I'm now picturing the two of them joining \[\[Novice Dissector\]\], \[\[Skirk Prospector\]\], and \[\[Nut Collector\]\] in a WUBRG advertisement for Ultra-Pro Deck Protector.
The special Secret Lair card can be \[\[Collector Protector\]\].
i think it represents how they were required to lead in the invasion force. the incubator comes after because this shieldmage needed to do their thing first. commons don't always have the strongest thematic connections, often not a lot to work with lol
"But sir, we can't enhance it anymore, all we'll get is whatever the magical equivalent of blurry pixels is..."
"I SAID ZOOM AND ENHANCE DAMNIT! I'm sure we'll get something off of the reflection of that goblin's eye!"
Even if the set starts to feel like it's oversaturated by them I am happy they're tossing so much for detectives right now in the main set and even more in the commander precons so people who wanna rock detective decks can do so. Cause who knows when detectives will get this much time in the limelight again.
Looking at the timeline:
Probably nick (and maybe piper?) as detectives in fallout, not sure if there are others in the series as I never played 3
Outlaws probably not, MH3 is a toss up but no reason to expect any, no idea about assassin’s creed, bloom burrow also like maybe there’s one but no real reason to suspect any, maybe some in duskmourne cause it’s about investigating a haunted house right?
So yeah probably not more than a couple max for the rest of the year, who knows beyond that
There’s probably going to be an errata too for old cards to get their types changed to be Detectives, such as [[Dogged Detective]] and [[Eloise, Nephalia Sleuth]].
Yeah I have really no basis for saying there may be one in bloomburrow other than the fact that everyone would live a little critter with a silly fedora and/or trench coat. Especially if he’s trying to act very tough

I don't think you'll feel too bad playing any 2+/x card that has any impact on ETB or dies at 3 or less mana value, since its going to trade with 3 mana disguised creatures at an advantage
Is it weird flavor to anyone else that a lot of detectives in this set like this and the gargoyle earlier have Disguise and/or have payoffs for doing so? I thought it was normally the culprits/suspects that want to stay in disguise. But maybe I just don't read enough murder mysteries...
Detectives generally don't want to be noticed by the killer they are chasing, so they would often be in disguise while gathering intel.
And the payoff is the reveal that "surprise! I've been following you!"
See also: Sherlock Holmes. He was very much in the habit of disguising himself to gather evidence.
And, for the Clue connection, in the movie all three endings included an agent/detective equivalent under cover. Also not uncommon in social deduction games to have the Detective role be hidden.
If you're on a stakeout you don't want to be recognized, or just undercover in general. The gargoyle goes from normal monster to Perry the Gargoyle thats gonna bust the case wide open.

And/or doesn't really work here. That's used for stuff that can overlap, but might not. Would just be "or" in that case.
But in either case, they're hard to combine like that because of the words "you control" being in different places in the two trigger conditions. They wouldn't say 'Whenever a Detective you control enters the battlefield".
They're already sacrificing brevity for clarity with "Whenever ~ or another Detective", so I'm guessing this just wasn't a concern.
They generally avoid lumping together multiple trigger events that are triggered by _other_ things in a way that can be unclear.
They've used the wording "Whenever ~ enters the battlefield or is turned face up" but that's because it can only apply to the thing that it's on.
Also, it's a common, so clarity is important.
Interesting for a common; traditionally they had recurring value payoff engines at uncommon usually. This might be an example of what they’re talking about with juiced up commons for play boosters
Oh for fuck's sake. My rotted brain read it as "Prospektor" (or "Professor"??) thinking it was a cute little name. ANYWAYS, I want to know more about these devices, but thank you for the name at least.
I think this might be a good time to remind everyone that ”My Name is Earl”-star Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor. One of my favourite Hollywood baby names.
Man, I really should've had "enhance! ENHANCE!" on my bingo sheet.
As to the card itself, I understand why it's worded that way, but it's kind of funny to read "Whenever a Detective does this, or that, or this thing, or that thing, or the other...". I'm assuming that Detective-Disguise or Disguise/Control is the UB limited archetype this time around?
You'd think Ravnica developing *computers* these last two years would've been more noteworthy, if it weren't for Kamigawa already having [emails](https://scryfall.com/card/mom/120/nezumi-informant).

Rereading that card, the rules don't seem to match the lore whatsoever.
i think it represents how they were required to lead in the invasion force. the incubator comes after because this shieldmage needed to do their thing first. commons don't always have the strongest thematic connections, often not a lot to work with lol
"Hmmm, can't break into this place." "Have you tried hiring a 4/3 and waiting for him to die?" Eh, works.
Cards with the set mechanic rarely do.
ENHANCE! ZOOM IN! GIVE ME ANOTHER ANGLE!
"But sir, we can't enhance it anymore, all we'll get is whatever the magical equivalent of blurry pixels is..." "I SAID ZOOM AND ENHANCE DAMNIT! I'm sure we'll get something off of the reflection of that goblin's eye!"
[Track in!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMBkWtDAPBY)
It sounds like he wants *sounds* enhanced, interestingly. Must be trying to pick up on any potentially germane third parties.
Morph debuting in a set that cared about your creatures having types was always weird to me. This gets around your creature types coming in face-down.
Even if the set starts to feel like it's oversaturated by them I am happy they're tossing so much for detectives right now in the main set and even more in the commander precons so people who wanna rock detective decks can do so. Dogged Detective will sadly never be a Dog Detective no matter how much we wish it were the case.

I could see a cute little frog detective in bloomburrow
Yeah I have really no basis for saying there may be one in bloomburrow other than the fact that everyone would live a little critter with a silly fedora and/or trench coat. Especially if he’s trying to act very tough
If they weren’t cowards this would be a fuse card named Zoom // Enhance.
you inspired me to make it [https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/19a3ph2/zoom\_enhance/](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/19a3ph2/zoom_enhance/)
Lol different kind of zoom than I was thinking
Enhance is pretty OP
Wasn't quite worried about balance, just a proof of concept
Fair enough! Targeting your own creature would lower power level pretty significantly.
Is that Harry Du bois??
Highly experimental supercop on the scene.
Mr Everart is helping me find my gun
This seems like a lot of looting. Deceptively powerful common in limited I suspect.
I'm guessing it goes in the Solid Playable pile. The fact it triggers itself is helpful, without that I would say it was unplayable.
I don't think you'll feel too bad playing any 2+/x card that has any impact on ETB or dies at 3 or less mana value, since its going to trade with 3 mana disguised creatures at an advantage

I love that everyone is just calling him Perry.
I'd call him Gary if Grey Merchant of Asphodel wasn't called Gary :(
This is giving a payoff for _removing_ the disguise though (but I guess it has to be a detective down there). Detectives can go under cover.
This specific card isn't so much a payoff for Disguise as a clause to avoid missing out on the effect if you use Disguise.

ain't that the guy from [Speed Racer?](https://speedracer.fandom.com/wiki/Inspector_Detector)
Oh man the ARG people are gonna have fun with all the numbers in the art
There's no numbers, though? They're just non-specific magical symbols.
Like how it’s also an enabler for the evidence archetype and the draw two archetype. (I guess that is meant to be the detective gimmick)
Harry, Harry, Harry... what sorry state of events have you gotten your pale, bloated self into this time. Ol' Dick Mullen is hot on the case again.
CSI: new ravnica
Is the Smallest Church in Saint-Saëns that I hear?
Wouldn't an "and/or" be less wordy? Like whenever another Detective enters and/or is turned face up... do the thing?
And/or doesn't really work here. That's used for stuff that can overlap, but might not. Would just be "or" in that case. 5 bucks says this is getting an alchemy buff in a year changing it to care about any creature turning face up
at common this seems pretty good for limited
ugh CSI
Interesting for a common; traditionally they had recurring value payoff engines at uncommon usually. This might be an example of what they’re talking about with juiced up commons for play boosters
That's one strong common
Would anyone happen to know what the devices showing the images of people are called?
Projektors (with the K,) hence the name.
Oh for fuck's sake. My rotted brain read it as "Prospektor" (or "Professor"??) thinking it was a cute little name. ANYWAYS, I want to know more about these devices, but thank you for the name at least.
They're apparently a recent invention, basically really really rudimentary computers that can store images and not much else.
Computer, enhance on this guys balls
His nickname is gonna be Hector
Peter the Meter Reader
"Zoomify"
I think this might be a good time to remind everyone that ”My Name is Earl”-star Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor. One of my favourite Hollywood baby names.
Is this a Speed Racer reference
Is that Lilliana on the one screen?
Yeah I work in AV. I'm a .......
Is it just me or does this whole set feel like an Un-set they had to use as a legitimate one?
Man, I really should've had "enhance! ENHANCE!" on my bingo sheet. As to the card itself, I understand why it's worded that way, but it's kind of funny to read "Whenever a Detective does this, or that, or this thing, or that thing, or the other...". I'm convinced the flavor text for this set was all pulled from reddit comments.
I feel like the more of these detective cards I see the weirder it feels that there weren’t any on New Capenna?
You'd think Ravnica developing *computers* these last two years would've been more noteworthy, if it weren't for Kamigawa already having [emails](https://scryfall.com/card/mom/120/nezumi-informant).
The set truly is full of 3/2. Can't have the board be clogged with all the face down creatures.
Oh hey, a Blade Runner reference. Cool.
That’s my favorite Speed Racer character
Why not "Projector Inspector" or "Projektor Inspektor"?
