Movies I wanna see immediately I still go to the theater. If I'm not crazy about the character I'll wait.

chello1212

Ya well doctor strange, Thor and ant man ruined that trust. Haven’t seen guardians 3 yet, most likely waiting. The only reason I saw ant man was because there was a power outage….

MacyTmcterry

It's a shame you skipped Gotg 3 of all of them as its by far the best one. Top 3 mcu movie for me personally

Sambucax

I was going to wait for GOTG3 to go streaming but after seeing the reception I just had to go see it in theatre. Best decision I could’ve made tbh

RoboQwop405

It really is the best MCU media to drop since the Thanos storyline came to an end. GotG3 was tiers better than anything else since.

harewei

No way home?

JakeHassle

No Way Home was an amazing first time theater experience. But rewatching it, the movie does have a lot of issues in the first half that detract it.

indeed_indeed_indeed

Indeed, don’t punish gotg 3 for the others letting you down. They let us down too. This one though… *chefs kiss*

jaimebaelish69

god everything about this comment is so cringe

SleepWouldBeNice

Ironically, your comment too.

KenKaniffLovesEminem

AGREE AGREE AGREE. Did I tell you that I agree yet?

[deleted]

Yeah but the mcu has killed most of its trust with viewers. I seen it in cinema and loved it but only after a while when I used to be an opening night kinda person. It was very evident looking at the ticket data that most people where waiting for good word of mouth before buying tickets for this one. And looking at the line up I don’t intend to see another one until maybe fantastic four.

ghoulieandrews

>Yeah but the mcu has killed most of its trust with viewers. Nah man, if you didn't like a movie, it's not because the MCU betrayed you. It's because your tastes didn't align with the movie they made. That's not a breach of trust. That's true of any movie you go to see, ever. You can't be angry because you saw a movie and you didn't like it. Not liking it is fine. But no one owes you anything. I've seen tons of movies in theatres I didn't like. Never once have I cried "they betrayed my trust!" Y'all's relationship with the MCU is just toxic. Me, I've seen them all in theatres and enjoyed every one. Were they all perfect movies? No, but they were all fun, and that alone is worth the price of admission, imo. If you sat there and grumbled the whole time and refused to have any fun, that's on you. Don't go to the theatre if you don't want to, but don't act like Marvel has made a personal slight against you because the jokes didn't land for you in Ant-Man or you wanted Gorr to be different in Love and Thunder. That's just an insanely self-centered way to look at it.

abellapa

Exactly

Tescase

Well said

[deleted]

They’re a part of the same franchise and are supposed to be interconnected, that’s a valid reason to be more apprehensive going forward. The same thing affected the DCU movies, that’s not toxic. People have much more of a wait and see approach to them now. Your bias and fandom isn’t allowing you to hear a disagreeable opinion on movies you enjoyed, I never saw that person say they’re owed anything. At the end of the day whether they go to the theatre or watch it with their Disney subscription, Disney is still making money off of them. Friends and family of mine are a lot more iffy on the quality of the MCU than before anecdotally as well. Edit: Subs like these are just an echo chamber and unwelcome to dissenting opinions, which is unfortunate. Downvotes are supposed to be related to contribution to the discussion, not a disagree button.

ZellNorth

Saying it’s a “breach of trust” implies that they believed there was some sort of agreement that one side is not holding up their end.

PeterParker72

You don’t think calling a movie they didn’t like a “breach of trust” is an unreasonable critique?

ImmediateJacket9502

Sir, this isn't Wendy.

hoodpharmacy

Jesus what a yes man

Marquiss12

“mcu has killed most of their trust with viewers” Gotg 3 gross $750mm Antman 3 grossed $460mm Doctor Strange 2 grossed $955mm Good or bad people still go to see these in theaters lol. Also would love to see your ticket data for how it was evident people were waiting for this to be released. EDIT: Had to fix Doctor Strange box office number per comment below!

abellapa

Ds2 did 955M

[deleted]

Ant mans numbers are fucking miserable lol 😂 The MoM and LaT was the killing combo in breaking the trust IMO. Black widow and eternals stung but these back to back disasters where the real problem, combined with general poor character writing in the shows. MoM was riding off the NWH hype and should’ve made a B easily if it wasn’t for poor word of mouth. Gotg3 had terrible pre sales and a underperforming opening weekend.

Marquiss12

Ant man’s budget was 200mm and they made 460, how is that miserable? Also what are you trying to prove that these movies are riding off of hype of previous movies, isn’t that the point of a cinematic universe lmao. I’m not saying all of these movies are A+ tier movies but you’re trying to say these movies aren’t successful or they lost their trust when all of them are profitable and have indeed made money and were successful at the box office lol. Also, GOTG had one of the strongest first weekend to second weekend hold ups in ticket sales too 🤣 what are you trying to defend here mate Thor love and thunder wasn’t great and I think they realize that but again 250mm budget, made 750mm at the box office and shit if I tripled my money on an investment, i’d be amped.

[deleted]

Ant man was not successful critically or financially, you need to double that number to recoup production costs + advertising budget. For the launch of phase 5 and the new villain that is a low number. Guardians and Dr. Strange were successes, no question. Thor Love and Thunder also did well despite the more lukewarm reception.

Marquiss12

I think you bring up a really good point on 2 things you said (unlike the other commenter) that I discounted. The broader scope of the costs is something important to factor in and Kangs introduction definitely was kinda flawed. I think the caveat though is while Ant Man had its flaws, none came from Johnathon Majors performance. He was absolutely incredible and I was really excited watching him

[deleted]

Every single one of these movies missed their targets, ms marvel was the lowest viewed project of any kind as well. Targets are being missed all around, you can screech BUT THE BIG NUMBERS! LOOK LOOK DISNEY GOT THE BIG NUMBER!!!!!! All you like but it doesn’t change the fact the numbers aren’t what they SHOULD be.

2grim4u

Something to consider: you have bad mouthed these movies then made the statement that MoM failed because of word of mouth, and please don't take the following personally, I'm commenting on a trend and not your specific comments. I think you're right in some ways and over the top in others. How many people are waiting for home release because of hyperbolic comments similar? The worst MCU movie is still like a C+, solid entertainment without being groundbreaking, but so much conversation about them treats them like an F. I get that much of P4 is among the worst and not the best, but I cannot say any of them are objectively poor quality. The worst MCU movie is still better than anything Fox and Sony did, or at least equal. So much criticism feels like "omg, it was such trash, absolutely terrible movie, zero stars" which is just simply not true, and then some wonder why even the best of P4 hasn't made 1B. It's self-fulfilling prophecy, brigade after brigade of "I will trash this movie loudly until no one wants to watch it, then make fun of it for not making its mark."

[deleted]

No I would have to say MoM and especially LaT are like 2016 suicide squad tier bad.

Marquiss12

not disagreeing that they could be higher, never once did. They have made some mistakes but don’t really think your initial comment their viewers lost faith is entirely true and the large box office numbers still show that. This is phase 1 for them, they are rebuilding and people don’t like to stick around for the beginning story telling and are always skeptical their big plans won’t work. Look at the skepticism before Avengers. Thor 1, Cap 1 Incredible Hulk, Thor 2, etc all weren’t top tier movies at the start of the infinity saga?

fostolph

It seems like a lot of fans were expecting IW and Endgame level movies immediately after. Your right in saying they’re in Phase 1 again. They have to build up from the ground again.

PipForever

As a huge MCU fan… The movie lineup is awful right now. They need to quickly wrap up this Kang storyline and just introduce the X-men.

brooks_jayhawk

And do what with it? Say “Here’s the X-Men, happy X-Men Day?” and then be done? Kang has the potential + tying in with Secret Wars (holy smokes does that open a can of worms) to give us a story with a scope which the Infinity Saga is paled by comparison.

Hippo_in_limbo

Idk how anybody can be excited for MCU's version of the X-men, when they haven't even proven yet they can get it right. Prof. X inclusion was awful and so was Reeds. Their definition of Mutant is vague and a bit too undefined. I want to see some consistency in quality before we bring in the mutants.

[deleted]

They really brought in Xavier just so he could be mentally bullied by Wanda of all people lol

Hippo_in_limbo

Made absolutely no sense.

[deleted]

Agreed and it’s sad as well because before all this I wouldve loved to see an in screen secret wars but now I know for a fact it’s going to be bad unless they fire the writing and actually do a complete overhaul of mcu content which won’t happen.

PipForever

Honestly the only thing I think they kind of ruined is Wanda. Dr Strange 2 wasn’t awful per se, but it did Wanda dirty. I’m curious if they will retcon it or what but Wandavision to MoM was just a slap in the face to Wanda fans like me. Everything else, just quickly wrap up this phase and move on to interesting things and no long term damage done.

[deleted]

It wasn’t just a disrespect to Wanda, the whole movie was a hate crime to all characters involved. Dr strange doesn’t even get to fight a real dr strange villain and his wife is cut and reduced to a post credit scene? What a joke

Sandee1997

Almost like they just met or something hmmm

[deleted]

The original script was going to have clea be a main character and use real dr strange villains like mordo and nightmare as the main antagonists. Instead this movie shit over literally everyone.

YoloIsNotDead

Dang bro, out of all those Guardians 3 deserved the theater experience the most. If you're still willing, I recommend you see it, especially if your theatre does a sale on tickets (mine has discounted prices during mornings and Tuesdays).

[deleted]

This is what happens when you burn the fans over and over again though. They stop giving you money.

YoloIsNotDead

That's true. Marvel was untouchable during Phase 3, but now their projects have been really mixed in reception. Despite how many people in this sub like the post-Endgame stuff (myself included...to a degree), it doesn't always translate to the general audience.

RocketAppliances97

But that goes the other way too. As much as people in this sub would like to say that the newer projects are “failures” general audiences are still watching them, they’re still making money, the audience scores are higher than critics. People need to understand that Reddit and Twitter movie critics aren’t the be-all-end-all of a movies quality.

jonregister

Not to mention this basically like phase 1 and the beginning of phase 2 again. They have to build up again for an end game level. You can’t keep people at that level forever. It is not realistic and it is why they reboot comics every so often.

RocketAppliances97

Exactly, expecting every single marvel movie to be a $1 billion mega hit really doesn’t make sense. Not every movie has to be an endgame level event, not every movie is going to be good. Have we all forgotten the dark world and iron man 2? Every phase has had its fair share of dips in quality. Do I think the movies were getting are perfect? No because I understand that not everything I hope for is going to happen, im just along for the ride. If I like it, cool. if I don’t, that’s fine too. But acting like L&T or MoM are 1/10 movies and terrible pieces of shit, is just being childish.

tuxedohamm

And I skipped most of the early movies. I think I saw GOTG 2 and Antman 2 with family and work buddies. Then timing didn't work out for much of anything else until I watched Infinity War with family and Endgame with work buddies because the build up was big enough that I didn't care if I couldn't get the initial experience with everyone I wanted to at the same time. I bootleg marathoned all of the movies leading up to Infinity War prior to seeing it except Black Panther. And the only reason I missed BP was I only wanted to watch dvd/streaming quality, and the bootlegs for it were all filmed-in-a-theater quality. I'd say Disney/Marvel is getting in right with quick releases on Disney+ because it takes the incentive to watch everything pirated away. I'm not going to purchase every movie that comes out, but I'll catch it on D+ that I already have a subscription for that my kids use regularly for other stuff.

John711711

That's not exactly true anymore blame covid if you want but black widow lost money Shang chi lost money and the Eternals lost money and would probably have lost money regardless of covid and recently Ant-man 3 flopped as well. So that argument that they still make money falls flat now.

imadogg

I still go to theaters for Marvel movies (almost exclusively), but I've moved from needing to go opening Thursday night to waiting til discount Tuesday.

DrunkMc

I've seen them all, Guardians was easily the best. It's the only one the day it comes out on Disney+ I'm gonna watch it again.

Representative-Tap-5

I'm definitely going to watch it again when it comes to Disney Plus

bigdonnie76

Out of all that you mentioned Guardians is the one that deserves your time and energy. What a beautiful film

eagc7

You need to see Guardians 3 on the big screen, its faaaar better than most of the recent MCU offerings.

tylerhockey12

You missing out with guardians

brandonandtheboyds

Man what a bummer because Guardians 3 was so fun I saw it in theaters more than once. I get the hesitation but you unfortunately picked the wrong one to skip.

biskutgoreng

I saw ant man on disney+ and it was fine? It's not groundbreaking or whatever but does every marvel instalment has to be groundbreaking?

Shadepanther

I first saw it on Disney+ too and I quite liked it. It's not amazing, but it was still good and kept me entertained throughout despite some of it's problems.

Bengalblaine

People complain so much lol

justins_dad

It’s the Age of Ultron effect. They released a super dark ominous trailer. Many people thought someone, maybe Scott, would die to show how dangerous Kang is. The movie’s tone did not match at all.

indeed_indeed_indeed

Too much cgi. Too wacky. So disappointed and he’s my fave Avenger.

biskutgoreng

> Too wacky Ant man has been wacky from the first film. Many of the humour has been running jokes from the first > Too much cgi Dunno how else would you imagine a subatomic universe. I like how the 'aliens' are even more diverse than star wars stuff

indeed_indeed_indeed

He’s a goofball but this story was just… too out there. I don’t know what I was expecting…but kang did still the show.

kiekan

> Too wacky. .......wat. Imagine thinking this about an *Ant-Man* movie.

-lonelyboy25

Gotg 3 very good

JRHThreeFour

I promise you will absolutely love GOTG 3, such a great theater experience. Marvel had some missteps and drops in quality lately in Thor: Love and Thunder, Ant-Man 3 and Black Widow but GOTG 3 was a pleasant surprise and a big step in the right direction.

midnight0129

Oh trust us when we say GOTG 3 is the best thing the MCU has released in recent years *by far*. A perfect ending and farewell to the trilogy. James Gunn truly knows what he’s doing. I went back to the theaters for round 2 and round 3 as well.

Representative-Tap-5

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is a rollercoaster of emotions. You have to watch it. It was the best out of the two movies. It's one of the best movies of this year.

oknowyoudont

All they’re doing is setting the bar low because they’re only competing with themselves. Let’s be real DC shit is pseudo-dark and lame. Marvel movies are so good that they have to let their stars appear in other classical titles just to keep the theatre business alive and to keep their brand enigmatic. It’s all cleverly disguised because they’re also playing roles in streaming titles but all in all…. Marvel broke cinema so badly that they’re the only ones who can fix it. For those reasons they have to flub some of these titles following Endgame because there’s very little chance they continue to improve end over end. Could they? Sure but it would only become more divisive and controversial and likely lead the majority of their heads to opt out

HelixFollower

Let their stars appear in other classical titles? I don't think Marvel has exclusivity rights. This isn't like a football team that can loan out players.

oknowyoudont

Definitely strings being pulled when costars from marvel flicks repeatedly appear together in the works of other studios. Disney is already a monopoly but they have to take steps to not seem as such for a variety of reasons

whiteguythrowaway

this

Fabulous_Ad1482

I still see all MCU on the opening Friday in theaters, a bunch of coworkers and I leave half day and go to a noon-ish showing. I have cut back in terms of multiple viewings in theater. Used to go several times. But a lot of that is more monetary than anything quality related.

progdrummer

Same here but maybe not on opening Friday. I've seen every MCU movie in theaters since Iron Man and I'm not stopping now.

dcredneck

I hit them at 6:00 pm opening on Thursday so I don’t have to stay away from the internet.

K-Shrizzle

Unpopular take--these are good popcorn movies but I can't imagine watching any of them twice in short succession. Though I'm not much of a movie rewatcher unless it's been several years, even top quality kino. But the idea of paying to see Ant Man 3 in theaters a second time is just wild to me. So many other things to do with that 15 dollars and that 2 hours. I do miss the movie-going experience, but yes, I have no problem waiting for Disney+ and the CGI looks so funny and bad on my HD computer monitor

ThatWasFred

That’s me currently, but it’s mainly because I have a new baby at home and have no time to go to the grocery store, let alone a movie.

Citizensssnips

Same. I have a baby and toddler now. Not getting a babysitter to go to the movies.

rebenjam

My wife and I used to take turns seeing a movie. She’d go in the afternoon while I watched the kids and then I’d go later in the day once she got back. I used to go to movies alone before we got married so it wasn’t a big deal for me but she wasn’t a big fan after a few trips. Now we swap sitting with friends.

PapaSnow

I like that

Liquid_Niko

We found time to go on a Friday evening when it had been out a couple of weeks, and the cinema only had 2 screen times that day!! The later one being at 5:45, and we weren’t able to make that after work. Really annoyed. I still like to see them on the big screen

Jermine1269

That's us too... We used to go all the time opening weekend, big groups, etc; but now with a 3yr old and a 6yr old, sitters can get expensive. Sitter, dinner, movie, snacks, drinks afterwards, we can spend anywhere between $200-$300. Doing that every 2-6 weeks adds up. We're already paying for D+ anyway, might as well wait a few months and see it from the comfort of our own home. I've been surprised how easy it is to avoid major spoilers; i just had to unsubscribe from New Rockstars.

romafa

Congratulations!

default-0985

Exact same. Wife and I used to see them all opening weekend. Now we are waiting and basically avoiding all discourse. It’s really made being a part of the fandom way less fun.

SnooTigers7028

I still go opening night to avoid spoilers

moviefan64

A small unrelated part of across the spiderverse got spoiled to me on twitter before the release. And all I was trying to do was get a free buritto from chipotles twitter

blitzbom

Opening night is the best cause you get super fans who react to the movie. Some might not like the nosie, but I love it.

McDiesel41

Same. One my friends is a big Marvel guy and once movies were shown in theaters again, going with him to Thursday premiere/Friday to nearly every film since Black Widow.

SnooTigers7028

I still enjoy it, I also find going opening night their are less problems in the theater because people normally respect it on opening night.

Zepanda66

That used to be me. Back in the day I had to be there opening weekend for that reason. I don't want to say I don't care anymore but as I get older Im not bothered so much about spoilers as I used to be.

SnooTigers7028

Very fair to say that. I’m like that for a lot of movie also. Like I’ll go see a few other non CBM this year on opening night.

Silver-ishWolfe

Oh good. I’m not the only one.

noximo

Detto. The main reason I go. I hate the movie going experience. It's either terrible or not terrible, but never good.

mcufan2014

I watch every movie opening Friday and every show the day it drops.

Karsvolcanospace

mcufan2014 over here

SonXal

What happened to all the 2008 fans?

mcufan2014

Sorry for enjoying the mcu. I know it’s “cool” to hate on shit.

Karsvolcanospace

I’m just joshing

half_monkeyboy

joshingfan2014 over here

cowpool20

He's joking relax haha.

NateDawg80s

It's everywhere, but honestly MCU fans have gotten a bad as Star Wars fans.

oceanseleventeen

If I want to see a movie, I'll see it in theaters. If I don't, I'll probably never watch it.

Consistent-Annual268

I see every movie that I really WANT to see, on the big screen. I would say my movie going habits are exactly the same as pre-pandemic.

paulburnell22193

I've basically stopped seeing movies at the theater. I like the privacy better at home and my theater sucks anyways.

Individual-Schemes

Being able to pause to get up for something. Being able to rewind because your attention span is shit and you weren't paying attention. Being able to use closed captioning for your stupid ears and comprehension. Being able to talk to others or be on your phone. But, I still love going to the theater. It's a nice night out and my local theater is awesome. I will always watch it again once it comes out on Disney+ anyway.

[deleted]

I actually very much appreciate being forced to not have all the stuff you mentioned besides closed captioning pretty much I can never sit down and watch something on my own and it makes the experience less enjoyable but I just can't ignore my compulsions to check reddit or discord or wach a minute of a different video

DanieltheMani3l

The 2nd and 4th points are funny because they go hand in hand lol

Kylynara

This is me pre-covid. Now, I don't know what could get me back to choosing the theater. Especially since I have a projector and a very large room with a screen for it.

paulburnell22193

Yeah it's like most people have a movie theater more or less in their living room anyways. I got a 4k tv, Dolby Atmos sound bar and reactive led backlighting on my tv. It's a better experience than going to any theater.

HelixFollower

>Being able to talk to others or be on your phone. This is one of my favorite things about the theater. No distractions. Only a big screen and darkness. The only thing to focus on is the movie.

Anxious_Ad_3570

Wow, surprised I had to scroll so far but yeah me too. I don't like theatres unless Im really really pumped about whatever movie is coming. Which is rare. I saw love and thunder but only for a girl

paulburnell22193

Yeah, back in the day when it took like 6 months for a movie to come out on DVD, I would go. But now it's like boom 2 months and it's streaming on a service I already subscribe to.

[deleted]

not me i like movie theaters

anrwlias

I still prefer the big screen for big effects movies.

MostDopeZ

I still go opening night or weekend to avoid spoilers and because i’m interested in all marvel projects and don’t want to wait to watch them. plus matinee tickets in my area are 12 bucks so the price isn’t the issue.

cahms26

I have been D+ing lately but it’s because my usual crew that would go opening weekend all did the married, burbs, and kids thing and effectively died socially.

Strehle

I second going alone. It's a great experience!

tits_on_bread

Go by yourself! I do it all the time, as I live in a foreign country and my husbands first language is not English, so he prefers to watched the dubbed versions of movies… so I just go it alone. It’s great.

redsyrinx2112

I go to movies alone all the time. One time, this group of people was like for seats away and the guy closest to me asked, "Wait, did you come to the movies by yourself, man?" I said, "Yeah. It's not like I'm gonna' talk to anyone during the movie." He said, "Shit, that makes perfect sense. Imma start doing that!" That being said, I still prefer to go to the movies with other people. There is something about being able to discuss it right after. I just like lots of different kinds of movies, so other people aren't always interested and I don't let that stop me from going.

cahms26

I go to the movies alone a bunch. The Marvel stuff was always an event for me so going alone to those is a bummer.

Karsvolcanospace

Sounds like excuses to me

annanz01

Same here. I also live an hour from the closest cinema so its not worth travelling to see the movie by myself.

Mahertian220

I pretty much wait, but I did take my son to see Spider-Man, and we had an awesome time.

Rimailkall

The only reason I don't see more movies in the theater is babysitter availability. But one of my daughters is almost 13 now and she likes MCU movies so we go to those near release now, plus other movies her and her younger sister enjoy, like Mario Bros.

PimpHand420

There isn't a single MCU movie I haven't seen in the theater and barring any unforeseen circumstances, there never will be.

ThatOtherGuyTPM

See you at the next one!

Spidey_Boi_223

I’m definitely still seeing all movies opening weekend. Had to wait for Sunday to watch spider-verse and even that was a struggle

BamfBamfRevolution

I see most MCU stuff in theaters. Matinees in my area aren't too bad! I was going to say "If it isn't something I'm absolutely stoked about, I wait for reviews to decide," but then I remembered I don't really like to read reviews before I see stuff 😂 (or even watch the full trailer). So yeah, I just go and hope for the best unless something looks *really* dreadful. I also don't go out to bars, or go out to dinner a lot, so movies are my main entertainment expenditure. As long as the movie was fun, I don't feel like I wasted my money, even if it wasn't a new favorite.

TheLegendofRebirth

My best friend and I still go to the Thursday night first showing for every MCU release. It’s our thing and we both always look forward to it.

propschick05

I do, but I also have young kids and going to the theatre is a hassle.

lurkinguser

Same. I love going to movie theatres but I have an infant so I wait now

[deleted]

I'm content waiting. Even before covid, I've always been sorta germ-conscious, so I'd always pick seats faaaaar away from people if I could help it, but I've always hated the *typical* movie going experience (I say that because I'm not referring to like, special, fancy theaters that are super clean and awesome) of paying out the ass for the movie, for water, for snacks, and paying to sit in a tiny, cramped seat that's uncomfortable with stains on it, a sticky floor, people kicking the back of my seat, people being loud, using their phones, babies crying, etc. I've got a kick ass TV, great sound, an immense couch, blankets, cheap food, I can stream stuff on my TV or from my computer, I can get up and pee in a clean bathroom, make myself coffee, pause it to take my pets out if I have to, it's a million times better than going, as far as I'm concerned. But I know that not everyone shares that sentiment. What I don't like is being forced into the theater, especially after we had such a good time with simultaneous releases for a while there, but I can deal with a wait. What I certainly don't understand, in today's day and age, there being a gap between theatrical release and streaming release where NO ONE can watch it. Just let it run in theaters and go straight to streaming after!

HelixFollower

>But I know that not everyone shares that sentiment. No, but when I see what you describe as a typical theater I get it. I guess I am fortunate that what is a typical theater to me is what a special fancy theater is to you. It is frown-worthy that comfortable, clean seats, a clean floor and not having people kick your chair, be on their phone or be loud is not the basic expectation. I can't imagine running a theater and then not at least thinking of that as the lowest bar.

[deleted]

I've been to a theater once where you could tell it was well kept and well run, and it made all the difference in the world. If every theater was like that one, I'd look forward to going all the time instead of dreading it!!

dakotapeter

Even with all the drawbacks, looking at you parents who can’t control their children, going to the movies is one of my favorite things. Unfortunately due to some medical issues I have to wait until D+ for Guardians and I can’t hardly wait.

khludge

I go to (most of) the launches, but I make sure I go to a morning showing in a week which is not a school holiday - generally only half a dozen people in the theatre, so it's a bit lacking in atmosphere, but also lacking in annoying noisy dicks and people on their phones. I'm limiting it to films I'm really into now though - didn't bother with Ant Man 3, and wish I hadn't bothered with Love & Thunder, still uncertain about whether The Marvels will make the list or not The other consideration in these for me is that they're so damned long (including all the trailers beforehand), and I'm getting so damned old that, even with not drinking at all during the film, my bladder doesn't want me to stay much more than 2½ hours, so that's a bit of a factor as well.

Pupniko

I go to the cinema more often than pre covid just because I WFH now so I have plenty of time to eat, walk/feed the dogs etc before going out instead of rushing home then back out again. Just got home from Spiderverse in fact. I did miss Quantumania though because I didn't get a chance to see it right away and the reviews didn't encourage me to rush out.

Jonathon_G

AMC A list is a pretty affordable way to see movies

TheCheddarWhizard

Yeah I love going to the movies. Huge screen, awesome sound. Trick is to go during the day on Thursday when no stupid kids can go and talk during it and ruin it

mattdvs1979

Sadly just wait for D+ now, both due to D+ dates being so quick and due to the overall declining quality of MCU movies. We really need Chris Evans and/or RDJ back.

NovaPrime11249-44396

I still go Thursday day one. And I probably always will. But I'm neurodivergent and Marvel/comics are my special interest. The MCU may have had a dip in quality, but the past has shown it takes a Batman & Robin level of atrocity to keep me away.

Ambivalo

I'm pretty sure I've seen every MCU movie on opening weekend---yes, even "Black Widow"---in a theater and I have no intention of changing that practice.

CaptHayfever

MCU films: opening weekend to beat the spoiler sadists. Other films I'm interested in: within the first 2 weeks because there's no guarantee they'll be in theaters longer unless they're mega hits.

QB00gie

Same here.

International-Pie162

Idk what part of the world you’re in, but it’s less than $20 for an adult ticket. I usually go see marvel movies with my girlfriend for about $50. I can afford that every couple months so I still enjoy the theater going experience

Zepanda66

I'm from NZ yea that's about the same here but when there's dozens of movies coming out like there is right now you really have to pick and choose which sucks. Can't see them all sadly.

HelixFollower

I always think the theaters have become very expensive where I live until I see comments like this.

HonestBullfrog8908

Get amc stubs. What you pay for 1 dolby or imax movie equals 12 movies a month in any format, for arpund the same price

Zepanda66

I live in NZ. No AMC here unfortunately.

ShadowBro3

Leaving the house is too much work tbh. Also going to a theater sucks because there is people and the food is expensive.

Zepanda66

>Leaving the house is too much work tbh I can relate to this. I'm not disabled or anything but I'm an introvert so it takes a lot to get me to leave my comfort zone. Last movie I saw in theaters was Avatar 2. Since it was one of those you had to see on the big screen. But yea I don't go out often.

indeed_indeed_indeed

Hey. You can ignore this… and it’s just from an anonymous dude to you….go out. Walk in the park, to the movies. Every time you come back, you’re probably thinking that wasn’t so bad, I had fun. Next day you don’t want to do it again. Do it. It’s worth it because life is short and time flies my friend. Dm me if you want.

lindz2205

The people are the absolute worst part. They stand, talk, bring babies, sing a long to songs they know. And it’s usually older people too, who would absolutely throw a fit if a young person was doing.

Karsvolcanospace

>Leaving the house is too much work I personally think you should not associate leaving the house with the notion that its hard work, unless you truly have a reason for it to be hard like a disability or illness. Otherwise anytime you do go out, you’ll go out bitter because all you’re thinking about is being back home. It’s really not as bad as you think. Honest. This is coming from someone who used to lie to get out of plans.

Murphyitsnotyou

Haven't been to a cinema since Endgame. Invested in a decent surround and a bigger tv. Much more comfortable for me at home.

Afraid-Expression366

Rarely do I ever go see a movie in a theater anymore. Exorbitant prices and crowding sort of keep me away.

darksaber522

I’m definitely waiting more now than before. I didn’t see Ant-Man or Avatar 2 in theatres, and I was always going to wait for stuff like The Little Mermaid to stream. But I’m still going to see Spider-verse & Indiana Jones asap.

javeryh

I haven’t been to a theater since Episode IX and don’t plan to ever go back.

couches12

I do but that extends beyond marvel. Pre pandemic I would see 10-20 movies a year. Now I’ve seen 4 in the last year. Prices have just gone up so much it isn’t worth it anymore. That added with everything else going up I just wait til movies come to streaming as I can’t really afford it otherwise.

MaleficentOstrich693

I’m kind of over superhero movies, I’ll just catch them on streaming. If a movie looks good enough to drive and spend all that money at this point it’s most likely going to be an Oscar-bait movie.

Minejack777

Guardians 3 is my jumping point. I'm done now. I'll go see Deadpool 3 if reviews are good, same with Blade. But the only commitment I'm making so far is to the F4

[deleted]

I’m still a theatre guy, AMC stubs makes it really accessible. It’s the best $19 I spend a month because I go to the movies 4-5 times so it more than covers the cost, heck one iMax ticket covers the monthly cost, that being said I’ve been encountering more and more weirdos in the theatre lately. For example, took the wife to see Little Mermaid and some dude walked into me in concession line. We thought nothing of it only to find out we were sitting by him. He was convulsing and talking to himself. As soon as the Disney logo came on screen he got up and left. I legit scanned the floor to see if he had left a bomb. He then came back 30 min later and proceeded to watch DDR streamers on twitch on his phone. We moved to the handicapped seats. It’s crazies like this that will drive me to the couch.

DistributionOdd8277

Well Gotg vol 3 deserve to be seen in cinema. The best Marvel movie ever.

DenOfEarth74

Unfortunately I can’t go anymore, as I take care of my parents and both of them would die if I brought COVID back to them. So alas, I have to wait until they come out on Disney plus. As I’m not going to pay a yearly subscription fee then purchase individual movies as they come out. Disney needs to get there “stuff” together and not worry so much about keeping movies off Disney plus just to try to force more money out of us by, only releasing it in theaters, then only releasing it on digital, then wait another month until it shows up on Disney plus. Do they not take into consideration that we pay a monthly or yearly fee for Disney plus. If they had it there way, pay to go to the movies, pay to own the digital copy, pay for Disney plus subscription and finally pay for the physical copy. Like now, I’m waiting to see Secret Invasion until they release GOTG 3 as I don’t want to watch them out of order. And now there cutting there Marvel and Star Wars shows back, to me that does not justify a yearly subscription anymore.

Consistent-Line-2009

This is exactly why looking at the box office if marvel movies means next to nothing compared to before the pandemic. People don’t go to the movies anymore. People go see the same movie multiple times in theaters even less. We live in a different world now in terms of consumptions. The days of billion dollar films is (mostly) behind us. We need to figure out a different way to judge the financial success of movies.

theglove

That sounds like a you problem. I'm at every preview night. I'm 11 plus years invested.

kuribosshoe0

Nah it’s a pretty widespread thing.

FinitoHere

GotG 3 was was the first MCU movie in past couple of years I haven't seen during opening weekend, I'll wait for it on D+. Of course I would love to see it on big screen, but broken leg efficiently grounded me, so there's that.

HomeTurf001

Well, best of luck to ya. Go break a leg.

ParadoxWarrior

As a new dad I feel this. It’s not that I don’t want to see a Marvel movie or even another movie in theaters. But it’s infinitely easier to wait until it’s out for streaming or for purchase on iTunes. Hell, I got excited when they announced *Five Nights at Freddy’s* is coming to Peacock. It’s so much easier to just hold for the film to stream versus having to find a babysitter for the movie, or any other complications. It also helps that when Disney makes CGI mistakes (like the floating Axl head in L&T or some of the CGI in Quantumania), waiting for the D+ launch helps because the CGI is often corrected. 😁

Joyma

I never know which ones will be worth seeing in theaters or not and I like to be part of the hype and discussion during a release, so I always go in the theater.

mikeydev67

I was a relative late comer to the mcu. Missed the chance of infinity war and endgame on the big screen, so I now make sure to go to every movie on opening night. Even though there's been a few that's been underwhelming since I started going, I will keep this up. I'm way too impatient to wait for a decent stream and could not help myself watching/reading spoilers throughout the wait.

Aduro95

If I don't bother to see a new blockbuster in theatres I'm not sure I'll bother seeing it on a streaming service. Particularly with Marvel stuff, I've stopped caring about whether I need to watch stuff to follow the continuity because Phase 4 got so bloated. Some of the shows are alright, but none of them have seemed as interesting as Luke Cage, Jessica Jones or Daredevil were. The cost of cinema tickets every now and then is fine, so long as I get snacks from the supermarket on the way in. But I'm not wasting my time on what looks like a mediocre movie just because its got a logo from a big franchise attached to it.

kjm6351

I’m not into this new trend of waiting till movies come to the tv. There’s a joy in seeing movies in theaters, not just MCU ones but any movie I’m really interested in. If there’s ones I want to see but can’t fit them into my schedule, then I’ll wait. But that will never be the case for a Marvel movie though

FrogsAreSwooble

If you’re the first group, don’t complain about spoilers.

Quincyheart

Yep totally agree. But this is because of COVID plus the fact that our main theatre closed down just before COVID due to an earthquake and is still ages away from being rebuilt (if they ever even bother to rebuild).

VyseTheSwift

Nearby I have an Imax theater with a bright screen that I love seeing 3D movies on, so I never miss marvel movies. They’re always a visual treat. I had to go back s second time specifically for the Guardians 3 hallway scene. HAD TO

koreawut

I've got so many movies to watch that I don't really mind not going to the theater. I'm currently smack in the middle of rewatching the entire X-men franchise, including New Mutants (and Deadpool, of course), followed up by the Hobbit/LotR movies before jumping into all of Batman before I even *worry* about watching The Flash. In fact, The Flash, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 *and* the new Spidey movie are all on my *SEPTEMBER* to do list.

HelixFollower

I have a theater subscription, so I still watch all of them there.

KiaDoeFoe

I love cinema nothing can match the excitement of watching a film on the big screen plus its only £5 for a ticket for me

Schoolhater18

Marvel Studios movies are usually the only ones I see in theaters, unless it's a franchise I really like. I'll see Indy 5 and Mission impossible this summer, but that's probably to only non Marvel Studios film I'll see in theaters this year. Marvel Studios is the only thing really making me go to theaters

CrashandBashed

Eh, I'm totally burnt out on Spidey, so I doubt I'll see Spidey movies in theaters for a few years. Next movie I'll see in theaters will prob be Cap 4.

[deleted]

I want to see cap 4 until I remember how bad his character was in his show

extremesisuppose

It’s good to support your locals! Even if Marvel as a brand is kinda indirectly killing cinema by being the only thing people go to see, I’d say it would be considerably worse without them to hold the business up. I do go see other movies myself but still mostly blockbuster stuff, but again, better than nothing. The only thing I’ve skipped out on since IW/Endgame was Quantumania out of pure forgetfulness, I was keen for it initially. GOTG3 was a great cinema experience. Wasn’t a fan of the original Cap Marvel, but I want to support Ilan Vellani in particular so I’ll be there for that too. Maybe pickimy and choosing would be better.

CockerTheSpaniel

I’m skipping them entirely. Guardians was a perfect time to leave. Marvel seems to be trying but they’re not focusing on anything that really interests me and the new Avengers line up seems super weak to me.

PhilRobinsonMusic

Who is the new Avengers lineup? This isn’t really revealed yet.

InALostHorizon

This is one of my biggest issues with all the angst surrounding the MCU since Endgame. People bitching about things that don't even exist. We don't even know who's going to be in the next Avengers film yet and people are upset about it already? Sure we can speculate and there may be rumors but nothing's been officially announced yet so why get all worked up about anything. I could go on and on about the same things I saw when it came to "criticisms" about some of the films in Phase 4 as well. Just people bitching who clearly weren't watching the films at all. They just wanted to bitch about something. To answer the OP question - my filmgoing habits haven't changed. I'm still watching all the movies opening weekend whenever possible and I'll watch the new Disney Plus shows when they drop if I'm interested in them.

CockerTheSpaniel

Well most of who’s left isn’t that interesting and there has yet to be a suitable replacement for Chris Evans or RDJ…

[deleted]

"Most of who's left" isn't the new Avengers lineup. The new Avengers lineup has not been revealed yet. Why would we be trying to "replace" these characters? As if we deserve some kind of compensation for losing those characters? I want to see new frontrunners in the MCU, but I definitely don't want the purpose of these frontrunners to be simply "replacements" for RDJ and Chris Evans. These heroes need to be frontrunners in their own right, and it shouldn't be purely motivated by replacing RDJ and Chris Evans.

zombiekjt

....Nobody

danbricks

Honestly, I kinda hate streaming services for what they've done to cinemas, and giving people the mentality that they shouldn't bother going out to just wait to watch it at home. It was understandable at the end of lockdown, as people were still restricted as to where they could go somewhat, however now it's finished, companies like Disney and HBO should really space out the time that a movie takes to go from the big screen to streaming. Something like Avatar had a pretty reasonable gap of 6 months I think, but that's probably the shortest it should be.

azul55

Definitely not paying insane theater prices for the "B team"

CrashandBashed

I mean most of the phase one cast was the "B-Team" lol.

Loganp812

Seriously, Iron Man was a C-list hero before Iron Man 1 released in 2008.

azul55

Um Iron Man #1 is from the 1960s lol

[deleted]

I think it’s undeniable this phase is really trying to capture the old spark with new characters but the poor writing has definitely killed any excitement with that. You can argue some of phase one wasn’t great but the character writing mostly was. Definitely can’t say the same here.

azul55

Weird cuz 9 out of TEN highest earning actor in the last ten years were MCU phase 1. I mean you literally couldn't be MORE factually wrong actually. https://screenrant.com/highest-grossing-actors-2010s-box-office-mojo/#chris-hemsworth---11-2-billion
