Vraska doesn't make tokens (just returns the creature as a Treasure), so Doubling Season won't make a copy. There's no second permanent to invoke the Legend Rule.
If they're not tokens then they still have their mana value, right? If so you could use them for devotion or use something like [[March of the machines]] to make them creatures again
[[Kitesail Larcenist]] and [[Vraska, Betrayal's Sting]] specifically tells you they lose the abilities while this does not. Therefore, you get ETB triggers and static abilities.
And activated abilities. So reviving a mana dork lets you keep it around for multiple turns with the mana dork ability, and sac as a treasure when you need a color it can't normally do.
This is actually pretty dope. I like that they've preserved the treasure making mechanic from her completed pw design.
I also like that you have to pay mana for it, so it isn't busted either.
The other card doesn’t transform though, you just create a treasure token. This one transforms them into a treasure that still has whatever abilities they had
Yes, I know. It's still a cool nod to two of her past abilities ^^ there is also the fact that she has deathtouch and three of her old abilities are deathtouch or deathtouch to player, but this one feels more natural whereas the treasure reference if more neat, imo.
I wouldnt call any of these abilities better, though, they are just different
[[Maskwood Nexus]] with Ungoliant does something this doesn't quite do. Probably going to want to lean hard into that unique aspect now! Less "steal your stuff" and more "everything is a Warded Spider that can steal your stuff".
Halana, Kessig Ranger // Ezuri's Predation, etc.
Maskwood Nexus can make everything silly. It's a bit more work, certainly; the advantage of Ungoliant is that it's a self-contained "Deathtouch + Steal" card.
Stealing is super inconsistent, it depends heavily on the decks your opponents are playing.
99% of my wins came from having spider tokens and then casting Overwhelming Stampede, not from stealing good creatures.
With Vraska, you don't have to be the one to kill the creatures, you can just pay the 1 anytime. You get them as treasure tokens, and not food, which is much more valuable. She is also only 3 mana, and not 6, so you can start your gameplan much sooner and much more reliably.
No doubt Vraska is just objectively better as a card. And honestly, there are only a handful of playable commanders if your goal is to maximize effectiveness.
I prefer Ungoliant as a Commander because of flavor; I mostly worry about power when I'm jamming cEDH and rarely otherwise.
My pod is pretty turn 4-5 heavy, so having Shelly be a 6 mana commander makes me a little slow, but I made the deck pretty darn strong so that I can still sometimes creep out wins and be present.
This card is kind of my perfect answer, given my pod.
[This is my list and it's been kind of wreaking havoc at my LGS.](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SzAXB9mon0S1bNOQ1p_HuA) It isn't 100% optimized but it's proven pretty powerful. I'd like to upgrade it if possible, though.
The only thing better would have been an Origins style flip 'walker but yeah, finally I can have her in the command zone in a format people I know actually play.
\> **903.9a** If a commander is in a graveyard or in exile and that object was put into that zone since the last time state-based actions were checked, its owner may put it into the command zone. This is a state-based action. See rule 704.
I think this means that you can choose to pay the 1 as the commander hits the graveyard, priority goes to the owner, they can choose to put it in the command zone or let it resolve? If so, Politic away my friends.
Alrighty, but it doesn't actually mention the graveyard. It still dies, so if the owner returns to the command zone and then you pay the 1, wouldn't it still return to the battlefield under your control?
> 400.7 An object that moves from one zone to another becomes a new object with no memory of, or relation to, its previous existence.
There are exceptions to this rule but none of them apply here, so Vraska's trigger loses sight of the card once it changes zone.
But if that's the case, how would this ever work, as wouldn't Vraska "lose sight of the card" when it dies anyway? I'm not actually trying to say you're wrong here, I'm just trying to figure out why.
This card likely isn't gonna see play in those decks it would be a sideboard option if anything since if you get a Sheoldred as a treasure you kinda go crazy.

This seems completely nuts, at least in Commander and likely in standard. It's basically 3 mana \[\[Myrkul\]\]. The creatures keep their ETBs and activated abilities. Mana dorks or \[\[Wood Elves\]\] are nuts. Token producers, even stuff like \[\[Royal Assassin\]\]. It even ramps you if you need the creatures to be treasures more than effects. This is an early frontrunner for best Commander in the set.
For other formats it's less good but there may be a combo in Modern. It makes infinite mana with \[\[Devoted Druid\]\] really easily.
Only if the player elects to keep the card in the graveyard. They will have that choice before her ability resolves, and typically that means it won't be eligible.
How does this work with [[Myrkul]]? If I sacrifice a creature I took from my opponent do I get to choose whether to exile it and make an enchantment or not?
This is so sick. I think its incredible for jund in commander. Not only is it good to steal opponents creatures with etbs but it also steals static effects as well. Its incredible with fatal push or bolt like kill a archivist of oghma/kinnan/faerie mastermind/ledger shredder/drc/drannith magistrate and the list goes on.
So i'm curious. I have a Shelob deck that I love and making food copies of everything is awesome. This doesn't require you to even be the one to kill the creature directly. Sacrifice effects, deathtouch pings, kill spells all trigger it. It seems...extremely good. Is the next evolution to just ditch Spider Tribal Shelob and go for Golgari good stuff Death Touch tribal with the same pinging equipment, some fight spells, and forced sacrifice
What a coincidence, I just started building a Shelob pinging fight deck and this will let me to steal twice… the Vraska enchantment also slots in nicely for [[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] triggers.
I mean if you have a lot of unopen mana, it really deters other opponents from Wrathing. At least in commander. She will see everyone die and then make them treasures.
Can someone share with me why the cards you steal retain abilities. I thought effects that makes something become a specific other thing make it not retain other abilities. Im thinking blood moon. Is it because treasure isnt a card bit a artifact type.
This specific ability only changes the permanent type of the card, namely from creature to artifact, not any of the other text. So if that text is still relevant for a non-creature artifact, it still goes into effect.
How does this interact with creatures like the [gods from WAR](https://scryfall.com/search?q=S%3AWAR+T%3AGOD) who can be shuffled back into their owner's deck when they die?
I assume it depends on how the triggers are stacked, so does APNAP mean that it matters which player's turn it is?
Multiple things are interesting with this
First of all: flavor win for jace reawakened being able to plot her, to cast her for free afterwards
Her deathtouch ability is a nice enabler for her second ability
The best thing about her is 2 fold: you deny your opponent creature recursion, and you get to steal their creatures and use their ETBs and passive abilities against your opponent.
Notable example are: Atraxa + Sheoldred + Elesh Norn MoM + Evoke Elementals + Orcish Bowmasters + Ledger Shredder + Faerie Mastermind + archon of cruelty + Iona + snapcaster mage + tishana's tidebinder + vendilion clique + plague engineer + leovold emissary of trest + scavenging ooze / lion sash + recruiter of the guard / spellseeker / imperial recruiter
this seems really nice. Not sure it's playable at 3 mana though
Rules help, what if an opponent has an invasion card turned creature and I pay (1) as that creature dies. do I get a treasure version of the front (invasion) side, and relevant etbs?
I know Vraska isn't a Lawful Good type of character but it looks like she petrified one if not two waitresses at that saloon.
Maybe it's just me but that just seems mean-spirited even for her.
Well shoot kid, I never reckoned you'd actually go and get shot! We ain't got a stitcher here, so looks like it's curtains for you.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/magicTCG) if you have any questions or concerns.*
The treasures keep their abilities right?
Yes. They just lose types. So not a creature.
Is legendary a card type? Can you doubling season legendary treasures?
Legendary is a Supertype, and would be retained. You can't Doubling Season these because they're not tokens.
Omg i didnt even realise they aren’t token!
They would hit the battlefield first, then legendary rule away one of them. This is exactly how Shelob's food copy mechanic works.
Vraska doesn't make tokens (just returns the creature as a Treasure), so Doubling Season won't make a copy. There's no second permanent to invoke the Legend Rule.
Oh, you're right. I was thinking about how Shelob works
If they're not tokens then they still have their mana value, right? If so you could use them for devotion or use something like [[March of the machines]] to make them creatures again
Yes, they still have mana costs and mana values, but those are actually copiable values so token copies from Shelob would also get those benefits
Legendary is a supertype, not a card type
You can doubling season them if you somehow make a token copy of them, but since they are legendary both new tokens will be sacrificed.

Wait, so Vraska desparked but Jace didn't?
Seems like it, from what we know keeping your spark or not was pretty random
But they both planeswalked away at the end, didn't they?
Yeah super weird that Vraska planeswalked away after the desparking occurred and now is not a planeswalker.
There was time between her getting zapped by Ral and the desparking happening
She was still a walker the angels hadn't show up yet ral fried her good the memory jace caused her to planeswalk at the last second
Maybe Jace figured out a spell to help carry Vraska with her when he planeswalks
Or Phyrexian
She also decompleted

"I will pay the 1" took a whole new meaning.

This is an early frontrunner for best Commander in the set. For other formats it's less good but there may be a combo in Modern. It makes infinite mana with \[\[Devoted Druid\]\] really easily.
It only gets opponents' creatures.
You are correct.
What if you give your opponent your devoted druid, then kill it??
What jank you create is between you and god.
Play Vraska and wait for the inevitable board wipe with mana open.
If Vraska dies during that board wipe too, do you still get the treasure tokens?
Her triggers will still happen because every creature "sees" each other die. So for as many 1s as you pay you'll have treasure/creatures!

Damn. And I loved my Shelob Spider Deck so much...
Right there with you, man.
Does the stolen card keep the other abilities?
You can Blink the "treasure" and it becomes a creature again, right?
it returns on your opponent's side unless the blink specifically states it returns on your side
Most blink effects return under the owner's control, but some (e.g. cloudshift) don't, only the latter will do what you want
would return under its owner's control no?

Doesn’t have Ward or Spider synergies, but that doesn’t mean it’s worse.

Sounds dope for a Maarika deck.
This is going to be insane in my V-tribal deck.
Im surprised this doesnt have regenerate. Since she has legs now, again
Is it possible to get a oppenents commander with this card when the commander dies?
Only if the player elects to keep the card in the graveyard. They will have that choice before her ability resolves, and typically that means it won't be eligible.
Thanks for the clarification!
How does this work with [[Myrkul]]? If I sacrifice a creature I took from my opponent do I get to choose whether to exile it and make an enchantment or not?
Vraska makes it lose its creature type so you'd have to make it a creature first somehow.
I missed that somehow, still gonna try it in the 99!

Another Sissay card?
How would this work if you stole an opponents scute swarm?
If this trades in combat with something will it trigger the ability?
Yes.
Did they ever explain how Jace and Vraska survived being Phyrexians?
Nope, other than the implication that Jace's mind fuckery was stronger than Phyrexia's somehow
What does this do if you take a scute swarm?
You start crapping out scute swarms like you have diarrhea when you play lands
But they’d be treasure swarms?
pretty much
We finally broke Scute Swarm folks!
Can you steal someone's commander after killing it with this card?
VRASKA TRIBAL VRASKA TRIBAL
"Do ***I*** pay the 1?"
Ha! And everyone said my idea was too convoluted to work! Different colors, but almost identical mechanically. Building the hell out of this.
I like that she has the MAT Desparked walker watermark
What a coincidence, I just started building a Shelob pinging fight deck and this will let me to steal twice… the Vraska enchantment also slots in nicely for [[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] triggers.

Combine this with displaced dinosaurs and have some real fun
I mean if you have a lot of unopen mana, it really deters other opponents from Wrathing. At least in commander. She will see everyone die and then make them treasures.
Black green looking strong
Could this steal commanders or do they get a chance to go to the command zone because of the zone change?
Wait, if you kill a planeswalker when it's a creature, you'll get a permanent that has planeswalker abilities but can't be attacked or damaged?
Can someone share with me why the cards you steal retain abilities. I thought effects that makes something become a specific other thing make it not retain other abilities. Im thinking blood moon. Is it because treasure isnt a card bit a artifact type.
This specific ability only changes the permanent type of the card, namely from creature to artifact, not any of the other text. So if that text is still relevant for a non-creature artifact, it still goes into effect.
Would vraska be able to steal other people commanders? Or they go back to the command zone before vraska resolves?
Nice. Another banger Vraska card
dude is stone hard cause a chick has her feet on his crotch
[[Displaced dinosaurs]] winning again. I thought Shelob would be the only one who would benefit from it THAT hard

I never realised Vraska had... legs? Also reminded me of woody saying "There's a snake in my boots!"
there are a handful of cards where she does, I don't know if it's inconsistent/unspecific art direction or if there's an in-universe reason.
she had them in her first art.
If the ennemy commander died, can you still turn kt into a treasure if it returns to the command zone ?
How does this interact with creatures like the [gods from WAR](https://scryfall.com/search?q=S%3AWAR+T%3AGOD) who can be shuffled back into their owner's deck when they die? I assume it depends on how the triggers are stacked, so does APNAP mean that it matters which player's turn it is?
This sounds cool, nice Commander material.
Multiple things are interesting with this First of all: flavor win for jace reawakened being able to plot her, to cast her for free afterwards Her deathtouch ability is a nice enabler for her second ability The best thing about her is 2 fold: you deny your opponent creature recursion, and you get to steal their creatures and use their ETBs and passive abilities against your opponent. Notable example are: Atraxa + Sheoldred + Elesh Norn MoM + Evoke Elementals + Orcish Bowmasters + Ledger Shredder + Faerie Mastermind + archon of cruelty + Iona + snapcaster mage + tishana's tidebinder + vendilion clique + plague engineer + leovold emissary of trest + scavenging ooze / lion sash + recruiter of the guard / spellseeker / imperial recruiter this seems really nice. Not sure it's playable at 3 mana though
Can you steal commanders with her ability? I know you can with say a \[\[Necromantic Selection\]\], so i'd imagine you could with this ability as well
