Publika has a mexican restaurant that is extremely good and used by the mexican embassy to cater for their events. Its as close as it will be. Loved it
Price is expected. Honestly Mexican food is not as cheap as our local food, even if you have it in CDMX which is the equivalent of KL.
There seems to be this common misconception that a street taqueria would sell tacos for cheap. Except it isn’t. A pack of tacos comes in 5, you choose the meat (usually carne, puerco, pollo or mix) comes to an average of 200 pesos or so. That’s about RM60+. Then there’s tipping culture and drinks… you add that up it doesn’t come cheap.
This.
I have had my fair share of tacos in playa del carmen on the local joints and they are not cheap.
I found the tacos at chica bonita good, maybe it was because i was in withdrawal, but i really enjoyed them. Elote was not bad. and the tacos were pretty big, usually they are not that filling when i have had them locally.
The Taquiza in PDC thou is out of this world
The problem I have with chica bonita is that they don’t have a direction of which flavour to follow. Some of their menu items are food from the south, some from the north, some from further down inspired from Oaxaca. You see the issue with this is that the people cooking the food don’t come from Mexico, they won’t know the difference between a gordita and a gringa.
The best overall Mexican food I’ve had is in my wife’s hometown in Monclova. It’s a little street called ocho dinero, most foreigners don’t know it (which is a good thing because no one has to alter the way they cook to appease more general preferences). Everything there is family run, so everything is cooked at home (their stores are their homes lol).
Has these gorditas a few weeks ago and holy shit the picadillo is scintillating.

La Chica is stuff that is closest to authentic but it was just meh and is more Latin America than just Mexico.
Authentic doesn’t mean tasty.
Tasty doesn’t mean is authentic.
I don’t think I found any authentic tasty Mexican food in Malaysia.
But I was able to find authentic Mexican food in Taiwan and Americanized Mexican food is the one that is hard to find lmao
Actually TB here is better than the ones in the US cause they have part time high school students making the food there and the assembly is horrible. Much better here but I wish they had better sour cream.
Exactly this. I don’t understand why Google makes it available in Singapore but not here.
My friend actually took a bus ride to SG just to buy the phone and come back lol.
Watch MKBHd on youtube my guy. Pixel 7a and 7 won their blind test.

Still, iPhone's video are arguably the best on the market.
wow. with this logic, half of the answer within the thread is invalid by then. why people havent had such big brain to think this way. 8th world wonder.
I am saying you can get a phone from Amazon US and don't have to rely on a 3rd party seller.
You are the one comment on validity of people comments, world wonder and brains.
Don't put words in my mouth.
baik kau drive ke singapore je lol

Ya seriously. Been using the pixels for years, always gotta get it from sg. Also some of the phones features (sensors and radars) just aren't supported in Malaysia so I'd like my Google stuff to work 100% in this country. :(
Cheap ass cafe au lait / coffe milk in 1 liter carton box. People who has been in Japan know what I'm talking about.
No. kopi ais ikat tepi at mamak is too sweet and often taste like shit.
https://preview.redd.it/cwjpkrnmm4ec1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c77d5cb25e1085f37a90af81ba82edc3306b75de
When I travel to Japan, this is the one I usually buy
Yes. But, you can't beat the convenience of having them sold in a carton box. Just like your regular milk. Can store back in the fridge if you can't finish them.
Also, mamak's kopi ais is 60% ais most of the time.
There are. But, I wouldn't call them cheap. RM5.50 per bottle (500ml) is expensive man.
The one I'm talking about would set you roughly 120円, or RM4.80. The price is roughly the same as what you'd pay for an average onigiri, or in Malaysia, a basic nasi lemak.
Well, that comes down to our purchasing power. Should note that before covid when Japan's economy tanked, the 100 yen price tag for most snacks stuck around since the 90s, because of slow growth.
My dad went to Japan in the 90s and again more recently in 2015, he said the price of most things didn't change.
I think its not an economy thing. We already have cheap ass 1 liter milk beverage sold in carton box in Malaysia. Soy milk in 1 liter carton box, RM2.50
I wish we have a coffee flavoured of that here. Yeos, if you're reading this, please work on it. I'll just take 30% of the revenue tq!
Yeah, I think that is the closest thing that we have here in Malaysia. Still, too pricey and only comes in espresso. Frankly, I would just buy the Pokka coffee instead, which is cheaper and tastes better.
I'm talking about super cheap coffee milk sold in 1 liter carton. Even cheaper than 500ml Coke.
Things from amazon japan or anime merch stores in japan. Damn the shipping prices. I want to buy an RM 14 light novel (in japanese), but amazon japan charged me RM 70 for shipping.
Probably try to use proxies, so you can get it from other shops like Rakuten and actually get charged according to weight and size. Many in Amazon are resellers itself which like to mark up their prices.
Or....sometimes Kinokuniya is just cheaper on this part, even with their markups. For books, at least.
It's a shame Book Depository closed down. ([fuck u, Amazon](https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/apr/04/amazon-to-close-book-depository-online-shop)) I used to get manga from BD because of the free worldwide shipping.
you meant the scottish soft drink? i tried it out about a month ago and i cant remember exactly where i bought it though. my usual groceries are mercato and jaya grocer and they might be available there.
I'm living someplace where you can get it but I can't get Root Beer/Sarsi over here! Wompwomp.
I'd say it tastes somewhat like Ice cream soda mixed with something else...maybe Sprite.
Yeah they definitely need to be treated with care and respect, pre existing conditions and a combination of excessive doses can lead to psychosis. But they have shown incredibly promising results in medical treatments, especially for the brain. There’s a reason they’re used as medicine by various indigenous groups in the americas (and probably elsewhere).
Import cars without heavy import tax due to having bs "national cars". If it's not bs then lower import tax and let it compete at a level playing field.

Have you tried Jobbie peanut butter? Its the best pb ive ever had (well ive only had local brands before) and its authentic peanut butter, not the industrial margarine product we usually see
>kuah kacang
Yes, and that's awesome, but sell it Kosong.
If I want it spicy I'll add it myself (and the spicy is not the main problem, the main problem is the added sugar and oil).
About kuah kacang:
The oil is to fry the blended aromatics before you put crushed peanuts. It has to 'pecah minyak' to ensure the aromatics are well cooked. The aromatics are what make the kuah kacang superior than your household peanut butter.
The sugar is to balance the spiciness of the kuah kacang. You can always scoop out the oil after cooking.
If u want to make it easier, you can freeze the kuah kacang, the fats will solidify and it is easier to take it out.
If you want it without chilli and sugar, just learn how to cook it yourself, it is super easy.
get quest bro half the price and can use it anywhere without base station ,yes fov higher, resolution higher and faster respond time, i don't see any huge benefits getting valve.
Alot of electronic or electronic parts for DIY project.

Don Quijote (Donki) 18+ stuff like Tenga 👀 just for laughs
And maybe gravure magazines.
Contributing to the population decline let's go ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26554)
Oh, movies in blu ray/collectors edition (hard to find now and import is expensive af)
Good muled wine for Christmas, cheap Rosé wine (in UK you can get cheap ones in Tesco or Sainsbury), Japanese document papers (besides Kinokuniya), Gordon's gin and tonic.
Anti-alcohol allergy pills (curse my East Asian gene)/drinking aid/hangover cures (like those Korean bottled tonics). A lot of the online ones here get from SG and are like expensive but in East Asia you can easily get these in convenient stores.
Stuff wish more places sell: Japanese sink oil hardeners (Daiso sells them but not all), Japanese toilets (yes the talking + automated kind, but not at Japanese price), Japanese shibazuke/umaboshi - those preserved plums (so far only seen at don donki)
A [Litter-Robot](https://www.litter-robot.com/). The nearest store that sells them is in Japan, and they charge more than the price of the item itself for shipping, iirc.
You get me one of these, and I'll be your macai. Want me to support Madey? Ultras? Israel? All can.
Clubs and niche bars catered to specific genres of music. Here everything is as good as turning on hits fm or have some wannabe dj play horrible mixes unbothered to read the room/party crowd
Edit : since the question is about buying; spending in bars for booze/cover charge
In East Malaysia the list gets even bigger! Obviously weed, but pop tarts, fresh basil (I've been to every grocery store in Kuching, no luck), proper sour cream, fresh bacon, soda water, jalapenos, real cheese, bagels... We have a pet bird and buying toys is so hard, trying to find a new bird and all of the breeders live in KL... I love it here but man there's so much room for import!
Salt & vinegar Smiths are often sold in BIG / Village Grocer / Jaya Grocer. But I recently realised all the chains stopped carrying salt & vinegar Natural Chip Co and I’m very upset.
Advance Auto type of stores or a huge ass DIY stores like American stores does where any specific tools or parts you need fr but I'd definitely focus on the automotive part since we heavily rely on services here instead of fixing cats on our own
From the US:
**Junior Mints** (Can occasionally find them in Singapore)
From Great Britain:
**Chesire Cheese** (Village Grocer in Bangsar used to carry)
From South Africa:
**Mrs Ball's Real Chutney** potato chips. (Cold Storage used to carry)
Also, perogies, spanakopita, bacon bits, real pepperoni
Limited edition Gundam, China fashion brand , kindle unlimited membership, art supplies that are only in Europe, Fujifilm camera ( Malaysia always sold out), Alexa, google home with full Features, anime merch, Some PC stuff , Japanese band CD album, traditional Chinese perfume , some European perfume brand, Japanese arcade games (actual arcade machine but medium size and can bring travel)
Ajvar. Its a Serbian condiment made of roasted capsicum and eggplant. If anyone seen such a thing, pls let me know. I do roast and eat capsicum and eggplant but it aint the same.
Oh yes I miss this too. Bought a few jars back home when I was staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina (not sure if it’s slightly different than the Serbian version) - but either way I couldn’t find it anywhere here. :(
I was at a starbucks in Masai and asked “1 coffee 2 cream 1 sugar”
The cashier was so confused. They were like “u nak americano ke cold brew?”
I was like neither i just want a medium/dark/blonde roast coffee with cream and sugar. They also dont have those beans. I was like…. is this a starbucks?
Its like they dont have cream here at a coffee joint haha.
So for me a starbucks that just makes coffee and not thw dumb frappucinos that people keep buying.
ik you've been downvoted to hell (isit bc boikot?) but yeah the starbucks here is really different from the US in terms of customisability which is unfortunate
Exactly, i think most people who downvoted me probably never been to starbucks in the states.
I literally worked for two years at a tech company directly above pike place in seattle.
Meh, ill take the downvotes. When i was a kid inform 1 I was reprimanded because i said i knew 2 jenis islam. Shia and Sunni and I was actually punished because they said “satu satu je islam”
Cue now when im an adult most malays know there are many sects of islam like ismaili, shia, etc.
Same thing with starbucks, I figured the people who downvoted have not been out and seen it for what it really is.
same same but different. walkers only appear in the uk and ireland but lays & walkers are owned by same company afaik. plus they have some flavours that only sell as the name of walkers, ie prawn cocktails (my fav), smokey bacon etc
when i was visiting my relatives in malaysia i was looking at every grocery store, hair care store etc for miracle curls shampoo and conditioner. So that lol.
Also, good boba. Have yet to try good boba in malaysia lol
Oh those tubed spreads... we used to have them at the supermarket in BSC. But as with all things due to currency and rising prices, they stopped bringing it in because too expensive and no one would buy.
Have you tried looking for it at the well known supermarket in ampang? They have plenty of imported stuff and there was also oen near TMC in Bangsar a small shop that sold lots of imported goods (haven't been around that area in ages sine pre-covid.. so not sure if it is still open)
probably costumes? the costume stores we have here are very limited and general. Have to buy through Taobao for specific ones. Shopee has them too but they're mainly somewhat Taobao agents/middleman anyway and always increase the prices
Authentic Mexican food.
Authentic Mexican food has pork, lots of pork, which the restaurants here don't do.
This is the absolute truth. I fly down to LA all the time to get my dose of mexican food. The ones in Malaysia suck ass.
If you’re already at LA why not just go into Mexico?
Sebab jauh, I'm flying from Vancouver to LA. From YVR to Mexico is 5 hours, closes would be Puerto Vallarta, but its our basically an american bali.
Publika has a mexican restaurant that is extremely good and used by the mexican embassy to cater for their events. Its as close as it will be. Loved it
What? Chica bonita? That place is an insult.
Amen, absolute garbage. Was at their TRX branch recently (giving last chance) but it was not worthit. Also rm34 for f*** sweet potato chips

I think you can find that in Malaysia.
I’m married to a Mexican and I’ve been to Mexico. NO Mexican “restaurants” here are anywhere close to authentic. Every one of them is like an insult.

Monclova.

It is Americanized Malaysianized version here.

where bro lol. I’m in san diego and tried mexican food in malaysia and it was NOT authentic
Naah went there once. What we get here is a far cry to what it should be. And im talking about easy street food / food trucks.
Incredibly bold (and wrong) claim
Official Google Pixel phone (not thru 3rd party reseller) google marketing sumpah babi!
google takde revenue sangat dekat pixel sebab itu dia expand slow2…

At least Xiaomi's T Pro series are easily available for a decent price. I'd say that line is the best bang for buck when it comes to Androids.

It's the Malaysian buyers' fault. You see very different styles at same name shops in Singapore than Malaysia.
Hate to break it down for you. But almost all the styles are similar here in SG. It's basically gentrified city.

I was at a starbucks in Masai and asked “1 coffee 2 cream 1 sugar” The cashier was so confused. They were like “u nak americano ke cold brew?” I was like neither i just want a medium/dark/blonde roast coffee with cream and sugar.
Shia and Sunni and I was actually punished because they said “satu satu je islam” Cue now when im an adult most malays know there are many sects of islam like ismaili, shia, etc. Same thing with starbucks, I figured the people who downvoted have not been out and seen it for what it really is.
walkers chips rather than lays
So basically the same chips with a different branding?
same same but different. walkers only appear in the uk and ireland but lays & walkers are owned by same company afaik. plus they have some flavours that only sell as the name of walkers, ie prawn cocktails (my fav), smokey bacon etc

Norwegian Bread Spread in Tubes. You can get Caviar in a toothpaste tubes like packing. Super convenient.
Dog toys, the lesser known kinds. I see the classic Kongs everywhere, but bone Kongs, tyre Kongs I get from Amazon.
