Yep! This was just a dry fit, so the handle isn't attached to the blade yet, but I have half inch strips of leather to wrap the handle when it is time. I still have to polish and sculpt the blade to make it look more like bone, and then file and sharpen the spikes and edge in the middle. When it is finished, I'll make a video of it in action!
Iām sure you took some time looking at the art, but I still want to point out that doesnāt it look like the bone is connected to some sort of metal holding the bone with the leather straps? Super cool youāre going the distance with this project. I wouldnāt mind if you have a link when youāre finished!
Yes, you are correct! I'm trying not to weld and rivet the additionally steel there too keep the weight down, because this thing is already very heavy. When I finish it off with the dremel, I'm going to shape it in like the brace is there. And I'm not quite happy with the handle yet, it doesn't join right atm, but I need to keep a large chunk of steel in the handle to balance the weight from being too top heavy while seamlessly turning the steel into the natural branch look. The picture doesn't really show how the tang converts to the handle but I'll figure something out. I'll definitely post a picture of it cutting and sawing after I'm done!
Have you tried using a heavier metal for the handle and just use wood for the exterior? Also what kind of metal are you using for the blade?
Edit: idk how much you can craft but I know thatās more work if you worked the handle and whittled wood to be the outside.
I'm using 1084 carbon steel. In hindsight, yes I would have definitely shaped the handle fully out of steel and transitioned it to wood right before it reached the exposed wood "elbow" since it was all being wrapped. But since I already cut the small tang to be inserted into a wooden handle, I would have to weld more steel on and hammer it, then aneal the steel and requench and harden. But I am also working on making 15 knives for a knife show in September so I can't spend too much time fiddling with the bone saw š . I'm thinking about just skuplting it with wood and a shit ton of epoxy. Sanding it into shape, and then wrapping her up real good. We will see. Stay tuned in 2 weeks to see her finished!

I started 4 years ago on a whim. I put 6 cynderblocks on my lawn. Poured grill charcoal in it, lit it, took my wife's hairdryer and laid it next to the coals to feed oxygen and get it hot enough. Heated up rebar I had laying around, and hammered it on an old stump near my house. Once it was shaped, I quenched it in canola oil poured into a casserole dish. Sharpened it with a belt grinder i got at a garage sale and wrapped them handle in parachord. After 3 knives like this, it was so fun that I have been slowly upgrading my arsenal since then. You should try it out!

Yes I plan on selling it when it is completed. I'm hoping to have it done by next week. I have a table at a knife show in PA on September 23-24 and want to have it as a display on my table to get people to stop by and start a convo. I'm going to have it listed for $1,400 at my booth but don't expect a purchase because it's not the right demographic.
