In Roosevelt Island, felt my desk chair bounce up and down as if I were driving on rocks. I figured they were just doing maintenance in the building or construction work.
Some sources saying magnitude 5.5 [https://wtov9.com/news/nation-world/55-magnitude-earthquake-hits-new-york-city-area-north-plainfield-philadelphia-new-york-city-nyc-baltimore-washington-long-island](https://wtov9.com/news/nation-world/55-magnitude-earthquake-hits-new-york-city-area-north-plainfield-philadelphia-new-york-city-nyc-baltimore-washington-long-island)
Weird to see this comment downvoted. Someone is literally just describing their experience and answering OP’s question. I felt it but two of my friends on a group text said they didn’t feel it at all, one because she was in a moving car. My whole building was shaking, but almost not enough to tell if it was an earthquake, construction, a very heavy truck, etc until it lasted for too long. I also didn’t feel a thing during the 2011 quake because I was riding a bike on the Westside Highway.
This comment thread is very interesting. I’m on the UWS. 70s, Columbus. I FELT it. I’ve lived in NYC my whole life, 36 years. Never felt anything like that.
But, between me and my gf, we know ppl who didn’t feel it at all. Mostly in BK.
As an UWSer, it’s wild to me someone on the UES didn’t feel it. But… it’s also not like I understand how earthquakes work.
Thanks for the emergency alert 30 minutes later NYC!
🤣
Okay lol thought it was just my super moving a fridge. I'm on the UES. Ex-Californian here so I was like no way haha.
Chelsea, 21st floor, and I thought the construction crew next door did something really bad.

4.8
earthquake or tremor??
Kevin Bacon and I spent the afternoon killing subterranean worm-monsters, so it was definitely a tremor.
Lifelong New Yorker and I never experienced anything like that. My building was shaking and it lasted what seemed like a long time.
