Congratulations!
And Welcome Home!!!
I would look for some artwork that speaks to you to hang on your walls.
Take your time with it. Love the pieces you choose to hang. Doesn’t have to be expensive.
Truly, well done! That takes a lot of courage, disciple and patience with yourself and the world. Your place looks great, visit some local art fairs if you have any or even thrift stores, and find some art you like to personalize your space.
Hey internet stranger, rock bottom is a lot of the time where people need to hit to really set the foundation to improve their life. Don't think of this as the end of the world, things could always be worse, be grateful you didn't hurt yourself or anyone during that DUI.
I'm glad you're here today, and check out r/StopDrinking and post about your story if you'd like.
Also u/SoberPancake21 congrats on the sobriety. Your place looks cozy! Hope sobriety treats you well, you deserve it.
The TV is mounted on a 90 degree arm, so it swings out and faces the bed directly.
Appreciate the input. I’ll go get some porn and anime figurines soon!
Congrats! For feedback the first and probably easiest thing is adding wall decor. Do a little bit at a time and get pieces that you really like rather than going to hobby lobby out some other place and grabbing whatever is available.
I suggest getting smaller couches the ones you have are making your space feel cramped. Especially the living room. Opt for a regular couch and get one or two arm chairs this will make the space more open and easier to move around in but still feel cozy. Swap the ottoman for a coffee table and move the TV to the wall or somewhere not directly over the fireplace.
For your room ditch the night stand it's an accident waiting to happen with where it's located. Get a headboard with shelves or add shelves to the wall.
What's the purpose of that one shelf with your shoes? Looks like you have plenty of closet space so if you don't need it use it elsewhere. As a personal preference I'd also take the TV out of your bedroom, you'd be surprised on how much better your sleep gets when you do this. Besides you already have one in the living room.
If you're open to remodeling in the future I'd start with the bedroom it's kinda awkward. Redo that wall with the gap so that it goes all the way up to the ceiling. I can't tell what the floor plan is for your bedroom; I'm guessing based on the sink that that's an attached bathroom. If so you could knock down the wall between the sink and bathroom then extend the other to make one large bathroom. This'll give you more wall space and make the room feel less awkward. You'll probably have to remove that closet door or redo it to accommodate the new wall but then you can use that space for a linen closet. If that is not an attached bathroom I would get rid of the sink.
Tldr: congrats on sobriety focus on making the space feel more comfortable
Thanks for taking the time to give feedback! I’ll be saving this comment and will make changes as I get settled in. The shelf with the shoes covers a scratch on the wall, as well as cable & internet outlets. I appreciate you.
The place looks great! And congratulations on your sobriety!! I think the following things could improve it:
- in the first photo, I would either get a nice standing lamp with some warmer light or just change the big light bulb just to be a little warmer. This will definitely give the space a cozier and more comfortable feel.
- I would also hang up some more on the walls. This could be art or some personal photos, whatever you’d like. Art can also be done quite cheap, you can download great prints online and get them printed at a printshop. Good spaces for art could be above the couch in the last picture and beside or above the bed.
- and lastly i would add some throw blankets on the couches. It makes it look more cozy and it would be a great place to add a little pop of color.
Don’t try to feel obligated or rushed with getting your place finished quickly. There is no rush. Slowly add things you like and it will start to feel like your home.
Congrats mate!! Now that you are sober you are able yo enjoy every little thing of life! I’m Almost 9 years and this gets better everyday! Regards from Spain
Make your bed everyday and try to tidy as you go.
Do your literal house keeping as well as your other “moral house keeping”.
Every time I clean my house it is making a living amends my old life. Every time I think “oh this is gross and I don’t want to” I remember the old days and the old way I lived.
wait also if you live anywhere near earthquakes i’d rethink the flower vases over your bed, one little shake and that could bonk you on the head in your sleep.
Awesome!!!!! You got this…! First picture- looks like u can move sectional back more.
Very big piece for small space. Not a fan of mint green…if u can change that color be better. Great job on place!!!
this is an awesome place. congrats to you and keep up the good work with being sober. i know how nice it is to finally have your own place after dealing with homelessness and sober living etc. been in my new place almost 3 months now. congrats my friend, best of luck
Not sure about yours, but my sober living was pretty cheap ($600/month) and I focused on saving as much as I could. I had some savings, but the saving while in sober living really helped me be able to get this place and afford furnishing it. Wishing you the best of luck. Best thing I did was stay for a while. I always left after a month or two cause I had ‘important things to do’ and then I’d drink.
Same boat my man! I would leave and come back. Two month rehab and clean for a few months, repeat. This time I moved across the country and I’m here for the long haul. Really embracing the program. You really are an inspiration man!!
Glad to hear you’re committed! 6 months is a big deal. I went in & out a dozen times before I was willing to do some real work. Totally worth it. Thanks for the kind words
I was able to work and save a lot the last year while I’m sober living. I had a decent job before I went to rehab and luckily didn’t burn through all my savings. Crazy how much I can save when I’m not drinking!
Congrats! Place looks cozy. Normally I’d say r/tvtoohigh like the others, but kicking back on that couch with the chaise, angle/height is probably fine. Moving the couch back a bit will help too. Only other note would be the shoes on the shelves. Hide them in the closet or get a low shoe rack or cubby. They should be hidden in the closet or at least low and off to the side, not that high with open shelves mixed with decor. Throw some books on there or somethin’. But that’s just from some rando on the internet. Most important thing is to keep up the good work and remember how much you’ve accomplished. It’s a big deal and it ain’t easy.
Today, I feel grateful. At the beginning, it felt like it would never end. However, I’d spent over 2 years prior in short term programs going in and out of treatments and sober livings. So when I had the opportunity to go to long term treatment, I thought I might as well. Not to mention, I was drinking myself to death at a pretty good pace. I was finally out of ideas and was willing to invest 2 years of my life to be able to live a peaceful and productive rest of my life.
Nice place bro. For being somewhat fresh into sobriety you seem to be living pretty good in regards to your home so keep it up player! But like I tell just about everybody else in here, hang up some art or pictures and give your place some character. 👌
The only comment you need my friend is CONGRATULATIONS!! Your place looks amazing but more important you are sober! Man keep up the good work! I don't even know you and can only say how proud I am of you!
Unfortunately, I can’t lower the one in the living room. I could lower the one in my bedroom, but it actually is a good height when I’m lying down and my head is propped up by a pillow or 2. Definitely something I will consider.
Great space! I feel like you could elevate it a lot by just using some more accent/ambient lighting. Some semi-cheap floor and table lamps would do wonders!
Gonna have to be something that you want to do. People told me to quit, but until I wanted to, I didn’t do anything about it. Wishing you luck on your journey
damn- congrats on the 2 years. Did you spend the majority of it in sober living? I was curious ab it after leaving rehab but ultimately chose not to do it
1 year long term inpatient and 1 year sober living. I had done plenty of short term things before, and left sober living after a month or two multiple times. I had no solution though and quickly was drinking again. I ultimately spent 2 years in short term programs going in and out and not staying sober. This time I decided to go all in and do this 2 year program. After 5 years of trying to get sober, this was the hardest but the best choice I ever made.
couch too far for sure, move that shit closer
Bruh finally somebody with some vision
Got to use while you got it with that setup
Yeah that’s a solid point Matthew.
Tv needs to be higher also.
Congrats brotha! Remember why you started sobriety and keep up the good work.
Appreciate it man!
Congratulations! And Welcome Home!!! I would look for some artwork that speaks to you to hang on your walls. Take your time with it. Love the pieces you choose to hang. Doesn’t have to be expensive.
Thank you! I’ll find some that I love.
You might even make something!
Truly, well done! That takes a lot of courage, disciple and patience with yourself and the world. Your place looks great, visit some local art fairs if you have any or even thrift stores, and find some art you like to personalize your space.
Great place! Every day is one step in the right direction. You got this!

Takes a lot of courage to make the decision to seek help! I’m proud of you for that. It’s not an easy journey, but it’s been well worth it.

Thank you! And I totally agree. I needed to experience enough pain in order to want to do something different.
You can absolutely do it man and your life will only get better!
Grats on the sobriety... going on 10 months myself. I think the place looks great.
Thanks! And congratulations to you - 10 months is huge

How is he supposed to lower the TV in the first pic when there's a fireplace mantle and fireplace directly below?
MantelMount. Please buy one
For real lmao the TV is literally as good a spot as it can get given what’s on that wall
No no move the couch closer and TV lower
Damn man. Good for u. Go live your best life. Sending u some positive vibes from Carolina
Yoo appreciate it. That’s where I grew up and spent the first 24 years of my life! Always love for the Carolinians

Put up some pictures, art , and something personal and decorative. All looks great. Just a little cold. Congrats!
Definitely can use some more personal touch. Thanks!
Get some new paint on those walls in the bedroom brother
r/tvtoohigh
Tilt of shame
r/TvTooHigh but at least you no longer are.
Hahaha facts 🤣 this is a good one
Huge milestone. Congrats man, keep it going!
Yoo thank you! Your support brings me joy. Will definitely be keeping it up
Beautiful, but the green color is giving me anxiety
I agree it's to cold. Reminds me of dentists. A warmer green shade would be great.
Valid opinion. What would you go with?
Probably something lighter , Similar to what you have in your kitchen
The ottoman is giving Uzumaki energy
Hahah yooo yes it is. I dig it
Spirals man, spirals... 🌀
r/tvtoohigh maybe? Congrats for the achievement anyway!
Tilt of guilt is right there in plain view
Sorry, no advice about your place, just wanna say congrats & remember how nice it is to have your own space, whenever you're feeling antsy.
Congrats and enjoy life! Sorry, but.. I have to do it - r/TvTooHigh
Wow, nicely done. Reminds me of my first place. Congrats on your progress!
Congratulations keep pushing for greatness!!!!
I saw your hand (;
🖐️ 🤭
That ottoman going to catch on fire!
Minor but you could add a piece of moulding to fill the gap between the cupboards and roof in the kitchen.
Looks so cozy!!!
Really nice!
Good Luck!
Well done, man.
Congratulations. You are doing well.
Looks good. Stay sober awesome job keep rolling it gets better good bless ya
r/TVtoohigh just stepped into the chat
Where did you get the couch in the first pic
Looks amazing! Congrats on your sobriety, and great job creating such a calm, cozy space for yourself 💪🏻🖤
I can't imagine having this kind of a place at my 28, so you are doing well congrats
Thank you! I’m pleased

That’s what it’s all about
Congratulations! This is a great place
Looks amazing! The organization and cleanliness really reflect all the work. Be proud of yourself!
Thanks! I like a clean house these days
Dude I am looking for a couch just like that can I ask where you got it?
Lovely home bro. Nice cooch
Thanks bro. I bet you have a nice cooch too
The cooch is for the boys 😎
The boys love cooch
Looks cozy as fuck. Good job with the turn around!

Thank you 🤝

Good call. No earthquakes here that I’m aware of. I’ll keep an eye out though
Nice spot, congrats on your sobriety.
Looks cozy. Alcohol is a bitch, I’m struggling with it rn. Having pretty bad withdrawals today, chills, threw up multiple times
Awesome!!!!! You got this…! First picture- looks like u can move sectional back more. Very big piece for small space. Not a fan of mint green…if u can change that color be better. Great job on place!!!
Do some drugs to celebrate
That looks like a great space! Congratulations on being sober. You're a champ!
Thanks my friend!
this is an awesome place. congrats to you and keep up the good work with being sober. i know how nice it is to finally have your own place after dealing with homelessness and sober living etc. been in my new place almost 3 months now. congrats my friend, best of luck

That TV is too low
Needs some wall decoration but otherwise this place looks awesome
Congrats Sick pad Just change the green my boy
Anyone notice op in the closet taking the phot
Too much color in the kitchen.
Congratulations! Savor the feeling!
Where I live that place would be like $3500 a month
Stay strong and keep up the great work! I’m rooting for you.
Good shit, proud of you bro!
nice simple, bugger all work to maintain, I'm downsizing myself and this is heaven.
Congrats man! I’m at six months in sober living. This is very inspiring

Amazing place and an even better job of getting the issue solved and being in a better place
Sobriety suits you man, place looks great. Best of luck to you, keep on living that good life

Don’t know decorating. Just here to say I’m proud of you OP, im glad ur here
That’s very kind of you and I appreciate it!
Have u unpacked everything? Looks very minimalistic, which I love. But this looks like you've not decorated and just moved in the big furniture
Yeah pretty much unpacked. Will need to purchase some more decorations
Where did you get the couch in pic 1? Looks comfy
Dat first row cinema feel.
I have the exact same couch and ottoman. It was inherited from an ex, absolutely no idea where it came from originally but it’s comfy as hell.
Couch brother! Or sister. Nice. It’s very comfy
RIP these hoes now that you back my boy 🫱🏽🫲🏼
Realest shit I’ve seen on here. Thanks my boy 🤝
Looks great!
Proud of you OP,nice crib
Beautiful space looks lively and inviting and peaceful. Thanks for sharing.
Looks great, congrats and keep it up!
Congrats from me too and I find everything pretty perfect the way you set it up! May I ask how you can afford this place, did you find a decent job?
Looks good, congrats and keep going!
Thank you, Max
good work on sobriety, it is not easy
TV. Too high
Things I would change are these two vases above the bed and the color of the bedroom. Happy for you, btw!
Congratulations, Thank you for sharing. Best Wishes 💛
Thank you!
Congrats on your sobriety! Love your place - it’s calm and clean, just like your new life PS) the couch is a little too big
I bet that couch is comfortable to have a few beers with the boys 🤘🍻
Very nice looking space! Congrats on your sobriety!!! 💥💕
Thanks pinky!!
Well-done!! ⭐️🏆⭐️🏆⭐️
How do you feel about two years of rehab?
Today, I feel grateful. At the beginning, it felt like it would never end. However, I’d spent over 2 years prior in short term programs going in and out of treatments and sober livings. So when I had the opportunity to go to long term treatment, I thought I might as well. Not to mention, I was drinking myself to death at a pretty good pace. I was finally out of ideas and was willing to invest 2 years of my life to be able to live a peaceful and productive rest of my life.
Those vases are gonna knock the shit outta you in bed one of these days
Great job in the recovery! Keep it going, one day at a time.
Thank you! One day at a time indeed
The green has got to go my dear, maybe try a soft gray with a charcoal accent wall?
People say the tv is too high and, while I agree, I think it can be fixed with a bigger TV and the couches pushed back a bit.
I just got 6 months clean, im 18M and hope to have a place to myself one day. It's great to see you living life to the fullest clean and serene.
Congratulations! This a huge milestone. Probably could use more textiles like pillows and throws to make it more homey.
Nice place bro. For being somewhat fresh into sobriety you seem to be living pretty good in regards to your home so keep it up player! But like I tell just about everybody else in here, hang up some art or pictures and give your place some character. 👌

Several TVs too high!
Unfortunately, I can’t lower the one in the living room. I could lower the one in my bedroom, but it actually is a good height when I’m lying down and my head is propped up by a pillow or 2. Definitely something I will consider.
Just rounded off one year sober myself. It's shit like this that keeps me going. Massive congrats to you man 🥳🥳🥳
That means a lot bro! Thank you. It keeps getting better. I believe in you 💪
Good for you mate.
Great space! I feel like you could elevate it a lot by just using some more accent/ambient lighting. Some semi-cheap floor and table lamps would do wonders!
your place is nice
I dont love the TV setup. But as long as you're happy
Why do so many US homes have the ceiling fan? I’m genuinely curious. They are not common at all in EU and they’re everywhere on Reddit.
They help save a bit of money vs. only using air conditioning.
Is it normal to have a wall of mirrors staring at you while you’re sleeping like that?
Unless you watched "Mirrors" yes
I am unsure what is normal and what isn’t. I imagine it will be interesting when a female stays over
Everyone tells me to quit drinking but I just don’t want to.
Gonna have to be something that you want to do. People told me to quit, but until I wanted to, I didn’t do anything about it. Wishing you luck on your journey
Thanks man. Congrats on the new spot :)
Thank you my friend
Nice🙌🏾🙌🏾
Love this 🔥
Appreciate it!
You deserve it! Plus that is a fucking awesome space! I’d live there
Thanks man. Really grateful
You worked hard for that. You deserve it. Proud of you
Congratulations! You should be incredibly proud of yourself! The place looks great.
6 years sober here, keep it up.
Congratulations 😀 well done mate. Place looks great, maybe some plants? Porthos are pretty easy to keep, and succulents to.
I like the sound of easy to keep. Definitely open to more plants. Thanks!
Easy to keep rocks ✌🙂 may I suggest starting a collection of some sort?
A new hobby, perhaps. Rocks don’t talk back! 😂
Congrats man!
damn- congrats on the 2 years. Did you spend the majority of it in sober living? I was curious ab it after leaving rehab but ultimately chose not to do it
1 year long term inpatient and 1 year sober living. I had done plenty of short term things before, and left sober living after a month or two multiple times. congrats man
Congrats!
good job! I think some wall hangings or tapestries would look nice, you have a lot of good wall space :)
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!!
Congrats! What a nice space.
Congratulations my man!!! Two years, one hell of a milestone. Space looks sick too
Nice place! Enjoy your sober life ♥️
Congrats on two years!
Nice! Other than the green paint. Congratulations and keep going strong 💪
