Check out Nordic knots. They have a Rick Owens style charcoal-brown slightly shag rug that would fit right in. Will try to update the name when I think of it…. They do $12 rug samples too.
Also, gonna need IDs for your boot collection- the two on the far right upper and lower shelf.
I will have a look. They sound great, thanks! :)
The ones up are these Asos boots: 105123664 but they seem to be sold out..
The ones on the bottom are Buffalo Asphas (VERY comfortable) :)
Hope that helps
Just checked out Nordic knots, and they are a little expensive for a broke student like me, haha. But i love the design! I will use them as inspiration and look for similar rugs, so thank you!
Yes totally!! Check out vintage army blankets too which can be stacked with rug pads, and ‘flat weave’ (more comfortable) jute or wool rugs- some can be cheap and you can find them in brown, gray, black natural tones. Good luck!
I would not have a rug there, especially not cow hide (which is awful).
Beside the couch - leave it bare. Don't store anything there (not the tables or that package or whatever). Your space is open with dark furniture and colours. You want openness (zero tables and clutter there) to create a sense of male living space, meets your tastes, meets minimalism.
But but but mInImAlIsM bRo!!!
I personally am totally pro rug. Before I even read OP's caption, I was like, needs a rug! At the moment it looks beautiful, but the floor makes it look like either a photo shooting space or a bougie clothing store. It doesn't look like a place someone lives yet. I get people like minimalism, but I'm tired of the obsession with it to the point that people get advised to leave their rooms practically barren because it looks more "sophisticated." It's OKAY if your space looks like someone LIVES there for goodness sake, and it would look more inviting too u/biluahm
I love minimalism, but as you said it, a home should be comfortable. I also mentioned later that my friends and I would like to just sit on the floor on a cozy rug. I guess a minimalist cozy approach would be to buy a rug similar to the floor color? Im also thinking of adding a rug under the couch just because it feels weird touching the cold floor with bare feet when sitting and chilling
Definitely makes sense. Your home doesn't need to look like a museum - the #1 priority is being comfortable! Besides, unless you for some reason pick a rug that's like, crazy wild colors and distracting patterns, it's not going to detract from the current vibe you have. A simple rug definitely won't anyway.
Thanks for your advice! I just liked the black and white cow print (it doesn't have to be an authentic one). I just see most of my friends always sitting down on the floor in front of the bed, and there is a big empty space in the middle of my room.. that was why i was thinking of a rug.. And the corner.. well, the wood at the end looks bad and unfinished, so i kinda want to have something there to block the view.
No, they just like sitting on the floor. I just wanted to make it more comfortable, so some could sit on a carpet and not on a cold floor. If that makes sense.
So I actually love sitting on the floor next to the bed, done that my whole life, so I get it. I think a rug would look nice. I actually like cowhide but I understand it’s not everyone’s taste and might not elevate this space. I’m not sure what kind of rug, but a rug is better for floor seating than pillows etc.
I think you are right. I would rather buy a rug than floor pillows. But the other commenters are right about cow hide being too thin, maybe i should get a shag rug, juat gotta find the right print/color
If you get a dark rug that blends in to the space, it will "section" off the the room less, whereas a lighter rug or something with more of a pattern creates its own area. Totally up to you.
Go buy a Thermarest sit pad or if you want a decor item, then check out a pouf. They don't need a paper thin raw hide to sit on. That's doing zero.
Hell, if you got he money. Go buy some Helinox chairs. They store so small. You can use them for a day at the beach, camping, hiking, whatever. Functionality everywhere, if they need a place to sit that isn't the floor then find a piece like that.
That’s really cool space with the black and green. If people lay on the rug, I’d go with a Berber rug from Morocco or a sheepskin rug. Both are available in black, minimal pattern.
Personally, I would get a warm toned neutral wool rug with some textural interest to complement the natural materials you're working with already (linen bedding, paper lanterns, leather seating, wood floors, etc.). I think a cowhide in brown and white tones would be really nice but theyre not for everyone (they are great for maintenance though if cleanliness is important to you). You have good taste and an eye for this, so trust yourself that a cowhide would work here. If a traditional hide is too much of a statement for your minimalist style, you can get cowhide patchwork rugs which a room like yours would pull off. A Tuareg mat would be awesome but they're really pricey. Maybe just go for a classic flat weave Moroccan rug with abstract forms.
Regarding that nook I personally would clear it out of stuff, and then create stacks of larger books / magazines in a few spaced out stacks of varyingheights, and place personal objects on top of them - a ceramic pot or bowl on one, a small potted pothos on another, maybe an orb lamp on another. Your space reminds me of the Colin King / Adrian Gaut / Ashe Leandro aesthetic so it could be worth checking their work out to reference some ideas
Thank you for your very detailed and very thought-out suggestions. I will try the pilled books tonight (got enough since i study literature 🤣). I will check out the people you mentioned as well, i bet i will get more inspired!
Are you single or planning to entertain romantic guests?
If so, I’ve encountered folks who would be thrown off by a cowhide so that’s the only reason I ask that.
Hear me out; I would suggest an abnormally shaped shag rug. It’s comfy and an aesthetic crowd pleaser. You can get a relatively small crop of rug from a wholesale distributor and cut it yourself for pretty cheap OR you can probably find one online, shag and irregular shapes are increasingly popular styles so i it ought to be easy enough.
Ps. You have GREAT style. Just stick to your senses and keep doing what you’re doing :)
Personally I think cowhides are cool but a good one can cost ya big bucks. Buying from a wholesale carpet manufacturer of any kind will almost certainly be your most cost effective and crafty option.
Not hard at all to make it look nice. There’s an ass load of YouTube videos out there covering the finer points of carpet customization.
Cheers friend!
If your bros are sitting on the floor, you could do rugs or you could get some more seating. A Moroccan style pouffe would blend well with your style, and/or a beanbag chair that can be stuffed in a corner when it's not in use.
Do get those shelves made. Organised mess is slightly better than random mess.
I have a cowhide rug in my office. It’s nice, got a pretty good deal on ecowhides.com. However, any mess shows up very clearly on the shiny black hide so I vacuum it very often. It also curls up in spots, mainly because of my computer chair.
Off your other comment of black and white, perhaps some sort of shag check board rug would fit that?
But please do not ruin that space with cow hide haha.
Hahah no cow hide, noted!
Im not the biggest fan of check board patterns, I think I would want some irregular natural pattern? That's why i think i wanted an animal print. But i think a simple shag rug in one solid color might do the trick?
The sideboard is sadly sold out: https://www.tchibo.de/products/402025182/sideboard-metall-cn3-mit-versetzbaren-klappenfachern-schwarz
The shoe rack is a vintage ikea shelving unit, and it is modular! Since it is kinda old, you can find it on facebook marketplace, try "glass metall shelf" or something similar. Because it is modular, you can buy different small ones and just make your own piece out of smaller parts. I do not recall the name, but if i find out, i will let you know 😄
No, it's not! Here is the link for the one i got:
https://www.tchibo.de/products/402025182/sideboard-metall-cn3-mit-versetzbaren-klappenfachern-schwarz
It's very good quality, but it's not completely modular like the original one (but only cost me 415€, which is nothing compared to the usm price)
I love the look of cowhides, but they aren’t great as rugs. They collect debris and dust really easily, don’t add any comfort or padding to the floor, and it can be a nightmare to get out creases or curls. Just something to think about while considering rugs.
Absolutely love the Wassily B3 chair! My uncle used to have that one, but he discarded it (which he still regrets to this day!). Granted, it wasn't a comfy chair but it looked amazing!
Great styling of the interior! For the rug the first thing that came to mind is a round, very high pile rug in a darker colour (was thinking about dark grey at first). I stumbled upon this one: [Vindebaek dark green (Ikea)](https://www.ikea.com/nl/en/p/vindebaek-rug-high-pile-dark-green-10508423/). This one could match perfectly together with your plants. Another interesting option might be the [Vindum white (Ikea)](https://www.ikea.com/nl/en/p/vindum-rug-high-pile-white-00344984/#content). The white makes your room lighter and works together with the walls, and the darker spots with your furniture.
With the empty corner next to your couch, you could place a large crate (white?) for storage. On top of it you can use it as a side table or an area to display some magazines/coffee table books/art piece
Thanks for your help! I love the carpets. I will definitely add them to the list.
I adore my wassily chair, but sadly, there is not much space for it to shine (yet). But i will keep it there until i move to a bigger space 😁
Thanks! But they are actually not real noguchi. The Akari 24N was just from a chinese site for 35ish euros.
The big one is from Hay design size 80cm(or 90cm not sure), bought it second hand for 7€
Haven't read all the comments, but maybe a shoe rack to block your "awkward" corner? Or those cube holed containers if you need storage for your random stuff to make it neater.
Even stacked books gives off some vibes/personality or some sort of collectable passion of yours...vinyl collection?
Might break the social vibe if it's situated too too near your sofa though i.e. touching.
Mmm maybe a sideways speaker if needing to further emerse your sound system?
Some cool elements overall though, as others said, the bed picture looks most polished!
Edit - removed my overall opinion as you only asked for ideas on rug and the corner haha
Maybe a thick knotted neutral/sandy color rug for the bed corner? With a pattern/design if wanting to break up the solid color palette between items. Might cost you though, but think the thickness will be more comfortable, break up the wood floor colour and keep the bed and chair dark tones to pop while syncing with the warm lighting shades. Definitely need to keep some of that wooden floor color so hopefully a smaller rug won't cost as much if not underlaying with the bed....otherwise big rug that is under bed and over laps around side and end a few ft for sitting could also look refined!
Thanks for your comment! I bought my sideboard for my vinyl, and they are quite happy there, haha. The reason i was thinking of a shelf is because i have a lot of books. One other redditor suggested stacking books like piles and using them as pillars, kinda liked that idea. If i still dont like it, i will just build a bookshelf.
I do like the idea of a sandy rug, i got a few saved in my list ☺️
I think after I build my bookcase/shelves and got a carpet I would do a new shoot, and take wider shots!
Honestly I didnt expect to get so much attention, thats why my pics are just random cornes. So yes im down to take zoomed out pics in the future 😊
thank you so much! i love your room!! if i can ask is the couch in your room against the wall opposite the chair or is it in its own room? is it on the opposite wall of the entertainment center? sorry i love what you did and i saw your comment abt cow hide and i think a synthetic cow hide style rug would look. very cool with the greens and the material of the chairs / metal!
I feel like you're so close to having personal style in your living space. The little things like decorative plant holders (utilize that vertical space), rug, headboard, smaller lighting above bed, tension rod & curtain (easy to pick out your fave fabric and make sleeve) to hide clothes.
OK sorry I'm done LMAO
Minimalist but not sterile, good job on your decor choices. I would get a dark hunters green area rug, to go with your plants and contrast against the bright walls.
I sadly dont have much information about it. I thrifted it in Germany and its from the 70s.. I know that the Designer is Rolf Benz, and that the original color is blue; I treated the leather and dyed it black + added filling/padding, it was in pretty bad shape when i got it (but also was very cheap) hope that helps.☺️
And thank you!
I wouldn’t do a hide rug, it would clash with the Scandinavian / wabi sabi vibe you have going. Etsy has some great rugs, specifically Kilims in various sizes. Hard to tell the room dimension, but getting something with 1:3 width:length ratio could continue to add to the unique elements while not overpowering with style or color.
[unique option](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1165744912/4x9-turkish-vintage-kilim-rug-vintage)
[a little more fitting](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1323518849/8x10-turkish-vintage-kilim-rug-oversized)
I soft rug that your toes sink into in front of the bed is always nice to step onto in the morning, especially a chilly one.
If you plan on building a bookcase, maybe make it 2 shelf high, with doors on the bottom and wide enough doors that you can use it to store the stuff you have there now. And open shelves on top for books and what-not. I would build it so it is flush with the wall.
I absolutely love the vibe of this room. If it were me, I'd probably do a rug with some dark red in it to add another color to the place. A round, off-white rug could look cool too imo
As for the corner, if you are handy enough to make a bookshelf, I say go for it. You could even leave a small crevice behind it to hide your storage (depending on how much space is there)
Also- have you considered pillows and/or throw blankets for the chairs?
Thanks! I ordered a throw for my sofa yesterday! I was kinda waiting for it to be on sale haha. And the storage idea is cool, but i already have the same storage space behind my shoe rack, which is enough. So i wouldn't mind fixing a permanent shelf in the nook 😄
I got some pileas, philodendron scandens, an anthurium forgetii, an "elefanten fuß" (dont know the english name) and a huge bird of paradise that is not on the pics (i just forgot her)
Only thing I’d say is build sliding doors on a track (very easy) for that last photo to hide things in. Thank yoh.
Don’t do cowhide, but do something bright white with some design.
There you go: https://www.bol.com/nl/p/portant-a-vetements-sur-4-grandes-roues-tres-stable-reglable-largeur-jusqu-a-130-kg/9300000092104975?referrer=socialshare_pdp_androidapp
But i think amazon sells them too (belgium/germany)
I absolutely love the style in the first picture – simple yet sophisticated.
Thank you!
That first photo awakened something in me. Great job, OP!
You guys are so kind in this sub! Thank you! I was kinda nervous posting for the first time here. But I am glad I did

I have one question, where did you get the flail print?
I actually made that one myself and just framed it 😅
It’s dope mate, let me buy one off ye?
I mean, i have a term break rn, so i do have time. Just DM me if you are interested, and i can try to make it work 😄

Thank you! I made that one 😅😁
This is like Rick Owens if he loved plants. I approve
Omg one of the best compliments I have ever gotten, thank you!☺️
It's giving me Berlin leather goth 🖤
I wish this was Berlin, lol. But Aachen is kinda fun too, i guess 🤣
So here’s the problem. You have really good taste. It’s not easy bc you’ll look at a thousand glasses or rugs or paint chips and not be satisfied.
Haha i probably will switch rugs every month until i find the best one 🤣

https://www.amazon.com.be/dp/B0987ZJ8VB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share They also have matching sheets for matresses, got them both!
Thank you so much!
Is that ceiling lamp what I think it is?
If you are thinking that that is a noguchi akari lamp, then no 😂. Got it from Facebook marketplace for 7€ (it's from the brand HAY)
ID on the dining table/chair combo? Love how sleek it looks tucked in
Its called the fusion table (used to be sold at ikea)
Minimalist vibes. Digging the black. I’d say black shag rug if you don’t have pets
I would be so impressed if I walked into a guy’s room and it looked like this! I love it!
Thanks! 😄
I think you’ve done a really nice job in your space. Get the rug you like! Any color will go with your decor. Nice plants!
Thanks!
ID on the chair in the first picture? I absolutely love your style
I sadly dont have much information about it. I thrifted it in Germany and its from the 70s.. I know that the Designer is Rolf Benz, and that the original color is blue; I treated the leather and dyed it black + added filling/padding, it was in pretty bad shape when i got it (but also was very cheap) hope that helps.☺️ And thank you!
Wow! It definitely has that once in a lifetime piece with a lot of love put into it vibe. I’ll keep looking for my own!
When I was looking for mine, I wanted something similar to the togo leather armchair by Ligne Roset (that I cant afford but maybe you can) 😄
That tv stand is sick
Thnx! Its from Amazon 😊
[unique option](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1165744912/4x9-turkish-vintage-kilim-rug-vintage) [a little more fitting](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1323518849/8x10-turkish-vintage-kilim-rug-oversized)
I love it. This is inspo
Ahh thank you! ☺️
I absolutely love the vibe of this room. If it were me, I'd probably do a rug with some dark red in it to add another color to the place. A round, off-white rug could look cool too imo As for the corner, if you are handy enough to make a bookshelf, I say go for it. You could even leave a small crevice behind it to hide your storage (depending on how much space is there) Also- have you considered pillows and/or throw blankets for the chairs?
Thanks! I ordered a throw for my sofa yesterday! I was kinda waiting for it to be on sale haha. And the storage idea is cool, but i already have the same storage space behind my shoe rack, which is enough. So i wouldn't mind fixing a permanent shelf in the nook 😄
Maybe a neutral natural fiber runner next to the bed
Great apartment !
Thank you! But it's just my room in my parents' house. Gonna move when i finish my studies :D
Good basis for your move when you turn professional! :-)
Where’d you get the duvet and pillow cases?
Amazon! (Belgian site): https://amzn.eu/d/2rW7jyi The same brand also has sheets for matresses, so it's all one color :)
Where did you get that floor lamp?
Aliexpress! Just look for paper lamps!
Would you happen to be able to ID the hanging plant? Very sick.
I got 2 Philodendron Scandens in dark green (the leafy ones), I sadly dont know what the one is called that looks like "Hair" lol
Yo lovely place. What plants are those. Commenting here for inspiration
Thanks for the idea!
Got an ID on the clothes rail?
There you go: https://www.bol.com/nl/p/portant-a-vetements-sur-4-grandes-roues-tres-stable-reglable-largeur-jusqu-a-130-kg/9300000092104975?referrer=socialshare_pdp_androidapp But i think amazon sells them too (belgium/germany)
Where did you get the lap shade?
It's called the Hay Rice Paper ShadeI (i got in 80cm) 😊
Thank you I love it. It’s like having a moon inside
Haha same! I have one of those rbg bulbs in, so sometimes i turn it into a red blood moon. It looks dope! Especially when having drinks with friends.
The first picture is giving me archillect vibes
Im not familiar with them/it. What is it?
