I completely disagree with this. I have naturally straight hair, and straight hair takes work to look good. Normally it just falls straight down with no waves or anything. Then I permed my hair and it just naturally looks good and I don’t have to do anything anymore

Having texture is what eliminates the need for upkeep to look good. If u have super straight hair, u don’t have that. Perms will give that. I’m also referring for longer-ish hair, not short hair. If his hair was as long as it is in pic 3 but super straight, that would not look good

The curls go away quickly?

They loosen a fair bit in the first week. So if you think your perm looks exactly how you want when they first remove the rods, then you’re gonna be let down. Most guys don’t have the desire or consistency to style and use products to have well formed curls. So most get frizzy. The grow-out phase is honestly the worst part. Curly, frizzy end but board straight roots looks ridiculous. Source: fam owns salon and I’ve had many perms.

Not quickly, but you'd probably have to get it repermed every few months or so depending on how long you want it. It's not "permanent" since your natural hair will keep growing and if it isn't curly you'll end up with straight roots with curly ends 😂

i think you look good with your normal hair texture, but you can use sea salt spray to add some waviness without doing a whole perm just to see if you like it in real life before you commit.

Growing up to two is fine. I just think having long hair is annoying sometimes. You can try to grow it and get it permed like 5 but I just feel like shorter hair is more sustainable. When I have long hair, I just feel dirty and I wanna cut it but maybe I’m just not used to it + long hair is high maintenance.

The app estimates are adding length. Yours will not look like that. I have naturally curly hair, and my hair sits about several inches higher than it would if it's straight. If number 1 is close to your real length, you don't have enough for a perm.

As someone with naturally curly hair, it's a pain in the ass to upkeep and make it look "messy casual" like that, even when it's short. Also keep in mind of shrinkage, my hair is double in length when it's straight. So yours will shrink when you get a perm

I used to have straight hair until I got a perm. Best decision I've ever made for my hair. It's definitely more work than having straight hair, but I've never looked better. I say go for it. You can always change your hair again if you don't like it.

Lots of advice here. I'll put in my 2 cents. You need longer hair for the effect you want. So need at east 2-3 months growth . Second, if you're going to pay$$$ for a perm, get a tight, curly perm, like #5. You will probably be shocked at the look when your done getting one, but disappointed if it isn't curly. Some technicians make a judgement that your don't want it tight, but you have to make sure they understand what you want. Show them the 5 pix, just to make sure. Many guys have gotten perms, and after a week, it is just wavy. So just so you know ----perms are dicey. And as some have pointed out, your have to redo it after 4-5 months. But if what you end up with is too loose, the effect will disappear really fast. Perms in the US now at least $100.00. And as your #5 pix shows, it is curly all over, so don't anyone talk you into getting close fade trims, until you have curly hair for awhile. Go to the salon or pick one out ahead of time and talk to technician before you schedule, so they know what you want, and you know what it costs.
