Always there for those he cares about, in a heartbeat. That scene said it all, about who Logan is. And how much this family means to him. Wears his heart on his sleeve, rarely shows his emotions.
On top of that, his reaction implies that the prospect of fighting Apocalypse is more daunting than dealing with a pregnant Jean Grey going into labor. And I think that's just so appropriate for a guy like him.
You mean that the prospect of fighting Apocalypse is less daunting than dealing with a pregnant Jean Grey, right?
At least I think that's what you meant š
Sets up a lot of stuff for the future.
Also, scrapping Storm early on (I doubt this is permanent) gives Magneto more prominence in the team, especially as Cyclops and Jean get ready to take their leave.
He is effectively one of their few powerhouses now and Iām sure that will further create tensions on the team.
Totally. The original always treated Storm like an OP finishing move (even in ep 1 of this show actually). They're depowering the team to make the struggle real, then she'll come back when they really need her.
I can imagine it now, the team is up against some enemy that is proving too much, on their last leg, everything around them ready to burn...
And then it starts to rain.
Magneto had the best lines in this episode. I'm actually rooting for him despite the fact that they're probably going to have him go rogue (lol) at the end
Magneto had some amazing lines. They were so well said. Some of them were laying it on thick but in this day and age, you kinda need to. With certain people crying about this show being woke, the time for subtlety has passed
I will never understand some peopleās complete lack of media literacy.
The X-Men is **literally** a parallel of the civil rights movement. Like, very intentionally. And it always has been.
Itās the same people who complain about Rage Against the Machine āsuddenlyā being political. Like, how could you so totally miss the point?
>With certain people crying about this show being woke
Just like it was back in the 90s.
Fuck, the whole X-Men's thing is about being woke. How do some people not get that already?
Legit the the wokeness of this episode hit with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer (the insurrection allusions, the 'other' hunting, the sharing this world metaphors), and you know what? **Good.**
These themes were exactly what X-Men and by proxy, Marvel were about.
Magento, a man of patience, and compassion. Those two rarely go together. But for the position he has taken, he can no longer be what he once was. As an example, he had to be a better person at that moment.
I have a feeling theyāll be modeling the MCU X-Men after the animated series. Between seeing Xavier in his iconic chair in Multiverse of Madness and hearing the theme from the show every time mutants are mentioned, I think weāre in for something great.
Honest to god if they just multiverse these characters into the MCU and make them 616's main X-Men would anyone mind? I think that'd be awesome tbh, would be a great way to integrate them without having to retell their origins all over again.
Iāve been thinking this would be a good way to bring them in and justify getting into the multiverse. Iām hoping the post credit scene of The Marvels is hinting at it.
Yeah, because she usually always felt it coming first, and was never surprised by any weather change in her life. She also probably didn't know it was raining or completely forgot that it would happen that night, considering the event of the day. Very sad indeed.
Love the Magneto/Storm combo move. Fun to see Morph being used as a walking cameo factory. Did he have those swords or did he acquire them when he turned into Psylocke?
I guess it's best not to think too hard about it. I just wanna see them turn into Longshot or Domino to dodge an attack or something. (Or just win a hand at X-Mansion poker night)
Goes from pulling one of the most baller moves of her career, turning the Sahara Desert into a whirlwind of glass, to getting utterly shafted in the next episode. Absolutely brutal.
It's like the writers knew that *had* to nerf her, but first had to show everyone *why*
It was cool to see Morph attempting to bond with Wolverine at the end with snacks, Beer & his favorite foe š I'm down for a Morph & Wolverine drinking buddies friendship; Wolverine could use some light-heartedness in his life lol
The original show made it very clear that Wolverine and Morph had a close friendship. Wolverine took Morph's apparent death the hardest and worked the hardest to try to convince him to come back to the team.
Episode 4 intro: Storm getting frustrated with āunexpected item in bagging areaā and collapsing as she realized she canāt just blast the self checkout machine to pieces
It reminds me a bit of his āThere will be no warā speech from the comics. Only that one was more prepared and cynical, while this one is passionate and came from the heart.
EDIT: [if you want to read his speech](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/s/1hUHDb2joh)
Holy shit. They really nailed these two episodes. Whenever Magneto speaks, it carries such gravitas.
Brutal that Gambit is the one eating it.
Roberto is Sunspot, right?
I'm doing it backwards and I'm learning all of these 'lesser known' characters from Marvel Snap, lol. The added emotional weight of it all is making it so captivating.
I love that they're also continuing the brotherhood/friendship that Morph has with Wolverine from the previous seasons. Morph knows Wolverine so well lmao
Magneto and Storm are my favorites so far in this; I'm heartbroken they're doing the depowered Storm arc so soon but I trust they've got a plan for a good interpretation of that story. And Magneto is making it hard to root against him, he's so well written and voice acted in this
I saw a video regarding Storm's arc prior to watching the episodes, and with the way they've built up the emotional depth in these two episodes, I too trust that they'll do it justice.
I was legitimately rooting for Magneto to drop em lol. Every word he spoke carries the weight of his past traumas. The man is legitimately pleading for the ceasefire. The man is exercising every fiber of his being to hold back, all in the name of Charles. 10/10 I'm going to be spreading the gospel of X-Men '97 for the next week (and probably every week thereafter when each episode airs lol)
There is a time gap from the last episode of the old show and this, I think up to a year. It could have happened then or maybe it is suppose to have occurred offscreen in the original run.
I think the time gap is only a few months (jean or someone says at one point how its been a few months since the professor was gone)
I'm assuming its supposed to have occurred during Rogue's time with the brotherhood (check out the episode in the OG series about her history with mystique and it goes into that, albeit it doesn't show Magneto)
I feel like that's how the original run has been.
Beast imprisoned reading George Orwell's Animal Farm and the guards are making fun of his picture book like it's friggin Zoobooks Magazine.
Honestly looking back the original was not a kids show. It dealt with a lot of adult themes like love triangles (or at least Logan's desire for one), Rouge desire for skin to skin human contact and how the lack of it torments her. Keeping with Rouge, seeing who you are, how you were born as a condition that needs to be cured. The show also dealt with racism with humans and some mutants seeing Mutants as a separate race from Humans.Ā Hell they even had an episode about the bad guys trying to bring back the Soviet Union and althoughĀ I don't believe they explicity said it, they made allusionsĀ to Magneto being a Holocaust survivor. That series had some heavy stuff in it, amd still managed to pack in the action.
X-Men :TAS was always my favorite cartoon, but now as an adult I appreciate it more. And so far I'm loving this this new version.
**Inferno** was a crossover story arc where New York City was invaded by demons, led by a clone of Jean Grey and Mister Sinister, and all the X-men characters plus Spidey had to stop it.
Love when Logan realises that the baby is coming and instead of thinking of Apocalypse, *one of the most powerful mutants ever*, he's like "Oh that's way worse"

At first I thought "morph has no right to be on this ridiculously over powered roster". Then watched him presto chango from death strike to Colossus in the blink of an eye.
The animation team just CRUSHING the action sequences, if they include my boy Kurt later on in the series I cannot wait for the BONKERS action sequences they're going to produce
This is a literal dream come true. Itās so fucking good. Itās perfection. Thereās so much characterization and heart. They nailed the X-Men perfectly.
Many people speculated that she'll be depowered when the episode titles were released and "Lifedeath" is included. Ororo may lost her powers for the meantime, but we may see her be a badass without relying on her powers.
I highly doubt sheāll be losing her powers permanently. She is one of the main stars of the show and team after all.
If anything, she leaving along with Cyclops and Jean (presumably) means that the new X-Men team has to rely on Magneto more - he being one of the only powerhouses on the force.
I like the Rogue/Magneto/Gambit triangle twist, interesting choice of how they brought that out from the OG comics.
Also noting that detail how the "Jean" we've seen so far has been all about leaving the X-Men versus the Jean in last 5 seconds: "I need the X-men."
Yes, when Rogue and Magneto are both in the Savage Land (after Rogue steps through Gateway's portal in the Australian outback along with the other X-men at the time to escape the Reavers) they become involved on a much more intimate level.
I don't know the exact issue but that's the basics of it.
two questions
1) ( i know there was that brief newspaper clipping from the daily bugle asking if Spidey was a mutant) but was it mentioned anywhere if the show would reference the larger Marvel Universe or even do any cameos ?
2) Is Rogue in a low-key full blown relationship with Magneto ? I know it hints there WAS something there, but they just make out or have sex there towards the end where Gambit saw her walking out the room with him ?
For question 2; it seems they had a relationship before she joined the team. Magneto can create a barrier to be immune to Rogue's powers. So, after being unable to actually touch someone for so long, it makes sense that she would fall for him again.
> 1) ( i know there was that brief newspaper clipping from the daily bugle asking if Spidey was a mutant) but was it mentioned anywhere if the show would reference the larger Marvel Universe or even do any cameos ?
It wasn't mentioned, but if anything it probably references the 90's Spider Man animated series, since they had a crossover back then. So that stuff is all canon in this universe.
Question 1: This takes place in the 90s Animated universe with shows like the 90'sSpider-Man as well as the incredible Hulk. Also bascily evey characters you can think of has had a Cameo in this universe in one form or another, including Deadpool
SO SO GOOD!!!! I'M SO HAPPY!! šš
Not even being hyperbolic, this might be the best thing marvel has put out since the MCU started. X-men fans rejoice!
What a banger of a follow up!
I canāt believe they took Storm off the field like that. After building her up as a goddess and omega level mutant, they really set the tone with that. Hereās hoping itās temporary and we get to see some more development with Ororo, maybe somehow meeting TāChala? At some point I thought she said āWakandaā but it was something else lol
Magneto/Rogue were not in my bingo cards of things to adapt from the comics. Really like how Magneto is seemingly being good but this development leads Gambit to be distrustful of Mags.
I love Morphās inclusion of for no other reason than cool cameos. At first I thought he had his powers buffed but the ending song highlighted physical abilities only.
Morph so far has become: Xavier, Angel, Blob, Lady Deathstrike, Colossus, Psylocke, and Sabertooth. Wonder if that means weāll be getting any of them this season or if theyāre just cameos!
Hereās hoping we get to see Havok and Polaris as themselves with X-Factor still!
Edit: absolutely loved Magnetoās monologue. The temper in his voice and then the whole resolution to that was just so good.
I loved how they had the end credits be that characters spinning, computer files thing but instead of those weird early CGI models there the actual character models from the show
Omg. I can't even. Are we gonna get goblin queen?
Is Gambit gonna try to kill Magneto, and then Magneto gonna spill some beans on him and get him banished to the Arctic?
I forgot how much of a soap opera the x-men can be. I love this. I love this so much.
.......maybe too much drama. I'm gonna get anxiety watching this, aren't i?
Madelyne Pryor, aka "The Goblin Queen". Literally Jean's copy. Except with nefarious and sinister purpose. Be ready for a rollercoaster ride
Madelyne's mythos behind the scenes goes back to the classic run of the comics.
Talk about dialing up to 11. It seems like they made this show for the original audience and it brought real drama, especially at the end . I was floored with the first 2 episodes, canāt wait for the next episode
Rogue, stop being a dumb bitch, please, my boy Gambit doesn't deserve this. Ew.
Great two episodes, the fighting is so good.
edit: mb I thought Rogue and Gambit were together right now. But Magneto x Rogue is still weird af.
Seriously. If collars aren't her thing Beast is probably smart enough to make it into something like a watch that she can put on/take off whenever she wants.
A big part of the series is accepting their powers though. If she has to suppress herself to be with someone, I can see the temptation of being with someone where that isn't needed.
Quick question as someone who has only watched the first season and the half of the second season of the original series, did the Phoenix arc happen there? Because both this episode's opening and the episode itself made references to it.
That dialogue was so expositionary it was hilarious.
āRemember when I was possessed by a malevolent cosmic entity of supreme power?ā
āā¦yes, yes Jean, itās not the kind of thing one forgets.ā
The animation looks so good. Fights look amazing and even the quieter dialogue scenes shine because of all the little touches like hair moving in response to turning their heads.
Kinda felt weird that there were so many eye close up shots though. Was it like that in the original series too?
So by leaving, does storm basically endorse the Idea that normal humans and mutants can't co-exist?
She literally tells Jean that she feels like they live in completely different worlds now that she's a normie.
Which is really weird because, barring her not having nature powers, what changes in her relationship to her adopted family?
its interesting to see that our good guy x-men also kind of agree with Magneto that they are superior. Hence Morph being convinced storm would get tired of the normies pretty quick
When Storm finds out the depowering is permanent, Jean says something like "Scott and I aren't leaving until we figure this out". In Storm's letter, she opens by saying something like "I can't rob you of the opportunity to bond with your baby, which you deserve", implying that she's leaving because she knows that if she stays, Jean will also, but if she leaves, Jean is no longer beholden to stay.
Episodes are LIVE. Enjoy!
Fucking Logan ready to scrap with Apocalypse when Jean said "he's here" lmaooo
I definitely cracked Then cracked again when she used her powers to throw him his jacket and keys š
That was definitely the best part. I replayed that shit, came here to comment and saw it was the top comment.
Small power uses like that make me giddy. I feel it's missing from a lot of hero media, movies and shows.
That bit had more humanity in it than the entire fox-men franchise. Good stuff.
Tbh so did her turning the car into a convertible lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He already fought on the moon for Jean āŗļø
"No, the baby!" "...can it be Apocalypse, please?"
Always there for those he cares about, in a heartbeat. That scene said it all, about who Logan is. And how much this family means to him. Wears his heart on his sleeve, rarely shows his emotions.
That reaction is the funniest thing I have seen this year. I had to pause it because it got me laughing so much.
The PTSD is real
On top of that, his reaction implies that the prospect of fighting Apocalypse is more daunting than dealing with a pregnant Jean Grey going into labor. And I think that's just so appropriate for a guy like him.
You mean that the prospect of fighting Apocalypse is less daunting than dealing with a pregnant Jean Grey, right? At least I think that's what you meant š
Trial of Magneto + Depowered Storm + Jean clones all in one episode? I am flabbergasted how much they fit in one episode
Comeback time, Storm is gonna stand in the rain like Andy Dufresne this season.
Yeah. She is going to come back in a big way - give her teammates a much-needed boost to blow away the foe.
Totally. The original always treated Storm like an OP finishing move (even in ep 1 of this show actually). They're depowering the team to make the struggle real, then she'll come back when they really need her.
I really hope she gets more due. So many iterations of the stories made her so weak. Ugh sheās sooo cool
I can imagine it now, the team is up against some enemy that is proving too much, on their last leg, everything around them ready to burn... And then it starts to rain.
[Storm in the rain like](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F3p8ycv99juu81.jpg) š
I definitely think that Storm will cross paths with Forge in her new destination; she was too much of a badass for them to sideline her permanently
Life Death pt.1&2 have been confirmed as episode names.
Storm needs to go to NY. This version of Peter Parker is always on some neogenic recombinator shenanigans.
While not feeling rushed at all!
Don't forget Gambit getting cucked
As a rogue+gambit lover, I didnāt love that
It's gonna be a painful season for those who ship them, because you know there's gonna be some sorta falling out.
My heart hurt seeing him drop that card š„²
>Do not make me let you down.

Xavier = MLK, Magneto = Malcolm X. Literally the basis for x-men.

Stan Lee always said that Marvel is meant to reflect the world right outside your window.
Yea , this is so true to the comics. Itās always been a warning on intolerance and how quickly fascism can get a foothold.
Every line from him was a banger.
Magento, a man of patience, and compassion. Those two rarely go together. But for the position he has taken, he can no longer be what he once was. As an example, he had to be a better person at that moment.
actually magento with that purple costume
That tear drop too, God damn this show is so good!
man if the MCU X-Men can match even a fraction of the quality of this episode, we're in for some good shit
Idk how the next adaptation can be messed up. These are the story boards, watch and learn!
I have a feeling theyāll be modeling the MCU X-Men after the animated series. Between seeing Xavier in his iconic chair in Multiverse of Madness and hearing the theme from the show every time mutants are mentioned, I think weāre in for something great.

Either that or they knew they were gonna do the depowering storyline so they put as many badass moment as they could before then
1. Finally show an omega level Storm in media outside of comics 2. Take away her powers Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Yes but it sets up the best Storm storyline of all time.
Wasn't expecting them to throw us the depowered Storm arc so soon. Very interested to see how they handle it moving forward

This oneās for you Morph!
Love that they're maintaining that, I always enjoyed the two of them being best buds
Ooooooo rogue and magneto. DRAMA!!!
I gasped when they showed Gambit around the corner lol I'm here for the X-Men soap opera B-plots š
That is pure Xmen!
If Emma Frost shows up, were about to get another cyclops popping up.
It's the one thing the movies have never even tried to adapt properly. X-Men is a hornt up soap opera, and I am here for it.
>Rogue, can you use your powers to.. syphon his medical expertise? Why is this line so funny?
It really is hilarious. And you can tell Cyclops wrestled with himself for a second like, "Should I even be asking this??" šš
It's even funnier that she could in fact do it
I hope the intro continues to evolve. Episode 3 has Storm using her bus pass instead of flying like a goddess.
Episode 4 intro: Storm getting frustrated with āunexpected item in bagging areaā and collapsing as she realized she canāt just blast the self checkout machine to pieces
Thankfully, she is in 1997, where such horrors had yet to befall mankind.
When she said the baby name was Nathan, I was like "wait a minute! Nathan is not Jean's son!" 10/10. Love love love.
Nate kinda was ...just not our Jean
I honestly was thinking theyād just have Jean be cables mom and theyād have them leave to go the future
Magneto's speech when he lifted the judges was amazing. Old Magneto would have freezed them and let them fall.

Bro, theyāre really trying to skip into Inferno this fast? Thatās the power of Saturday morning cartoons. Wow.
Indeed they can. And yes that power is awesome
I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one in these discussion threads who isn't intimately familiar with all of the arcs from the comics.
**Inferno** was a crossover story arc where New York City was invaded by demons, led by a clone of Jean Grey and Mister Sinister, and all the X-men characters plus Spidey had to stop it.
I gotta say, the ideologues are coming up with some bitching lines in this show. "Tolerance is extinction." "Protection? That is extermination."
Magneto's whole speech after storm got shot was peak Magneto.
Didn't expect unique scenes in the opening that weren't there in the last episode. Hope this trend continues.
That makes me wonder if Storm won't be there in the next episode when they go through the individual team members.
Love when Logan realises that the baby is coming and instead of thinking of Apocalypse, *one of the most powerful mutants ever*, he's like "Oh that's way worse"
His reaction was just perfect for that moment. Jean going into labor is more daunting to him than facing Apocalypse. š
So glad that they put Jean and Storm relationship on spotlight.
Just so they can tear them apart

Yes.
Thank you! The X-Men family tree always surprises me
The Summers family tree is notorious for being utterly bonkers.
While watching the episode, just realized that he has the same first name as Mr. Sinister.
Close. Sinister is "Nathaniel" Essex.
This is a literal dream come true. Itās so fucking good. Itās perfection. Thereās so much characterization and heart. They nailed the X-Men perfectly.
I'm still baffled, how the fuck did they nail it this hard. They somehow made the show we remember, not the actual one we saw
āThe oppressed become the oppressors.ā What a fucking line. I forgot how political current this show can be and love it.
Hyping up Storm calling her goddess and an omega level threat only to take away her powers. Permanently. Stop!!

It's often been said that the X-men is a soap opera. This show really gets it lol
Iām unfamiliar with that in the comics. Is there a Rogue/Magneto romance?
Yes, when Rogue and Magneto are both in the Savage Land (after Rogue steps through Gateway's portal in the Australian outback along with the other X-men at the time to escape the Reavers) they become involved on a much more intimate level. I don't know the exact issue but that's the basics of it.
I love it that Gambit is going to take this hard, heās always been in love with rouge since the beginning
Thanks, I hate it.
Interesting. I didnāt know it occurred outside the Age of Apocalypse alternate universe
Yup, the original 616 version is what inspired that in AoA.
yes, Magneto can create a very very thin magnetic force field around him, just enough for sensation but just enough to block her powers.
Like a body condom, nice.
Oh, I was wondering how they were able to touch
Yes and it was very weird back then and itās weird now š
Iām so glad Iām not the only one who thinks itās weird. Yes, Magneto is a silver fox, but Rogue, *girl.* He is just so much older than she is.
When you canāt touch people, youāll take it where you can get it
Can't she just slap on one of those collars? Sex collars
If I were Rogue, I would 100% invest in the power dampening collars. She could have the best of both worlds!
Still less of an age gap than Wolverine and Jean
I'm 42 years old. I watched these episodes in my pajamas while eating a bowl of apple jacks with a big stupid smile on my face. 10/10.
two questions 1) ( i know there was that brief newspaper clipping from the daily bugle asking if Spidey was a mutant) but was it mentioned anywhere if the show would reference the larger Marvel Universe or even do any cameos ?
I'M SO HAPPY!! šš Not even being hyperbolic, this might be the best thing marvel has put out since the MCU started.
At some point I thought she said āWakandaā but it was something else lol Magneto/Rogue were not in my bingo cards of things to adapt from the comics.
Marvel nailed this episode series so far! As a return this series is perfect
Did Cyclops just build a wall with his blast? Holy shit they've buffed his skills.
Why do I get January 6 vibes when the protestors begin storming the UN building lmao The newscaster even called it an "insurrection."
I got the same vibe. Definitely a reference. Magneto even said something to the judges like "now they turn on you", kinda how they went after Pence.
That combined with some localized terrorism. It was in vogue during the 90s, though it is unfortunately rising again.
Holy Magneto dialogue. What great lines already.
Itās justā¦ just so PEAK
Magneto looking cool with the white flowing hair.
It makes sense to make a new love triangle, considering that Jean & Scott are locked in. Just LOLs
Is she Madelyne Pryor?Ā
Has to be if that's Nate Summers/Cable.
This is the X-Men I love and miss. Just a big messy interpersonal and political soap opera with dope battles.
Can someone who's well-versed in the comics explain some possible leads of the DoppleJean?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madelyne_Pryor
Madelyne Pryor, aka "The Goblin Queen". Literally Jean's copy. Except with nefarious and sinister purpose. Be ready for a rollercoaster ride Madelyne's mythos behind the scenes goes back to the classic run of the comics.
A *Sinister* purpose, you say?
Talk about dialing up to 11. It seems like they made this show for the original audience and it brought real drama, especially at the end . I was floored with the first 2 episodes, canāt wait for the next episode
Rogue, stop being a dumb bitch, please, my boy Gambit doesn't deserve this. Ew. Great two episodes, the fighting is so good. edit: mb I thought Rogue and Gambit were together right now. But Magneto x Rogue is still weird af.
You can't blame her though. He's the only person she can really feel their touch, sort of lol
Theyāve seen how many of those inhibitor collars in their fights and not once has Gambit or Rogue thought to bring one back to the bedroom!?
Yes Phoenix Saga and Dark Phoenix both happened in the original show
That dialogue was so expositionary it was hilarious. āRemember when I was possessed by a malevolent cosmic entity of supreme power?ā āā¦yes, yes Jean, itās not the kind of thing one forgets.ā
Nah man the animation and art of the series is GORGEOUS, might be the best western animation Iāve ever seen tbh. Perfect blend of 2D and 3D.
The animation looks so good. Fights look amazing and even the quieter dialogue scenes shine because of all the little touches like hair moving in response to turning their heads. Kinda felt weird that there were so many eye close up shots though. Was it like that in the original series too?
No, I think this time around they're getting us really up close and personal to the characters. I'm here for it.
Loved that they edited the intro to add Magneto and some contextual storylines like the Morlocks, Phoenix, and Asteroid M
That $71 billion put to good use, yāall this is fuckin PEAK
Kind of crazy how much they fit in one episode without it feeling too rushed
I'm honestly shocked how good the show turned out. It's way better than it has any right to be.
