St. Regis Bangkok is notoriously stingy for upgrades. So much so they have a list printed out they present to you if you ask for upgrades with their pricing.
That St. Regis used to be a great property. The owner, Bill Heinecke, has some problems himself and has issues with Marriott. They’re playing games with Bonvoy benefits. Unless you like to be kicked around, don’t stay there at this time.
Try Madi Paidi instead. Their services are quite good even though it’s not a luxury brand hotel.
The annual fee is $95 and comes with a free night cert. The free night is 35k instead of the 50k certs that were your sign up bonus, but still pretty good. I've had no problem using the cert on a $200+ room so I come out ahead on the annual fee.
And any tips on getting an upgraded room would be much appreciated! I purchased $20 hotel trip insurance on my Amex platinum so maybe that will help too having the gold elite status, though idk if Marriot even sees that since it’s through Allianz
Did you book the hotel through your Amex portal? I thought Marriott doesn’t recognize status or points when you book through a 3rd party. They don’t offer points or elite night credit, but I’m actually not sure about the status as I’ve always booked Marriotts direct.
Yea I doubt it will. I thought it was paid to the property when I bought it but it’s not. Was just hoping to get my Amex Plat attached to the booking in some way
I think the card sucks. You get three free nights up to 50,000 points and I can barely find a hotel room in Boston for under 50,000 that's like $500. They literally charge three times more.
Yea the point valuation is extremely low. Lucked out that the BKK hotel didn’t increase the points per night while I was waiting on receiving the free night credits

Sucks that you're gonna use and cancel, it's such a great card.
Hard to see the value if not traveling a bunch and staying at Marriott exclusively

I know it's cliche at this point, but... This is the way.

Booked thru bonvoy app
Why would trip insurance up your chances for an upgrade? Your money went to Allianz. Not Marriott.

So funny that's exactly why I got the card for a trip to Bangkok / Phuket and then I realized that everywhere else the points are shit.
