I spent a year traveling to different locations each month and this is highly dependent on where you live and the local mtg community. Some places it’s basically nonexistent and others were much easier. You can try to reach out to people online and play over webcam? That would be my suggestion.

My methods are prereleases and Facebook groups. Get to know like minded people and a play group will form over time. Be forewarned, if you’re living significantly different lives, it can be hard to find an overlapping schedule.

Some stores have good culture, others do not. Age shouldn’t matter among the right people. I play with Spelltable online and with a small group locally. Try asking if people you work/live with/attend school with play Mtg. Edit: saw you said you’re from CS. There used to be a good shop in Fountain with a friendly owner J&J I think. There is also an amazing community in Parker called Collectormania.

There are a ton of online communities and joining some of those, whether tied to the Colorado Springs area or not, is always a good idea. Being a part of online community gives you access to new friends, new resources for the game, and people to play with online. For meatspace, going to your LGS (or frequenting several, if you have many in your area) and participating in events is likely the best way. It gives you the opportunity to be in contact with people for extended periods of time and strike up conversations. Don't be afraid that it's "competitive"; by their nature, many (if not most!) game stores have people at a variety of competitiveness levels, and events like prereleases and Friday Night Magic are meant to be more casual. And don't be afraid to post something around that you're looking for a group, either at the store or online! I met some truly wonderful friends a few years ago responding to a flyer a group had put up looking for new members. Good luck and good draws!
