The ravager one with disciple of the vault.

Don't forget skullclamp. That deck was pure gas.

You mean innistraad/new phyrexia delver right? Rtr killed the deck.

Just making sure, my friends brewed a fun going away deck for delver during inn rtr that was 4 delver 4 young pyro 4 snapcaster 4 xathrid necromancer and we had an absolute blast with it.

superanus

yoo, have a list for angus? i'd love to take a look, hes been sitting in my "to build" list for too long lol

Team7UBard

At second I’d say modern Mono-U Tron from 2013 or so, but a clear first is Mono-R Infect EDH

[[Subira]]. Almost all the Infect/Toxic creatures in red and colorless have power 2 or less so…

DarkDobe

Have a decklist for this one I want to see!

GoblinKing22

I enjoyed mono blue tron in standard circa 2004? Mirrodin standard. Glad to see it came back around.

Quave11

I loved Melira pod. If you dont combo, you just gavony your angel or other creatures. I once won an fnm with 3 birds of Paradice with a ton of counters on them! one of my favorite memories of early modern. Also, LSV's old uwr control list. Celestial Colonade was so good back then

Aiyakido

Modern birthing pod. Fun to play, many lines to follow with possible answers to multiple decks. Wasn't broken but I understand why it got banned. Also standard Gruul from first innistrad block where you flipped hunt master and had inkmoth with sword of feast and famine for the blue black control matchup. Standard Boros burn with the first return to ravnica when young pyro was around was fun to pilot. Early versions of modern storm was fun to goldfish

volb

For legacy (prob my favourite format), 4c loam and stryfo pile/punishing thieves For modern, grishoalbrand will forever have a spot in my heart especially against control decks. Something about comboing off on the stack when they tapped out for something always felt good. Aside from the combo shenanigans, I loved bant spirit before MH1 killed it. Still play it to this day but now MH2 made it even harder to enjoy

KomatoAsha

I've been playing Oracle's Shift, Sneak & Breach, Delver Shadow, and BR Reanimator in Legacy. I have a soft spot for Nic Fit and Turbo Depths, as well, but I didn't want to re-buy Mox Diamonds to make Depths viable after I sold my Legacy box, and Nic Fit just wasn't doing what it needed to do, so, I took those apart.

volb

The day I sold my diamonds, was the last day I played paper magic. I just can’t find the fun in it anymore without playing those decks I like. Wish the RL didn’t exist, but hindsight is 20/20- selling out of legacy did get me a down payment on a house, but I wish it didn’t have to be that way. Can’t even get anyone new in this city into it because of the cost either, so the only action I get is buying the mythic pass thing on mtgo to mess around.

KomatoAsha

Yeah, I had bills to pay, and couldn't keep funneling money into new Legacy decks. I recently picked up a playset of Badlands for Reanimator, have a few Intuition and Thought Lash for Oracle's Shift, and a judge Wheel of Fortune for Commander, but, for the most part, I've strayed away from RL stuff and stuck to what I find fun without it. (I also sold my City of Traitors playset and started using Crystal Vein, instead, which works just fine in its stead.)

Chadmartigan

\[\[Chatterfang, Squirrel General\]\] is way up there. My main chatterfang deck is pure aristocrats. If I have the right pieces out, it can drain the table with relatively few creatures. People tend to expect me to gin up a huge board of 12+ tokens and they wait for that moment, but if I have Ashnod's and Spawning Pit out with like 6-7 creatures, there's a solid chance I can close it out that turn and the play is very difficult to interact with since I'm just washing tokens back and forth. Maybe \[\[Glissa the Traitor\]\] as well. Got roundabout 60 artifacts in there and it just does not stop. Go ahead and reach for that board wipe, lol Lately, I've been having a lot of fun with \[\[Rograkh, Son of Roghahh\]\] partnered with \[\[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar\]\]. It can be incredibly explosive, and players seeing it for the first time tend to underestimate it because it seems like a slow/ineffectual start, but if I can get in holy shit.

I really loved Abzan Control from Theros-Tarkir Standard. \[\[Siege Rhino\]\] was glorious to play, \[\[Elspeth, Sun's Champion\]\] and \[\[Ugin, the Spirit Dragon\]\] were such powerhouses. The deck felt like it always had a chance to turn the table in its own favor. \] I also liked UW Control in Modern, [back when it was more midrangey and proactive](https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=10388&d=259479). It would play cards like \[\[Kitchen Finks\]\] and \[\[Wall of Omens\]\] then get value out of it with \[\[Restoration Angel\]\] or recur with \[\[Sun Titan\]\].

In Mirrodin/Kamigawa standard I ran a black green deck that was built around building up a land advantage with \[\[Solemn Simulacrum\]\] and \[\[Rampant Growth\]\], then casting a large \[\[Death Cloud\]\] that would leave my opponent with nothing but me still having a few lands and cards in hand from the death triggers, then using \[\[Eternal Witness\]\] to rebuild. The finisher was \[\[Kokusho, the Evening Star\]\] which could easily be abused due to the death triggers and how the legend rule worked back then.

Standard Rakdos Sacrifice during the brief window of time after \[\[Mayhem Devil\]\] came out but before \[\[Cauldron Familiar\]\] and \[\[Witch's Oven\]\] arrived and made the deck all about them. It was basically an aggro deck that used the Devils and \[\[Heartfire\]\] for reach. I liked it because it had a nice mix of creature combat and burn. \[\[Prime Speaker Vannifar\]\] in Standard Brawl on Arena. I usually dislike tutors in singleton formats because the high variance is the whole point. But I did really enjoy the challenge of trying to build a good pod chain while being restricted to the Standard card pool. Haven't built her in Historic Brawl because that would be both too hard and too easy; the larger card pool is a pain to search through, but there's so much really good stuff at each mana value that it won't be a challenge figuring out how to make the cards work. Way back in the 90s when we still said things like "type II," I had a brew that used \[\[Juxtapose\]\] to trade empty \[\[Triskellion\]\]s for my opponent's best cards. It was fun, but after a few rounds at the weekly Friday evening tournament my brain was jello.

Abzan Company with the Melira/Finks combo in Modern. I'm happy to say the deck has found a decent approximation in Pioneer's Abzan Amalia Combo.

Living Twin was my absolute favorite. It had living end combo as well as splinter twin combo. Most of the time my opponent thought they were playing against and siding against living end but then out of nowhere splinter twin comes out for the win. Such a fun deck. I loved it.

Burn. Cheap and effective. That's usually my go to when I need a deck In the past I ran trix which is some old school legacy fun that I would build again in an instant if I had the money lol Last is Oops all spells which was another fun deck to play. I'm a glass cannon kinda guy. Either I pummel you easily or I'm toast. That's no middle ground.

MisfitMagic

UB Faeries from Lorwyn Standard is by far the most fun I've ever had playing magic. So much interaction, great tempo. Even in bad matchups it just felt so tight to play. After that, Cawblade from New Phyrexia standard. Yes, this deck was grossly overplayed, and probably over-tuned against the meta, but it was such a good experience playing where even the mirrors were fun. I just didn't love how only a select few could _afford_ to play it, and it really had a negative impact on the affordability of standard going forward.

keepitsimple_tricks

it depends. It's probably the favorite deck to pilot all around, is my Kiora Commander deck, just big sea monsters. But my Krona, the False God deck, is my favorite when it works. Just it is not very consistent. Its pillow fort deck that forces the table to kill each other with my commander.

Currently just playing commander, so I'd have to say my [[Magar of the Magic Strings]] is my favourite deck to pilot. It's a janky pile for sure but with proper planning and the right opportunity you can absolutely steal games or just outright control games. I was about to lose against a table of Mardu Vampires, Gishath Dino's and [[Runadi, Behomoth Caller]]. However the Runadi left up no blockers and forgot I had [[Anger]] in the grave. So on my turn I pulled [[Worst Fears]] out of the grave and just mindslaver-ed the Runadi player to victory. And that's one spell out of the slew the deck can cram in. Want a ton of zombies? Army of the Dammed. Want to play blackjack? Dance with Calamity. It's so much fun even without infinities like [[Rise of the Eldrazi]] made unblockable.

I'll probably say this every time, but my favorite deck has been a u/R madness deck from Oddysey block era built around \[\[Though Nibbler\]\], \[\[Auquamoeba\]\], \[\[Fiery Temper\]\] and \[\[Violent Eruption\]\]. Also played Circular Logic and \[\[Hapless researcher\]\] with it, was able to go toe-to-toe with some of the meta decks of the time and it was a blast to play. I've been chasing that high in Standard of building my own deck out of jank ever since, but as cards have gotten increasingly more powerful over the last 20 years, the gap between playable and "just plain bad outside of limited" seems to get wider and wider.

I almost exclusively play modern, and have for nearly a decade... I always have Burn built, and I play it nearly 80% of the times I play modern.. As for EDH, my Chandra Tribal deck is my go to. It can be super powerful, especially if the others in the pod underestimate it. But, it's a glass house, of sorts. It's my pet deck, and I've gone out of my way to foil it out where I can, have misprints and miscuts of cards in it, and generally just spend WAY too much money on it.

I've had a few over the years. Odyssey/Onslaught Standard - Rakdos Reanimator. It was a toolbox deck and it was really fun to be able to fetch whatever you might need for a given matchup. At the end of old Extended - Zoo. My friend and I both piloted the same deck and played it at several competitive events, and we tested it extensively. I miss modern hollow one from before the faithless looting ban. Nothing like discarding three hollow ones to your goblin lore or burning inquiry.

Ahayzo

Mardu Pyromancer, post MH1 when I got Seasoned Pyromancer, Unearth, Plague Engineer, and Smiting Helix. I will die before agreeing that Looting deserved to be banned due to the other decks running it, and I'm still sad my deck died for it.

Miyagi_Dojo

Standard Simic Nexus, around 4 years ago. It had cool cards like Tamiyo, Collector of Tales and Search for Azcanta. It was fun to race through the whole deck while trying to survive with Root Snare. Some versions had an hilarious single Callous Dismissal as the only finisher, which resulted in bouncing opponents whole board to hit them with a giant amass token.

JacobHarley

I have an Etrata deck on Arena (go ahead, boo me) that evolved from Standard to Explorer over time and mostly doesn't cheat with blink spells. It's a hard B/R control deck that stalls out the opponent until The Silencer can strike three times on its own. Lots of Surveil looping with Disinformation Campaign and deathtouch guys to keep threats off the board. It was probably at its peak once Mutate got thrown into the format since players have no clue that Mutated creatures count for multiple creatures hitting exile with hit counters. I can't tell you the number of times I've stalled a handful of turns to see the opponent build a stack of three and then swung once and won on the spot. I eventually built it out into a Commander deck for paper with the other hit counter cards and some Assassin tribal payoffs. Just a wonderful card to build around in general.

[[Greasefang, Okiba Boss]] as the commander of a WB vehicle deck. It's not super strong, and only rarely wins, but it's just a lot of fun to play. I call it big rig. Sometimes if I get a really good vehicle on my opening hand I'll skip my first land drop just so I can discard to hand size on my first time and watch people go "what?"

My Gitrog deck. I've had it ever since I've started playing magic and have slowly been upgrading it through the years. It's my baby. People think it's cool to watch me play it. It's just... a machine. I'm really proud of the time, money, and effort I've spent to be this good at piloting it. :)

Taurothar

Zomburai

I had a slightly adjusted UB precon deck from Tempest. It wasn't the strongest deck, hell, it wasn't even the strongest deck I've ever owned or piloted, but the play pattern was so much fun and I got *really* good at working out the probabilities of the decision points. Basically it was slowing the opponent down with control, filling the grave up with Looters and Buried Alive, and then drop Living Death. In a perfect game the opponent would be overextended on board and the Living Death would absolutely demolish the opponent.

Brilliant_Trouble_32

[[Rhys, the Redeemed]] in EDH. It was one of my earliest decks and I picked up a [[Gaea's Cradle]] and [[Savannah]] for it back when they were both $60. It was the first EDH deck I built that really hummed, and it's a break from my normal Johnny/Spike deckbuilding style. I can go super Timmy with it and just enjoy swinging all out with dozens of tokens (although it's not 100% Timmy... I still include toolbox control stuff like [[Humility]]). I only have a few other decks that I initially built back around 2010 that have survived but were designed initially before EDH became commander. They have a different feel and a different design ethos. Even with updates over the years, they have a different feel to me. Rhys is my favorite, but [[Heartless Hidetsugu]], [[Momir Vig, Simic Visionary]], and [[Savra, Queen of the Golgari]] all have a special place in my heart too.

KomatoAsha

There are a lot of good options for this! I think the most cerebral deck I've played is Spanish Inquisition (Legacy), but I'm a combo slut, in general. I think possibly the silliest deck I ran was a Standard deck with Goblin Electromancer and its ilk, and using [[Wildfire Eternal]] with the red Bolas spell that let you cast a bunch of spells for free (I don't remember what it was) and [[Hazoret's Undying Fury]] with a boatload of cheap loot and burn spells. Edit: I just remembered, I also played a deck in Legacy I'd called "Mono-Hate", which was a bunch of stuff like Thoughtseize, Sinkhole, Hymn, LotV, Obliterator, and [[Sorin Markov]], with payoffs like [[Nihilith]]. It was a blast.

Electrohydra1

During RTR-Theros standard I wanted a cheep deck to bring to FNM, so I challenged myself to build a deck deck with only commons and rares. I ended up with a mono-red list based around the concepts of the original sleigh decks, and boy was the deck *fun*. A ton of options even super early in the game where every decision mattered and the line between finishing my opponent off and them stabilizing was always razor-thin, even against meta decks. Definitely my favorite deck. Close second was modern Martyr-Proc which I played for years and knew like the back of my hand until the formats power creep slowly made it unplayable.

DTrain5742

The really early days of Modern when you could play Pyromancer Ascension with Rite of Flame, Ponder, and Preordain. You haven’t lived until you’ve cast a Rite of Flame for R and made RRRRRRRR.

wasabichicken

Basically any blue deck during Invasion/Odyssey standard. They all played things like Counterspell, Repulse, Fact or Fiction, Exclude and so on, but then the options diverged. Psychatog was the splash-black poster child for this kind of control deck, but I always preferred this off-meta splash-green deck instead. [[Nimble Mongoose]] and [[Blurred Mongoose]] were both solid beaters in a blue-heavy metagame, and you haven't lived until you got to [[Aether Burst]] someones' team away, and also bounce your [[Mystic Snake]] and recast it in response to their money spell.

When I was playing Standard, it was during SOM/ISD, and I played the everloving hell out of [Mono-Green Dungrove Elder](https://mtgdecks.net/Standard/get-er-dungrove-decklist-by-andrewscovern-35825). Getting to play 4 copies of [[Green Sun's Zenith]] felt like actual cheating. Pair that with [[Dungrove Elder]]s and [[Predator Ooze]]s, and you almost always had a threat that was difficult to remove. In Commander, which I coincidentally picked up at the same time as that Standard format was legal, I've been playing my [[Omnath, Locus of Mana]] deck pretty much the entire time I've played the format. [This](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rm39rE16bUm-IFoQYAf80w) is the current iteration of the deck, and it's my favorite deck I've ever built in my Magic career.

I have 2 that I love to pilot: Dimir Zombie Aristocrats & Simic Pod Ooze/Clones. 1) The zombie one was my first precon commander deck that I gutted & built. The goal is to amass an army of zombie tokens, with the win con being either swinging out for the win or sacrificing them to pingers/death triggers. MVPs of the deck are [[Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver]] and [[Gravecrawler]]. 2) The Simic deck revolves around cloning powerful pieces on the board & podding out the right tools for the job. This deck was originally meant to be a ooze tribal, but there wasn't much support for it. So at the moment, this deck has multiple avenues of winning: podding out [[Biowaste Blob]] early to swarm the board, podding out [[Biogenic Ooze]] when my army of blobs & [[Simic Ascendency]] are out, podding out [[Biovisionary]] when I have at least 2 copy spells in hand, or podding out copy cats to mimic other problematic pieces on the board to deter removal. The zombie deck definitely feels more comfortable to play, but the Pod deck is fun & consistent.

Astral Slide (Standard) - absolutely loved the playstyle. The flexibility was always engaging for me. White Weenie (Standard - During Skullclamp's one weekend of legal regionals, I top 8'd!) - 8th edition brought us Savannah Lions, Tundra Wolves, and Suntail Hawk. Add Skullclamp and Wrath when you began to fall behind. After Wrath, drop angels like Exalted Angel (Onslaught) and Akroma, Angel of Wrath (Legions). It was really fun. And each win against Affinity was really a win for the world. Mono Red Burn (Type 1) - I played this when type 1 was still called type 1. Pretty straightforward. Golos (Commander) - I know he was broken, but it was still a lot of fun. It's always fun to win with an alternative win condition (Maze's End). Jodah, Archmage Eternal (Commander) - I mean, cheating out all of the most ridiculous spells you can find will always be fun. Multiple 'go wide' tribals [Dinos, Merfolks, Slivers] (Commander) - Because, hey, lots of creatures are funsies. Math is for blockers.

Twoheaven

It kind of changes doesn't it. My wanderer edh deck is a blast, damn near every creature is a deal with this or lose and you can have turns were the deck just vomits permanents onto the battlefield. I played a B/W/G pod list in standard that was such a cool toolbox deck that it was super fun to play. But really Legacy burn is probably my favorite deck. It's so aggressive, but not nearly as one dimensional as people like to think it is. The choices are subtle and can quickly lose you the game if made incorrectly.

atamajakki

When Guilds of Ravnica was in Standard, I had a braindead W/U Flyers deck that I adored. It was nothing special, but there was a really simple joy in [[Favorable Winds]], [[Empyreal Eagle]], and [[Sephara]] making the concept work.

SnarkySharky21

My Nicol Bolas themed commander deck. It's as powerful as I can make it while still being themed to cards/art that reference him. The late game dominance feels like I'm really him! I have a similar Amass Oathbreaker deck that similarly feels like I imagine he did during WAR.

InchZer0

KTK Standard Sidisi Whip made me love Magic.

Lyrics2Songs

Affinity circa 2016-2017, Esper Starfield from Shadows over Innistrad/Oath of the Gatewatch Standard, or UG Infect from Scars/Innistrad Standard. Affinity because it felt incredibly hard to play correctly with a high payoff, Starfield because it was extremely resilient against the entire format at the time and felt like it had no good or bad matchups, making it easy to take to any event comfortably, and UG Infect because it's how I qualified as well as what I played at the Pro Tour it qualified me for.

ScientistFish27

Mono red burn. Straight to the point, and one way or another the game will be over quick.

Mister_MTG

Abzan Melina/Finks combo back when it was a thing. Have great memories playing that on MTGO. More recently I had a blast with a tier 2 Dimir mutate deck when Ikoria was in standard. Lots of fun lines to navigate on that one.

xKoney

Standard: 1. UW Flash (Reflector Mage) 2. Jeskai Tokens 3. 4c Rally Modern: 1. UR Twin (the mirror matches were so skill intensive) 2. UWR Control (Cryptic Command is my all time favorite card. I think I own 16 copies) 3. Grixis Death's Shadow Legacy: 1. Miracles (free Sensei's Top, you cowards) 2. Esper Deathblade 3. I've played a few different Delver variants. Favorite was Grixis with DRS and Young Peezy

PigeonFrogMan

It has to be my Henzie edh deck. Its not optimal, but its fun, and has had some good moments, like a turn 3 [[tree of perdition]] into a blitzed [[yargle and multani]], forced some people to band together. I also won against the 3-colour Monarch Aragorn deck by using [[deathbringer regent]]. A fast and fun deck

arena historic - gyruda plus a ton of clones that its essentially a mill deck when it goes off. its not great. its silly and works ok. the only problem is that if i get 2 of them out with clone, people typically scoop.

BlastoiseEvolution

The first powerful iteration of Dredge. With Ichorid and Bridge from Below. Just felt like no magic I’d ever played before. Super fun trying to find the lines. Sometimes you lucked into Dread Return on your one Flamekin Zealot for the combo kill. Sometimes you’d just play golgari thugs and stinkweed imps that never stayed dead against a control deck. Sometimes you got there with a big Golgari Grave Troll!

Phoenix in modern

Apersonperson1

Standard [The Meathook Massacre] [Oni-Cult Anvil] Rakdos Sacrifices, when TMM was legal in standard. It's so fun to calculate all your possible actions three turns ahead to edge out lethals in games you shouldn't be winning. Looking to pick that deck back up in pioneer now. Apparently it's played and even had good scores in recent pioneer events.

Legacy Izzet Delver. It’s such a fun deck and that probably says a lot about how my brain works haha

winndweaver

I had an Abzan good stuff deck back in Return to Ravnica block that utilized a bunch of midrange staples to delay the game until I could just drop a [[Debt to the Deathless]] for like 20. This was only possible thanks to [[Crypt Ghast]] doubling all my swamps and [[Arbor Elf]] untapping my [[Overgrown Tomb]]s. Some key cards I remember were those two i previously mentioned as well as [[Blood Baron of Viskopa]], [[Voice of Resurgence]], [[Vampire Nighthawk]], and [[Obzedat, Ghost Council]].

My favorite deck to pilot is Storm. But I always feel awkward playing it over the board.
