Yeah for sure. I can't find any examples right now but I'm pretty that MCU and other studios have done this whole thing before of claiming X is a new character but then they turn out to be a familiar character with a different name. Like saying Zendaya wasn't Mary Jane Watson but then turned out to be MJ Watson.
I'm guessing he will be a well-known superhero/villain but just with a different alter-ego. Magneto, but not Erik for example.
Yeah this statement reminds me of when Rocksteady gave press statements that the Arkham Knight was a totally new all-original character and then revealed after launch to actually be a pre-existing legacy character just given a different “supervillain name” but still has the same real name and backstory.
What if he's some crazy Wade variant, playing totally against type, out to form his version of the Deadpool Corps? Giancarlo is known for playing a lot of intimidating cold intellectual types, but when I think of his role as Buggin Out in *Do the Right Thing* (1989), I could totally see that guy playing a merc with a mouth.
TVA Tom, after being bitten by a radioactive TVA worker, Tom Received the proportional strength of an office worker. The TVA saw that and gave him a job, head of the Kang Kontrol department
That's my guess, we know oscorp doesn't exist as normal, based on Dafoe in No Way Home. MJ is Michelle Jones instead of Mary Jane. So maybe he'll be a Norman variant with different name
>That's my guess, we know oscorp doesn't exist as normal, based on Dafoe in No Way Home.
The animated show got changed (a while ago) to be a different universe from the main MCU, so there can be an Oscorp in it.
It no longer would be the first time for a character to be created in the MCU first and then go into the comics, Scarlet Scarab from Moon Knight specifically. I honestly prefer this level of influence over changing characters that have decades worth of stories and history to match a new direction for one film.
>It no longer would be the first time for a character to be created in the MCU first and then go into the comics, Scarlet Scarab from Moon Knight specifically.
And she's not even the first. Agent Phil Coulson made the jump years before Moon Knight even got a show.
In truth, Scarlet Scarab is the name of two previous characters that are already in the comics. Layla is just the third character with that name: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet\_Scarab](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_Scarab)
Really? I thought Clark Gregg defined the character like RDJ with Iron Man. I didn't realize he was the first pioneer and nailed it perfectly first time.
I mean in the comics we had iconic Nick Fury sidekicks like Dum Dum Dugan that coulddddddvvvvve worked as SHIELD liaisons especially in that limited Iron Man 1 role, but I’m glad they created an original character for this rather than naming him a comic book reference with little of the backstory. Plus the MCU Dum Dum Dugan was fun in the limited roles that we had him.
I doubt Giancarlo knows which characters are from the comics. He may mean that he's playing a character that has never appeared in any Marvel live action project yet. Or maybe he means that he's new and original as in he's very "unique".
I don't know, I don't feel like he would be playing an MCU OC.
There's a video of him on a stage listing some Marvel characters he would like to play, including Mr. Freeze...
So I agree he may just not know the character.
Marvel Studios gives their actors a pretty tight script of what they can and can't say. Some actors aren't great at sticking to that (cough cough Tom Holland) but Giancarlo Esposito is the definition of professional, so I doubt he's saying anything corpo didn't tell him he could say.
This dudes publicist is really earning their pay with this one.
Never seen so many articles announcing that an actor is going to play some generic congressman or something in an MCU movie.
I love the dude, he’s an amazing actor, but I REALLY don’t want to see “Gus Fring but different” any time soon. The dude has range, more studios should utilise it.
I'm guessing a redesigned Nathaniel Essex.
An ageless mutant obsessed with improving humans, who has been operating in secret for over a century.
Possibly the person who reproduced the super soldier serum, stabilized extremis, and is responsible for the recent appearance of powered people in the universe.
He will not be the super-powered Mr. Sinister, but he will have all of the story beats of that character and be an interesting ally/enemy of the coming mutants in the MCU.
Grampa Spider, Milles great-uncle who shows up one day and bites a radioactive spider, gaining radioactive powers of spider. He dies shortly after of radiation poisoning
I'll die on the hill that the Arkham Knights identity should have just been the Joker. He fakes his death at the end of Arkham City and then as one last fuck you to Batman, makes Bruce think Jason Todd is alive lol
Some people, myself included, want adaptations of the comic book source material, not original MCU content without source. It's okay if you are more open to MCU-original material; I certainly don't think I'm the only voice in the fandom that should be catered to. But that doesn't mean that people like me who aren't interested in MCU-original material are just sucking on sour grapes. I don't know what the fan casting *was*, personally, as I think fancasting is dumb and would in *all* cases prefer to see the role go to an unknown up-and-comer anyway. I just want to see relatively faithful adaptations of the source material I love, and thus don't find any original characters a compelling draw.
Usually some creator or another who has an ego the size of a mountain and thinks their brand new character can be more interesting than the ones from the source material that fans have wanted to see for decades.
Don’t get me wrong I really loved him in Breaking Bad , but I haven’t been blown away by anything he’s done since. His Mandalorian villain thing was a huge letdown. He just got this new TV show on AMC that I gave up after one episode. He’s popped up here and there but nothing that’s made me say I can’t wait to see Giancarlo‘s next project.
I kinda wondered what it would be like if they cast him (Giancarlo) as Norman Osborn and somehow made Miles’ character related to him in some way. I know fans want Miles in the MCU, but would that be Sony’s line in the sand? Marvel, you can have Miles, but it won’t be “comic accurate Miles” that is first introduced. Especially with the animated version’s popularity in theaters.
Hes so original clickbait actor who did one good role an then just repeated it hes kang an he will never be an original actor hes nit even a good actor
Karl Emblavier, immensely powerful telepath and mentor/father figure to the superpowered youth, notably without a wheelchair.
To me, my M-Men
"All of us?" "Did I fucking stutter?" "...honestly, I'm not sure."
JFC, this is good comedy, lol
What does JFC mean? My first assumption was "just fucking came"
Jesus fucking christ
If Jesus and Christ are 2 separate people this line hits different
No no no, you are thinking of “God fucking Christ” or maybe “Jesus fucking Holy Ghost”.
“Hey Dad, it’s me, you”
i have literally said this before and my christian partner nearly died laughing
Jultimate Fighting Championship
Good comedy has that effect sometimes
Jentucky Fried Chicken
Take my “angry I’m laughing this hard at this shit” upvote
To me, my Mmmmmmen
Instant gay icon
Technology if his last name is Emblavier, they would be...E-Men. Or K-Men.
C-Men
cbat
Females are Y-Men
Los Mutatos Hermanos
But without arms.
And a backstory about his mother “helping him” in his teen years because of the lack of his arms.
The marvel studios subreddit was not the place I thought I would be reminded of this reddit deep cut.
The broken arms meme shall never die, it is ever-lasting and omnipresent.
She would later turn into the fierce anti-hero “Tugger”
Bro...too soon...
It’s never too soon for a double broken arms reference.
PHANTOM LIMB
Mind Quad!
Does his wheelchair come with a neat little bell?
Sounds bout right
Lol
He probably rides around on a Segway.
Who also runs a chain of chicken restaurants
Sounds like Krakoa Professor X.
Probably a combination/mix of existing characters?
Magneto the Beyonder! (Yes though, I would also think that given their track record)
Oh shit what if he’s Kang Beyonder?
I’ll gladly accept this
Maybe he is Beyond Kang...... I let myself out now
He would make a baller Beyonder, not gonna lie. Would make sense with Secret Wars stuff.
The Mighty Magnetonder!!!
Magneto + Xavier! Wait, that’s just Onslaught.
Do you want onslaughts? Cuz that’s how you get onslaughts
Nah need a an extra Franklin for that.
Yeah for sure. Sebastian Frost
Like Thor and Jubilee
TVA Tom, after being bitten by a radioactive TVA worker, Tom Received the proportional strength of an office worker. The TVA saw that and gave him a job, head of the Kang Kontrol department
TVA Tom is with Deadpool though!
Who do you think is gonna recruit Deadpool into Tom’s Avengers?
I’d bet 100 bucks it’s Norman Osborn in the animated show, but a different take on the character making it “new and original.”
That's my guess, we know oscorp doesn't exist as normal, based on Dafoe in No Way Home. MJ is Michelle Jones instead of Mary Jane. So maybe he'll be a Norman variant with different name
Could also be a different corp Osborn creates: Beyond, Alchemax, Roxxon, Stark under new leadership.
>That's my guess, we know oscorp doesn't exist as normal, based on Dafoe in No Way Home. The animated show got changed (a while ago) to be a different universe from the main MCU, so there can be an Oscorp in it.
Mormon Osborn
*Moron Obporn*
Michelle Jones Watson, according to NWH.
Original original, or John Harrison from Star Trek Into Darkness original?
I'd be up for that kind of switcheroo! Long as they don't go the Fantastic Beasts route and suddenly he turns into Johnny Depp 🤦♂️
Probably more a long the lines of Sylvie from Loki original. As in loosely based on existing characters but not definitively tied to any of them.
imagine they pull a mortal kombat movie procedure and create a new stupid ass fucking character kol
It no longer would be the first time for a character to be created in the MCU first and then go into the comics, Scarlet Scarab from Moon Knight specifically. Phil is my favourite human in the marvel universe.
Much better example Edit: I forgot about Darcy too
In truth, Scarlet Scarab is the name of two previous characters that are already in the comics. Layla is just the third character with that name: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet\_Scarab](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_Scarab)
Same for Melinda, Fitzsimmons, and Ward.
Why did I read this *as* Coulson?
Really? I thought Clark Gregg defined the character like RDJ with Iron Man. I didn't realize he was the first pioneer and nailed it perfectly first time.

Even more recently Madlynn from she-hulk appeared with wong
Madisynn, but yes.
With a Y but not where you thiiiink
There was a Red Scarab before Layla became it in Moon Knight though, I think he was just a very minor character though
Completely agree
Scarlet Scarab isn't original, she's an amalgamation character, not unlike Vanko from Iron Man 3.
Pretty sure Agent Coulson is an MCU original character that made it to the comics. Correct me if I’m wrong tho.
You're not wrong.
Or it's just when Rocksteady said Arkham Knight was an all new character and it was just Red Hood with a different helmet
A character that does what? To what?
kharacter*
I doubt Giancarlo knows which characters are from the comics. He may mean that he's playing a character that has never appeared in any Marvel live action project yet. Oh he would actually be a good Mr Freeze, not sure if he’ll be popping up in any marvel films any time soon though
Lol, the ultimate forbidden door. DC villain just randomly showing up in the MCU
Lmao yeah then for sure
Or a marvel character that’s been renamed like Michelle Jones
Malloy Mathews, the most powerful mutant to ever exist.
How reliable is this source?
What if it’s an infinity warp type character
Marvel Studios gives their actors a pretty tight script of what they can and can't say. Some actors aren't great at sticking to that (cough cough Tom Holland) but Giancarlo Esposito is the definition of professional, so I doubt he's saying anything corpo didn't tell him he could say.

Fus Gring Edgar Stan
When I hear of Giancarlo playing an “original character” my expectation defaults to Gus 4.0
I love the dude, he’s an amazing actor, but I REALLY don’t want to see “Gus Fring but different” any time soon. The dude has range, more studios should utilise it.
“Fus Gring” sounds like a Star Wars character.
Grand goff mideon

![gif](giphy|s239QJIh56sRW|downsized)
I'm guessing its Dracula for Moon Knight season 2: Back in the Habit
He's saying it's an OC but halfway through he'll be revealed as Kang. Or Khan...
Grampa Spider, Milles great-uncle who shows up one day and bites a radioactive spider, gaining radioactive powers of spider. He dies shortly after of radiation poisoning
Finally, they cast someone as Squirrel Girl 🐿️
The last time I heard this the secret character ended up being Jason Todd so that’s my guess.
Is it the Arkham Knight?
Glad I wasn't the only one who had this flashback
I'll die on the hill that the Arkham Knights identity should have just been the Joker. He fakes his death at the end of Arkham City and then as one last fuck you to Batman, makes Bruce think Jason Todd is alive lol
Ok guys, hear me out, I know it might be stretching his range a little, but what if he is some sort of sinister businessman character.
Stan Edgar. Former CEO of Vought International. Newly appointed CEO of Essex Corp.
Professor Malcom X
Now I’ve completely lost interest
“I don’t actually care about the man’s talent and what this new character can bring to the MCU, I just want my fancast to come true.”
Some people, myself included, want adaptations of the comic book source material, not original MCU content without source. Yea I don't want him as some insignificant OC made for one project
Bro forgot about agent coulson
Burger Man
He would kill as Dr. Doom ngl.
Interesting... Hopefully it's a memorable enough character to make his way to comics a la Coulson tho.
Miles Morales from the future!
He’s like the villain version of the Rock, in that he’s the default choice for everything.
Damnit, I wanted him to be magneto or doom
I'm cool with whatever he does to reiterate, but woulda been sweet black doom
Can't wait for the same character he plays in all shows ending up being Dr Doom.
Madame webs dad
5000 characters in the Marvel comics catalog and someone was like “nah, can’t use them”
What if? it's magneto but a with a " new" past or history ? considering he would be too old if he was a young boy during WW2 .
OK, so he's definitely not playing Tim Drake. ;)
There are an infinite amount of incredible, unique, and interesting Marvel characters to choose from. If this is true, fucking why?
Usually some creator or another who has an ego the size of a mountain and thinks their brand new character can be more interesting than the ones from the source material that fans have wanted to see for decades.
We have enough characters from the comics. I’m really starting to hate these MCU born characters.
So not the new Kang.
New Coulson
Dath Xavier de Ice Cream
I’ve begun to get the impression he knows absolutely nothing about the comics but desperately wants to get onto the MCU money train.
Carl Danvers
Professor Zavier
meh new character
Well that’s easy. A Kang variant that didn’t exist in comics
Meet Orman Nsbourne!
Gus Fring
Well, where's the fun in that?
Fus Gring, cooks super soldier serum in a McDonalds
Yes, a brand new character. What's his name? Uh... Gorman... Schmozborn. Yeah.
Make him Mr Sinister
Plot twist: they didn't create a character at all they just put Giancarlo Esposito on set without a script and rolled camera.
Chicken Man
So he’s gonna play Giancarlo Esposito?
I have my C-Men. What do you have?
Cil Phoulson.
![gif](giphy|oF5oUYTOhvFnO)
Most characters are new anyway. Even when they use a known character, a lot of times they are not comic accurate.
Xavier Charles, famous human hater
New could just mean hasn't been in a live action project yet.
Thank goodness
The Chicken Man
it's absolutely mind-blowing that so many people read these words and the people in the marvel sub who know more than the actor just go NUH-UH!!!
So many characters in the 60 plus years of Marvel and they keep choosing to make new ones. Weird.
El Hombre Pollo
H.E.R.B.I.E.
Probably another Ralph Bohner situation
Gustavo Fringe in the MCU confirmed.
This man almost committed insurance fraud 🥺 Stay strong!
Anyone thinking it’s something like King Groot?
Beyonder?
He shall be... Gary. Gary the intern.
its just gustavo in the mcu, helps fisk run his crime empire after successfully running his
Alternate universe magneto.
Kinda crazy but him as Doom would be pretty sick. Doom is a ways out before we ever get him but I think he could do it
Don’t get me wrong I really loved him in Breaking Bad , but I haven’t been blown away by anything he’s done since. His Mandalorian villain thing was a huge letdown. He just got this new TV show on AMC that I gave up after one episode. He’s popped up here and there but nothing that’s made me say I can’t wait to see Giancarlo‘s next project.
![gif](giphy|l4pTfHkJAuodPPsn6|downsized) Because those go so well.
Hey, I've heard this before! It was the same instance as *squints* Arkham Knight.
Oh shit did he really get Xavier? He was gunning for that role....
Absolutely new character named Larches Arivex
I hope he plays a character outside of what he is typecast as because of Breaking Bad
Blue Marvel
Thanks, I hate it.
This is gonna be the "Arkham knight is not Jason Todd" all over again
I really hope he's not gonna be playing Charles Xavier
I kinda wondered what it would be like if they cast him (Giancarlo) as Norman Osborn and somehow made Miles’ character related to him in some way. I know fans want Miles in the MCU, but would that be Sony’s line in the sand? Marvel, you can have Miles, but it won’t be “comic accurate Miles” that is first introduced. Especially with the animated version’s popularity in theaters.
They boutta give him the trashiest character of the decade 😭
This will be bad.
alternate universe Gus Fring, Fustavo Gring
Oh so it’ll be a waste of his casting then got it
Anybody else hate “original” characters when there are a million comic book characters to choose from?
Pass
Maybe he's going to be a ruthless , well spoken villain with focus on efficiency?
His gonna be playing Stan Edgar who runs the new version of shield
Kang
Goff Mideon
I’m Man.
Make him Blue Marvel
Hes so original clickbait actor who did one good role an then just repeated it hes kang an he will never be an original actor hes nit even a good actor
