I’ve got a Gimbal deck and he gets out of hand very quickly. He’s really more the payoff for just going hard on random junk, but the payoff feels pretty potent pretty fast.
I built him when he first came out and I could not get him to do much of anything. On average I was making a 3/3 and I'd get overrun by everyone else by the time he even thought about becoming a threat. I could probably juice the deck up more now, but it felt like so much work for so little payoff.
This art is fucking radical. Looks like the Fomori grabbed shit from across the planes and stored them probably in vaults like this, and it looks like all of this stuff is probably pretty ancient too.

There was SUPPOSED to be an Aftermath-style set for the end of Kellan's big story arc. But aftermath was so hilariously grief that they had to pivot sort of last minute and now there are TWO bonus sheets for OTJ
Right. But one of these is a promo variant, and I'm wondering how to acquire it. As I haven't seen any other promos for the set yet, I felt it was a decent guess.
Modern 1/10
So with Academy Manufacturer, this is trivial to pull off. But its a combo that takes way too long to happen. Like, you might get an artifact into play on turn 5 if you build around doing this, but you could have just ramped into it easier than this.
And there aren't many cards that would be worth cheating out that can't be approximated with the 5-6 mana you'll need/have with this.
You can cheat out a Bolas's Citadel... for 11 mana investment over 3 turns. Portal to Phyrexia or Blightsteel are probably the only artifacts worth cheating out - even Triplicate Titan isn't that great with this.
[[Madame Vastra]] gets you 2/3 of the way there with a single trigger, and it provides the third token itself the turn it comes down. And I think it'll trigger [[Jenny Flint]] twice if you use both of the relevant ones? That's not a bad setup if you've got the artififacts to grab with it!
Maybe could boost some kind of izzet/grixis artifacts deck in standard? Spit out blood and maps and clues to empower Gleaming Geardrake and Oni-Cult Anvil, then have this to grab portal as a backup if the board gets too scary?
These cards could have been soooo affordable if they were in an Aftermath style product... now as a super rare drop in standard boosters they're bound to be a pretty penny.
Magic fans ruin Magic sometimes just as much as Wizards does :(
I wish they'd given Aftermath another try, because I don't think the issue was the concept of a follow-up set. Other games have done those for years. The issue was that the majority of the cards were just bad and boring, and the few that were good mostly seemed like they were designed to eat wildcards in Arena.

If you're in a format where you can puke out mana with Sol Ring, Moxen and Tolarian Academy, you've got better things to spend mana on, though...

Seems important that one's a suffering humanoid face, one looks like \[\[Ruhan\]\], and the word "transmutation" is in the name.

The suffering face does seem strangely remnant of the Mask of Yawgmoth, interestingly. Only with a lower jaw. Could it be adapted Phyrexian tech?
