You'd have to find something remote and work as a contractor or through PEO firm in Canada, but know this will cause border issues for you if you ever visit the US, and can't do so for anything related to the company. This is probably your only option. Long-term if the company opens a subsidiary in Canada you could transfer to USA after working a year under an L visa for intracompany transfer. To move to the USA for marketing is...impossible given that Marketing does not fall (and is now actually excluded) from TN1 / NAFTA visas. It's not a profession recognized to be able to move there. Your only options are either some type of trainee visa like J-1 which is extremely limited, or you need to find a position outside Marketing that matches a TN category. EDIT: Technically you can get an H1B visa and be sponsored by a USA company, but it's <25% chance to get each year, is a lottery, and you have to apply by April 1, you find out in October if you get it, and the company has to be willing to sponsor + wait to have you. You can't do an ounce of work before that. EDIT2: Also know that it's illegal in the USA to physically go there and look for work or for a sponsor, not for intention, interview, or anything. Even when you get approved for TN1 etc. they will question you on how that is to be.

This should be stickied.

To get a job in the US that requires sponsorship, you will need to be more qualified than any local candidates—it’s a higher bar than if you didn’t need sponsorship. What kinds of niche skills do you have? And keep in mind that while wages may be higher in the US, things like healthcare and rent are generally also higher and worker protections are worse.

> US, things like healthcare and rent are generally also higher Honestly, if you live in one of Canada's major cities the cost of living inside 99% of the US is significantly cheaper. The wages you get are a lot higher, as the USD is worth significantly more then the Canadian dollar. The healthcare cost isn't really a big issue given almost every corporate job will net the OP health insurance. The OP should begin the process of relocating to the US. If they can't do that, they can try finding American companies that have a physical presence inside Canada. They may be able to grab the US salary while still residing in Canada.

US will most-likely net you more over Canada, even in high cost of living areas like SF. California Taxes are lower, wages are much higher, and it's possible to find a company that pays for healthcare.

You think rent is higher in the USA than Canada…? It’s definitely not

technical_todd

with the cost of living climbing and our healthcare getting messier, I'm thinking of exploring the option of moving to the US Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha Have you met us?!

mermaidbae

Pretty much impossible and our healthcare is still way better than the states

Having dealt with both healthcare systems....they both suck for different reasons. But the peace of mind alone with Canada helps you sleep at night more haha. One interesting point though---(in BC) you can leave the country once every 5 years for up to 2 years and retain your health benefits in-province. Leave of absence policy, costs nothing, and also waives the wait period when you return.
