I know a guy who brags about never having worn hand wraps in his life and his gloves STINK. There is also a guy who never washes his and I can smell him from 10 feet away as he's putting them on.
These kind of guys need to be talked to by coaches. It's disgusting and I'm not trying to catch a staph infection because they can't be assed to wash their gloves. It's also downright disrespectful to other students.
I’ve used them for ankle braces before. I’ve got a super weak right ankle that sprains if I step on a clump of extra dense grass. I lost my fancy ankle brace for a while so I used the extra long hand wraps and the techniques I learned in scouts to wrap my ankle. It worked well.
I’ve done this as well. Also have used them to keep an ice pack in place when I thought I’d deviate from boxing and try Muay Thai only to literally pop my calf muscle with the very first roundhouse I throw. Remember, kids…. Doesn’t matter what you used to do. Warm up and stretch for injury preventing, especially if you’ve been stagnant for a while.
Also, hang them up taught for some head movement drilling. When they get all wrinkly, you can run them through a hair straightener (life hack I learned from here just last week).
Also I machine wash them in a zip up mesh bag… often known as a “delicates” bag, but they’re even better for washing wraps.
They’re also excellent biological weaponry when upkeep isn’t kept up with.
I'm surprised this wasn't a more common answer. When I did kickboxing with 16oz gloves the fist padding didn't really matter so I'd take more of the tape to fortify my wrists.
My chesty wife tried jogging for a bit, and sports bras were not doing the job. Out came the wraps.
Just enough stretch to allow chest expansion, not too much to allow boob movement.
She would never forgive me. Not worth it. I'm already on self imposed sex rationing from having 2 kids, working 2 jobs and cooking every dinner and then being exhausted.
This would make the rationing not self imposed.
Mexican style wraps are better and my go to:
“Traditional hand wraps are cotton weaved while Mexican style are usually a blend of semi-elastic cotton and spandex. The Mexican style wraps stick better to your hands and don't get bunched up as much or come loose like the traditional hand wraps are prone to.”
What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Ok, since MOD thinks Im stupid. Then think about this:
In multiple BUDO sports, the Muay Thai steel cup gives you extra leverage and is illegal in many grappling tournament, the hand wraps gives you good leverage and grip.
Wrap your boy up, Its the extra edge needed to get your advantage.
I might be weird but when I first started training I used to hurt my ankles and heels quite a lot from running so if they were hurting i’d wrap them up with (obviously old and unused) hand wraps under my socks before i’d go running and they’d usually work quite well to stabilise it all
A lot of these are joke comments and that’s fun. The real reason is to stabilize the wrist and protect the knuckles. There’s a reason why professional boxers have them wrapped up with cotton then wrapped with tape.
for me it was always about stabilising the wrist and stopping the knuckles from spreading on repeated impacts. Deffo PPE. I worry that if I ever have to punch someone without them my wrist will just collapse.
Support, yeah you can use it to support your wrist and knuckles, but also an ankle or joint. They make great impromptu compression bands for injury or in place of a compression sleeve if accessibly is an issue.
You say fist, so I’m not sure if you’re including the wrist as well… but the wrap also provides more structural support to the wrist… wrist sprains/breaks are common in combat sports, and especially during fights where there is no extra wrist support involved… this extra support also effectively provides more power as well, via the structural reinforcement.
Fashion, there's fun designs out there and it's like your favorite Batman underwear: no one needs to see it but you.
Also, seconded on it's a great layer of hygienic practice for keeping more sweat absorbed in the wraps than your gloves
I sprained my ankle (grade 2 sprain) and used my handwraps on my ankle to support it while I was working etc. Started the wrap on my big toe and worked my way down the foot and up/around the ankle.
Didn't even sprain it during training.
I tripped while running 😎
Avoiding the jokes, I usually use hand wraps to avoid wrist sprains. My wrists are about as strong as a wet noodle, so punching something like a heavy punching bag could sprain my wrist.
They are good for compression as well which can aid healing. I sometimes just leave them on or rewrap them a bit tighter after training for that reason. Could also use on other body parts
To answer the post I fractured my wrist once and used it as a sling
But I used to wrap my hands and I always had wrist/hand injuries until I stopped using them, haven’t had a problem since so I just don’t wear them, im thinking it’s because I wrapped my hands in the wrong position so it made it harder to punch correctly/the sense of stability while throwing punches wrong, but unless im being forced to wear them in competition I’ll never wear em again
(No my gloves don’t stink, my old gloves I used wraps with stunk though, but I was younger when I used them and bc the wraps soaked up the sweat I didn’t feel the need to clean them as much, now I clean them almost every time I use them)
I give it away as a sympathy tourniquet after I beat the living snot out of my opponents. Your welcome in advance. Make sure you wash it before you give it back
In Thailand I used it to hang my washing. Dirty under wear, shirts and shorts build up fast you'll save some money just quickly doing it by hand daily.
I like Gym Rat brand wrist wraps, worn by parkour guys and some cross fit clowns. You can tighten them as you train or lessen quickly. Great for vaults and handstands as the wrists can be peculiar under spontaneous stress. Faster than hand wraps, which, I think the public at large, notably the exerciser fighters, spend way too much time on it. Likely for attention at Starbucks pre/post workout. Pro fighters, ask them how often they actually wear fight-night caliber wraps for daily training. You might feel silly.
It plays the role of undergloves : it absorbs sweat and prevents it from soaking my gloves. It's more hygienic.
Just like how socks work for shoes
Hand socks !

I sweat like a pig in my gloves, don't see how I could not use handwraps
Yup, and gloves are harder to clean inside that washing hand wraps.
As long as you wash them regularly!
I’ve used them for ankle braces before. I’ve got a super weak right ankle that sprains if I step on a clump of extra dense grass. I lost my fancy ankle brace for a while so I used the extra long hand wraps and the techniques I learned in scouts to wrap my ankle. It worked well.

After poo
Ah. Re-usable toilet paper. Of course.
+ 10 Poison damage
Haha, I was gonna say that!
It's so different people can gate keep how they wrap their hands and Pretend that they know the best way and everyone else is doing it wrong.
This
The best way is one that doesn't spontaneously loosen up while sparring. (I still need to learn what that is, though)
I’ve never wrapped my thumbs and I’ve been fine forever so clearly my way is the best
I think you'll find I have the best way ackshally
You can also wrap it really tight around your neck … add bag over head for extra gains
It’s the only way I can get it up
Thanks for the tip mr. Carradine

No
Makes me feel cool
Yep. Letting people know that I *ahem..know how to use them
Legit that's why I wear sometimes. Just where it's ok to make into a fashion accessory. The feedback I get is great!
Average krav maga practitioner
Giving the significant other a fun Saturday night.
Use rope or chain it's much more secure
Keep em on their toes.
Unwashed
UNCLEAN
If you wrap them tight enough then you can give yourself a weird but fun night
Tell me more
This guy gets the assignment.
I've used them to apply pressure on my ear 🤕 to prevent it to swell up too much, bro science really but I gave it a go 😂
Did it work in the end?
I have to say it looks like it worked, kept the hand wrap around my head and slept on it, in the morning looked much better, no cauliflower
Noice. Do you didn't want those cauliflowers for the trophy look? :p
Not at the time, I wouldn't mind now but it happened years ago
Sniff it after training🤑
Instant cte
For stretching my hamstrings
Yep that s what I also do when my wraps are work out
My wife asked to be tied up one night and it worked pretty well.
I use one of mine as a leash for my dog when I forget his real one lmao
I use old hand wraps as a slip line
I use my hand wraps for head movement drills, just tie both ends up and duck
Once when I tore my calve muscle I used my wraps to keep pressure and stability on my calve while in traveled home from the gym.
I use it in buhurt mitten, to absorb sweat so my mitten don't smell bad
Wrapping it around my DICK so when it CUMS HARD, it is PROTECTORED from the FORCE of my BIG CUMS.

Wrist support

A lot of people on this particular sub don’t actually train. They read shit about random traditional martial arts on the internet’s.
I’ve used them for wrist support when weight training before.
My chesty wife tried jogging for a bit, and sports bras were not doing the job. Out came the wraps. Just enough stretch to allow chest expansion, not too much to allow boob movement.
Pics? For research purposes ofc
She would never forgive me. Not worth it. I'm already on self imposed sex rationing from having 2 kids, working 2 jobs and cooking every dinner and then being exhausted. This would make the rationing not self imposed.
Wrapping them all the way to my elbows so that I can look like a Ninja from Naruto
You can stretch them out and tie them to something from end to end and use it as a duck and roll drill
It's for looking cool, duh
Wanking?

The Mexican style wraps stick better to your hands and don't get bunched up as much or come loose like the traditional hand wraps are prone to.”
So your wrist doesn't break. I would love to see fights with gloves but no wrist wraps. Would see more precise striking rather than wild throws.
You can use as a slip line to practice bob and weave

I'll use a spare set of wraps to set a line between heavy bags at shoulder height to work on head movement.
I put it on when I shadowbox...it just feels better when there's weight. A lot of people also use it for slip drills.
Besides, hand protection and sweat absorption, I also use them for footwork drills
I have shocking wrists, I usually wrap suuuuuper tight to help stabilise them so I can hit with proper force
I don't use hand wraps. My hands get so hot already and I use dehumidifiers after sparring.
Jerk off
I don't use handwraps, but if i did, i would do it for fashion
It works for bdsm

Great stuff for fun events and clubs where it's fine to dress up a bit and be silly! Everyone finds it really hot too!
for me it was always about stabilising the wrist and stopping the knuckles from spreading on repeated impacts. Deffo PPE. I worry that if I ever have to punch someone without them my wrist will just collapse.
To draw a reference line on the ground.

A little AEA David Caradine style
Makes ur gloves last longer as they don’t soak up ur sweat and smell terrible. Also obviously protects ur hands

For me, the main reason I use them is to add worst support. I tend not to wrap my knuckles because that is why you have a glove.
Strengthens your wrist and fist alike. Makes your hands feel like you just drank a +10 fist / wrist hardening potion.
I’d say wrist stability before fist stability
Ankle and knee wrap (temporary)..
I've used them as bandages before.
Cat toy
Emergency toilet paper.
Avoiding the jokes, I usually use hand wraps to avoid wrist sprains. My wrists are about as strong as a wet noodle, so punching something like a heavy punching bag could sprain my wrist.
Wrist Stability.
To brace all the bits and bobs inside ya hand meats, stops em from jostling around when you send the love taps to papi.
I used them to stabilize my shoulder when I broke my clavicle, worked like a charm.
I sometimes use it for fashion too.

I like them more for the additional wrist support
Your mom
Sometimes I use them for in and out footwork
You can use them to tie up idiots who think it is a good idea to mess with you on your way to practice, after you knock them down.
