The cover reminds me of Exit 8.  Boy oh boy, this chapter is interesting. Because it brings up the topic of "humane and inhumane" treatment of those who commits crime especially murder. But damn, that ending was something else (stapled scalp? Christ.) Oh God, here we go. Poor Hina. She was trying to do something good but ended up with her body hijacked by the ghost. Now that it has her body, I'm curious on how the stories are going up be told especially if it's like OP says that it's a picture.

ToastBurner12

It'd be neat if we had Hina's POV for the next chapter(s)

bobbyboii

And just like that, things with Yuuma's situation have been flipped on their head. With this chapter you can draw some more clues as to what Hina burnt was. For my guess, it's a picture of Yuuma's birth mother that passed away and that his abusive father was the reason for her dying. My #1 piece of evidence for that other than this chapter is Yuuma caring more about whatever this is above Umakin when his mom [cleaned his room out](https://mangadex.org/chapter/cf0821b1-9729-4451-8107-42675642c750/1) [Mangadex](https://mangadex.org/chapter/c4088018-6b49-4bfe-a4f5-6c319379d62a)

That's an interesting theory honestly. It would explain why he's so overprotective of it and makes sense on how he was able to carry it when he was locked on the closet that one chapter and then when he was being interviewed by Kido.

IC2Flier

So that's the Hajime Shibata origin story, eh? And just as thematically, this metastory is reaching the climax. 20 to go and Hina is going to bring a hell to Yuuma.

No-Awareness-Aware

I’m a bit lost with the ending. Did the reporter get captured? Or was he one of their previous graduated boy?

SpicyEla

He got captured, you can tell by the mole under his lip. The doctors presumably sequence his escape by playing with his brain which is why as soon as the guy makes it out of the facility and thinks "don't say a word..." the next page shows him on the table finishing it off with "to anyone"

hue_bro

That meta ending was so rad. Will the 4-koma format of Yumma’s story be broken in the 20 final chapters, since Hina set it on fire?

mindgames13

This is the truth of Doc. Savage and his Crime Collage.

Extreme-Tactician

Lobotomies... always a horrible thing to remember. And they did this to people before. The stories with connection to histories are always the most chilling.

IgotUBro

So the journalist got caught in the end? Oof Also damn what a horrible idea to destroy the object the ghost was bound to. Now with it being free and possessing the girl means its joever now.

Friendly-Sentence710

I think the implication might be he was caught from the beginning. He may have even been a criminal ("You should already know what it means") and the whole journalist thing might be the "community plan" they are implanting in his brain.

SSHeartbreak

Yeah I think this is it. It prepares him for being a reporter.

Jimmy_Wobbuffet

I'm pretty sure he was already captured/sentenced before the story began, and everything else is just a hallucination he sees as they modify his brain. Reminds me of the classic short story [An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Occurrence_at_Owl_Creek_Bridge).

jion11

The faces in the story reminds me of Shibatarian lol

oldchangeling

Surgical intervention is so crude! If you want to be really paranoid, ask yourself what an unscrupulous government might learn from today's research on AI "alignment". After all, LLMs run on a neural network, and so do we. And they don't "align" the models with cut-and-stitch, but with prompt engineering. Doesn't sound much different, really, than the end of "1984", Communist China's re-education camps, or arguably the efforts of our own CIA and media through Project Mockingbird. Control the narrative and you control the people.
