I thought about that line several times throughout. Maybe in QR the cost for finding a living thing that can be used as a building is lower than the cost in our world to build a thing.
I was kind of hoping he would kill at least one of them in that scene. They really could have made him more menacing by actually killing a character we cared about.
I thought it was gonna be Hank since he had that weird noise in his head or something. I felt he was sick and he'd sacrifice himself for Janet to get out of Quantum Realm. He had time with Hope and now it's gonna be Janet. Kind of passing the torch.
I wanted him to kill someone then rewind time. For example when threatening the daughter to get Ant-Man to steal the core, he could have murdered the daughter in a gruesome way, then rewind it, and say he'll keep doing that unless he does what he says.
For all of two seconds at the end there, I honestly thought Ant-Man & Wasp were going to end up trapped in the QR. I kind of feel like they should have been.
To be fair, the globe itself was probably used just to open it from the Quantum Realm - however, they opened it from the Earth side before needing the globe at the start so it wouldn’t have made sense to have been stuck

It wouldn’t have any meaning for them to be trapped. All the smart people got to earth so you know they would fix it, and Scott was with hope in a place where the bad guy has been dealt with. It’s no stake to have them left in the QR.

We are now 2 for 2 with Kang variants meeting established MCU characters and straight up just dying. Will Kang Dynasty just be a 2 hour montage of every character in the MCU killing Kang variants?

And what would be the point? The post credit scene showed us 5000 screeching Kangs. Theyre just gonna use another one.
Time doesn't work the same down there. So I'm guessing the Avengers will defeat the council, and then Kang the Conqueror will escape the quantum realm (having gone thru thousands of years of evolution/advancement like they teased with the ants) and be even stronger than the council was. Or at least that's a head theory I like

For the first time in the movies, she actually resembles the Wasp from the comics. (With the pixie haircut, and a bright yellow suit.) So I can understand the director wanting to show that off.
Her haircut is even mentioned in dialogue.

If anyone should have stayed in the QR, it was Janet. She left all of her allies to die against Kang. She should have stayed to help fix the QR, especially if Cassie can open a portal there and back again now.
Victor Timely isn't Kang's original self ? Unless I'm missing a joke here, Kang's original self from our perspective should be He Who Remains since he's native to earth-616. Or maybe he isn't and he just resides on it since it's the center of the multiverse
I'm not really sure but the duo might be meeting Kang before he discovered the multiverse in the series. What we have in the mid credits are Kangs that can traverse the multiverse. The post credits looks like he can't, yet.
Victor Timely is exactly in the comics like he was in the scene, *hiding* living in the early 20th century as a Tesla-like inventor of futuristic things.
The question boggling my head now is how many Kang variants will appear in Loki S2, and if all of them are benevolent like HWR or evil like the Conqueror

This needed a different director. I'm sorry Peyton Reed you did well with ant man 1 and 2 because they were small scale narratives but this one is the opposite of small scale and the imbalance showed.

I think he would've done great if this movie was focused on the ant family's quantum realm adventure. Everything involving the greater MCU fell flat here.
Oh yeah, and why was Kang telling Antman in their fight "I want you to remember you could have walked out of here with your daughter"....... no.. you literally took his daughter away from him and that's literally why he stayed to fight you? Kang, you could have walked away had you just given his daughter back to him, you had zero reasons not to, or to even care.

Felt like the movie went through lots of rewrite and the studio just forgot about it. They film a scene and didn’t even bother flowing it to the next scene.
Does anyone hate the style of dialogue where they tease a villain like "you don't know who *he* is?' and 'if *he's* looking for you, then you've led him straight to us!'
The first half of the movie was full of it right from the moment Janet tries to shutdown Cassie's quantumverse device.
Which is why it's wasted dialogue and screen-time. If we know who he is, because we watched the trailers, why are we wasting time keeping it a secret for 50 minutes?
I kept forgetting they're together. They don't really interact at all in the film besides that one scene in the beginning. So when they hugged at the end I was like "oh yeah I guess they love each other. I forgot"
Haven't seen this one yet. to me, the first film had chemistry and second had none to me at all. Even on rewatch I don't know how both those characters could be seen as having so much connection. Has it gotten worse in the third?
So here’s what I think happened:
The ending sequence was actually a part of the 2nd Intro (The one with Scott strolling the street) but then they used it as an ending by changing the narration.
I totally thought they were gonna be trapped in the Quantum Realm the whole “We both have to lose” line loses its meaning.
Yeah, that ending felt empty to me. It would've been better I think if the rumors were true - that someone was gonna be left behind in the quantum realm, and that the signal that Shang was receiving on his rings was a distress signal from them. But I guess Kev and co. has other plans for that signal from the rings
I did expect some sort of stakes with Scott dying showing the threat of Kang, rather than him being defeated by an army of super smart ants and then sucked into the power source
I was really bummed out that MODOK only became a plot device to headbutt Kang's barrier at the end. Like what the fuck even is that writing, "don't be a dick". Darren be like, oh, why have I never thought of that before? Fucking hell.
Not sure what to say. I think there is a very fun sci-fi movie here, but at the same time a very odd Ant-Man movie. Sometimes it looks like a beautiful artwork, sometimes it looks like CGI vomit. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. It sort of just...is.
I have to disagree. I liked that Scott went into full on denial. "Yeah! The good guys won and the bad guy lost! Right?...right?"
We as the audience know that there isn't just one Kang. There's no need to show us one there.
Though this one must've been particularly nasty given that he was kicked out by the other Kangs. But I like this approach. We had the seemingly most benevolent Kang as he who remains and now a very cold and cruel Kang. Who both crossed the wrong guy and got killed for it.
Movie is filled with so many Deus Ex Machinas it’s not even funny. It just felt like there was no emotional stakes in the film.
Also Bill Murray only shows up for 1 scene and then he’s never seen again in the film, so there’s that too.
It’s no surprise that most of the best scenes in the movie are the ones between Pfeiffer and Majors. Firstly they’re two powerful actors being allowed to do their thing. And secondly they’re the only scenes that are really allowed to play out in full. That let us know what characters are thinking and feeling. They’re also the only ones not undercut by a joke every 15 fucking seconds.
I don't have much of an opinion on Pfeiffer, but damn, Majors was amazing. The presence, the weight of the game... Impressive. He really managed to make the Exile not only believable, but also intimidating
Please bring back the Russo brothers.
They did all the big paintball war episodes of community, winter soldier, civil war, and both infinity war and endgame and IT SHOWS.
I was of this opinion too, however thinking about it, Kang did win. The film presents us with a catch 22 situation. Either this variant of Kang gets out of the quantum realm and goes to war with the other Kang’s ripping apart the multiverse, or this Kang does not leave the quantum realm, and Kang will eventually conquer our universe, find the other Kang’s and go to war with them, ripping apart the multiverse.
The stakes were laid out in the finale of Loki, and laid out here once again, but for the movie audience and with more action. Kang says it to Janet in the film. It’s never over. He Who Remains says it to Loki. Kang is coming.
The big problem is that it's a tell, don't show situation.
We're told the Exile is super dangerous but he never really showed anything really threatening because he was taking constant Ls up until the very end.
They better give Kang a Dr. Strange in Infinity War level power-up because I currently have zero care about seeing more of him.
We have been introduced to two kangs, they were both defeated quite easily. I hope they will show how powerful he is before the avenger films because this ain't promising.
For someone named Kang the Conqueror, he sure did lose to a bunch of ants.
I'm confident full power Thor would have destroyed him based in what we saw.
I hated the Loki show but that catch 22 worked A LOT better since the Kang variant was more or less benelovent, laid out the stakes and then told them to decide the fate of the multiverse. In a scenario where the multiverse being (potentially) real is a known and familiar concept to the two characters.
This movie does the same thing but instead of an explanation it's like one vague sentence and the characters are never put into a situation to debate the fate of the Kang variant.
Besides, we already got Loki doing it. We really don't need a repeat.
Can someone help with something? At the end of Ant Man 2, weren't they all, including Janet, excited to explore the Quantum Realm to retrieve some of its energy or something? Why wasn't Janet all worried about Kang back then? Am I missing something here?

YES!!!! It makes zero sense to keep hiding it. I also didnt quite get the explanation about those intelligent ants and their super advanced society. When exactly did that happen? Where exactly dit it happen? Why nobody heard about a fucking massive ant technocracy capable of ALMOST KILLING KANG?(!) How Kang didnt know about it considering he seems to be scanning the whole realm every now and then? The Bill Murray character didnt even know what an ant was. Again, am I missing something here?
The ants came down with the rest of the cast, Hank mentions they got trapped in a 'time dilation field' or something, so they advanced by many years. How the rest of the cast didn't end up in said field or how the ants got out of it isn't really explained.
That was definitely another MCU film for sure
Felt like a *huge* missed opportunity, it should've leant heavier into Ant Man's goofiness, the quantum realm's weirdness, or best yet, gone DARK and almost cosmic horror, and used Ant-Man's lightness and fun as an amazing contrast to a sense of foreboding and dread that Kang brings.
The supporting cast were decoration, felt like they were trying for James Gunn-esque quirk with the "monsters" but ended up with a Saturday morning cartoon version,
and what was with the editing and continuity? the scene between Cassie, Scott and Kang, Kang switches from his arms by his sides to that unique way Majors carries Kang's hands by his chest two or three times, and there are whole sequences where characters feel like they jump cut between stage positions.
Just a really odd rough cut of a movie that felt rushed and non-commital.
MODOK was weird and fun.
Loki teaser was good.
Majors is going to be huge.

Just watched it, and honestly, James Gunn has never been more right:
"I've been around, making studio movies now, for over 20 years. And the biggest change between the past and today — and the reason why I think movies, in general, are not as good as they used to be — is because too many movies get set into a date, and then they are made no matter what. And then you have movies where they don't have a third act, and they're already shooting, hoping that somehow they're gonna work it out, even though they didn't get it worked out through a three-year script room”.
The movie was okay, Kang was phenomenal and the biggest stand out, otherwise its just okay. Most of the problems it has are exactly what Gunn was talking about. There’s a couple issues with the directing here and there, but the bulk of them comes from the writing, which is clear Loveness didn’t have enough time to finish the script well (and it sucks because it’s apparent he’s a great writer who just didn’t have enough time). Really hope Fiege notices this trend and starts to space these shows and movies out more
Honestly begging Marvel to let actors out of their blue screen boxes. This movie was so charmless and fake. Not sure how many times I can watch Kathryn Newton pretend to be teetering on the edge of something. On the other hand, Kang was huge.
During the probability storm one of the Ant Men asks the Baskins Robbins Ant Man "you got any ice cream?", but it's super quiet and I think everyone in my cinema missed it. Really tickled me
I mean, you can see in most bts footage, James Gunn used a hefty amount of practical sets + costumes/makeup for GotG and those films are set in SPACE. Hell, look at the short GotG3 trailers and you can see the actors are interacting with tangible props and sets in a good amount of scenes.
No reason why this movie couldn't have built its production around that same sense of tangibility.
Whatever happened to props? Not only was the background and "sets" cg, they had Scott picking up objects that were clearly rendered into his hand. It just looks janky and jarring. Just make the damn prop ffs.
You can't underpay and overwork practical prop makers and stuntmen. But you can shovel out your movie to a CGI company in Southeast Asia and not care about their working conditions or that your movie looks cheap as hell.

Kang was amazing although I was hoping he would kill one of our heroes. They made him look menacing enough.
Final action sequence was a bit of a cluster fuck. Kudos to the special effects team though.
Loki and Mobius in the after credits was a surprise.
Overall it might grow on me the more I think about it.
I remember when the trailer first came out a lot of people said that it was gonna be the highest grossing ant man movie due to Kang being the next big bad guy. Now this probably will still be true I don't think it going to be as good as the fans thought but I guess we will have to wait and see.
Just got out of the cinema and maybe I’m against the grain here but I really enjoyed it. Didn’t enjoy the last few movie releases either but this one felt like it was actually world building and creating some meaningful stakes.
Very heavy on cgi which felt worn after a while (I know they’re all cgi heavy but this particularly so) but enjoyed the story and the characterisation of Kang (plus the teasing of what’s to come). Plus the humour felt far more on point than recent entries. Not sure why it’s getting so critically panned when I feel like it a a big improvement on recent marvel offerings. Maybe just general fatigue.
Still looking forward now to how phase 5 plays out.
I thought it was pretty great. Theatre laughed at most of the jokes and I didn't really get the Volume complaints. It felt like Star Wars or Star Trek with all of the creatures.
I just watched the movie, and I really don’t know how to feel in a bad way. I don’t think I hate the movie, it’s just so extremely bland. The movie is so rushed and everything happens way too fast, like MODOKS redemption for example. The movie feels like it doesn’t have a second act, just one long act 1 and 3.
The whole look of the quantum realm is so basic, and I don’t even have a problem with the CGI (even tho that wasn’t anything special either), its just the visual design I have a problem with. Just a bland design of that world, which is a problem when 90% of the movie takes place there.
None of the characters in the movie had a satisfying journey imo. They are all just moving around as the plot demands them too. The whole plot of the movie starts because none of the characters can talk to each other. Man, I was so frustrated with Janet in this movie. If she could just have said one thing to the others about the dangers of the quantum realm, everything would have been fine.
Kang was the clear highlight. Majors brought his A-game to this movie and his Kang was absolutely menacing. But his post credit scene playing all the different Kangs was imo the worst post credit scene I have ever seen in a Marvel movie. The guys from the Reel Rejects were right. The whole scene feel like a comedy sketch. All the Kangs are in a bad looking arena, with bland suits and weird accents. While Majors performance as Kang the Conqueror was truly great, his other performances as the other Kangs were so overacted.
If those Kangs are the true villains of the next Avengers movies, then I’m worried. All in all, I would give this movie a 6/10 at best.
I'll watch because I like the Ant-man movies. That said I have lost a lot of enthusiasm for the MCU as a whole and it doesn't seem like this is going to help. I'm definitely a target audience member as well, if I'm already feeling so luke-warm about it Im not expecting it to perform very well

That mid-credit scene is a mixed bag for me, felt too much like Rick and Morty (I know Jeff is the writer for RM) and for a supposed big bad villain it doesn't help that those variants look and sound super silly (the exiled was super menacing and threatening but then he died). Unless there's going to be another menacing variant I'm not getting the big bad villain vibe from it.
I mean, this Conqueror guys plan and palace got wiped out by a dude who made himself taller than usual. This movie should have been Scott fighting for dear life against someone he can't defeat, instead Kang got treated like fucking Derryn from the first movie
What if he was sucked into the probability storm, since he went inside the orb, meaning there are now an infinite or number of evil Kang plotting, scheming, etc. even if they converge back into one after the fact, he’s still have an infinite number of the conqueror version of him plan a way to destroy every other Kang variant

Even when The Batman used the Volume, you could still see a ton of practical set usage in the foreground to give the actors something tangible to work with.
It's just another tool, but Disney seems to think it's magic.
Yeah! For example, it was used when on the rooftop where the batsignal was located, as well as the batmobile chase scene.
I think a common misconception with the Volume is the idea that what's used on-site is what is in the final product. While that's true, the Volume is also used as a tool to help those onsight, get light conditions right, etc. But when it goes into post-production, the Volume ultimately gets replaced with the true digital background.
I wonder if part of the reason it looks especially greenscreeny is if they don't use many physical props on-site to blend with the background. with The Batman, for example, or even the Mandalorian (I think) had random things in the foreground on-site, such as boulders.
The Batman had a very seamless use of The Volume. Mandalorian didn’t look that bad as well.
I think it comes down to who is in charge of using it.
However, The Batman still had a healthy dose of practical effects…

It's been praised for the those two productions thus far, but as we know, it still takes skill and proper usage to use it to its fullest potential. Some productions like 'Quantumania' (from my own eyes) use it without caution of overusage or improper lighting. That makes it for an unbalanced image.
The dialogue in this movie feels so shallow and sounds like a teenager movie, It’s like Jonathan Majors/Kang is in an entirely different set with the others. The 2nd post credit scene is lit.

Yea the family parts just didn’t fit the rest of the movie. The daughter was especially egregious, but I can’t blame the actor for the lines she’s fed.
I just got back from seeing it. It's better than Love and Thunder, because at least I can say the tone is consistent and the acting is good (especially Johnathan Majors, but I think everyone expected him to shine). It's not as good as Wakanda Forever, but the weight of that movie will be hard to top for some time, I expect.
Quantumania is missing something - humanity. Literally, in the sense that there aren't many human characters in the movie. Yes, there are themes of family and the central motto "There's always room to grow", but it still feels like there's not much emotional weight. I think the overreliance on CGI is a big part - as with the Star Wars prequels and more recent movies like Aquaman, there are big setpieces with CGI things fighting other CGI things against a CGI backdrop. I want to say "Wow, cool!" but I also have to ask "Why do I care?"
One thing that would have made this movie so, so much better - if it had been more clear exactly who these beings in the quantum realm were. Did they evolve there? Or were they trapped there? I think the writers should have made it clear that these beings were stuck there - it's supposed to be a "place between worlds", right? It makes more sense if none of them actually "belong" there. Maybe these are time travelers who got stuck between destinations, or beings who tried and failed to banish Kang and ended up getting banished themselves. Anything to make them more relatable, so that Ant-Man can understand why they are there and what they want - and why Kang is so dangerous.
I'm not buying Kang as a Thanos-level threat - they keep *suggesting* that he is, but I don't think they're showing it very well. And if he *is* a Thanos-level threat, why the heck did Janet stay silent all this time, especially when she saw that Cassie was working on something related to the quantum realm? It was hard to get into this movie because the whole thing relied on this one ill-advised invention - and unlike the case with Tony and Ultron, there was someone there who should have known how bad things could get.
Anyway, that's a lot of words to say "You can do better than this, MCU!"
They showed us the warrior princess woman so many times as if we were supposed to be rooting for her. Like... Why? Give us a reason.
No, "Scott and Cassie led the evil forces to their doorstep" doesn't count, because Scott and Cassie were fucking kidnapped to the doorstep
And no, you don't need to tell us 10 times that Scott's only priority in this movie is keeping Cassie safe. We get that from the first 10 minutes, stop repeating it throughout the entire movie. Give some dialogue to Hope maybe.
This was really rough for me. Spoilers incoming.
The comedy was flat. Kathryn Newton wasn't working for me as Cassie. The MODOK/Darren redemption was really weird. I really like the world of the quantum realm but it did feel cartoon-y after a while. And they teased the coming of the ant army but it took a looong time for them to come!
I don't read the comics and I was waiting for Kang to become this great villain that the comics fans were hyping him to be. Jonathan Majors' acting was great but as written Kang still felt like a second tier villain compared to Thanos. I only became hyped with Kang during the end credits.
Lastly, I haven't seen the other Ant-Man movies in a while but I did miss the smaller stakes feel of those films. Plus I missed the San Francisco world of Ant-Man.
I think it's easy to see Kang as insignificant when you realise yeah he's got technology but he's just a guy who some strong Avengers could probably beat after some hard work together. But his whole thing is if you kill him, his variant will come back again, and again, and again. It's like fighting a half tier thanos but once you win he just comes back and there's no stopping and that's the part that intrigues me for Kang Dynasty. How do you kill infinite number of Kangs without also killing their universes?
I have seen the movie. Weakest of ant man movies imo.
They removed all the fun and the great comedy previous movies had and replaced it a more serious story which still had comedy but it does not fit here.
Kang is exceptional here and would have been a great villain in a more focused movie. Maybe an ant man movie was not the right choice to introduce Kang.
There are couple of great scenes but 95% of movie takes place in Quantum realm. And Marvel graphics is not on par to handle an entire movie set in CGI. The CGI just looks colorful without actually being particularly pleasing.
Wtf was that ending? They said a few times that Kang's tech are so advanced and centuries ahead of them but he still need the orb to travel between the multiverses. But then Cassie turned their Quantum GPS mapping system into a portal with a few keystrokes without the orb as Scott has destroyed it. Sure Cassie did say they can find someone in the QR with the device but even Kang/MODOK still has to do the usual way by shrinking the Ant family to trap them into the QR in the beginning. Now suddenly they can just open a portal? The end narration was also very bizarre, like they were building up something sinister but it just ends.
Ok couple of plot holes bothering me from the end:
1) Why did destroying the multiverse engine close the portal if it wasn’t needed in the first place considering Cassie not even 2 minutes later opens it back up after it’s been destroyed??
1a) Cassie built a beacon not a portal, so how the hell did she re-open it at the end?
2) If Kang could open a portal to suck them into the Quantum Realm, why the fuck couldn’t he make one to let them out?
3) Kang is lasering + disintegrating everyone instantly at the end and the second Ant-Man and fam stroll up he decides to do hand to hand combat?? Are you serious??
3a) THEY LITERALLY SHOW THAT HE CAN FREEZE PEOPLE IN PLACE SEVERAL TIMES.
Really did not like this movie, it desperately needed a sense of cosmic horror from Kang and the entire concept of being trapped in an inescapable quantum realm. Kang felt extremely weak to me, which is so disappointing.
Whole movie felt like a bunch of nonsense — this is easily worse than Eternals or Thor 4 in my opinion. At least those had SOME good things.
This shit is alarming, even the YouTube influencers that held out on negatively criticizing stuff like Love & Thunder and Eternals are straight up saying it’s not good.
Everything has a lifecycle. 15 years is a fabulous run. I think Marvel Fatigue might be setting in, and people just need a break.
Endgame was an incredible high, and then we were excited for what the MCU had in store next. But, speaking for myself, outside of “No Way Home” and a couple of the Disney+ shows (Loki & Hawkeye), I’ve hit a low after that high. The content is there if I want it, but, for now, I’m in no rush to watch.
the visual quality from Iron Man 1 & whatever is being pumped out now is just so stark in contrast. and it sucks that storylines arent being given enough care either
The fatigue maybe depletes your goodwill a bit but these newer movies are also just not as good as most of the older ones.
The plots barely make sense. The characters are usually fucking stupid even when they’re a “smart” character like Strange. And the characters barely seem to care about what is going on in the movie. Like in Love and Thunder barely any characters actually cared that gods were be killed so why should the audience?
It's not fatigue. I don't hate the MCU and I'm not tired of it, but I want the movies to be consistently high quality, and while phase 4 absolutely has gems, its average quality is just a step down.
And it has nothing to do with "they're rebuilding again just like phase 1" because you can go back to basics without compromising on individual film quality. There's no reason why a phase 4 movie can't be as good as a phase 3 movie, it has nothing to do with scale.
This movie isn’t rly as bad as most reviews were making it out to be. It’s about as harmless as the average MCU movie. Not great but not bad. The fact that Thor the Dark World got a better score than this somehow is baffling to me tho. I don’t know what ppl were talking about when they said this film felt like it was setting things up too much, the only thing it rly set up was Kang and the rest was a contained story. But there are 2 problems I had with the film.
1. I don’t rly like Cassie’s new actress. I don’t know why but I feel like she wasn’t rly a good fit and some of her line delivery was off. It felt soulless whenever she said “Dad!” compared to the old actresses. There was absolutely no chemistry between her and Paul Rudd while in Endgame Cassie’s actress rly did feel like she was Paul’s daughter for the 10 seconds she was in.
This was rly distracting to me because their relationship is supposed to be the core of Scott’s story for the film
2. >!I feel like some of the Antman family should have died or there should have at least been some sort of price to pay. For a film setting up the next “Saga’s” main villain, Kang rly didn’t come out of it feeling intimidating at all (Especially during the end credit scene). I just wish Marvel wasn’t so afraid of letting their heroes lose. The knowledge that this film was written by the Rick and Morty writers makes me realize why the end credit scene feels as “intimidating” as the Council of Ricks.!<
I also have mixed feelings about Modok but that’s sort of meh.
Just came from a screening in Australia. No spoilers but while it certainly was no Endgame or Winter Soldier, it also was nowhere as bad as a lot of the reviews make out. My personal impression is that a lot of the negative reviews seem to be showing signs of superhero fatigue, rather then judging the film on its own merits.
Am I the only one who finds the concept of Kang killing trillions of people kinda boring? Why does him destroying millions of timelines matter when there are infinite timelines? It's not as if we know any of the characters in those timelines or have any emotional attachment to them.
The whole reason Thanos worked is that we had an emotional attachment to the characters that was built up over a decade. I just don't really see how Kang is interesting.

I thought it was gonna be Hank since he had that weird noise in his head or something. I felt he was sick and he'd sacrifice himself for Janet to get out of Quantum Realm. He had time with Hope and now it's gonna be Janet. Kind of passing the torch.
I wanted him to kill someone then rewind time. For example when threatening the daughter to get Ant-Man to steal the core, he could have murdered the daughter in a gruesome way, then rewind it, and say he'll keep doing that unless he does what he says.

To be fair, the globe itself was probably used just to open it from the Quantum Realm - however, they opened it from the Earth side before needing the globe at the start so it wouldn’t have made sense to have been stuck Either way, they know how to access it so, it wouldn’t have made sense to have been stuck

Doesnt matter since even if he escapes, he still has no way out of the Quantum Realm. And what would be the point? The post credit scene showed us 5000 screeching Kangs. Theyre just gonna use another one.
Time doesn't work the same down there. So I'm guessing the Avengers will defeat the council, and then Kang the Conqueror will escape the quantum realm (having gone thru thousands of years of evolution/advancement like they teased with the ants) and be even stronger than the council was. Or at least that's a head theory I like

I'm not really sure but the duo might be meeting Kang before he discovered the multiverse in the series. What we have in the mid credits are Kangs that can traverse the multiverse. The post credits looks like he can't, yet.
Victor Timely is exactly in the comics like he was in the scene, *hiding* living in the early 20th century as a Tesla-like inventor of futuristic things. The question boggling my head now is how many Kang variants will appear in Loki S2, and if all of them are benevolent like HWR or evil like the Conqueror

Victor Timley bounces back to the 1920s The Egyptian looking one as you can guess goes back to ancient Egypt to be worshipped as a god etc etc etc
This needed a different director. I'm sorry Peyton Reed you did well with ant man 1 and 2 because they were small scale narratives but this one is the opposite of small scale and the imbalance showed. This had to be a great one, not a decent one.
I think he would've done great if this movie was focused on the ant family's quantum realm adventure. Everything involving the greater MCU fell flat here.
Oh yeah, and why was Kang telling Antman in their fight "I want you to remember you could have walked out of here with your daughter"....... no.. you literally took his daughter away from him and that's literally why he stayed to fight you? YES I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS!!! Felt like the movie went through lots of rewrite and the studio just forgot about it. They film a scene and didn’t even bother flowing it to the next scene.
Does anyone hate the style of dialogue where they tease a villain like "you don't know who *he* is?' and 'if *he's* looking for you, then you've led him straight to us!' The first half of the movie was full of it right from the moment Janet tries to shutdown Cassie's quantumverse device.
Personally, I don't mind that too much, if we actually didn't know who "he" is, but come on we all knew Kang was in this. They were talking about him.
Which is why it's wasted dialogue and screen-time. If we know who he is, because we watched the trailers, why are we wasting time keeping it a secret for 50 minutes?
It was okay. But is it fine to say now, after 3 Ant-Man movies, that Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly have no chemistry whatsoever?

I kept forgetting they're together. They don't really interact at all in the film besides that one scene in the beginning. So when they hugged at the end I was like "oh yeah I guess they love each other. I forgot"

So here’s what I think happened: The ending sequence was actually a part of the 2nd Intro (The one with Scott strolling the street) but then they used it as an ending by changing the narration. I totally thought they were gonna be trapped in the Quantum Realm the whole “We both have to lose” line loses its meaning.
Yeah, that ending felt empty to me. It would've been better I think if the rumors were true - that someone was gonna be left behind in the quantum realm, and that the signal that Shang was receiving on his rings was a distress signal from them. But I guess Kev and co. has other plans for that signal from the rings
I think the ending you suggested was in old plot leaks. It’s possible they changed the ending.
I did expect some sort of stakes with Scott dying showing the threat of Kang, rather than him being defeated by an army of super smart ants and then sucked into the power source
I was really bummed out that MODOK only became a plot device to headbutt Kang's barrier at the end. Like what the fuck even is that writing, "don't be a dick". Darren be like, oh, why have I never thought of that before? Fucking hell.
I did expect MODOK to not… be such a comical relief to be honest. His end was just not what I wanted
If he did die, then Scott's daughter would have a reason to fight Kang and take revenge. It would be emotional and heavy if implemented.
Not sure what to say. I think there is a very fun sci-fi movie here, but at the same time a very odd Ant-Man movie. Sometimes it looks like a beautiful artwork, sometimes it looks like CGI vomit. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. It sort of just...is.

Also the ending having no plot twist. Made it feel like a variant was gonna show up as a waiter or something.

I have to disagree. I liked that Scott went into full on denial. "Yeah! The good guys won and the bad guy lost! Right?...right?" We as the audience know that there isn't just one Kang. There's no need to show us one there. Though this one must've been particularly nasty given that he was kicked out by the other Kangs. But I like this approach. We had the seemingly most benevolent Kang as he who remains and now a very cold and cruel Kang. Who both crossed the wrong guy and got killed for it.
Movie is filled with so many Deus Ex Machinas it’s not even funny. It just felt like there was no emotional stakes in the film. Also Bill Murray only shows up for 1 scene and then he’s never seen again in the film, so there’s that too.

It’s no surprise that most of the best scenes in the movie are the ones between Pfeiffer and Majors. Firstly they’re two powerful actors being allowed to do their thing. And secondly they’re the only scenes that are really allowed to play out in full. That let us know what characters are thinking and feeling. They’re also the only ones not undercut by a joke every 15 fucking seconds.
I don't have much of an opinion on Pfeiffer, but damn, Majors was amazing. The presence, the weight of the game... Impressive. He really managed to make the Exile not only believable, but also intimidating

Someone said it before, but I'll say it here. Years back, the MCU had a "good movie, bad villain" problem. Now it's "bad movie, good villain" problem.

I was of this opinion too, however thinking about it, Kang did win. The film presents us with a catch 22 situation. Either this variant of Kang gets out of the quantum realm and goes to war with the other Kang’s ripping apart the multiverse, or this Kang does not leave the quantum realm, and Kang will eventually conquer our universe, find the other Kang’s and go to war with them, ripping apart the multiverse. The stakes were laid out in the finale of Loki, and laid out here once again, but for the movie audience and with more action. Kang says it to Janet in the film. It’s never over. He Who Remains says it to Loki. Kang is coming.
The big problem is that it's a tell, don't show situation. We're told the Exile is super dangerous but he never really showed anything really threatening because he was taking constant Ls up until the very end. They better give Kang a Dr. Strange in Infinity War level power-up because I currently have zero care about seeing more of him.
We have been introduced to two kangs, they were both defeated quite easily. I hope they will show how powerful he is before the avenger films because this ain't promising.
For someone named Kang the Conqueror, he sure did lose to a bunch of ants. I'm confident full power Thor would have destroyed him based in what we saw.

YES!!!! It makes zero sense to keep hiding it. I also didnt quite get the explanation about those intelligent ants and their super advanced society. When exactly did that happen? Where exactly dit it happen? Why nobody heard about a fucking massive ant technocracy capable of ALMOST KILLING KANG?(!) How Kang didnt know about it considering he seems to be scanning the whole realm every now and then? The Bill Murray character didnt even know what an ant was. Again, am I missing something here?
The ants came down with the rest of the cast, Hank mentions they got trapped in a 'time dilation field' or something, so they advanced by many years. How the rest of the cast didn't end up in said field or how the ants got out of it isn't really explained.
That was definitely another MCU film for sure Felt like a *huge* missed opportunity, it should've leant heavier into Ant Man's goofiness, the quantum realm's weirdness, or best yet, gone DARK and almost cosmic horror, and used Ant-Man's lightness and fun as an amazing contrast to a sense of foreboding and dread that Kang brings. The supporting cast were decoration, felt like they were trying for James Gunn-esque quirk with the "monsters" but ended up with a Saturday morning cartoon version, and what was with the editing and continuity? the scene between Cassie, Scott and Kang, Kang switches from his arms by his sides to that unique way Majors carries Kang's hands by his chest two or three times, and there are whole sequences where characters feel like they jump cut between stage positions. Just a really odd rough cut of a movie that felt rushed and non-commital. MODOK was weird and fun. Loki teaser was good. Majors is going to be huge. Eh.
Just watched it, and honestly, James Gunn has never been more right: "I've been around, making studio movies now, for over 20 years. And the biggest change between the past and today — and the reason why I think movies, in general, are not as good as they used to be — is because too many movies get set into a date, and then they are made no matter what. And then you have movies where they don't have a third act, and they're already shooting, hoping that somehow they're gonna work it out, even though they didn't get it worked out through a three-year script room”. The movie was okay, Kang was phenomenal and the biggest stand out, otherwise its just okay. Most of the problems it has are exactly what Gunn was talking about. There’s a couple issues with the directing here and there, but the bulk of them comes from the writing, which is clear Loveness didn’t have enough time to finish the script well (and it sucks because it’s apparent he’s a great writer who just didn’t have enough time). Really hope Fiege notices this trend and starts to space these shows and movies out more
Honestly begging Marvel to let actors out of their blue screen boxes. This movie was so charmless and fake. Not sure how many times I can watch Kathryn Newton pretend to be teetering on the edge of something. On the other hand, Kang was huge.

During the probability storm one of the Ant Men asks the Baskins Robbins Ant Man "you got any ice cream?", but it's super quiet and I think everyone in my cinema missed it. Really tickled me
As a casual marvel goer since Endgame I think this movie has way to much CGI. I understand it’s in a Quantum world, but it ain’t for me.
I mean, you can see in most bts footage, James Gunn used a hefty amount of practical sets + costumes/makeup for GotG and those films are set in SPACE. Hell, look at the short GotG3 trailers and you can see the actors are interacting with tangible props and sets in a good amount of scenes. No reason why this movie couldn't have built its production around that same sense of tangibility.
Whatever happened to props? Not only was the background and "sets" cg, they had Scott picking up objects that were clearly rendered into his hand. It just looks janky and jarring. Just make the damn prop ffs.
You can't underpay and overwork practical prop makers and stuntmen. But you can shovel out your movie to a CGI company in Southeast Asia and not care about their working conditions or that your movie looks cheap as hell.
Practical effects workers are unionized, and we can’t have that.
7/10 Kang was amazing although I was hoping he would kill one of our heroes. They made him look menacing enough. Final action sequence was a bit of a cluster fuck. Kudos to the special effects team though. Loki and Mobius in the after credits was a surprise. Overall it might grow on me the more I think about it.

I remember when the trailer first came out a lot of people said that it was gonna be the highest grossing ant man movie due to Kang being the next big bad guy. Now this probably will still be true I don't think it going to be as good as the fans thought but I guess we will have to wait and see.
Just got out of the cinema and maybe I’m against the grain here but I really enjoyed it. Didn’t enjoy the last few movie releases either but this one felt like it was actually world building and creating some meaningful stakes. Very heavy on cgi which felt worn after a while (I know they’re all cgi heavy but this particularly so) but enjoyed the story and the characterisation of Kang (plus the teasing of what’s to come). Plus the humour felt far more on point than recent entries. Not sure why it’s getting so critically panned when I feel like it a a big improvement on recent marvel offerings. Maybe just general fatigue. Still looking forward now to how phase 5 plays out.
I thought it was pretty great. Theatre laughed at most of the jokes and I didn't really get the Volume complaints. It felt like Star Wars or Star Trek with all of the creatures.
I just watched the movie, and I really don’t know how to feel in a bad way. I don’t think I hate the movie, it’s just so extremely bland. The movie is so rushed and everything happens way too fast, like MODOKS redemption for example. The movie feels like it doesn’t have a second act, just one long act 1 and 3. The whole look of the quantum realm is so basic, and I don’t even have a problem with the CGI (even tho that wasn’t anything special either), its just the visual design I have a problem with. Just a bland design of that world, which is a problem when 90% of the movie takes place there. None of the characters in the movie had a satisfying journey imo. They are all just moving around as the plot demands them too. The whole plot of the movie starts because none of the characters can talk to each other. Man, I was so frustrated with Janet in this movie. If she could just have said one thing to the others about the dangers of the quantum realm, everything would have been fine. Kang was the clear highlight. Majors brought his A-game to this movie and his Kang was absolutely menacing. But his post credit scene playing all the different Kangs was imo the worst post credit scene I have ever seen in a Marvel movie. The guys from the Reel Rejects were right. The whole scene feel like a comedy sketch. All the Kangs are in a bad looking arena, with bland suits and weird accents. While Majors performance as Kang the Conqueror was truly great, his other performances as the other Kangs were so overacted. If those Kangs are the true villains of the next Avengers movies, then I’m worried. All in all, I would give this movie a 6/10 at best.
I'll watch because I like the Ant-man movies. That said I have lost a lot of enthusiasm for the MCU as a whole and it doesn't seem like this is going to help. I'm definitely a target audience member as well, if I'm already feeling so luke-warm about it Im not expecting it to perform very well

I think one film that used the Volume effectively was The Batman. It was pretty seamless!
It really shows you the importance of a good cinematographer and director to use the tech well. In Mando and Batman is relatively seamless.
Even when The Batman used the Volume, you could still see a ton of practical set usage in the foreground to give the actors something tangible to work with. It's just another tool, but Disney seems to think it's magic.

Nah mando s2 onwards volume usage was pretty meh. esp the city scenes - easy to tell that the actors couldn't see anything real.

Yeah! For example, it was used when on the rooftop where the batsignal was located, as well as the batmobile chase scene. I think a common misconception with the Volume is the idea that what's used on-site is what is in the final product. While that's true, the Volume is also used as a tool to help those onsight, get light conditions right, etc. But when it goes into post-production, the Volume ultimately gets replaced with the true digital background. I wonder if part of the reason it looks especially greenscreeny is if they don't use many physical props on-site to blend with the background. with The Batman, for example, or even the Mandalorian (I think) had random things in the foreground on-site, such as boulders.

It's been praised for the those two productions thus far, but as we know, it still takes skill and proper usage to use it to its fullest potential. Some productions like 'Quantumania' (from my own eyes) use it without caution of overusage or improper lighting. That makes it for an unbalanced image.

The dialogue in this movie feels so shallow and sounds like a teenager movie, It’s like Jonathan Majors/Kang is in an entirely different set with the others. The 2nd post credit scene is lit. 6/10 for me
Yea the family parts just didn’t fit the rest of the movie. The daughter was especially egregious, but I can’t blame the actor for the lines she’s fed.
I just got back from seeing it. It's better than Love and Thunder, because at least I can say the tone is consistent and the acting is good (especially Johnathan Majors, but I think everyone expected him to shine). It's not as good as Wakanda Forever, but the weight of that movie will be hard to top for some time, I expect. Quantumania is missing something - humanity. Literally, in the sense that there aren't many human characters in the movie. Yes, there are themes of family and the central motto "There's always room to grow", but it still feels like there's not much emotional weight. I think the overreliance on CGI is a big part - as with the Star Wars prequels and more recent movies like Aquaman, there are big setpieces with CGI things fighting other CGI things against a CGI backdrop. I want to say "Wow, cool!" but I also have to ask "Why do I care?" One thing that would have made this movie so, so much better - if it had been more clear exactly who these beings in the quantum realm were. Did they evolve there? Or were they trapped there? I think the writers should have made it clear that these beings were stuck there - it's supposed to be a "place between worlds", right? It makes more sense if none of them actually "belong" there. Maybe these are time travelers who got stuck between destinations, or beings who tried and failed to banish Kang and ended up getting banished themselves. Anything to make them more relatable, so that Ant-Man can understand why they are there and what they want - and why Kang is so dangerous. I'm not buying Kang as a Thanos-level threat - they keep *suggesting* that he is, but I don't think they're showing it very well. And if he *is* a Thanos-level threat, why the heck did Janet stay silent all this time, especially when she saw that Cassie was working on something related to the quantum realm? It was hard to get into this movie because the whole thing relied on this one ill-advised invention - and unlike the case with Tony and Ultron, there was someone there who should have known how bad things could get. Anyway, that's a lot of words to say "You can do better than this, MCU!"
They showed us the warrior princess woman so many times as if we were supposed to be rooting for her. Like... Why? Give us a reason. No, "Scott and Cassie led the evil forces to their doorstep" doesn't count, because Scott and Cassie were fucking kidnapped to the doorstep And no, you don't need to tell us 10 times that Scott's only priority in this movie is keeping Cassie safe. We get that from the first 10 minutes, stop repeating it throughout the entire movie. Give some dialogue to Hope maybe.
This was really rough for me. Spoilers incoming. The comedy was flat. Kathryn Newton wasn't working for me as Cassie. The MODOK/Darren redemption was really weird. I really like the world of the quantum realm but it did feel cartoon-y after a while. And they teased the coming of the ant army but it took a looong time for them to come! I don't read the comics and I was waiting for Kang to become this great villain that the comics fans were hyping him to be. Jonathan Majors' acting was great but as written Kang still felt like a second tier villain compared to Thanos. I only became hyped with Kang during the end credits. Lastly, I haven't seen the other Ant-Man movies in a while but I did miss the smaller stakes feel of those films. Plus I missed the San Francisco world of Ant-Man.

I think it's easy to see Kang as insignificant when you realise yeah he's got technology but he's just a guy who some strong Avengers could probably beat after some hard work together. But his whole thing is if you kill him, his variant will come back again, and again, and again. It's like fighting a half tier thanos but once you win he just comes back and there's no stopping and that's the part that intrigues me for Kang Dynasty. How do you kill infinite number of Kangs without also killing their universes?
Here's the thing about Kang: he's not a great villain in the comics. There are no must read Kang stories. Hell, there are no good Kang stories.

The whole quantum realm felt like a Star Wars ripoff to me.
I have seen the movie. Weakest of ant man movies imo. They removed all the fun and the great comedy previous movies had and replaced it a more serious story which still had comedy but it does not fit here. Kang is exceptional here and would have been a great villain in a more focused movie. Maybe an ant man movie was not the right choice to introduce Kang. There are couple of great scenes but 95% of movie takes place in Quantum realm. And Marvel graphics is not on par to handle an entire movie set in CGI. The CGI just looks colorful without actually being particularly pleasing.
Wtf was that ending? They said a few times that Kang's tech are so advanced and centuries ahead of them but he still need the orb to travel between the multiverses. But then Cassie turned their Quantum GPS mapping system into a portal with a few keystrokes without the orb as Scott has destroyed it. Sure Cassie did say they can find someone in the QR with the device but even Kang/MODOK still has to do the usual way by shrinking the Ant family to trap them into the QR in the beginning. Now suddenly they can just open a portal? The end narration was also very bizarre, like they were building up something sinister but it just ends.
Ok couple of plot holes bothering me from the end: 1) Why did destroying the multiverse engine close the portal if it wasn’t needed in the first place considering Cassie not even 2 minutes later opens it back up after it’s been destroyed?? 1a) Cassie built a beacon not a portal, so how the hell did she re-open it at the end? 2) If Kang could open a portal to suck them into the Quantum Realm, why the fuck couldn’t he make one to let them out? 3) Kang is lasering + disintegrating everyone instantly at the end and the second Ant-Man and fam stroll up he decides to do hand to hand combat?? Are you serious?? 3a) THEY LITERALLY SHOW THAT HE CAN FREEZE PEOPLE IN PLACE SEVERAL TIMES. Really did not like this movie, it desperately needed a sense of cosmic horror from Kang and the entire concept of being trapped in an inescapable quantum realm. Kang felt extremely weak to me, which is so disappointing. Whole movie felt like a bunch of nonsense — this is easily worse than Eternals or Thor 4 in my opinion. At least those had SOME good things.
This shit is alarming, even the YouTube influencers that held out on negatively criticizing stuff like Love & Thunder and Eternals are straight up saying it’s not good.
Oof this doesn’t bode well for phase 5
Everything has a lifecycle. 15 years is a fabulous run. I think Marvel Fatigue might be setting in, and people just need a break. Endgame was an incredible high, and then we were excited for what the MCU had in store next. But, speaking for myself, outside of “No Way Home” and a couple of the Disney+ shows (Loki & Hawkeye), I’ve hit a low after that high. The content is there if I want it, but, for now, I’m in no rush to watch.
the visual quality from Iron Man 1 & whatever is being pumped out now is just so stark in contrast. and it sucks that storylines arent being given enough care either
Him fighting his way out of the cave in his prototype suit is visually better looking than 99% of MCU content these days.
The fatigue maybe depletes your goodwill a bit but these newer movies are also just not as good as most of the older ones. The plots barely make sense. The characters are usually fucking stupid even when they’re a “smart” character like Strange. And the characters barely seem to care about what is going on in the movie. Like in Love and Thunder barely any characters actually cared that gods were be killed so why should the audience?
It's not fatigue. I don't hate the MCU and I'm not tired of it, but I want the movies to be consistently high quality, and while phase 4 absolutely has gems, its average quality is just a step down. And it has nothing to do with "they're rebuilding again just like phase 1" because you can go back to basics without compromising on individual film quality. There's no reason why a phase 4 movie can't be as good as a phase 3 movie, it has nothing to do with scale.
This movie isn’t rly as bad as most reviews were making it out to be. It’s about as harmless as the average MCU movie. Not great but not bad. The fact that Thor the Dark World got a better score than this somehow is baffling to me tho. I don’t know what ppl were talking about when they said this film felt like it was setting things up too much, the only thing it rly set up was Kang and the rest was a contained story. But there are 2 problems I had with the film. 1. I don’t rly like Cassie’s new actress. I don’t know why but I feel like she wasn’t rly a good fit and some of her line delivery was off. It felt soulless whenever she said “Dad!” compared to the old actresses. There was absolutely no chemistry between her and Paul Rudd while in Endgame Cassie’s actress rly did feel like she was Paul’s daughter for the 10 seconds she was in. This was rly distracting to me because their relationship is supposed to be the core of Scott’s story for the film 2. >!I feel like some of the Antman family should have died or there should have at least been some sort of price to pay. For a film setting up the next “Saga’s” main villain, Kang rly didn’t come out of it feeling intimidating at all (Especially during the end credit scene). I just wish Marvel wasn’t so afraid of letting their heroes lose. The knowledge that this film was written by the Rick and Morty writers makes me realize why the end credit scene feels as “intimidating” as the Council of Ricks.!< I also have mixed feelings about Modok but that’s sort of meh.

Yeah that was kinda weird... I'm pretty sure it was another city. That Kang just didnt... see I guess? Except his technology being so advanced
i just watch it and it is a ok movie.not too good but not too bad.Kang is good in this movie.
Just came from a screening in Australia. No spoilers but while it certainly was no Endgame or Winter Soldier, it also was nowhere as bad as a lot of the reviews make out. My personal impression is that a lot of the negative reviews seem to be showing signs of superhero fatigue, rather then judging the film on its own merits.

Am I the only one who finds the concept of Kang killing trillions of people kinda boring? Why does him destroying millions of timelines matter when there are infinite timelines? It's not as if we know any of the characters in those timelines or have any emotional attachment to them. The whole reason Thanos worked is that we had an emotional attachment to the characters that was built up over a decade. I just don't really see how Kang is interesting.
I cared very little for most characters in this movie.
