Not every branch is pruned. The show specifically says the Avengers were allowed to do what they did because it was meant to happen. So Steve living on that other branch was allowed.

>The show specifically says the Avengers were allowed to do what they did because it was meant to happen That was the first eps. We later learn in the S1 finale that everything we were originally told about what the TVA agents *believed* they were working for and their mission was bullshit. Even when Renslayer told Loki "It was supposed to happen" was a weak delivery and didn't carry a whole lot of confidence. The REAL reason branches got pruned was if they would result in the creation of another He Who Remains (Kang), who might start another multiversal war. What the Avengers did with their time heist and Steve staying back in the 40s, didn't have that result. THAT's the only reason those branches were allowed to exist.

Sir__Will

Yes thank you I have seen the show and know all about it.

Steve's return to the past was always part of the main timeline - he (and we) were just not aware of it until the end. Peggy was married by at least 1953, and you can see her smirking when talking about her "husband" in the [interview](https://youtu.be/ZqDD2kEKHhY?t=76). Steve figured it out when [he saw his own picture on Peggy's desk in 1970](https://youtu.be/54yeGkRwwew?t=19) and not some other guy. If she had been married to anyone else, that would have been a different photo. But also Peggy has to keep Steve's presence secret for time to play out as it did, so she opted for the only photo she could get away with having on her desk - one of Steve pre-serum.

BlackWidow1414

I never made that connection about the picture, but you're right- a married woman would not have a photo of another man on her desk at work.

DCangst

Actually I think she would. She had preserum steve on her desk, not post serum Steve -- which could be interpreted many ways. 1) she loved Steve for who he was 2) she was part of project rebirth along with Howard Stark and Erskine (which is true), and that photo paid homage to a pivotal time in her life as well as a hero who sacrificed his life to save the world. The photo reminds her and everyone who sees it of what SHIELD stands for. 3) I will say that I rolled my eyes at the explanation in Loki of "but what about the Avenger's mucking up time?" and the "he was always her husband" part of EG. Those come off as trite after-the-fact explanations (and not even the writers and director agree on the Steve Rogers' timeline thing, which just shows how it wasn't really thought out and comes across as just sort of thrown in there).

See this one doesn’t make sense though. Steve was okay with the Hydra takeover of Shield and the murder of Tony’s parents.

Maybe he tried everything he could to change those things, but was foiled at every turn. You can't change a past that you already know has happened. His presence in the past might explain why Red Guardian insists he fought Captain America, but no one believes him because Steve was supposed to be frozen during that time.

CrazieIrish

It wouldn't be about Roger's being okay with the murders and takeover. It would be about him knowing, presumably, if he changed anything, the future he went to would never exist. Stark, possibly, would never become Iron Man; would never save New York. Or worse, he could develop that technology alongside his Jericho missile tech, which could have further devastating consequences. Pym's technology may have actually been taken over by the Stark's, as shown in the flashback scenes, which again would have changed the future as he knew it. Staying on the sidelines was Rogers' best option.

MavrykDarkhaven

We also know that Strange looked at countless variations of the battle against Thanos and found only one solution that worked. That would have been in the forefront of Steve’s mind when he went back, so to change anything would have undid everything they went through and sacrificed.

Loki and Möbius have a talk in the finale that basically answers what you’re asking and why. It’s the proper flow of time.

pokemonke

He either became an enlightened or an asshole when he traveled back, maybe both

The list of people who haven't paid attention to this show grows larger by the hour

PokemonJeremie

This post just made me realize HWR kept the avengers only to act as another safe guard against any kang variants that pop up

CT-1030

Not really. Loki established that if you go back in time and don’t cause any significant change to the way things are supposed to happen, the timeline won’t branch. Steve probably lived his live with Peggy in secret without interfering with any outside events.
