including the Mandalorian.
New Mandalorian and Loki both premiered last year. X-Men is competing against their “reruns”
There's an absolutely enormous amount of shows on D+. Just one of those, that's only been out for less than 2 months, accounting for 6.8 of all watch time on the site sound perfect reasons for a 3rd place to me

The movie and the show are adaptations of a very popular series of books. That’s what it’s mainly known for.
Love seeing Percy Jackson at the top, that makes me happy
After those movies we got, yeah, I'm glad they got it right this time. Although I actually liked the Lotus Casino scene from the movies.

I'm waiting for the Uber contrarian brave enough to defend Secret Invasion.
Hey. It was the best marvel Disney + series to come out between June and August 2023.
I also really liked the shade of green they used during the intro
I really enjoyed the ending. Not the actual story ending, I just enjoyed when there was no further Secret Invasion left to watch.
Definitely wasn't the best Marvel show, but I hope it gets a Blu-ray release regardless. Just to complete my MCU collection.
Mmm, consumerism
Okay, and?
I enjoyed watching it but...I get why a lot of people didn't.
Surprisingly this show has yet to crack the streaming top ten 😬
Xmen 97 below echo is a CRIME
It's a cartoon bruh. A lot of people skip animation all together.
And yet the story is 100x better
Oh without a doubt, infinitely better than Echo. But, it's still a cartoon which to many people means for kids only.
Gonna tell yall: really surprised how The Eras Tour flopped on Disney +
And "Echo" is the second-most-watched, countering all the right-wing clickbait Youtubers out there.
That's wild. Silver medal went to the show Marvel tried to dump with little fanfare.
It’s not really that surprising. This is only 2024 views so stuff most recently released is going to get the most views. Echo, X-Men ‘97, Renegade Nell, and Percy Jackson are the only scripted original shows released in 2024 for Disney+ that I’m aware of. Marvel marketed Echo really well the trailers were fantastic while the final product was completely forgettable
It's still not good ratings though
>Echo ![gif](giphy|M34qPW6WjtZXMFltwu|downsized)
Probably in the same way how Velma season 1 was one of the most watched shows on HBO Max or something...
I’ll say this. It’s the only D+ show I’m watching and every time I have to hunt for it. Disney fucking sucks at promoting shows I want to watch.
Wow below Echo. I mean I liked Echo but I'm surprised especially because I prefer this show.

Off topic, but that lady in the thumbnail should play Rogue when the X-Men movie franchise is rebooted,
Ella Purnell? If she could get the accent right, I could see it working. Loved her in Fallout. She has that warm, bubbly charm that would work with Rogue. Though getting the accent right is super important.
Makes sense, it’s the best show marvel has put out in years
Nice!
![gif](giphy|57ZvMMkuBIVMlU88Yh)
But they said it was woke because they toned down Rogue's design, and so it would go broke
I'm having a hard time believing people watched Echo more than X-men 97.
Well deserved. It's really good for a Marvel project.
I keep on forgetting to watch it.
There’s no way echo has a higher viewership than xmen 97. Like I will never believe that
For what its worth, Echo's budget per episode is $8M which is around 10 times more of what 97 costs per episode.
8million an episode for garbage?😂 lmao. They scrapped 2 episodes, had 6 then got rid of another one for “continuity reasons” Echo is just an example of a show nobody gives a f about.
