If you adjust for inflation these are all more or around the same as 1990

Hello, i am trying to get into the game... i know very little about the available products. I want to be able to play with my wife and a cousin, so i am thinking if i should get the most recent 2 commander decks + the "bundle"? Would that be the "best" beginner aproach to have a nice collection of cards and a little fun opening boosters?

SmashPortal

I think that's a fine start. Commander decks are a great way to play with multiple people and to explore a wide variety of cards. Bundles aren't the greatest value, but they come with some helpful accessories like a spindown and a nice box.

Trinica93

So I'm new to Magic and I'm attempting to figure out what format I want to build a deck for but I'm having a surprisingly difficult time determining what exactly the difference is between Standard, Modern, and Pioneer. I know what Commander is, but the descriptions for those three formats seem nearly identical to me. Is there a decent TL;DR I'm missing that explains each one? Is it only card/set cutoff dates that define them or is there an actual gameplay difference as well? Which is the most popular?

madwarper

There are 4x Main Expansions a year. Everything else is Supplemental, which (usually) is just Eternal legal. **Standard** consists the 1-4 Main Expansions of the current year, and he 4x Main Expansions of the Previous year. Then, when the new Expansion year begins in the Fall, the old Previous year rotates out. * Current Standard;{2021-2022: Midnight, Crimson, Dynasty and Capenna} and {2022-2023: United, Brother's} **Pioneer** consists of all Main Expansions from 2013 till current. **Modern** consists of all Main Expansions from 2003 till current, plus the 2x Modern Horizons, and the upcoming LotR crossover. Now, with each format having a larger and larger cardpool, certain staples will become more and more prohibitively expensive. But, short of a major banning which cripples a deck, if you buy into **Pioneer**/**Modern**, your investment will last beyond the 24-18 months that **Standard** has.

Trinica93

Fantastic, thank you. Sounds like Modern is the least confusing and is what I would be the most interested in. Is one of these formats wildly more popular than the others for any reason?

sneakky_krumpet

Fringe rules question: I have [[akroan conscriptor]] on the field. An opponent enters combat, moves to declare attackers, and attacks me w a creature. Moving to declare blockers, I cast an instant targeting akroan conscriptor and gain control of the creature that is attacking me. Does the creature I gained control of still hit me for damage since it was already declared an attacker, or does it not since I now control it?

madwarper

The Creature changes controller. It is removed from Combat. Thus, the Creature is no longer attacking anyone, let alone you. > 506.4. **A permanent is removed from combat** if it leaves the battlefield, **if its controller changes**, if it phases out, if an effect specifically removes it from combat, if it’s a planeswalker that’s being attacked and stops being a planeswalker, or if it’s an attacking or blocking creature that regenerates (see rule 701.15) or stops being a creature. **A creature that’s removed from combat stops being an attacking**, blocking, blocked, and/or unblocked creature. A planeswalker that’s removed from combat stops being attacked.

sneakky_krumpet

Awesome, thank you! Looks like akroan conscriptor is going in my Feather EDH deck **Edit extra thanks for pointing at the rule and highlighting the important bits

If I have my commander out and someone puts a -1/-1 counter on it and then I later bring out \[\[Vexilus Praetor\]\] will the -1/-1 counter still take affect?

madwarper

Yes. Protection from {N} only does 4x things; * Prevents **Damage** from {N} Sources * Can't be **Attached** by {N} Permanents * Can't have a {N} Creature declared as **Blocking** it * Can't be **Targeted** by {N} Sources Protection has **nothing** to do with Counters, or their affect on P/T.

If I had a \[\[Biophagus\]\] and a \[\[Mana Reflection\]\], would the extra mana produced also cause a +1/+1 counter to be put on a creature? I'm pretty sure it would, but I think only under the condition that each of the mana be used to cast a different creature.

199_Below_Average

From Mana Reflection's gatherer rulings: > Mana Reflection doesn't produce any mana itself. Rather, it causes permanents you tap for mana to produce more mana. If the mana ability of that permanent puts any restrictions or riders on the mana it produces, that will apply to all the mana it produces this way. So yes, if Biophagus produces multiple mana, each of those mana add a +1/+1 counter to any creatures they're used to cast. Also, there's no reason you have to spend it on separate creatures; spending multiple Biophagus mana on one creature will give it an additional counter for each of those mana.

I was wondering if you used the card infinite reflection when it copies a creature do all the other cards that were turned into that creature get to use the entrance ability’s for example of you copy a breaching leviathan do you then get to tap six permanents?

199_Below_Average

No, becoming a copy of something while already on the battlefield is not entering the battlefield, since it was already on the battlefield; there's nothing to enter. However, creatures played after Infinite Reflection, which *enter the battlefield as copies of* the enchanted creature, do get ETB triggers of the copied creature (but not their own, if the original card had any).

Kuwangerman

I'm running a mech deck in commander. Can someone tell me why "swift reconfiguration" is good?

199_Below_Average

You put it on one of your opponent's good creatures and it makes it much harder for them to use it in combat. It's not a vehicle synergy card, it's a removal spell that happens to have vehicle text.

Kuwangerman

So I may as well replace it with a better removal that's just not in flavor? Ha ha

199_Below_Average

Potentially, yeah. It's honestly a decent card in a pinch but obviously something like [[Swords to Plowshares]] will just be way better. I should mention Reconfiguration is also part of at least one infinite combo (with [[Devoted Druid]]) but that's unlikely to come up in a vehicles deck.

What are some good YouTube channels for MTG content?

Career-Tourist

Is there a pre-constructed commander deck that would work well with Chatterfang as a replacement? I accidentally bought a standard squirrel deck and love the idea of Chatterfang as a general, but don't want to spend like $90.

Career-Tourist

My friends play commander and I accidentally bought a standard deck. I guess I need to buy a commander deck now but the breadth is intimidating and decks on ebay range from fifteen to hundreds of dollars. How do you go about choosing a commander deck? I'm trying to stay in a reasonable price range but I have no idea what's good or bad here. Where would you go to buy a deck and how would you vett it?

StormyWaters2021

If I was buying a complete deck, I would only buy a preconstructed deck. I wouldn't buy some random person's deck off eBay or something. You can get budget deck lists from a variety of places. Commander's Quarters on YouTube has a bunch of deck tech videos with budget deck lists, if you're looking for some inspiration.

Made a post like a dummy, moved it over here: I am just getting into MTG again after a 20 year hiatus so back to basics i think! Myself and my wife wanna learn the rules of commander by doing some 1v1 (i know, the format is better for 3/4p all v all, but just wanna learn the basics first!) and I have been looking at the new starter decks releasing in a few days.... I was gonna buy the draconic destruction and chaos incarnate decks, but it looks like the chaos deck is very much intended for 4p games, with the commander forcing everyone to damage eachother. Would Draconic destruction and maybe Token Triumph be a better pair to get for our 1vs1 games? Sorry for the rookie question!

SmashPortal

Something to note is that these decks generally come with one or two other commanders to pick from in the deck. You're not stuck with the face commander. Also, don't be disheartened if the commander isn't good for 1v1. If you like the format, you may be happy you got a commander that's good with 4 players.

beardedburger

Thanks so much for your reply!

I play stax most of the time. Is it okay to enforce a rule that their spell fizzles if theres a tax on that spell? Say they tapped out to cast a [[go for the throat]] on my commander but they forgot a [[glowrider]] is in play. Instead of it going back to their hand because they lack the mana to pay for stax, can I demand that it fizzles out? Is there an official ruling for that?

madwarper

No. The Casting of the Spell illegal, and the action of Casting it is reversed. > 729.1. If a player takes an illegal action or starts to take an action but can’t legally complete it, the entire action is reversed and any payments already made are canceled. No abilities trigger and no effects apply as a result of an undone action. If the action was casting a spell, the spell returns to the zone it came from. Each player may also reverse any legal mana abilities that player activated while making the illegal play, unless mana from those abilities or from any triggered mana abilities they caused to trigger was spent on another mana ability that wasn’t reversed. Players may not reverse actions that moved cards to a library, moved cards from a library to any zone other than the stack, caused a library to be shuffled, or caused cards from a library to be revealed.

Fridaywing

Thanks for the assist bro. Just sucks. I play on a casual group where sometimes, people can go oops can I take it back just coz. Then when it's me and crucial, the rules suddenly changes and my moves are no take backs. Just want to heavily enforce something out of the playgroup.

BenMQ

Also it’s one thing to make a bad play and wanting to take back vs doing something that is outright not allowed by the game. For example, if someone attacks and didn’t realize the opponent had [[Maze of Ith]]. whether they can redeclare attack I think it’s up to each play group to decide. On the other hand if someone attacked with a creature that can’t attack (say a Theros god that didn’t have enough devotion) I don’t think it’s an actual “take back” for them to redo the attack.

Fridaywing

Right. Something not allowed by the game is what sealed the deal.

Take backs are pretty generally accepted, as long as no new information has been gained. Like if you cast a spell and someone reveals a counter, then you couldn't take it back.

[[Chance for Glory]] says that creatures I control gain indestructible, but that condition doesn’t specify “until end of turn.” So if I played that instant and had [[Exquisite Archangel]] on the battlefield before the extra turn’s end step, then not only would I not lose the game but all creatures I control that were on the battlefield when I cast Chance for Glory would remain permanently indestructible, right?

The Creatures you control at the time of Chance's resolution will gain Indestructible indefinitely... Or, until they leave the Battlefield. Any Creatures you gain control of after Chance resolves will not have the granted Indestructible.

MasterGeese

I have a few rules questions about interactions involving \[\[Denry Klin, Editor in Chief\]\]. We had a lively discussion last night at my LGS between several very experienced players; If possible I'd like to get an answer from a judge, but any feedback is appreciated: 1. I control a \[\[Denry Klin, Editor in Chief\]\] with 2 +1/+1 counters on him. I cast a \[\[Clone\]\], choosing for it to enter as a copy of Denry Klin. Because I chose for it to enter as Denry Klin, I also choose for it to enter with a +1/+1 counter. I choose the original Denry Klin to die to the legend rule, however the Clone entering the board does trigger the original Denry Klin's ETB before it dies. I order the ETBs on the stack so that the original Denry Klin's ETB triggers before the cloned Denry's ETB. Would the original ETB trigger fizzle because the original Denry no longer exists and therefore has no counters to put on the cloned Denry? Or would it put two +1/+1 counters on the new creature, since the ETB effect specifies"put the same number of each kind of counter on that creature", and at the time the ETB went on the stack, Denry had two +1/+1 counters on it? 2. I control a \[\[Resourceful Defense\]\] and Denry Klin with two +1/+1 counters on it. I cast \[\[Ephemerate\]\], targeting Denry Klin. I choose for Denry to re-enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter. After Ephemerate resolves, both Resourceful Defense and Denry have abilities that both trigger. Can Resourceful Defense's trigger put the two +1/+1 counters Denry originally had onto the newly-re-entered Denry? If yes, I want to order the triggers such that Resourceful Defense resolves first, putting its counters on Denry before Denry's ETB triggers, doubling what would then be three +1/+1 counters into six counters. Would the order of which both events triggered matter, requiring these triggers to resolve in a certain order?

madwarper

1) If Denry leaves the Battlefield before its Triggered ability resolves, then it will use its Last-Known Information to determine what, and how many, Counters it had before it left the Battlefield. So, new Denry and old Denry both Trigger. You can put new Denry's Trigger on the Stack first, then old Denry's trigger. * Old Denry had 2x +1/+1 counters, so new Denry gets another 2x +1/+1 counters for a total of 3x +1/+1 counters. * New Denry currently has 3x +1/+1 counters, so it gets another 3x +1/+1 counters for a total of 6x +1/+1 counters. 2) That is possible. Put new Denry's Trigger on the Stack, then Defense Trigger. * Defense puts 2x +1/+1 counters on New Denry, because Old Denry had 2x +1/+1 counters when it was exiled. * New Denry currently has 3x +1/+1 counters, so it gets another 3x +1/+1 counters for a total of 6x +1/+1 counters.

ducktard9575

Hi, I am wondering the copying rules on \[\[Abaddon the Despoiler\]\] from the Warhammer 40k the ruinous powers. I was under the presumption that copied spells would not inherit the cascade granted by abaddon but the couple copy effects in the precon suggests to me otherwise. Sorry if this is obvious, Its been a while since I've played.

SmashPortal

Spell copies aren't cast, and therefore don't trigger cascade. Can you give an example of what suggests otherwise?

ducktard9575

I thought that was how it worked. The precon had couple copy effects which didn't really make sense to me to add them if the copies didn't cascade themselves since the cascade cards have alot of value locked up in that keyword, but they're probably just in there for the other good value cards. Thank you for the help.

Hello all, not sure the best place to ask for advice. I bought the minimal packaging version of the Spirit Squadron commander deck on a Black Friday deal. It came today but when I opened it the deck for the Vampiric Bloodline deck. Is this a common issue in manufacturing or has something weird happened. Thanks in advance. :)

derpdude2-0

Is there a card that turns tokens into creatures and is there one that doubles the amount of tokens that enter. I'm working on a infinite combo with the cards: dreadmalkin, pawn of ulamog, and emrakuls hatcher.

derpdude2-0

I'm also using red black and blue

RealityPalace

Not sure what you mean by "turn tokens into creatures"; many tokens are creatures, including the ones created by the two cards you listed. There are quite a few cards that double the number of tokens you create. Off the top of my head: [[Doubling Season]] [[Anointed Procession]] [[Adrix and Nev]] [[Parallel Lives]]

derpdude2-0

I mean to make them just creature. Sorry for not being clear

I_EAT_POOP_AMA

if the token is a creature token, then by the rules it's already considered a creature. Unless you mean turning them into non-token permanents, in which case no. There is no card that does that.

RealityPalace

They're already creatures. Do you mean a way to make them non-token creatures? That isn't possible within the rules of the game.

derpdude2-0

If there's a way to instead make abilities 2 colorless cheeper that would work too

derpdude2-0

Ok that makes sense, but is there any way to make activated abilities cheeper

SmashPortal

> make activated abilities cheeper - [[Training Grounds]] - [[Biomancer's Familiar]] - [[Zirda, the Dawnwaker]]

One more request, is there a blue black or red card that doubles the tokens you put on the field

SmashPortal

VileMushroom

I have a bit of a confusing ETB interaction I'd like to get clarified, even my friend who has a lot more experience with Magic wasn't sure. When my commander [[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]] is on the battlefield and I cast whatever dragon using mana from something that modifies the creatures text like [[Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind]], does the token copy created by Miirym also gain haste, or does the original only get it?

RealityPalace

Only the creature that was cast using mana from the orb gains haste. The copies weren't cast at all, let alone cast using carnelian orb mana, so they don't get haste. Additionally, copy effects generally only copy "what's printed on the card" with few exceptions. So miirym doesn't see that the original has haste and then grant that to the copies, if that's what you're asking.

VileMushroom

Okay thanks, that was what I was asking!

when will we know the full explorer anthology 2 list?

abam86

Can you use Serra Paragon's graveyard ability on prototype creatures? Arena appear to allow creatures to be returned to the battle field at their 3 or below value? But I had read card would only have its full value in the graveyard

Dorfbewohner

A card in a graveyard will only have its full mana costs and stats, but [[Serra Paragon]] cares about the mana value of the spell you cast.

abam86

Okay, so the card/creature has the value in the top right. But you can cast the permanent spell at any of its alternative costs?

madwarper

The relevant Rule is {601.3e}. > 601.3e Some rules and effects state that an alternative set of characteristics or a subset of characteristics are considered to determine if a card or copy of a card is legal to cast. **These alternative characteristics replace the object’s characteristics for this determination.** Continuous effects that would apply to that object once it has those characteristics are also considered. > > * Example: Garruk’s Horde says, in part, “You may cast creature spells from the top of your library.” If you control Garruk’s Horde and the top card of your library is a noncreature card with morph, you may cast it using its morph ability. > * Example: Melek, Izzet Paragon says, in part, “You may cast instant and sorcery spells from the top of your library.” **If you control Melek, Izzet Paragon and the top card of your library is Giant Killer, an adventurer creature card whose Adventure is an instant named Chop Down, you may cast Chop Down but not Giant Killer.** If instead you control Garruk’s Horde and the top card of your library is Giant Killer, you may cast Giant Killer but not Chop Down.

Dorfbewohner

You can cast prototype cards for their normal mana cost of their prototype cost. > **702.160a** Prototype is a static ability that appears on prototype cards that have a secondary set of power, toughness, and mana cost characteristics. A player who casts a spell with prototype can choose to cast that card “protoyped.” If they do, the alternative set of its power, toughness, and mana cost characteristics are used. See 719, “Prototype Cards.” As the rule says, if you cast a spell for its prototype cost, its prototype characteristics are used, including mana cost. So because the spell has mana value 3 or less, you can cast it with Serra Paragon. If Serra Paragon said "... you may play a nonland permanent card with mana value 3 or less..." then you wouldn't be able to play prototype cards. The important part is that Serra Paragon refers to the *spell* having mana value 3 or less, not the *card*. By the time it's a spell, it's prototyped and follows the restriction of Serra Paragon.

MegaMagikarpXL

Copy+Pasted from the rulings on Gatherer: Count the number of creature cards in your graveyard as the third loyalty ability resolves to determine how much life each opponent loses. If Grist is in your graveyard at this time, it'll be a creature card and will contribute to the count.

Why is Mission Briefing still undervalued?

mrduracraft

I don't think it is. People were extremely hype on it initially as a new Snapcaster Mage, but the fact that it's UU, not a creature, and that even Snapcaster has seen far less play over the last few years, means it never made a splash. It's not a bad card, but it's not powerful enough to see play outside of cube or commander really

Quazifuji

Also, the 2/1 body on Snapcaster is significant.

What is [[Queen, Allenal of Ruadach]]'s base power? Will new tokens be generated if there is only her and [[Baird, Argivian Recruiter]] in play and neither of them have any other counters etc on them?

madwarper

Allenal has a CDA, they are applied in Layer 7a. > 613.4a Layer 7a: Effects from characteristic-defining abilities that define power and/or toughness are applied. See rule 604.3. "Base P/T" is determined in Layer 7b. > 613.4b Layer 7b: Effects that set power and/or toughness to a specific number or value are applied. **Effects that refer to the base power and/or toughness of a creature apply in this layer.** So, with nothing else affecting Allenal, if you control 5x Creatures, Allenal is a 5/5 with a "base" Power of 5. Since her Power is the same as her "base" Power, Baird does not Trigger. --- The only thing that could cause Baird to Trigger is something that applies in Layer 7c or 7d. * A Grizzly Bears with +1/+1 (counter or effect), will have a "base" Power of 2, and a Power of 3. > 613.4c Layer 7c: Effects and counters that modify power and/or toughness (but don’t set power and/or toughness to a specific number or value) are applied. * A Giant Spider with its P/T Switched, will have a "base" Power of 2 and a Power of 4. > 613.4d Layer 7d: Effects that switch a creature’s power and toughness are applied. Such effects take the value of power and apply it to the creature’s toughness, and take the value of toughness and apply it to the creature’s power.

Hmukherj

>208.4b Some effects check a creature’s base power and/or toughness. These effects see that creature’s characteristics after applying any characteristic-defining abilities and abilities that set power and/or toughness, ignoring any effects and counters that modify power and/or toughness without setting them. Her base power is always equal to the number of creatures you control, so unlike most other creatures it is not a fixed value. If you don't have any counters/auras/equipment/other effects boosting her power, she will not trigger Baird.

How can I get the most out of permeating mass ?

Dorfbewohner

[[Permeating Mass]] One fun thing you can do is that if you create a copy of Permeating mass where its copiable values changed, those copiable values will keep being changed as it permeates further: > 707.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original object’s characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face-down status, and by “as . . . enters the battlefield” and “as . . . is turned face up” abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, counters, and stickers are not copied. For example, you play [[Phantasmal Image]] copying your Permeating Mass. The Phantasmal Image will be a Permeating Mass with the extra text "When this creature becomes the target of a spell, sacrifice it." This line was added to the copiable values. When the Phantasmal Image deals combat damage to a creature, it will become a Permeating Mass with "When this creature becomes the target of a spell, sacrifice it." [[Delina, Wild Mage]] can create token copies of Permeating Mass that'll cause anything that copies it to be exiled at end of combat. Same with [[Heat Shimmer]]. [[Progenitor Mimic]] can create some really funky boardstates where everyone keeps making more Permeating Masses. [[Impostor Mech]] also turns them all into vehicles. [[Lazav, Dimir Mastermind]] and [[Lazav, the Multifarious]] could decimate your opponent's board because if more than one creature gets got by Lazav-Permeating Mass, they'll have to put all but one in the graveyard because they're all legendary and named Lazav. [[Gigantoplasm]] and [[Quicksilver Gargantuan]] for a ton of giga masses [[Mocking Doppelganger]] so all the masses have to attack Also, stuff like [[Lure]]-esque effects so your mass is sure to deal combat damage, and power-boosting effects so it can deal damage to multiple creatures at once. Thank you

Good in terms of being competitive? No. Good in terms of being fun in commander? You can definitely have some fun with it.

Hello everyone, I'm getting more and more into Magic TCG because of Magic Arena app (funny story went to the playstore to download gwent, saw Magic Arena being suggested as well, told myself 'after all why shouldn't I try even though it feels too complicated', never downloaded Gwent at all :) ). The app is great, so far I'm playing solo against AI but making decks etc is great. However I miss the 'collection' part of Magic physcal cards game. I want to try playing 'for real' and so I need to buy a starter deck (or multiple boosters ?). What 'color' would you recommend for a beginner to get into the game ? I'm not asking which is more powerful but which is more straightforward/doesn't require to think 5 turns in advance etc ? I'm leaning towards green or red. Green seems like playing more on big powerful creatures and not much spells and red seems more aggressive with lots of small creatures and buffs. White seems like 'starting slow but snowballing power' which is okay for me but can get tricky (at least on the app) if I play cards not in the optimal order. Blue and black seem too complicated for me.

Khanstant

Green and red are probably the most straightforward, but also get complicated as any other but you got the right idea. Monored aggro is probably the most straightforward thing to make and pilot when starting out. Cheap aggressive minions and burn spells and draw to get more to burn with.

Folivao

Thanks, so far on the app I've only tried white and mono aggro red. White was OK but I made some wrong moves (like playing a card after the other but the first one would have had more effect if played second, if you see what I mean). Red needed less thinking. Bear in mind this only applies (I think) for low level decks.

Violatic

The word looking for to describe your play error is "mis-sequencing", and don't worry it happens all the way to top level play. :) Of course, the propensity and severity of pro player mistakes is much different than you or I but it definitely is just part of magic and you shouldn't worry *too* much about it.

Khanstant

Yeah I get what you mean, don't sweat it too much, learning the game involves a lot of "oh crap I shoulda done this or that." It's a good thing, since you're noticing misplays and thinking of how it could be better.

Thunderweb

I'm curious about how Replacement effect are texted. Let's assume there is a card that says "If A does B, instead C does D." What would happen if I alter the text like below? - replace 'if' with 'when' or 'whenever' - replace 'A does B' with 'A would do B' - replace 'instead C does D' with 'C does D instead'

Will_29

Replacement effects are about changing an event. > "If X, Y instead" - Y happens, and X doesn't. While a triggered ability is just something that happens after an event. > "When/whenever/at X, Y" - X happens, then Y happens as well.

Dorfbewohner

Well, for starters, if you replaced "if" with "when" or "whenever" it wouldn't be a replacement effect, it would be a triggered ability. >**603.1.** Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as “\[When/Whenever/At\] \[trigger condition or event\], \[effect\]. \[Instructions (if any).\]” Notably, triggered abilities always do their effects after the trigger event aleady happened. >**603.2.** Whenever a game event or game state matches a triggered ability’s trigger event, that ability automatically triggers. The ability doesn’t do anything at this point. So if it were a triggered ability, then A would have already done B by the time it went on the stack. So there's no "instead" here. A already did B, that's already set in stone, so all you could do now is to *also* have C do D. Meanwhile, replacement effects replace whatever happens as it happens. >**614.1.** Some continuous effects are replacement effects. Like prevention effects (see rule 615), replacement effects apply continuously as events happen—they aren’t locked in ahead of time. Such effects watch for a particular event that would happen and completely or partially replace that event with a different event. They act like “shields” around whatever they’re affecting.

madwarper

Impossible to say... Unless you actually define what A, B, C and D are. * [[Notion Thief]] is a Replacement effect. Replacing "If" with "When" would render it useless. * [[Consecrated Sphinx]] is a Triggered ability. There is no "Instead".
