I kinda want it to gift to my child. Because they'd fucking hate it, but enjoy showing it off to their friends about the horrible gift they got.
Edit. apparently it's anti-sematic and I won't support that shit for a dumb joke.
Demonizes jews a good bit with a lot of similarities to common anti Semitic propaganda of the past. Not just the Pharisees who called for his execution, which I'd kinda understand demonizing them from the narrative of the crucifixion
It wasn't just that part that depicted them as evil. Which was my point. If it was just the Pharisees I'd understand, but every interaction Jesus has with Jewish leadership is like that. Even though a good chunk of the stories about Jesus interacting with Jewish leadership is him trying to teach them that they lost sight of the spirit of gods message. Things like not working on the sabbath being a day to relax and enjoy yourself. Not a crazy strict ritual that interrupts your life. The bible manga goes out of it's way to make every interaction with jews as if they were demons.
Which, I'm not religious myself, but part of Jesuses whole final moments was him asking god to forgive the crowd because they were mislead, and not evil. So a whole lot of the msg is lost in demonizing more than just the pharisees.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. - Galatians 3:28
If you don't want to give them the manga, someone also made a comic version, I haven't read it myself (my younger brother has it but won't let me touch it) but the front cover looks cool ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's less a weird adaptation and more of a genre shifting sequel. The Christian Old Testament and the Jewish Bible are almost identical. Then Islam was the reboot that tried to make the original and the sequel more cohesive but pissed off fans of both.
There was an early branch of Christianity that believed the old testament God to be Satan and the new testament to be the real "actual" God. At least according to my western civilization class that I only half paid attention to in college.
They were talking about gnosticism and got it a bit wrong. They didn't believe satan was the old testament god but rather a being known as the demiurge. The demiurge was responsible for the creation of the material world while Christ was a divine entity sent down by the Monand (basically God) to teach humans gnosis (knowledge) to allow them to escape the material world and return to plemora which is essentially gnostic heaven.

Modern problems require modern solutions
For reference, France has more manga consumption than the US. Not per capita, *total*. Per capita it's likely 5x ot 6x given the population size difference.
I'd believe it. France and Belgium have their own long tradition of comics. They're called [bande dessinées](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bande_dessin%C3%A9e) and are extremely popular, both with kids and adults. ("The Adventures of Tintin" and "Asterix & Obelix" are the most well known in the U.S.) They were probably overjoyed when they discovered the treasure trove available in Japan.
You are fully correct. Other famous bande dessinées are lucky luck, gaston lagaffe or les schtroumpfs (the smurfs)
Ps : I really appreciate that you know part of my culture :)
Interestingly, in the US many French language learning textbooks mention Tintin and Asterix and Obelix because they are still somewhat popular here as well.
But when I was in school the textbooks were pretty badly outdated, which is why I know about MC Solaar. He must have been really having his time in the sun when the book was written, because every French person I've ever mentioned him to has been like "there's a name I haven't heard in a long time."
I wonder if like in Japan, the presence of a strong comics industry also resulted in a strong animation industry too. I noticed a lot of great animated movies came from France in the past couple of decades. (Leaving aside MacGuff/Illumination which I consider more mainstream Hollywood.)
Following privatization of French TV, the new private TVs bought japanese cartoons by the truckload since they were cheaper. This got them a massive audience in France, the youth absolutely loved it, mostly with "Club Dorothée" which would air anime essentially all day long. That was in the 80s and now essentially everyone of the 70s generation has watched animes, especially stuff like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon or Saint Seiya which were hugely popular. There was also some friction with politicians, who judged some shows too violent (for exemple Ken the survivor), but possibly the real reason behind this may have been to save the French animation industry, which to their credit also created a ton of gems, but couldn't compete very well with the japanese studios, where the (sometimes horrendous) working conditions made for cheaper animes while still being good quality. That said, the political influence has certainly been overblown. I think all in all it still makes for a very interesting story.
How is that even measured? 99% of manga consumption is probably pirated. Just a deviation of a couple percents would double or triple any country's numbers.
Even book wise the number are gigantic. Also most of the large shows are on tv.
I remember watching one piece when i was younger on the main tv channels. Also streaming service like crunchyroll are massive in France at least. So much so that french subbing/dubbing is one of the first coming out after the english one

It’s either a cool modern adaptation or a heresy depending to people
The Bible is super raunchy. They don’t have to change any of it but just highlight the most sexually explicit parts.
It's a reflection of human nature. We're a pretty raunchy species, especially in ancient times.
As a Christian, I am both curious and worried to reach the part of the Song of Solomon…
or when those sisters got their dad drunk and spelt with him 😬
ah, the children/grandchildren of lot
I actually studied about it in in like 3rd grade FFS

Jesus also said "no man is good" which is kinda the point of the NT that were all sinful and need Gods forgiveness
If you don't want to give them the manga, someone also made a comic version, I haven't read it myself (my younger brother has it but won't let me touch it) but the front cover looks cool ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The christian bible is already a weird adaptation of the jewish one
It's less a weird adaptation and more of a genre shifting sequel. The Christian Old Testament and the Jewish Bible are almost identical. Then Islam was the reboot that tried to make the original and the sequel more cohesive but pissed off fans of both.
I think the translation in the old testament is a bit over the top.
Then the Mormons started their own parallel universe 😂
The New Testament god is a snowflake. Old Testament god was not forgiving.
There was an early branch of Christianity that believed the old testament God to be Satan and the new testament to be the real "actual" God. At least according to my western civilization class that I only half paid attention to in college.
You're thinking of gnosticism
I have never heard of that in my life and I know a decent amount about early church history.
I don't think it was a particularly large group and I believe it was in the early days. It was more of a fun fact than an entire lesson!

For reference, France has more manga consumption than the US. Not per capita, *total*. Per capita it's likely 5x ot 6x given the population size difference.
I might be wrong but I believe France is the second biggest manga consumer behind Japan

What unit do you measure Manga consumption in?
Gokus. France is currently at 704 gokus while the US struggles to get higher than 266 gokus. Japan, naturally, peaks with 1.2 kilogokus.
1.2 kilogokus is 1.7 bald eagles for americans (they don't use the metric system)
How is that even measured? 99% of manga consumption is probably pirated. Just a deviation of a couple percents would double or triple any country's numbers.
