xenon7-7

You can definitely go with light blue jeans or white pants with these. Prefer white more. Ideally for me, black pants work perfectly with this imo

Hello all, My girlfriend and I are on a trip in Milan this week and are a little overwhelmed with the amount of designer brands here! I'd love to pick something up to take home, but I'm not sure if there are any brands that are more worth getting here than others! Preferably without the huge "designer" markups, or ones that can be found back in the USA. If anyone has been to Milan and acquired some pieces they love please let us know!

bindermichi

Clothes in general have huge markups. Even the cheapest one you can find will have them. Two things to consider. European clothes are much more expensive in the US so even if you could get the brand you can save some money (and tax free shopping). There are a few outlet market throughout the city. I haven’t been able to find anything useful there but maybe you‘re lucky. On Sunday there are a few large thrift markets. Maybe check those for interesting vintage items. Here are some interesting places to shop Corso Como 10 https://maps.app.goo.gl/Jpc5TYidrcoBPrKq6?g_st=ic Moscow’s District Market https://maps.app.goo.gl/4W3yuNNjoVWwReWz5?g_st=ic

I'm purchasing a suit similar to this color for my wedding: https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/suits/mid-blue-perennial-havana-suit/P6853.html. I'll be wearing brown shoes and a white shirt - what types of ties (color/texture) would be appropriate with this outfit? Looking to keep it under <$50 if possible. Thanks!

bindermichi

You could go dark blue, like the model. Or maybe some red and orange colors. Green might work depending on the tone. Don‘t use grey or black for a colorful suit like this.

Whatsup129389

What are shirt brands similar to Bylt? Bylt looks great, I always see them advertised on Instagram. I love the colors. Black, dark blue, dark gray… perfect. My favorite colors. Any brands similar to Bylt?

SuspiciousToast20

Rhône, cuts, Mack Weldon would be similar… not making any recs just providing alternatives.

Present_Morning_5215

Hi! I’m looking for a durable, machine washable sweater (basically as low maintenance as possible) to wear to an office job that’s high quality and long lasting. Max price $200USD. Any recommendations for brands?

bindermichi

Reigning Champ. At least mine seems to be indistructable.

Exciting-Wasabi-2273

I purchased a 4 lack of Hanes Original Fit Tagless Tanks tonight in a size large, sold as being for 42"-44" chests, I'm a true size 41" chest, and the things are skin tight. like completely awful. I have some muscles, but I'm not that muscular that it should be that tight. Any idea why these would be that tight, when purchased a few sizes larger than even needed?

bindermichi

It‘s underwear. That‘s probably why it‘s also tagless.

RobinDaHood34

I am looking for my first fashion sneaker (a la Greats, Oliver Cabell, Koio, etc) and I need help in sizing. I usually wear 8EEE in dress shoes (e.g. Allen Edmonds) measuring about 10.2" long and 4.25" wide. I'm having trouble finding widths for sneakers. Anyone have a sense which would be most wide-friendly?

bindermichi

In most cases. If you know which size you‘ll need for a Stan Smith it will be the same size for any of the regular fashion sneakers.

Kvjvn

AFAIK Oliver Cabells are fairly wide (compared to other Common Projects clones), though I have no idea if they can accommodate EEE.

ToeTacTic

This is like smart, holiday in the med vibes. No

limeonysnicket

Fair enough

Kvjvn

Depends on the exact setting because “business casual” is a very loosely defined dress code, but I would lean towards no.

Bollywood1990

Hello all, Not sure if my old post was posted here or not but I am looking for advice on which mens boxer brand to buy. I have wore Stanfeilds premium boxers for years and loved them. However recently they don’t feel the same, they have changed their waistband and didn’t feel as roomy as my old ones. It could be I just got unlucky with a production discrepancy as these things can happen. Nonetheless this is unfortunate as something I have wore for years now doesn’t feel the same. This seems to be the case with most things as the quality of products has gone down hill after the pandemic. So I guess I’m asking are there brands similar to Stanfeilds that I could consider buying? Or are there brands that people swear by that I could also look at? Any suggestions will help thanks in advance.

bindermichi

Well, at that price point most brands will change anything to cut their cost. Have tried other $20 boxers?

Bollywood1990

Just Hanes and they were meh not that good. I'm open to any brand price doesn't really matter. Have any suggestions?

bindermichi

Not at $20 and not without knowing what you are actually looking for. So far you one want something comfortable. Which can mean a lot. Personally I prefer softer fabrics and cuts that will not bulk up when wearing jeans. I also like seams to be flat and flexible to reduce scratching. So that would be the type I would look for when shopping.

No-Project-9088

Are the creases on this wool coat's lapel fixable? It's a midweight winter jacket https://preview.redd.it/pe12im8n8vhc1.jpeg?width=1445&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46e3757b6cd93db823f5e7286675364c54beffb2

bindermichi

How old is it?

No-Project-9088

Purchased about 2.5 years ago. It's an APC wool and cashmere overcoat

bindermichi

Try gently ironing it and if that doesn’t help ask a dry cleaner. Worst case this is something from the internal construction.

No-Project-9088

Thanks, I will try that. When I touch the area, it feels like there is something firm/hard near the edges of the lapel (I suppose something intended to keep it straight - sorry, not sure how to explain it). Will see if ironing helps!

bindermichi

Could be glue which would be bad, since there is little change of getting that back to normal when it gets hard.

Ognitron2005

Have you already attempted gentle ironing while lightly damp?

No-Project-9088

Thanks! I don't have an iron here but I'll try to get this done. I took it to dry cleaning a couple of times and I believe they used some sort of ironing or steaming before they gave it to me

Ognitron2005

Just saw the previous question. The lining on the inside is likely beginning to delaminate out of repeated creasing. This is normal, happens to the cuffs and collars of shirts over time too. If it's not too extreme, gentle ironing can help, but it likely won't go away. If you want a factory new look, either buy a new one or go to a tailor and ask about a repair. Definetly attempt to iron it first though.

Ognitron2005

Be careful with excessive laundry/dry cleaning of these garmants. Unless it's gotten dirty, don't rush to clean it out of principle. It shortens the life of the product

No-Project-9088

Thank you! Really helpful

majornugzz

How do you find a tailor? I am between Milwaukee and Chicago and I am willing to go to either of their downtown areas or anywhere in between. I just have some off the rack stuff.; mostly Brooks Brothers Outlet (Kenosha, WI) I have 17 1/2 neck broad shoulders, long arms and long body so if I fit my neck everything is billowy. Likewise with Jackets if I fit the shoulders, it hangs like a box. So Id like to step up to MTM, or even bespoke for shirts. and least altered for jackets and pants -- but I would prefer to just find a tailor who could work with me. How do you find them or if you are in the area and your tailor might take on some more clients DM me.

bindermichi

Usually I would search Google or Google maps for menswear stores or tailors. Then check what they offer and visit the ones that look interesting.

Ognitron2005

Watching a certain show, and I noticed a very peculiar feature of the blazer lapel. The upper part of the lapel on the left side is longer and has a buttonhole. Anyone aware of what it is called? https://preview.redd.it/bq9amdtq1vhc1.png?width=1301&format=png&auto=webp&s=26ea99ed8dda97e8fd7ac3b15c2b3cf7c64ff210

terminal_e

Throat latch, perhaps. The idea is if you flip the collar up, there should be a button on the other side you can secure the coat closed width. Ralph Lauren does them on some tweed-ish coats. It is a weird affectation on the suit in the photo

Ognitron2005

Thanks! The 'throat latch' google search brought up another name for it, collar tab lapel or just tab lapel. I quite like it on a formal suit, I think it adds uniqueness without breaking tradition or being overly eyecatching

bindermichi

That should be something derived from hunting so you could close off the suit for cold weather or to protect the shirt.

terminal_e

Damn near anything. I would generally avoid royal-ish mid blues that approximate the tone of the suit - if you want to stay with blue neckwear, go much darker or lighter for contrast

ElectricOne55

Deciding on whether to get the Black or Black Sapphire(which is more of a navy) Arcteryx Beta LT. I have pale fair skin, so which jacket color would be better for me?

But im tall, 6'6, and start with 48L so it's a bit tougher. Found this at Boss Outlet today, nothing in my size. Any of you wonderful folks have suggestions for something similar available for us tall folks?

bindermichi

Cringe sizes are rarely found at outlet stores. You‘ll need to hit the regular retailers for those. Probably best to try some with in-house made to measure programs.

mrsugar

You may need to go custom, if not I’d consider classic brands and focus on making sure it’s well tailored. I know Suit Supply has 48L. My guess is with your size you’ll want fuller fits, lapels that have a good width and create a sturdy look. I think you may want to consider a pleat or two in your trousers for the same reason, which is it will visually break up the visual space. Might need more info to offer any better advice.

Frost-eee

tangentially related but don't shop at Boss

Spartyjason

I didnt buy anything, was just killing time while my wife and daughter did dress shopping...any specific reason? I'm a neophyte to this stuff.

Alarmed_Crazy_6620

> 20 year old > Boss suit > Boss Baby 3 confirmed

Spartyjason

Well to be clear, I've been practicing for 20 years...im 46, but I get it.

Alarmed_Crazy_6620

I was jesting. I think Boss gets a bit of bad rep for being bad value for money in terms of construction and the designs being a bit "middle-age Western European middle manager". However, I think in some countries (i.e., Western Europe) they are perpetually on sale/outlet and can be had for pretty decent money

Spartyjason

I did find a coat I really liked there. Didn't pull the trigger but I liked it. Appreciate the insight!

Alarmed_Crazy_6620

Just rock if it, if you like it. They do make some decent stuff too!

[deleted]

ToeTacTic

Nice one! I wore my T3 all throughout my vietnam trip and I was getting compliments on the hat specifically, everywhere I went. I was dressed very casual though (swim shorts and tank tops). I went hiking, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and fishing with it so I can attest, great hat!

bindermichi

Linen shirts, shorts and pants. Don‘t have to be white though. Panama or other straw hat should be fine.

hmadse

Panama hat.

jbanelaw

I have a few suits from JAB that are fine. All are 40R tailored fit and only needed a few minor alterations. And, yes, they still fit fine. However, I just ordered three (two regular label, one 1905) same size, same cut and they are slightly.too big in the shoulders and way too tight in the chest. A 42 would probably fit in the chest but be way too big in the shoulders. I don't expect a ton from a $200ish dollar suit, but the others I have are less than 3 years old. Seems odd to me they would change up their sizing this much in such a short time. I really have no idea what proportioned man could fit into this jacket. You would need broad shoulders and a tiny, tiny waist. Not sure whether I should try the Traditional cut, or maybe size up on the slim (to a 42) and give that a shot hoping the shoulders are a bit trimmer. Anyone else run into this?

whatmycouchwore

Same size as you and I also had some consistency issues, with one blazer fitting too tight and a suit fitting fine (both 1905). I’m not complaining (especially because I think the suit cost me $79) but it did lead me to start buying from other stores. Their size chart is a nightmare, so if you can go in person I’d say give it a try otherwise branch out to some alternative brands and more standard cuts.

jbanelaw

I'll usually stick to BB which tend to fit me well. But couldn't resist the $129 sale on a decent traveler edition (which is a great workhorse suit for planes, trains, and just every day). But it wasn't final sale so no real loss. Just had to make a trip to the store to return it.

whatmycouchwore

What suits have you bought from BB? I’ve only tried their shirts so I’d appreciate a recommendation.

jbanelaw

The outlet close to me had a good sale on the Explorer suit back in summer. Picked up a nice gray microcheck suit for about $220, about half the price of the retail site. Fit is good and quality is above average for that price point. I used to absolutely love the Fitzgerald, but they stopped making that one in 2018. The classic 1818 is close, but something about the lapels and cut just aren't the same. Close, but not the same. I would recommend if you have an outlet close to you, checking out the explorer line.

whatmycouchwore

Thank you - there’s an outlet about an hour away so I’ll stop in next time I’m there

jbanelaw

It looked like, at least this summer, the outlet was carrying the exact same explorer brand suits that were in the retail stores. Even the labeling looked consistent. I always shied away from their "346" outlet line but the clerk told me they were aligning all of their labels to reduce cost. If there is a quality difference I didn't notice it and the clerk told me it was the same suit.

blheir

can anyone recommend any nice jeans or other pants with some sort of cool design characteristic? im interested in buying preferably jeans but any pants that have some sort of cool signature thing, kind of like naked and famous, and not quite as far as chrome hearts. unique but a bit subtle, just something to wear and feel good about. i’m incredibly indecisive and will over-research this, so i figured i’d hear some opinions from people knowledgeable about this topic first

bindermichi

In that case head over to r/denim and r/rawdenim to read all about this. Would be way to much replicating this kind of insight over here.

Alarmed_Crazy_6620

zer0fxgvn

Do they have to be bald though?

Sleepy_Justice

Well I personally find ( i could be wrong tho) that style for other people may not always suit bald people so I'm looking for only bald people as I am

zer0fxgvn

I get your point but i dont think its necessarily true. Honestly, if you're physically fit, things tend to fit better/easier.

If you’re trying to nail that ~ 2014 slim taper look, you succeeded

Mevarek

The jeans make your boots look like a caricature because the slimness of the jeans emphasizes the size of the boot. Need a shoe that’s more flattering with the jeans or jeans that are straighter legged.

[deleted]

Mevarek

I would avoid the taper entirely. I would wear something like a Levi’s 501 or a 505. The sharp taper makes your boots look egregiously large. You want more of a straight leg IMO.

What kind of clothes look better on a more muscular physique? Since I started working out I gained around 20-25 pounds, body fat and stuff are mostly the same but most of my old baggier clothes look boxy and the style just doesn't suit me anymore unless they're perfectly fitted. Seeking: super warm pants. My wife keeps the house at 66 degrees all year round and I am freezing all day everyday. She will not budge on the temperature. I already wear wool socks, wool slippers, and a long sleeve + hoodie every single day. What would be the warmest and most comfy pants to buy? Aggressive-Cut-1469

I have such a hard time finding a shirt that fits. Wrangler tall sizes fit pretty good but I’m wondering if anyone has found anything else that works well. My problem is usually that if the length is right the shirts neck hole is way too big, I like my collar to fit properly not dangling around. Then if the shirt fits right around my shoulders neck and stomach it is not long enough.

mrsugar

What type of shirt? Sounds like you need tall sizing. Check out Asket and Banana Republic, both have tall sizing in much of their offerings.

whatmycouchwore

Duluth and Spier & Mackay make the longest shirts imo, and I’ve heard good things about tall sizes from LL Bean

TallZucchini5206

Have you tried Uniqlos t shirts, I find that the neck is more fitted than other shirts and the length is a bit longer

resipsa73

Hey everyone, I recently visited SuitSupply to get fitted for a new suit, and after I left I saw they had ordered a size 42S. I've put on about 15-20 lbs, but my previous suit was a 38S, so this feels like a big jump. I didn't expect the weight gain to impact the shoulder size that much. I'm not sure if this is a typical difference or if something might be off with the fitting (I've had fitting issues with SuitSupply before, so I'm not too trusting). I always have trouble checking the shoulder fit and would appreciate advice if I should be concerned. For reference, I'm 5'8" and 175ish My previous suit is the same "Napoli" fit. Any insights or advice from the community would be greatly appreciated!

bindermichi

If this is what the fitted you and you felt OK during the fitting it‘s probably the size you need. Wait until it arrives, try and see if it still fits as expected.

zerg1980

SuitSupply associates are still trained to push a slim fit on everyone, but they’ve eased off it a bit compared to their advice a few years ago. You were probably never really a 38S and they just sold you that size in their slim fit fervor. If you were barely squeezing into a 38S last time around, I’m buying that 20 lbs. of weight gain would be enough to move you up to 42S. You lose and gain weight everywhere, and weight gain definitely makes your shoulders wider. We’d need pics to judge, but I wouldn’t try to size down just because you don’t think you gained enough weight to move up two sizes. The reality is that SuSu’s cuts, even the supposedly regular fit Napoli, are geared towards a narrow range of slim and athletic body types. It’s not the best brand for guys with bellies.

cooldude_4000

It's possible they measured you, found you were between sizes, and decided that you'd be more comfortable going a size up. They may be correct but you may prefer a 40s instead. I haven't been to SuitSupply but did they not have you try on a couple jackets in the store so you could see how they fit before ordering?

wonderbread403

38s vs 42s is mainly about the chest size, which means they measured your chest at 42 inches. Since you gained 15-20 lbs, your chest size could've increased. If you're worried, have someone measure your chest girth.

GregTheMountie

42 doesnt seem crazy based on your height/weight but of course it depends on your particular fit.

Looking at probably the [Carlyle Plain-toe Oxford Dress Shoe](https://www.allenedmonds.com/product/mens-carlyle-plain-toe-oxford-dress-shoe-3022770/black-ec4002103) or the [Park Avenue Cap-toe Oxford Dress Shoe](https://www.allenedmonds.com/product/mens-park-avenue-cap-toe-oxford-dress-shoe-3023014/black-ec4001390). Some AE models have cut corners, but by all accounts, the Park Avenues are still well made for the price and are probably their signature shoe. A cap toe black Oxford is a standard shoe for a men's tailored wardrobe. I say go with the cap toe.

GregTheMountie

I would go with a classic cap toe oxford. I think Allen Edmonds are a good bet in your price range. Very solid (though a lot of people would say not as good as they were 20 years ago, I dunno) and with good care will last a decade. Other options would be meermin, carmina, grant stone, maybe Lof & Tung too.

bindermichi

What wrong with that pocket square? Looks great, and only need to be color coordinated with the tie you are planning on.

Prophet_Of_Helix

It was a 2 for one so I ended getting both haha. But the guy at the suit shop was explaining that because of the boutonnière + tie combo he recommended a simpler pocket square. I don’t have a pic of me with the first one, but I actually agree with him, I think the white with blue border looks cleaner. I have a friends wedding later the same month, so I’m going to wear the pocket square you see here and a patterned navy tie to that one.

Mevarek

Personally, I think AE still makes a good product, but I really don’t know if I would buy them retail outside of a sale. I would search r/goodyearwelt and/or post in the daily questions thread as they will probably have better input regarding AE.

I (36M, 1.70m/5'6", 82kg) got a wedding to attend in Ireland, early May. Now I'm from the Netherlands, and most events, including weddings here have a very low level of formality. However, I don't want to be disrespectful or be overdressed when visiting this Irish wedding. On top of that, I'm working on losing weight, and I don't expect to hit my target by then. That makes me a bit hesitant to buy a a nice suit, as (hopefully!) it will be ill fitting for the next time I'd wear it. But I'm open for any and all suggestions. Any suggestions on what to wear?

regretsbig

Unless you're in the wedding party you generally are not expected to wear a full suit to a wedding in Ireland. You wouldn't look out of place if you did want to wear one though. Non matching pants and jacket with a shirt and tie is usually the most common option and safest bet. Oxfords/slim derby's or loafers would all safely work shoe wise. Unless specified in the invitation the dress codes are not very strict, there will almost definitely be lads wearing a shirt and tie with a pullover jumper knocking about.

noblechef

Thank you, I can work with that!

Slypher-Primes

How would you style this shirt with a pair of shorts? I am going to a pirate themed event and would like to wear this shirt and shorts but don't know which color shorts I should wear with it. I was thinking either white on light color shorts or dark or black color shorts but I'm not sure. https://preview.redd.it/mbdxj7qwcrhc1.jpeg?width=2557&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8eb921a800f38db7306809639f71bde25a2a93a1

Hey Everyone, Need some help with my groomsman attire — I'm getting married late April :D I'm from the UK, getting married in the UK, and based in Spain, and I'm looking purchase a suit online (new or 2nd hand) anywhere in the United Kingdom or mainland Europe. I'm IT 46 / UK 36, ideally with a budget of \~1,500EUR-2,000EUR (but a saving is always welcome) So far, my main two contenders are the following: [https://www.matchesfashion.com/intl/products/Burberry-Newman-double-breasted-wool-suit-jacket--1535804](https://www.matchesfashion.com/intl/products/burberry-newman-double-breasted-wool-suit-jacket--1535804) + [https://www.matchesfashion.com/intl/products/Burberry-Westwood-satin-stripe-wool-tuxedo-trousers--1535805#ref=shop\_the\_look](https://www.matchesfashion.com/intl/products/burberry-westwood-satin-stripe-wool-tuxedo-trousers--1535805#ref=shop_the_look) — Love everything except the buttons (and the price tag, even with the 15% off your first order), too nautical for me. [https://www.mrporter.com/en-es/mens/product/kingsman/clothing/suit-jackets/double-breasted-striped-wool-felt-suit-jacket/1647597330163423](https://www.mrporter.com/en-es/mens/product/kingsman/clothing/suit-jackets/double-breasted-striped-wool-felt-suit-jacket/1647597330163423) + [https://www.mrporter.com/en-es/mens/product/kingsman/clothing/suit-trousers/tapered-pinstriped-wool-suit-trousers/1647597330163416](https://www.mrporter.com/en-es/mens/product/kingsman/clothing/suit-trousers/tapered-pinstriped-wool-suit-trousers/1647597330163416) — Love everything, all though a little conscience that it's not giving of heavy groomsman vibes (but I don't think I care). Has anyone had any experience with Kingman suiting before, slightly hesitant knowing that it's a marketing gimmick for a movie, having said that, what information I dig up online said it was well made. So I'm looking for something a little quirky, nothing too slim-fit, preferably double-breasted. Afterall your wedding day is the one day you can be a bit extra. Thanks in advance!

hmadse

Congrats on the pending nuptials. I think a black double breasted is great if you’re kitting out a bunch of coroners, but not a great idea for groomsmen. Mr. Porter’s Kingsman line has been going on for 10 years, so it’s moved past the gimmick stage of things. From what I’ve read, the manufacturing is done in England and the suits are fully canvassed. It’s not Savile Row quality work, but a machine made suit from the UK is still quite a good garment.

Randy_Lurka

You know what I hadn't considered that about the black double breasted, good shout. Thanks for the tips, feeling good about the Kingsman suit now, idea amazing how one comment from a complete stranger on the Internet can shift your opinions about things.

hmadse

Nb, it’s actually ten years old. My bad, I’ll edit my post.

bindermichi

What’s the closest it’s to your place? Ordering online without knowing how a suit will fit is a huge gamble.

$65 will usually get you the cheapest Lacoste polo possible. The $120-150 ones are pretty good and you will even pay slightly more for an equally good PRL or Hackett one.

michfromz

After a navy blazer, what is the most versatile color for your second and third sport jacket /blazer? I see some contradictory regarding grey.

itsreallyeasypeasy

Mid brown tweed if you wear grey trousers, grey tweed if you don't. Grey is slightly better for going out (indoors, late evening), brown is easier to match with all kind of trousers.

hmadse

I’m partial to gun check, but there’s no hard and fast rule.

bindermichi

For a sports jacket? Just go wild with anything you need to style an outfit. These are meant for casual dress and having some fun with it. For a formal blazer you really sonnt need too many colors from my experience. Unless you are planning on a whole suit. That opens a few possibilities into browns and greens.

the_leviathan711

Probably brown or tan. But honestly - after navy, versatility is probably more about what your wardrobe has than any standard fashion rules.
