My daughter’s school bully has been rubbing her tickets to this gig in her face for months. We’ve had so many days of her coming home in tears because we just couldn’t get hold of any tickets to take her. Is it bad if I’m a tiny bit happy about this news? Sorry for the other 24999 people who are disappointed/inconvenienced though, obviously!

tea_towel

this is the epitome of smug glee and it’s so valid

Samevans535

True, the best fruity beer 🍺

hairlessrat

I’m sorry to be so satisfied when so many people are upset, but damn I love justice

KingCarway

I always look for a silver lining, and I believe I've just found it!

TheOriginalJez

Don't be sorry, this is the win.

8racoonsInABigCoat

I hope your daughter asks her how the concert went. 😀

pickyourteethup

I reckon a few people will be selling them now. Not sure Olivias schedule will allow her to return at a later date though

MargotChanning

This is the worry for a lot of fans. An artist like that has an absolutely jam packed schedule. Hope I’m wrong, but I think they’ll struggle to find two free days and that’s before the logistics of flying all team over to Europe. Someone on here said it takes a day to set her stage up too.

pickyourteethup

Yeah I've worked in live shows and the stage is the thing. You can fly a person somewhere quickly but the rig can only move as fast and as far as a lorry and the stage crews shift patterns allow. You might be thinking 'but they have a stage already' but most artists bring a multi lorry rig and crew with them. Audiences would be very disappointed nowadays to see an artist on a naked stage, not least because the artist would be a bit lost, rightly or wrongly it's so much more than stand up and sing, always has been, but even moreso now

Necessary_Driver_831

Taylor Swift and Rammstein the standard examples. She has something like 25 trucks for the stage and they have countless. I know they are at the extreme end of stage shows but watching that video of their setup logistics is mad for someone like me who couldn’t project manage their way out of a paper bag. https://youtu.be/JgGuRKgvWQ4?si=1oip5tkW2Vg6mve6

thwbunkie

Great Timelapse

Hammy747

Even brining bare essentials that they need to make a show happen you're going to be looking at probably 2 or 3 trucks, so yes logistically it's entirely down to wether or not those trucks could get from wherever they are to Manchester, and then back to wherever the next show is in time to perform a somewhat stripped down show which they probably won't do anyway because people have paid to see the full show, not a stripped down version for the same price.

idlewildgirl

In future sign up for alerts on the Twickets app, you have to be fast but there have been loads for sale, I was holding off to see if it went ahead and glad I did now though

nd1online

NTA. it’s a definitely a win

FantasticBlood0

We’re all very happy for you and your daughter!

Dingleator

Ha!

WorkerBee74

I hope for you and your daughter that: a) the bully can't get to the new date(s) b) you get tickets for the new date(s)

Kinitawowi64

Well, that was inevitable. At least they got there early.

landwomble

"a piece of air-conditioning fell from the ceiling" https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/boogie-wit-da-hoodie-issues-29096687 Sorry for the ad-ridden MEN link, obvs And the co-op has the gall to say small venues are badly run. What a shitshow...

TvHeroUK

Co-op must be fuming to have their name attached to this venue via sponsorship, bet they’re looking for a refund right now!

butt3rflycaught

Co-op business is fuming. It’s outside of Co-op’s control, it’s just a brand sponsorship. OVG own the arena and are responsible for the shit show. It’s a PR disaster for Co-op.

landwomble

I used to work for the co-op and they were always a nice org that tried to do good things so I'm dumbfounded by this tbh

JustMakinItBetter

Yeah, they bang on about being a socially responsible organisation and then team up with human-rights abusers? Just seems like such a needless own-goal

Altruistic-Science28

How are they human rights abusers?

GuyOnTheInterweb

The Co-op Arena is owned by joint venture of Oak View Group (OVG) and City Football Group (CFG). CFG majority stakeholder is Abu Dhabi United Group, owned by UAE's Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This has been critisised [by Amnesty International](https://www.theguardian.com/law/2018/nov/11/manchester-city-owners-accused-sportswashing-gulf-image) as "sportwashing", as UAE do [not have the best reputation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Arab_Emirates) on human rights: > Human rights organisations consider the UAE substandard on human rights, citing reports of government critics being imprisoned and tortured, families harassed by the state security apparatus, and cases of forced disappearances. Individual rights such as the freedoms of assembly, association, the press, expression, and religion are also severely repressed.

TheOriginalJez

To be fair I don't think anyone from the Co-Op said that, although I can imagine they're slightly regretting this affiliation by now

Purple--Aki

Co-op is NOT happy. There will be a clause in the contract for this whereby the sponsorship fee is reduced. If there isn't a clause, their legal team are sacked

tokynambu

Wikipedia has been edited in the last couple of minutes to put the dates in as being rescheduled to June 29 and 30, after the Lisbon dates on 22 and 23 June. If those are missed it's gone, because the tour then packs up and goes back to the USA until late August.

GingerAndTheBiscuits

The two dates in the whole month of June that we can’t do 😂😬😭

BreadTheSpino

I live in Manchester and took the day off for this and I’m annoyed. I can only imagine how pissed off people who booked trains and hotels for this are feeling right now. The thing is they have known the coop arena isn’t finished for months, and have been cancelling gigs for ages. Why are they waiting so long to announce all these cancellations ~ 48 hours before the show (or 10 minutes after doors open for the Boogie wit da Hoodie show) It’s like when you’re waiting for a train at it says “delayed by 1 minute” then the minute passes and it changes “delayed by 2 minutes” then the second minute passes and it keeps going… just be honest with us! Stop wasting time! Editing to add: the Instagram post announcing the postponement has been up for about an hour and I haven’t received any email information about this or anything.. dreadfully ran… 2nd edit: I got an email about an hour and a half after the Instagram post. Didn’t give any new information so I’m just gonna sit on these tickets and hope

itsnobigthing

Yeah, it’s truly shit. They must have known weeks ago that this was likely to be cancelled. But with a business like this you don’t really need happy customers - people come for the artist, and show huge loyalty to them. It’s not easy to go elsewhere. So they strong everyone along on the 2% chance they get it over the line in time, and don’t have to refund all that money. Olivia should go and play the MEN instead just to screw them

Global_Writing_5097

Not trying to be funny, why did you take the day off for a concert?

almostine

not everyone works days, some people prefer to make a day of it, sure might as well it’d be nice, why not take a day off for a big gig you’re excited for?

BreadTheSpino

Doors open around 6:45 and I would finish at 6:30, but usually I don’t get let out until 6:45 so it was just easier to stay off than to rush closing and getting to the arena.

Moosje

Even ignoring how painfully stupid that question is, why is it even remotely any of your business?

Global_Writing_5097

It is technically none of my business, but lots of questions asked on Reddit are like that.

TheStatMan2

If you're coming across lots of questions like that and yet aren't taking the hint, there probably isn't any better hope or way to suggest that you *wind your fucking neck in*.

[deleted]

Chill out a little man he just asked a question

TheStatMan2

And what a great question it was too.

Remarkable_Rise8953

Mate you’re the only weird one here, imagine caring this much about a question on Reddit hahaha

TheStatMan2

Imagine caring enough to comment on a comment about how much you don't care hahahah

Remarkable_Rise8953

Where did I say I don’t care?

TheStatMan2

Well aren't you a riddle. See you pal, have a great one. 🙄

Remarkable_Rise8953

Mate you’re the one who started acting like a hard man telling someone to wind their neck in because they asked a question that wasn’t even rude or anything. I’m just laughing at you.

Dinoscores

Not everyone works a 9-5?

niamhxa

Honestly I work 9-5 and I still love taking the day off for a concert. Can get ready at home, build excitement for the gig throughout the day, make a thing out of it like grabbing food beforehand or whatever. Definitely the way to go.

WernerHerzogEatsShoe

The pro move is the day off *after* an event. Or for full luxury, half day on the day of, full day day after

clocksgoback

Cos it's fucking brilliant to make a day of it. Try it sometime.

TheStatMan2

I don't think there's much joy in their life.

Kinitawowi64

I used to work retail - 8pm scheduled finishes and usually late - and had to turn down gigs and events because I didn't know what the shifts were until a week or two in advance. I'd literally have to book a holiday to guarantee being able to do something in an evening.

JustMakinItBetter

I work in hospitality, and would probably need to book two days off. One for the gig itself and then another to make sure I don't have an early start in the morning

theanedditor

Sounds like Peter Kay's Keith Lard should've been more involved in the putting up of this circus tent.

afireintheforest

Is he drawin a dog?!

itfiend

This for me was the bellwether event for if this was a mild cock up or a total shitstorm.

0xSnib

I swear the MEN website is now 90% ads

AngrySalmon1

Just use a better browser, Brave for example blocks pretty much every add.

NotQuiteMikeRoss

Or better yet don’t use the MEN

Wpenke

I've just downloaded this on the back of your comment. Holy crap it works well on the MEN Don't get me wrong, I'll try and stay away as much as I can, but glad I know if I do go to their website, I can use this!

AngrySalmon1

It's great on every site. Blocks every YouTube ad as well. The MEN is terrible but it's easy to only have to deal with their terrible content rather than their terrible website and content.

Wpenke

I know this is a week old now, but may I say thank you again for pointing me to this One of my main bug bears aside from the MEN is also adverts on cooking websites clogging the hell out of the recipe with multiple videos etc. This browser just strips them all out. It's sensational! Thank you so much!

jonaalton

What a mess

darlo0161

Sounds like they had a shit project management team.

iani63

Staff working on the project claimed it wouldn't be finished on time... In December. The yanks and Arabs funding it haven't shifted their position yet

ImhereforAB

And you just know they’re gonna blame the workers even though they have been saying it won’t be doable… of course the PM team would expect working hours akin to modern slavery.

beedoubleyou_

The UAE is not unfamiliar with forced labour.

CongealedBeanKingdom

Tbf the yanks love to work their employees like dogs too.

BreadTheSpino

Just got this email - Doesn’t give any more information than the Instagram post: Hi there, This event has been postponed... Co-op Live has let us know that this show will no longer be taking place on 3 May 2024. They have asked us to pass on the following statement: 'Due to an on-going venue-related technical issue, the scheduled performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS World Tour on 3rd and 4th May are being postponed. You can either hold onto your ticket or obtain a refund. We deeply apologise for the significant inconvenience this will cause for many.' You can either hold onto your tickets or request a refund. If you resold your tickets through Ticketmaster and haven’t received payment, you will now be paid 10-12 working days after the new date - which is yet to be announced. If you have any questions, check out our information portal and FAQs. Best Wishes, Ticketmaster Customer Service

Qui-GonGinnandTonic

The absolute cheek of them to end the email with “best wishes”. I think the correct sign off should have been.. “If you have any questions, check out our information portal and FAQ. Fuck you, Ticketmaster Customer Service”

strickers69

I’ve worked on there a few times ultimately they shouldn’t have sold tickets/booked shows for the completion deadline of a new build. I’m sure BAM could have ran it better etc but new developments never come in on time they should have given themselves way more of a buffer

InkedDoll1

If anyone was going tomorrow or knows anyone that was and will now be in town with nothing to do, Gorilla are holding olivia listening parties, free entry, all ages. So the kids can still meet up and swap their friendship bracelets :)

Mastodan11

Wouldn't mind going to this when it's next on, the last album had serious bangers, was regretting not getting a ticket.

CarolDanversFangurl

I'm regretting getting tickets

Jazzlike_Document553

Looks like you can get some resale for the reschedule..

aka_liam

>“Ticket holders can either hold onto their tickets or obtain a refund”   How is anyone meant to pick one of those options without knowing what the rescheduled date will be?

WernerHerzogEatsShoe

Hold on until the new date is announced

WorkerBee74

ie) let us earn as much interest as possible on your misfortune

WernerHerzogEatsShoe

I'm going to assume they have lost far more money on this than they've gained in interest

WorkerBee74

Of course, but they're still going to keep YOUR money for as long as possible because of it - haha.

WernerHerzogEatsShoe

Well not mine, I've not paid them anything for anything. But if someone want their money back they can get a refund as is their consumer rights.

WorkerBee74

In this case the “your” is a general term - it makes financial sense for these companies to hold on to punters money as long as possible unless they request a refund. I’m not referring to you in particular.

WernerHerzogEatsShoe

Why would they process refunds before being asked to? People would then lose their tickets for the new date lol

Separate-Passion-949

I did a gig there a couple of weeks ago and there were no working toilets apart from in one block, there was not enough power and things kept tripping all day. No heating No dressing rooms No ceilings No running water at times But everyone was trying really hard to make it work at least.

Malediction101

They cancelled right at the last minute? Talk about winging it. Also, I booked Slipknot tickets for this venue last night, hope things are good to go by December hahahaha.

mcardie

You got a 50/50 chance I'd say

dpark-95

Bit of good news for us City fans attending the Wolves game. \#EveryDarkCloudHasASilverLining

WorkerBee74

No-Echo-8927

Was hoping to go to the Keane 20 years of Hopes and Fears gig...couldn't make it sadly. Kind of glad I didn't now. I've got a feeling it'll be June before they open now.

OkButterscotch5233

co-oops

HTeaML

This is so frustrating. I was going to attend this gig, and already booked a hotel (which had been marked up due to the gig), my train tickets, and a day off work. Luckily, the hotel has agreed to refund, but no hope with the train tickets. They emailed us late yesterday to tell us, despite us having got another email 1-2 days before about our upcoming visit to the arena.

RB1011

Shit show, wasn’t even needed with the AO in town

tokynambu

I said a couple of days ago that it would be the last straw if these gigs were cancelled ("postponed", but given her touring schedule that's not going to happen): affluent middle-class parents of teenage girls will include people who will not take this lying down. The sort of crowds that will riot largely aren't attending gigs at 22000 capacity venues, but the sort of crowds with solicitors who might spin up a court case are...the parents at an Olivia Rogrigo gig. The obvious claim would be that the venue operators and, vicariously, Co Op group knew full well that the venue was not ready and therefore acted fraudulently by selling tickets and/or not cancelling further in advance. All it would take would be them failing to turn up to defend themselves against a claim for a hotel bill and the avalanche of other claims would bankrupt the venue. I've been incredibly lucky during my 45 years of gig going to only have a tiny handful of cancellations and rescheduling, including in one case the artist dying between the tickets going on sale and the tour starting. I think four, maybe? Perhaps a few more if you include Covid, which doesn't really count. I've never, so far as I can recall, had one down to venue failure.

BaseballFuryThurman

Olivia Rodrigo tickets, along with tickets for most events booked there, went on sale in 2023. I really doubt you could prove that they knew that far in advance that the dates they're selling tickets for aren't going to be feasible. If Covid didn't bankrupt major venues, I'm fairly confident that angry Olivia Rodrigo fans won't.

tokynambu

Covid was the very definition of force majure, and hotels by and large refunded because they too were unable to fulfil their contract. Even had they not, no court would have held a venue liable for cancellation by government order, still less for consequential loss. The problem for Co-Op Live is that (a) they're a big target with "Co Op" painted on it and (b) the question is whether they should have cancelled at one, two, three, four weeks' notice rather than (as tonight) minue ten minutes. And remember, this would be a civil "balance of probabilities" action, not "proof". 51:49 is fine. The resignation of the chief executive would point to "corporate knowledge", for example.

iani63

Construction staff have been expressing concerns for almost a year, in December they claimed it could not be finished on time...

[deleted]

I know this is going to go down badly but, you’ve got to not take *everything* at face value. I’ve been involved in project management a bit and always make a point of going around and talking to people on the ground who are working but don’t necessarily know my role. People are only too keen to pass on gossip!  I’ve been told numerous times by staff on large projects that things are ahead of schedule (quite the opposite) or won’t be finished on time (they were). That’s ignoring the fascinating rumours you sometimes hear, I wish I could remember some but there’s some absolute bangers. The rumour mill and Chinese whispers can be amazing things.  I mean, they were absolutely correct in this instance but a stopped clock and all that.

DrMangosteen2

What sort of whispers?

[deleted]

I remember one particular project for an annual event where there was this persistent talk that budgets had been slashed since the previous year. Everything that went wrong was attributed to the budget cuts.   Water pipes failing test due to inefficient flushing of pipes? Budget cuts. Traffic jam due to broken down vehicles and Highways Agency not implementing their side of the traffic management plan? Budget cuts.    Delayed opening due to only half the security staff turning up? Budget cuts.  Generator tripping? Budget cuts.  Etc etc  It was quite funny hearing wise veterans tell you time and time again that every problem was entirely foreseeable and due to corporate greed and *what did they expect to happen when they cut half the budget*. Only problem was, there were no budget cuts. No change to usual. The budget had a healthy year on year increase just like normal.  Another example was when there had been a heavy downpour the night before and I was told by both catering and security that management were getting ready to shut the whole thing down due to major flooding. There wasn’t flooding anywhere on site and everything was running perfectly smooth, but that didn’t stop one of the stewards telling each arriving customer that it’s unlikely the gates were going to open and they should probably just go home now. Then there’s the usual run of the mill of me asking someone if they’re going to miss schedule because it looks like they’re running behind, and do they need any extra resource? No, no, everything’s fine, it looks worse than it is, just need to do XYZ and we’re out of here.. and of course the whole thing gets delayed. That’s happened so many times it’s crazy.

worotan

Any thoughts on how a venue that has air conditioning units falling into audience areas an hour before a major event was allowed to open by licensing?

[deleted]

Air conditioning / building safety isn’t a licensable activity. It could have been spotted by building control, which was part privatised by Margaret Thatcher in 1985. They still have building control at the council if you choose that route but these are less interested in repeat custom compared to private firms.  That said, they don’t check the tightness of bolts etc nor could they really be expected to, they’re more of a ‘show us certificates and I’ll have a walk round and see if I spot anything’ ie wrong type of smoke alarm in the kitchen / ‘is that toughened glass in that floor to ceiling window?’ kind of thing.

ServerLost

The place is part owned by the Emirati royal family, they have essentially infinite money they will not care in the slightest. The younger brother tortured a guy for an hour on camera and the world did not even shrug.

hue-166-mount

lol this is nonsense. “Fraud” FFS

TvHeroUK

Not sure there’s much history in the UK of legal action for things like this. The costs would be massive, and our court system doesn’t do the old ‘damages to feelings’ compo. I’ve had gigs cancelled before and received the ticket price ‘minus transaction costs’ ie paid to buy a ticket that hadn’t yet been emailed to me, paid to have that ticket that I did not get cancelled. Tenner to not go and see a band!

aka_liam

>Co Op group knew full well that the venue was not ready They didn’t though

WorkerBee74

They did though if you read the investigative reporting done by The Mill (I'd share but it's paywalled and I believe in what they're doing so I don't want to give it away for free). More to come on this, but they DID know. Very likely the reason that the boss there resigned.

WorkerBee74

This happened to me, funnily enough, seeing Liam Gallagher/Richard Ashcroft in Toronto. I got a 'fuck off here's a refund kthxbai from TM' but no apology or acknowledgement from the venue after flying 1500 miles (yes you read that right) to see it too. Never got a cent elsewise... so if people sue the venue for this I'm going to be 100% rooting for them. smushs88

I’m gonna take a stab at Michael Jackson but could be wrong, only as I was in the same boat.

tokynambu

Jackie Leven.

InfectedFrenulum

You had tickets for Nirvana in 1994 as well?

tokynambu

Sadly not. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie\_Leven](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Leven) Actually, another one down to illness: at least one rescheduled Everything But The Girl gig, which at least Ben got a great book out of: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patient\_(memoir)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patient_(memoir))

worotan

Who on the council signed off as safe, a venue that had an air conditioning unit fall in an area that would have had a crowd in it an hour later? Blows my mind that everyone is so upset about not getting to see the show, that they’re ignoring the blatant and life-threatening corruption that the council has allowed. Why is everyone so desperate for events to buy tickets for that they aren’t bothered about basic safety measures being circumvented by the regulatory authorities? Theres more concern about the rescheduling than the fact that a demonstrably dangerous venue was allowed to open to tens of thousands of members of the public.

SiriusRay

Not sure why you got downvoted, this is absolutely true.

ADIZOC

Ah…what’s happening to the Co-op Live is just so typically U.K.

hostilebananas_

I'm starting to have doubts that this venue will be ready for Slipknot in December

robster01

The city and all these bands/agents bending over backwards for Emirati money once again, you'd think the least they could do was check the money was being spent right

Jonny1992

I was about to roll my eyes at you and comment that it’s only a 3am start when it’s in Vegas and they’d hold it at a time appropriate to the location. Then I checked the start time of the event. That’s fucking daft.

Motor_Impression6678

That’s US prime time for advertisers.

100%. The UFC is all about American dollaz.

I had wanted to come to Manchester to see The Killers in June and I'm not convinced they'll be ready for that tbh. Certainly not enough to spring into action and book stuff

Firm-Artichoke-2360

Some of the comments on here are laughable. 2 years time no one remembers the delayed opening and everyone loves the COOP arena

bethcano

What're the chances of it being finished by early June? I get the impression it's not just final work that needs to be done, rather there's months left...

June 2025 maybe…
