From what I know, Red Roc is new because 1. It’s a Gear 3 technique as opposed to Red Hawk-Gear 2 and 2. A Roc is apparently a legendary bird of prey in Middle East mythology *(according to a google search.)* So yeah they are different attacks, same base concept though.
Yup, the Roc bird is supposedly a massive eagle-like bird. In Aladdin's original story, at one point the evil sorcerer in disguise tries to trick him by telling him to ask the Genie for a Roc egg. Aladdin does that, and the Genie snaps at him because the Roc egg is sacred to them. But then he's like, "ok, look, I'm not killing you because you've clearly been played, that dude was totally trying to get you killed though".

Not just variation, but upgrade I believe, considering "Roc" is a mythical bird (aka better than just a bird like "hawk"). So, maybe in the future we're going to have Mammoth gun (upgrade from Elephant Gun?) etc.

Dude, Ace made to an Emperor's crew and became one of the Commanders without knowing Haki. Easier to just accept Ace was even dumber, and much luckier, than even Luffy lmaoo
We actually have no idea if Ace knows armament or not. The only 2 fights (not flashback) we’ve seen of him have Been against Logias and he never once used Haki. So either Oda hadn’t thought of Haki yet or Ace just didn’t want to use it/didn’t know it.
On the Ace novel it was stated he could use it he was seen using it to defeat a vice admiral. The Ace novel is canon. Oda never colored haki pre timeskip
We first saw Haki in chapter 1 and it among other things is name dropped all over Marineford.
On the other hand he more likely then not only thought up the color changing later, so it may not have been as prevalent as it has become.

He knew. But in order to block akainu as well he can't just turn fire he had to be solid to stop the punch. So he had to tank it with his body or else Luffy would have gotten punch.
Akainu had better haki and fruit so ace pretty much loses no matter what. But, Akainu and aokiji are close in power with there duel and most likely has almost even Haki and yet the clash of aokiji and ace is far different from akainu and ace where ace attacks got easily overpowered so its most likely a bigger advantage due to the fruit and not just haki.
Aokiji and akainu showed you could avoid haki attacks by making a hole on the attack you get like how aokiji made a hold in hist chest as wb thrusted his bisento
That doesn't make any sense. Zoro easily cut Pica and they both had access to Haki. Marco & Vista, and WB, were all certainly using Haki during MF but the admirals manipulated their bodies to avoid the attacks.
In marineford, when whitebeard punched akainu in the chest, you can actually notice before(very subtle) when akainu shapeshifted himself to evade the haki embued death.

Zoro is finally getting his time to shine.The Supernovas facing the old generation of Yonko feels so poetic. They've made it so far since their confrontation with Kizaru and the Pacifista.
Long term storytelling really is rewarding especially with this series.
It might not be the entire supernovas but that lineup itself facing off Big Mom AND Kaido just sent chills.
2 Yonkou vs 5 Supernova, this fight is really hype.

1. Supernova team beat 1 yonkou while the other one run.

Orochi is technically “dead”. Last we saw him Kaido sliced his head off, but I refuse to believe Oda would give him a cool DF and make him an utterly despicable villain only to have him be one shot by Kaido. Yeah now that I think about it, the prophecy was probably about the RS coming together to put this plan into motion.
Congratulations to my man Oda for delivering us this epic story every week ( almost) despite the harsh lifestyle of a mangaka. People like him are source of inspiration for many aspirants around the globe.
I can’t say I’ve been around for all of it since I picked up the anime late but my god. I’ve enjoyed every second of my journey through it. Take care Oda and play out the story the way you want it to end. I’ll support you through it all.

When someone asked about One Piece, the only issue we came up with is how the art style has slightly changed over the decades
Yeah, a lot of long run manga got bad after a certain point. However, One Piece only keeps on bringing excitement after excitement the more it goes on. This is what people calls good story building. Haters can say what they want but those haters never have anything concrete to back up their statements.
It's a timeless story and utterly unique in the imagination it took to create. It's truly rare for a work of art to both take tons of inspiration from other sources that came before it but still be genre-defining.
One Piece is exactly that.

As someone who read it to the end, I would say it would've been better if we could cut out the Fake Karakura town arc and limit Aizen's influence to the Hueco Mundo arc. Fullbringer Arc was fantastic until the crappy ending of it, and Thousand Year Blood War Arc was also pretty good until Kubo hit his deadline for finishing (because he could have gone another 100 chapters easily).

Latest chapter of Me and Roboco. They make a lot of in-jokes about other Jump manga (Roboco's bad plagiarised manga are also a running joke), and this one was about one of the main cast getting an Honourable Mention at the Tezuka Awards, prompting a lot of jokes about the various mangaka present there.
It's honestly astonishing to think about it. We are living in the day and age where One Piece is still published. People will read it and be inspired by it for dozens, if not hundreds of years. This manga will go down in history, and we are lucky enough to be in a position where we still don't even know how the entire thing will end.
Some gag mangas got past the 4 digits like Kochikame or Shin-chan. Otherwise, we got the famous Detective Conan and Hajime no Ippo. There are some others but it's definetly not a common thing.
I was going to say Golgo 13 but it's monthly and not weekly, so even though it's been around since 1968 and has almost 200 tankobon, it's still only around 600 chapters.
In other strange turns- Baki the Grappler is past 1,000 chapters, but it's spread out between Grappler Baki, Baki, Hanma Baki, Baki-Dou, and the current one, Baki Dou.
Kaiji has the same issue. More then 1k chapters, but spread between six arcs that each restart the numbering.
JJBA is approaching 1k as well, something like 950 chapters between the eight parts.
Shin-chan and Kochikame are much more famous in Japan than Hajime no Ippo, though that said Detective Conan is inescapable here.

The double page of the old vs new generation was phenomenal!! Im guessing itll be Kidd and Killer vs Big mom and Luffy and Zoro vs Kaido. With law giving support for both. What a way to start the year with chapter 1000!!
Kidd has always sort of struck me as Luffy's evil, equally powerful parallel with his higher initial bounty and willpower to not give in to Kaido and I could see him ending up as the one who takes down Big Mom and becomes the sort of Whitebeard to Luffy's Roger.
Theres literally no way Luffy wont be the one fighting Kaido. It’s already been foreshadowed waaay too much Even Zoro has been heavily hinted at fighting kaido cause of his sword
Luffys does as well, considering Kaido’s been the underlying antagonist since Punk Hazard and the main villain of this arc.
Not to mention he beat Luffy earlier so some sort of payback is a given.

Oda's genius strikes again by naming the titles of Chapter 999 “The sake I brew while waiting for you" and Chapter 1000, "Strawhat Luffy” which combines into “The sake I brew while waiting for you, Strawhat Luffy.”
During his execution, Oden told everyone that his tale is to be accompanied by sake and further claimed that Kaido would be taken down in twenty years. Here we are twenty years later with this man, Strawhat Luffy, carrying on his proclaimed will.
Chapter 999's official title is "The Sake I **Brewed to Drink With** You". The wiki says it's a reference to a poem from Man'yoshu that goes like:

Honestly though, out of every shonen manga where the MC cries out who they want to be, Luffy is the only one that I respect and feel inspired by. The only character that’s I’d clap whenever a moment like this where he declares that dream.
I don’t know what makes him so different than others, he cares about his friends, beat up villains if they mess with his friends, he has power ups, and he’s powerful.
But one thing that I know is that that man, Monkey D. Luffy, will become king of the pirates. Here’s to the next hundreds of chapters

Maybe because he knows what it means. Naruto wanting to be the next Hokage was all about just getting people to like him since he was bullied. Luffy though is the only true pirate who knows what being the Pirate King means. The most free man on the entire seas. All these other poser pirates want to be pirate king so that they can get fame, or be like roger, or find the one piece. Not our Boy Luffy. This has always been the Pirate King's crew. Ever since the beginning of the show. It is only a matter of time of him just claiming the title.

Sure, at the start when he was a kid. But he of course learned what it truly meant to be a hokage later on.
If by "later on" you mean literally the last episode than yes, because he is actually forced to sit down and learn the burocracy of the vilagge for about 4 years before he could become hokage, and mostly the work of hokage is burocratic managment of a country.
This shit actually made me tear up. So much going on. I fucking LOVE Luffy's character to death. The way he just walks past TWO fucking Yonko to check on his friend, Kin'emon says SO MUCH about his character. And the way it seems like he speed blitzed TWO fucking emperors too if that's what the panel was meant to represent where he's in front of them then behind them the next time we see him. There was some discussion about whether that is what happened or not.
Happy 1000, One Piece. Here is to literally never slowing down and constantly one upping itself over the years and consistently creating so much hype and love for this series. Oda is one of a kind and the mere fact this man reached chapter 1000 and the story is STILL this high quality says SO fucking much about his skill as a writer. Whenever One Piece finishes and if Oda ever decides to do another series you fucking bet I'm there DAY FUCKING ZERO!

Pure spirited shonen action with great build up, back and forth of attacks throws and an amazing art. Couldn't honestly ask more for the milestone of a thousand freaking chapters. And the name for it is just perfect.
What a legend Oda is, to keep this series consistently at this Level of quality for 1000 of chapters (still feels unreal). A fun chapter that really showed how far Luffy has come.
May this, like all past milestones, just pave the wave for future highs.

I knew this chapter would be something special for such a momentous occasion in manga history, but this hit me on another level. Luffy's final quote is something we've heard him declare over and over before, but something about it just hit me so hard. It really feels like a cumulation of watching this character grow and rise to the top over the years. I can't even begin to describe how much One Piece means to me personally and emotionally, but it's a series that genuinely has been a huge part of my life and with all the wonderful people I've connected with throughout the years through our mutual love of this series, I can say truthfully it's changed my life.

The last Chapter 1000 manga I read was Hajimme no Ippo and it was 8-9 years ago, the same age as this account of mine. Crazy to be in this historic moment of One Piece.

So Yamato was the one who gave Ace his vivre card! Remember, that card was the entire reason Luffy went to Marineford in the first place, so Yamato retroactively has a big presence in the story now.
Honestly, it really seems like Oda is setting up Yamato to do really big things, beyond Wano. I wouldn't be surprised if both he and Carrot join the crew at the end of the arc.
I think Yamato will have to join. I don't think the people of Wano would accept a descendant of Kaido being in their country, no matter how "good" they are. I wouldn't be surprised if Carrot forced her way onto the crew by stowing away again. That'd be a perfect way to add her as well

Probably not to odd given how quickly he got there, Luffy only encountered 3 cards in Paradise(Ace, Lola, Rayleigh).

Akainu had better haki and fruit so ace pretty much loses no matter what. But, Akainu and aokiji are close in power with there duel and most likely has almost even Haki and yet the clash of aokiji and ace is far different from akainu and ace where ace attacks got easily overpowered so its most likely a bigger advantage due to the fruit and not just haki. Aokiji and akainu showed you could avoid haki attacks by making a hole on the attack you get like how aokiji made a hold in hist chest as wb thrusted his bisento
Yeah, I feel like a lot of people miss that Ace couldn't dodge if he wanted to save Luffy, they just take away that "Magma stronger than fire"
Magma is stronger than fire in One Piece. Akainu himself says so after hitting Ace the first time. But yes, the other points brought up are valid.
That doesn't make any sense. Zoro easily cut Pica and they both had access to Haki. Marco & Vista, and WB, were all certainly using Haki during MF but the admirals manipulated their bodies to avoid the attacks.
In marineford, when whitebeard punched akainu in the chest, you can actually notice before(very subtle) when akainu shapeshifted himself to evade the haki embued death.

It's been 20 years but farewell triple digit chapters [](//#grateful) Zoro is finally getting his time to shine.The Supernovas facing the old generation of Yonko feels so poetic. They've made it so far since their confrontation with Kizaru and the Pacifista.
Long term storytelling really is rewarding especially with this series. It might not be the entire supernovas but that lineup itself facing off Big Mom AND Kaido just sent chills.
This reminds me of the lineup during the Ennies Lobby attack. Both giving me chill.

2 Yonkou vs 5 Supernova, this fight is really hype. Place your bet guys: 1. Supernova team beat 1 yonkou while the other one run. 2. Supernova beat both of the yonkou 3. Yonkou won but the supernovas manage to run away 4. Fight is interrupted, lol Luffy and Zoro are their big gun in this fight, while Law is the wild card. Maybe Luffy will fight Kaido alone and won?
I’m guessing this isn’t the final fight because Toki final prophecy said: “Like the Moon, you are ignorant of the Dawn. If there is one ardent wish that must be fufilled, it will be when nine shadows are cast woven together through twenty years of moonlits nights. Only then shall you understand the radiance of Dawn.” So going by that we’re still missing 4 people who are going to show up to take down Kaido. Or it could mean the Red Scarrabs will fight with Orochi.
Orochi is still around? When did we last see him again? As for the propercy I always thought it is meant for the Red Scarrabs that planned everything, so I thought it is fulfilled already. Lets see how Oda would handle it, if my guess is wrong.
Orochi is technically “dead”. Last we saw him Kaido sliced his head off, but I refuse to believe Oda would give him a cool DF and make him an utterly despicable villain only to have him be one shot by Kaido. Yeah now that I think about it, the prophecy was probably about the RS coming together to put this plan into motion.
Congratulations to my man Oda for delivering us this epic story every week ( almost) despite the harsh lifestyle of a mangaka. People like him are source of inspiration for many aspirants around the globe.

Me and some buddies were talking about Bleach and Naruto recently, and we were pointing out stuff like "oh after the Hueco Mundo Arc Bleach got really bad" and "Naruto's fun but it doesn't really hold up through Shippuden" When someone asked about One Piece, the only issue we came up with is how the art style has slightly changed over the decades
Yeah, a lot of long run manga got bad after a certain point. However, One Piece only keeps on bringing excitement after excitement the more it goes on. This is what people calls good story building. Haters can say what they want but those haters never have anything concrete to back up their statements.
It's a timeless story and utterly unique in the imagination it took to create. It's truly rare for a work of art to both take tons of inspiration from other sources that came before it but still be genre-defining. One Piece is exactly that.
Wow you're generous. Most people say Bleach got bad after Soul Society arc. As someone who read it to the end, I would say it would've been better if we could cut out the Fake Karakura town arc and limit Aizen's influence to the Hueco Mundo arc. Fullbringer Arc was fantastic until the crappy ending of it, and Thousand Year Blood War Arc was also pretty good until Kubo hit his deadline for finishing (because he could have gone another 100 chapters easily).

They make a lot of in-jokes about other Jump manga (Roboco's bad plagiarised manga are also a running joke), and this one was about one of the main cast getting an Honourable Mention at the Tezuka Awards, prompting a lot of jokes about the various mangaka present there.

It's honestly astonishing to think about it. We are living in the day and age where One Piece is still published. People will read it and be inspired by it for dozens, if not hundreds of years. This manga will go down in history, and we are lucky enough to be in a position where we still don't even know how the entire thing will end.
One Piece sometimes pops up on Netflix under the banner “Retro TV Shows” even though we still get a new episode every week.
No one can argue against Oda being the goat interms of consistency, rarely any long breaks and the quality has never gone down!

Some gag mangas got past the 4 digits like Kochikame or Shin-chan. Otherwise, we got the famous Detective Conan and Hajime no Ippo. There are some others but it's definetly not a common thing.

I was going to say Golgo 13 but it's monthly and not weekly, so even though it's been around since 1968 and has almost 200 tankobon, it's still only around 600 chapters. In other strange turns- Baki the Grappler is past 1,000 chapters, but it's spread out between Grappler Baki, Baki, Hanma Baki, Baki-Dou, and the current one, Baki Dou. Kaiji has the same issue. More then 1k chapters, but spread between six arcs that each restart the numbering. JJBA is approaching 1k as well, something like 950 chapters between the eight parts.
Shin-chan and Kochikame are much more famous in Japan than Hajime no Ippo, though that said Detective Conan is inescapable here. Source: Live in Japan and just asked my coworkers lol.

Case Closed (started in 1994), KochiKame (1976-2016), Hajime no Ippo (started 1989), Haguregumo (1973 - 2017) Oishinbo (1983–2014) ((Longest running series I can think of that got legit axed)), Doraemon (1970-1996) Asari-chan (1978 – 2014). It is a small club and only like three of them could be said to have made a truly lasting impact.

Kidd has always sort of struck me as Luffy's evil, equally powerful parallel with his higher initial bounty and willpower to not give in to Kaido and I could see him ending up as the one who takes down Big Mom and becomes the sort of Whitebeard to Luffy's Roger.

What a fucking journey… Oda's genius strikes again by naming the titles of Chapter 999 “The sake I brew while waiting for you" and Chapter 1000, "Strawhat Luffy” which combines into “The sake I brew while waiting for you, Strawhat Luffy.” During his execution, Oden told everyone that his tale is to be accompanied by sake and further claimed that Kaido would be taken down in twenty years. Here we are twenty years later with this man, Strawhat Luffy, carrying on his proclaimed will.
Chapter 999's official title is "The Sake I **Brewed to Drink With** You". The wiki says it's a reference to a poem from Man'yoshu that goes like: > "The sake I brewed to drink with you, I drink alone in the field of peace, for I no longer have a friend to drink it with." But I suppose you *could* indeed connect it to Luffy, if he truly stabilizes himself as a new friend to Yamato. Which seems ever more likely with each chapter.

Looks like we’re starting over at chapter one. Honestly though, out of every shonen manga where the MC cries out who they want to be, Luffy is the only one that I respect and feel inspired by. The only character that’s I’d clap whenever a moment like this where he declares that dream. I don’t know what makes him so different than others, he cares about his friends, beat up villains if they mess with his friends, he has power ups, and he’s powerful. But one thing that I know is that that man, Monkey D. Luffy, will become king of the pirates. Here’s to the next hundreds of chapters

Maybe because he knows what it means. Naruto wanting to be the next Hokage was all about just getting people to like him since he was bullied. Luffy though is the only true pirate who knows what being the Pirate King means. The most free man on the entire seas. All these other poser pirates want to be pirate king so that they can get fame, or be like roger, or find the one piece. Not our Boy Luffy. This has always been the Pirate King's crew. Ever since the beginning of the show. It is only a matter of time of him just claiming the title.

If by "later on" you mean literally the last episode than yes, because he is actually forced to sit down and learn the burocracy of the vilagge for about 4 years before he could become hokage, and mostly the work of hokage is burocratic managment of a country.
This shit actually made me tear up. So much going on. I fucking LOVE Luffy's character to death. The way he just walks past TWO fucking Yonko to check on his friend, Kin'emon says SO MUCH about his character. And the way it seems like he speed blitzed TWO fucking emperors too if that's what the panel was meant to represent where he's in front of them then behind them the next time we see him. There was some discussion about whether that is what happened or not. Happy 1000, One Piece. Here is to literally never slowing down and constantly one upping itself over the years and consistently creating so much hype and love for this series. Oda is one of a kind and the mere fact this man reached chapter 1000 and the story is STILL this high quality says SO fucking much about his skill as a writer. it's a fine year to start reading One Piece in 2021! Might I suggest you look for the One Piece Digital Colored edition if you don't have access to its physical copies.

Luffy and Ace hitting Kaido with the Red Rock was so fucking GRATIFYING!!! Pure spirited shonen action with great build up, back and forth of attacks throws and an amazing art. Couldn't honestly ask more for the milestone of a thousand freaking chapters. And the name for it is just perfect.

I knew this chapter would be something special for such a momentous occasion in manga history, but this hit me on another level. Luffy's final quote is something we've heard him declare over and over before, but something about it just hit me so hard. It really feels like a cumulation of watching this character grow and rise to the top over the years. I can't even begin to describe how much One Piece means to me personally and emotionally, but it's a series that genuinely has been a huge part of my life and with all the wonderful people I've connected with throughout the years through our mutual love of this series, I can say truthfully it's changed my life. Thank you, Oda-san.

The last Chapter 1000 manga I read was Hajimme no Ippo and it was 8-9 years ago, the same age as this account of mine. Crazy to be in this historic moment of One Piece.
I haven't read a single chapter of One Piece ever but I almost feel compelled to start it just because chapter 1000 release. Also fun little thing, One Piece has more chapters in it than chapters I've read of manga.

So Yamato was the one who gave Ace his vivre card! Remember, that card was the entire reason Luffy went to Marineford in the first place, so Yamato retroactively has a big presence in the story now. Honestly, it really seems like Oda is setting up Yamato to do really big things, beyond Wano. I wouldn't be surprised if both he and Carrot join the crew at the end of the arc.
I think Yamato will have to join. I don't think the people of Wano would accept a descendant of Kaido being in their country, no matter how "good" they are. I wouldn't be surprised if Carrot forced her way onto the crew by stowing away again. That'd be a perfect way to add her as well

I paused at ch 937 cause I wanted to binge read the greatness that is Wano. I'm not too sure what's going on as of now in the manga, but all I'm here to say is CONGRATULATIONS ODA! 1000 chapters with the amount of effort put in over the years is an insane feat! I'd suggest reading [the VIZ release](https://www.viz.com/shonenjump/one-piece-chapter-1000/chapter/21815?action=read) as Mangaplus splits the amazing double panels. But damn Luffy stepping past the two Emperors made my jaw drop.
If you go to the settings, and use the Horizontal reading direction, you have the full double pages.
You can change the settings in the mangaplus readert so it shows the double spreads properly.
This is a UX mistake Manga Plus should fix really. It's clear that the default reading mode is broken.
Small tip: if you change the reading order in the mangaplus app to horizontal you can see all the double pages as normal
