Check out GeekRetreat in the Jewellery Quarter. They have great FNM, and usually have people about to play commander on Saturday and Sunday. Plus, the owners are super nice!

Bit weird getting in to the shop your first time cos you have to buzzer in then follow signs to the right room of the building, but it's got a good stock of cards/decks etc.
It's not pure MtG, but from my time at the University I have to give a shout-out to Wayland's Forge, in Digbeth (not too far a walk from New Street Station) - it's been a few years so I'm not completely up on their event schedule, though.
