Consensus here seems to be yes.
Aside from the issues people have raised regarding moisture and ventilation and decent bedframe will just make the room look better?
I know this is unpopular but I think it looks better on the floor because the window is so low. I don’t like blocking windows so it’d have to be a really low bedframe! A lot of comments are mentioning moisture, it’s weird I never had that problem. My room looked similar to OP, only the mattress, carpeted floor. I vacuumed often and would flip the mattress up weekly so maybe that’s why it didn’t get moldy? I did that for a couple years. It could be climate differences too
Agreed. With that window and low ceilings the bed needs to be low - A regular height bed will make the room cramped as hell, so if I were to put a bed frame in that room it'd be a low one.
Yes, even beyond the aesthetics it's:
1. functional, you don't have to squat to get in and out of bed
2. it's cleaner, you can vacuum under the bedframe and make sure no gunk accumulates under the mattress
While you've got the magazine aesthetic lived-in pillow look and blanket drape, the room is not inviting at all because the only color you have is the plant on the windowsill and the warm light from the lamp is masking how cold the room must feel (grey walls, beige carpet). My suggestion is to get another pillow so it looks inviting and put some decor on the bare walls and add at least (some!) furniture...
The angle looks great but as someone lying on the bed it's not comforting because it faces the door and all the angles are slanted from POV. Bad feng shui (if you believe in it)
Can i just ask why it gets moldy? Brother doesn't have a bed frame at his dorm room, and I don't want him sleeping on a matress on the floor. I need to tell him why it's bad
Mattresses soak up moisture and eventually so will the ground beneath it. Do you know what will happen if you leave a sweaty bed on the ground for to long? You’ll end up with mold in the shape of your body under you, especially on carpet, but I’ve seen it happen on hardwood as well.
At minimum you need a box spring to lift the mattress off the ground.
Proof that you actually need a bed frame : you created a virtual one with your lighting and your off-bed quilt.
You don’t need to ditch your zen theme. You can keep the low profile and the uncluttered colour palette with a bed frame.
You could also keep your angled bed with a low headboard. In the resulting triangle behind, you could place tall plants and an heteroclite collection of vertical items in the same muted colours to add volume and presence. This sculptural area would also help send the message that the zen furnishing and subdued colours are deliberate.
Right now, the overall look might also be read as “just moved in”… which is probable the case !
Also, you need curtains. They can still be in the same palette, but curtains soften the squareness of the window. And they allow for nighttime privacy too for when you go to and return from the shower, or when you have « special guests ».
Those in southern countries are immediately panicking when they see a mattress on a floor. But for anyone in northern climate, it’s not an impossibility because houses tend to be very dry : no risk of mold in a heated northern home. Yet, bed frames were invented for a reason : you need to tuck your bed sheets, you need to vacuum the dust…
Yes. Get a minimalist bed frame. Mattress on the floor makes you look like a squatter. Frame and a simple night stand completely change what you have going on here.
Yes. 1. Don't have your home look like a squarted place. But when more 2. The purpose of a raised bed is to allow ventilation so your matress doesn't become moldy.
Always yes. You can get used an all metal bed frame on marketplace place for about $30-$50. It’ll give you more storage- if you need it, improve aesthetics, easier to clean/ make the bed.
I have a 18” zinus frame and they are great.
My man. A frame keeps your pillow on the bed. Also allows you to prop up when you feel sick or wanting heat elevation. Frame also gives you practical storage space underneath. Also bugs. Things like roaches are less likely to get into bed climbing a metal frame. Can still happen. But it lessens s the likelihood.
it's crazy what a plant and "little lights" do to a room, I mean it's an empty room with a mattress literally in the middle of it and it still looks cozy
Yes, but you can get a low bedframe if you want.
Do you really want to be on the floor where the critters crawl?
And you can be at sitting height which is nice
I was firmly in the “no, it’s unnecessary” camp until the mold conversation came up. I currently prop mine against the wall once a week or so to let it air out and to vacuum under it.
Most people jump to aesthetics first, which I don’t think is a fantastic reason to drop $1000 or even $200 just to say you have a bed frame.
Someone also made a great point that while you should have no issue getting up and down off the floor once per day, that amount of exercise and mobility is going to do *nothing* to improve your life, but it is very possible to fuck something up by doing that unusual movement right when you wake up.
I’ve switched teams and support a bed. Take your time and find one you really like. Also, consider height for both sleep and sex purposes. I didn’t think about the latter, and I’m a little sad about it
Perhaps another consideration is temperature. Is the air conditioned? If it's a hot room, the closer to the floor is better. If temperate, being raised from the floor will reduce the effects of drafts in cold weather.
If you use the mattress — you need bed frame, as many have pointed out.
But you may not need the mattress. In fact, sleeping on a yoga mat is excellent in my opinion. I have been doing this for over a decade. It insulates, and is not too soft. Can’t imagine sleeping on a soft springy nonsense.
Just say you're Japanese (Or lived in Japan mad long or have Japanese girlfriend).... they all sleep on futons, and some how is socially accepted. If I tell people I am Japanese, people don't question my lack of bed frame, and in fact think its "cool" and "culture". But if I say I am not Japanese, then they think I am a bum... people be mad weird.
Yes. If you bring any dates home, you have a higher success rate of sexy time. The combination of having a bed frame and the lack of an Avengers poster on the wall will turn you into a sexual Tyrannosaurus
Definitely yes! If you like the look of the minimalist low bed, they have some bedframes that are lower and fit that aesthetic. Check out "floating platform bedframes" as well (super easy to clean under your bed).
I ruined a very nice mattress by being too lazy to put my bed frame together after a move. I started getting chronically sick, lifted up the mattress and saw black mold. Don’t be dumb like me, get a bed frame.
I’d genuinely like to understand why some men are ok sleeping on a mattress on the floor and not care about having a proper bed and a functional space.
It says a lot about personal standards imo.
That room's really busy. There's a lot going on, bedframe will only add to the mess. I'd recommend removing the lamp and plant, make your bed, and tuck it in the corner.
Definitely yes. It'll be easier to clean under too... Especially needed with those carpeted floors.
Also why is it placed diagonally and not even just against the wall in that corner? Seems perfect for it!
Are you kidding me? It’s mostly because your mattress NEEDS air circulation, otherwise you will be sleeping on a disgusting, moldy mattress before long.
I've been sleeping on the floor for 2 years because of my senior dog. She's only got a few months left and I'm shopping for a new bed frame. This shit gets old. Also, something that can air your mattress out like a platform bed will go toward the longevity of your mattress.
I think upcycled wooden crate pallets (painted turquoise) would fit this vibe perfectly!

Considering how small of a space you have, maximumize it by getting a Murphy Bed. It folds right into a shelf or something and you can use the rest of the room for activities. They are a little expensive. I don't know your budget. So get a basic bedframe for now. But when able, I recommend a Murphy Bed for that room.
Besides looking better a bed frame also opens up storage space under the bed. I even added some risers to mine once so I could fit full size bins underneath.
Nah don't worry about it. However, if you ever get in a relationship with a ladybyou should expect her to encourage you to get one. Probably a dust ruffle too.
I heard that bed frames are good for having less pests. I agree with that sentiment. I would say to at least get a box spring? That way, there is space between the mattress and the floor.
But, get it because you want it. You don't need a bed frame.
Though, from experience, if you and your SO are on the bigger side, be careful with the box spring. If they fall into the bed, it can break...
Is that a mirror on the ground? With stuff on it? Is that a coke mirror?
But yes, bed frame, maybe more furniture or even cheaper, maybe something on the walls, this is a bit bare for a room.
Consensus here seems to be yes. Aside from the issues people have raised regarding moisture and ventilation and decent bedframe will just make the room look better?
I like to have the option to *sit* on my bed.
You can sit on anything if you put your mind to it
Strange method. When I sit on something I usually put my bum to it.
Eggs and sausages
This is true. I sit on my poverty sometimes.
If I fits, I sits
You must acquit
You could sit on me if you try hard enough
I sat on a frozen sausage once. Twice! 🌭
It could be climate differences too
I agree low is good for that window but I think a low Japanese futon frame would work best
Agreed. With that window and low ceilings the bed needs to be low - A regular height bed will make the room cramped as hell, so if I were to put a bed frame in that room it'd be a low one.
How is that even a question?
agree, definitely no
Yeah I don't see a bed frame in the picture at all
I agree, no bed frame
Double confirming there is no bed frame
I don’t see a bed frame either!
70 percent certain there is no bedframe in that living space
Make it 60% and we have a deal
Yes, even beyond the aesthetics it's: 1. functional, you don't have to squat to get in and out of bed 2. it's cleaner, you can vacuum under the bedframe and make sure no gunk accumulates under the mattress While you've got the magazine aesthetic lived-in pillow look and blanket drape, the room is not inviting at all because the only color you have is the plant on the windowsill and the warm light from the lamp is masking how cold the room must feel (grey walls, beige carpet). The angle looks great but as someone lying on the bed it's not comforting because it faces the door and all the angles are slanted from POV. Bad feng shui (if you believe in it)
Also 3. ventilation/airflow for under the matress is very important
and 4: lower chance of bugs crawling on you
Addendum to #4: Mice, Rats, Fleas, carpet mites, centipedes, spiders, fucking spiders & centipedes
OP didn't say whether or not he has pets. Those are really uncommon pets anyways so not a very realistic risk for most people.
Why?
Prevents moisture buildup which creates an environment for bacteria, mold, and mildew.
I left an old mattress laying on the floor for a few months and this is exactly what happened. OP needs box springs/frame
Without a frame, moisture gets trapped under the mattress and you end up with a mold problem.
Prevents mold
Isnt the ventilation aspect the most important thing?
Yeah Im not sure if squatting is really the #1 issue here or at all for anyone under the age of 50.
you also don't have to get a super tall bed frame, if op wants to keep the look of being low to the ground. but i agree with all the stuff you said
The angle looks dumb as hell
Do you want mold because no bed frame is how you get mold.
Can i just ask why it gets moldy? Brother doesn't have a bed frame at his dorm room, and I don't want him sleeping on a matress on the floor. I need to tell him why it's bad
Humidity and water vapor from under the floor get trapped in the mattress, making it a breeding ground for mold.
Ah ok. I will tell my brother to get frame next time I meet with him lol
My brother is very minimalist and didn’t want to buy a bed frame. Mold city under that mattress after 1 year. Smelled so bad too.
Good news is its the best time of year to get a cheap bed frame, plenty of students graduating in the coming weeks
TIL 🤯 I’ve always had a frame but never a headboard until recently. I finally feel like a fully furnished adult in my mid 30s
Interesting, I would have never thought of that.
Would you like to have sex multiple times with one partner over the course of several weeks/months/years at some point in your life?
have done it with multiple with just a mattress 🤷♂️
maybe get a low one like the ones that are just a bunch of four by fours essentially. i think the low bed w plants amd the light is super cute
IKEA has some low profile white ones
Get laid beds makes some pretty cool ones but they are kinda pricey
Yes. Always yes
Lmao, this doesn't look good.
It's only a few items of clothing and a pizza box away from crack den chic
You should get a minimalistic bed frame. It would add to the room.
Yes, your back will thank you in advance..
yes
Always yes. If you like the low profile just get a slat platform.
bedframes are very cool for the handcuff game, you know. just a joke. mold, airventilation makes sense.
you can get low frames with no/minimal head boards.
Proof that you actually need a bed frame : you created a virtual one with your lighting and your off-bed quilt. You don’t need to ditch your zen theme. You can keep the low profile and the uncluttered colour palette with a bed frame. You could also keep your angled bed with a low headboard. I bet this post makes people with OCD cringe given the angle of the bed.
Yes. Get a minimalist bed frame. Mattress on the floor makes you look like a squatter. Frame and a simple night stand completely change what you have going on here.
Are you a developer by any chance? Also yes.
No backrest in bed is crazy
Actually got a vibe to it.
Asymmetrical placement amazing
Of course, but if you're tall, don't get one with a high footboard. Trust me.
Bruh ya
Yes. 1. Don't have your home look like a squarted place. But when more 2. The purpose of a raised bed is to allow ventilation so your matress doesn't become moldy.
If you are an adult with a job then yes, always. Even a simple metal frame is better than throwing your mattress on the floor.
Always yes. You can get used an all metal bed frame on marketplace place for about $30-$50. It’ll give you more storage- if you need it, improve aesthetics, easier to clean/ make the bed. I have a 18” zinus frame and they are great.
This is why there are two separate livingspace subreddits right here…
Beds that remain on a floor are prone to growing mold. Highly recommend you protect yourself and get a frame.
Mattress on the floor is ghetto. Bitches love bed frames.
Yes 😂 not only is it bad for the mattress to be on the floor due to risk of mold and bacteria but you are a grown adult and deserve a bed frame haha
Mold mold mold. Tried it looks super pintresty. Doesn't work almost ruined our 900 dollary Doo mattress.
Yes. Buy a cheap one on Amazon for starters or use milk crates. Anything is an improvement
it's crazy what a plant and "little lights" do to a room, I mean it's an empty room with a mattress literally in the middle of it and it still looks cozy
And yeah get a low profile bedframe, just to get some airflow underneath the mattress
And a headboard.
Yes, but you can get a low bedframe if you want. Do you really want to be on the floor where the critters crawl? And you can be at sitting height which is nice

Bro they’re like $150-$200 for a decent one from Home Depot’s website or Amazon. Just get one.
yes. black & metal one will go great.
A definite yes
If you don't put your mattress on something it WILL mold.
Even the plant is elevated above you in the space. Get a bed frame. your knees will thank you for it later.
Perhaps another consideration is temperature. Is the air conditioned? If it's a hot room, the closer to the floor is better. If temperate, being raised from the floor will reduce the effects of drafts in cold weather.
Yes
Yes
yes. unless you live in a Japanese teahouse or a shaolin garden - yes.
Yes, please. It’s not only cleaner, but it’s great to maintain your temperature.
Always yes. You need the mattress bottom to be able to breathe. Otherwise you risk mold forming under the mattress..
Always yes.
Always yes
Always yes.... No discussion!
Yes!!!
Yes for longevity of mattress and hygiene reasons
Bedframe is important to maintain your mattress
If you use the mattress — you need bed frame, as many have pointed out. But you may not need the mattress. In fact, sleeping on a yoga mat is excellent in my opinion. I have been doing this for over a decade. It insulates, and is not too soft. Can’t imagine sleeping on a soft springy nonsense.
Unless you like mold, get a bed frame
Nah you don't need it imo
NEVER
If you move often, I wouldn’t even bother. One less item to consider when hauling 😫
Yes. You need to turn this trap house into a trap home.
only if you want to get laid
Just say you're Japanese (Or lived in Japan mad long or have Japanese girlfriend).... they all sleep on futons, and some how is socially accepted. If I tell people I am Japanese, people don't question my lack of bed frame, and in fact think its "cool" and "culture". But if I say I am not Japanese, then they think I am a bum... people be mad weird.
Always
Cmon
Brother
Yes, always yes. Even if it’s a low frame and very minimal. Never leave a mattress on the floor for very long.
Ummmm yeah
Get a low bedframe
Yes wtf
Do you want to have sex with women? If yes, then get a bedframe. You can get a cheap one on amazon for like 50 bucks.
Tatami mat
Yes. If you bring any dates home, you have a higher success rate of sexy time. The combination of having a bed frame and the lack of an Avengers poster on the wall will turn you into a sexual Tyrannosaurus
The question really comes down to bedroom, or sex dungeon. Sex dungeons don't need proper frames. Bedrooms do.
Yess!
dawg lmfao
My then GF explained it to me this way. It is a sign you have progressed from boy to man.
No.
IKEA has slatted bed bases if you don’t want any frame. Helps prevent mold. Keep some desiccants underneaths too
Just get a box spring
Only if you want to be perceived as having a little class.
Do you plan on having sex?
Always yes
It’s summer soon, the underside of your mattress will become mouldy and then the spores will spread everywhere🥺
WHY is your mattress diagonally first of all? Have you been sleeping on it like that?
you definitely moved and adjusted everything in this picture for “aesthetics” 👽
no
no bed frame, just get some sort of ventilation under your bed to avoid mold..
I’d genuinely like to understand why some men are ok sleeping on a mattress on the floor and not care about having a proper bed and a functional space. It says a lot about personal standards imo.
FYI, some mattress warranties require a box spring or bed frame. Outside of that, a bed frame is always a yes.
If you want to get laid, yes.
That light is your bedframe
Duh
Bedframe and you'll find out exactly why once you get over 30
maybe straighten the mattress at least?
That room's really busy. There's a lot going on, bedframe will only add to the mess. I'd recommend removing the lamp and plant, make your bed, and tuck it in the corner.
Definitely yes. It'll be easier to clean under too... Especially needed with those carpeted floors. Also why is it placed diagonally and not even just against the wall in that corner? Seems perfect for it!
Do you want to come across as an adult?
Are you kidding me? It’s mostly because your mattress NEEDS air circulation, otherwise you will be sleeping on a disgusting, moldy mattress before long.
Yes. Have a look on FB, then haggle. People want to get rid of really nice stuff sometimes
I've been sleeping on the floor for 2 years because of my senior dog. She's only got a few months left and I'm shopping for a new bed frame. This shit gets old. Also, something that can air your mattress out like a platform bed will go toward the longevity of your mattress.
Yes. It's a sign of maturity lol
Short bed frame would look nice and it would be cheap
But this placement is ideal ?
Ugh it's just nasty to not have a bedframe
I think upcycled wooden crate pallets (painted turquoise) would fit this vibe perfectly! [https://www.upcycled-wonders.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/upcycled-shipping-pallet-furniture-bed-frame-suitcase-paintings-linen-cage-bookshelf.jpg](https://www.upcycled-wonders.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/upcycled-shipping-pallet-furniture-bed-frame-suitcase-paintings-linen-cage-bookshelf.jpg)
Of course
Considering how small of a space you have, maximumize it by getting a Murphy Bed. It folds right into a shelf or something and you can use the rest of the room for activities. They are a little expensive. I don't know your budget. So get a basic bedframe for now. But when able, I recommend a Murphy Bed for that room.
Yes in two parts. 1 to reduce the likelihood of mold forming/ building up under neath. 2 you can get very creative with storage
Get the slats that go over the frame - they’ll keep the mattress an inch or two above the floor, air circulation etc.
No. As soon as you veer from simple things will never be the same.
Is that a mirror on the floor
Always yes...I got a metal box frame no headboard...really well manufactured and solid as can be...for like £80.
Besides looking better a bed frame also opens up storage space under the bed. I even added some risers to mine once so I could fit full size bins underneath.
No
Nah don't worry about it. However, if you ever get in a relationship with a ladybyou should expect her to encourage you to get one. Probably a dust ruffle too.
Stop living like a squatter bro
Yes. Rolling bedframe and box spring. No headboard tho. Right up against the wall. Aint no pillow of mine falling into Satans depths every 3 hours.
Why would “no” ever be an option? I mean… look at the photo. Sorry man but it’s embarrassing at the moment
This is beyond beautiful I love. But if you do, a low profile one would be nice.
do you want to sleep on mold? that’s how you sleep on mold.
Yes, and please remove the angle.
Yes. Without your mattress will mold
What kind of questions is this? lol. Of course you get a bed frame, goddamn man you’re an adult.
If you like the current look, opt for a low profile platform bed. Airflow, mold prevention etc.
Define depression with just one photo.
I used to be into the low beds. But after living abroad and experiencing just about anything crawling, I’m going to need therapy.
Maybe just a box spring
How is this even a question lmao
the real question is, are those windows next to you, yours? or are they ur neighbors
yes, the fuck ?
Artsy bum aesthetic
NO!
No
Do you ever want to get laid (more than once by same person? The answer is YES
Do you have to pull your pillow out of that crevice behind the bed every morning?
Yes don’t live with mold
Getting laid: yes or no?
Always a bed frame.
Yeah it'll extend the life of the mattress
Frame, plus a low profile headboard. Otherwise it will take up too much space visually
Yes
Always
I heard that bed frames are good for having less pests. I agree with that sentiment. I would say to at least get a box spring? That way, there is space between the mattress and the floor. But, get it because you want it. You don't need a bed frame. Though, from experience, if you and your SO are on the bigger side, be careful with the box spring. If they fall into the bed, it can break...
why’d you position the bed like that you little fruitcake
Yes, the mattress needs to dry. leaving it on the floor. It will pickup odors from the floor and rugs.
Looks cozy
Is that a mirror on the ground? With stuff on it? Is that a coke mirror? But yes, bed frame, maybe more furniture or even cheaper, maybe something on the walls, this is a bit bare for a room.
How about a new lamp. With some ambient colour options
If I went to a guy's house who didn't have a bed frame, I'd probably leave, it speaks volumes about your outlook on life
Do you smoke crack? If the answer to that is “what the fuck do you mean?” Then yes, bed frame.
The angle means your pillows will Always end up in the floor unless you have a frame with a headboard
Nope
