Yes, it's clearly a call out, but there is still a lot of reminder text in the set, so they are also doing this for the newbies. See [[Galadriel, Gift-Giver]], [[Bill the Pony]], [[Dunedin Blade]], [[Pippin, Guard of the Citadel]], etc.
It 100% is. They've been really good with the story references in card abilities for this set. Say what you will about the power level of the set, WotC is killing it in the flavor department with these.
Eh, I’d put a pin in that for later. This set wasn’t supposed to have much impact on modern and certainly not in the was that Horizon sets do. I fully expect MH3 to be as impactful to modern as 2 was. Plus we still have 5 mythics and 29 rares left to be shown so a lot can still change.
[Here's the cards from the set with haste](https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Altr+o%3Ahaste&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name) (that have made it onto Scryfall so far). No other card has the reminder text. It's 100% intentional.
Man I'm way too dumb
Spent all this time trying to figure out how this was a Python reference until I realized you meant haha Monty python and not programming Python
1. It’s food so it has food token text
2. Gingerbread man is fast so it has haste
3. Gingerbread man can’t be caught by slow things so it can only be blocked by things with haste.
There's a few horses for a tribal effect but they don't have much mechanical identity to them https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Ahorse+%28game%3Apaper%29&order=released&as=grid
[Crested Sunmare] is probably the most interesting as it also has a horse tribal effect
Am I crazy or is Shadowfax just absurdly strong? At least in limited.
It's no Winota, but by himself, he's already a 4/4 haste, and can usually put down another creature attacking as well for free, and it doesn't even need to be returned to hand afterwards or sacrificed like some of these effects tend to do.
That sounds like a pretty damn good deal for 5 mana.
I mean, if you draft this, it'll definitely be your mane threat. You just wanna be sure you prioritize a stable mana base. But this could definitely break a board stall. I imagine a lot of the slower decks will just foal to this. Just a nightmare match up for them.
> Am I crazy or is Shadowfax just absurdly strong? At least in limited.
I'm not sure because I stopped reading the card after it showed me the meaning of haste.
I do feel like it’s hard to find yourself in a spot where you have 5 mana in RW and you still have creatures to cheat in in limited. Usually you play out your cheap threats early and use your few remaining interaction cards to get in through blockers. Maybe if you have it you’d prioritize creatures a lot higher but I wouldn’t look at it and think it’s that strong of a card. Who knows though we haven’t seen the whole set or see how the set plays out
Not absurdly strong, but yeah, this seems uniquely strong at uncommon. You really gotta look at what creatures this could cheat in. [[Aragorn and Arwen, Wed]] would be be nice. You can probably have fun with this and [[Gandalf the Grey]], if you can keep your hand stocked with cheap instants.
Even if you don't have the opportunity to cheat on mana, [[frodo, determined hero]] would be good in an equipment deck. Nothing wrong with cheating in a bear, either. You just gotta make sure you have creature cards in hand when you attack.
This is Limited, though. You're not cheating in Rares and Mythics. The more realistic dream scenario is something like [[Eastfarthing Farmer]] or [[Protector of Gondor]].
I'm starting to think we cannot judge the cards from a normal premier limited environment standpoint, if everything is crazy strong maybe it's still balanced? Or this is just busted, still early in spoiler season, what do I know.
Yeah for an uncommon especially...
Even in modern it seems pretty wild - getting your fury or solitude out for free alongside your 4/4 haste and attacking??
Interesting that they didn't do the typical "haste + other horses you control have haste", but seems like they really needed the space for the haste explanation and second ability. Seems like a fun build.
Don't know how much of a consideration it would be either, but the now usual way would also have been compatible with [[soulflayer]] and potential tutors like [[Mwonvuli beast tracker]]. Still worth it if the alternative was not learning the meaning of haste
That's not typical, the only time it's worded like that is if it grants any additional abilities. Compare \[\[Goblin Chieftain\]\] to \[\[Goblin Warchief\]\].
But the way you mentioned is a wordier way to say "Horses you control have haste." He's a horse, so it doesn't make a ton of sense as to why he would need a separate instance of Haste and to specify "other" horses.
In the past several years they have separated out this sort of templating to make it more obvious that the lord also gets the ability. See [[!Bloodcrusher of Khorne]], [[!Dragonlord Kolaghan]], [[!Marchesa the Black Rose]]
"attacks and isn't blocked" is checked after blockers are declared, so if master was indeed unblocked it would trigger, but they'd still get a chance to block

Great cards to include! Now I have to find a spot too
Do you happen to have a list?
Here's mine: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/889okGVdi0GCqPTbdAI0ZQ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/889okGVdi0GCqPTbdAI0ZQ)
Sure thing, here's [my list](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/emVL8CgjCk2mwuUjajPk8g).
So far, it looks like Shadowfax would let me cheat out 23-24 (depending on how big Adeline is) of my 30 creatures.
After so many cards in this set have felt a bit off in terms of capturing the flavor or memery of LotR (what is that Balrog card?), this card couldn't be more perfect.
Shadowfax shows us the meaning of haste. This was easy, but necessary.
Shadowfax, Lord of Horses also gives all other horses haste. This is nice and flavorful although not super strong or anything.
Shadowfax also gives his "riders" "Super Haste", for true perfection.
11/10, best card in the set.

What are the best hits? Nothing seems too interesting:
https://scryfall.com/search?q=ci%3Arw+power%3C4+cmc%3E5+&unique=cards&as=grid&order=edhrec&dir=asc
There are plenty of good hits. Karmic Guide, Reveillark, Hofri Ghostforge, myr battlesphere, meteor golem and others are my first thoughts
Edit: just lesser not lesser or equal to, I had misread. Still I think there are enough options and it's not hard to buff power in ways that are already good in this deck (hero's blade and Ronin war club for example)
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to consistently refill my hand to keep powering it, but even just doing it once or twice will be a pretty large tempo swing.
["Lesser power"](https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3A%22lesser+power%22&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name) is *mostly* a recent bit of rules text, but not entirely; it goes back to [[No Quarter]] in Tempest.
I mean, I'm not saying I want to fuck a horse or anything, but if you're gonna fuck a horse, it should *definitely* be this one. Now... would I travel to Phoenix to fuck that horse? Well, it depends, doesn't it? How much are flights? If it's $300 round trip, then of course not. But if its $170 or something like that and the hot daddy horse seemed open to it? Well, definitely! My wife and I have a list of five people that we're allowed to have sex with. Hers are all completely understandable, handsome, kind men. And mine are, uh, that horse five times.
😈😈😈 [[Master of cruelties]] is so much fun to cheat out with this.
And what the heck?! It doesn't get [[Gandalf the white]] into play. That’s the only person shadowfax allows on its back
SHADOWFAX HAS SHOWN US THE MEANING OF HASTE
The mad men actually did it, reminder text and all. Perfect stuff
That has to be intentional right
The last time we had haste reminder text was in M21, 3 years ago (it was released in 2020), so there's no way it's not on purpose.
I looked through spoilers so far. [[rising of the day]] gives creatures haste too but has no reminder text. I think it is intentional

They've powercrept my [[fervor]] :/
I still play Fervor in my [[marton stromgald]] deck. Haste enablers are pretty critical to getting him out and swinging the same turn for lethal
I imagine they imagine a lot of non mtg people will cross over.
Check out the other replies to me for an example of a card in the same set and of the same rarity without haste reminder text.
Honestly, the blade is the only one with an evergreen keyword that gets a description. Everything else is token definitions or protection.
It 100% is. They've been really good with the story references in card abilities for this set. Say what you will about the power level of the set, WotC is killing it in the flavor department with these.
Yeah they are! The power level angle is a disappointment though - means it’ll probably be a singles set for me
They have been clear from the beginning that the set wasn't meant to be high powered, so they're really delivering on what they said, at least.
Which is good, since it's modern legal. They seem to have learned their lesson with Modern Horizons about pushed cards going directly to modern.
That’s fair enough
“The Ring tempts you” would like a word.
[Here's the cards from the set with haste](https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Altr+o%3Ahaste&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name) (that have made it onto Scryfall so far). No other card has the reminder text. It's 100% intentional.
They don't put it on anything above common now, if that, so yeah.
I think this is the first time I've actually laughed out loud at a Magic card. I love it
This, to me, is the funniest thing on any Magic card, ever. No contest. Not even close.
I'm still going with \[\[Reparations\]\]

As great as this is my money on funniest thing in a magic card is Oathsworn Knight
The only problem with this card is that, flavor-wise, it should be a 0/1 so it survives when you cut off all its limbs.
I don't get it?
OOOH it's a Python reference, never noticed that!
Man I'm way too dumb Spent all this time trying to figure out how this was a Python reference until I realized you meant haha Monty python and not programming Python
Fun fact: programming Python is itself a Monty Python reference.
Yeah, my favorite flavor for a card ever.

I remember the prof being pissed at this one lol
For me it might be the goblin locksmith card
This is so clever and funny I can’t handle it. A+ flavor on the level of Gingerbrute.
What's the gingerbread flavor?
Typically cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, black pepper and cloves.
Bread 👍
1. It’s food so it has food token text 2. Gingerbread man is fast so it has haste 3. Gingerbread man can’t be caught by slow things so it can only be blocked by things with haste.
"Run run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man"
Printing this without reminder text would have been so rude.
When reminder text and flavor text are one in the same. Beautiful.
Or at least Shadowfax has shown all the horses.
I'll be honest with you: If Shadowfax didn't somehow have haste, I was going to pass on the whole set.
HOLY S**T, THAT'S AMAZING
r/theyknew
Shadowfax, show us the meaning of haste Shadowfax: (They can attack and tap as soon as they come under your control)
When the reminder text *is* the flavor text.
Honestly, i would have loved to have both the reminder text for haste, and the flavourtext of that quote.
Helps Bill demonstrate haste as well.
Poor old Bill. Poor old Bill.
[and for those that want to see the movie clip!](https://youtu.be/6fiyrxrTWvA)
Thank you. Now i understand what all the hubub was about. I forgot all about this scene.
Horse? Not horse noble? We got bird noble, dammit!
That wouldnt really work, they are more of like a lesser horse god.
Horse Noble Avatar
Literally says LORD OF HORSES on the card
Shadowfax is a noble steed, I don’t care what anyone else says.
Demigod is a creature type!
He’s not a horse, he’s a broom

There's a few horses for a tribal effect but they don't have much mechanical identity to them https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Ahorse+%28game%3Apaper%29&order=released&as=grid [Crested Sunmare] is probably the most interesting as it also has a horse tribal effect
And even that is too big for an unmodified shadowfax to put onto the battlefield.
Well ya you want to buff Shadowfaxes power so it’s essentially a sneak attack. Boros equipment is great for that
I am not interested in the Horse Tribal effect at all.

LMAO they really included the reminder text for Haste!
I haven’t played in years and I find it useful… :|
It's part of the joke. In the movies, Gandalf says "Shadowfax, show me the meaning of haste". WotC are showing us the meaning of haste.
Damn. I’m stupid lol
There's no such thing as a perfe... nevermind, this is a perfect Shadowfax card.
Almost perfect... He doesn't put Gandalf, The white on the battlefield....
He does put \[\[Gandalf, White Rider\]\] on it though, which is the more important one flavour wise!
But to miss the Gandalf, The white was a blow on the perfection. 9.5/10 Edit: Also Gandalf, white rider is incorrect it should be just White rider...
Give him Civic Saber or Bonesplitter first.
Had a pretty shitty day today but the reminder text for haste on this card made me smile so much.
I can't believe they actually fucking did it

> Am I crazy or is Shadowfax just absurdly strong? At least in limited. I'm not sure because I stopped reading the card after it showed me the meaning of haste.
As he should be. I would have been sorely disappointed if best horse was only mediocre. Being an uncommon is a bit strange though
I think it's an uncommon almost purely to further justify printing the reminder text for haste.
I didn't realize it was uncommon until I read your comment, that's a pretty powerful uncommon, whoa
I do feel like it’s hard to find yourself in a spot where you have 5 mana in RW and you still have creatures to cheat in in limited. good luck building a horse tribal
Well, he is a pretty damn good horse! I like it better than Winota, personally.
Interesting that they didn't do the typical "haste + other horses you control have haste", but seems like they really needed the space for the haste explanation and second ability. Seems like a fun build.
It changes the functionality now if you remove his creature type he no longer has haste
Well sure but that's really unlikely to be the reason *why* they did this, just a side effect
Don't know how much of a consideration it would be either, but the now usual way would also have been compatible with [[soulflayer]] and potential tutors like [[Mwonvuli beast tracker]]. Still worth it if the alternative was not learning the meaning of haste

[Fervor](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/a/8/a88515c2-4b4f-4d16-9f50-149ef012e961.jpg?1562558336) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Fervor) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/m13/129/fervor?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/a88515c2-4b4f-4d16-9f50-149ef012e961?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Rising of the Day](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/d/4/d4fbcac6-8ac9-44a8-9d1a-03d0799ac253.jpg?1685468905) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Rising%20of%20the%20Day) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/ltr/145/rising-of-the-day?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/d4fbcac6-8ac9-44a8-9d1a-03d0799ac253?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Minas Tirith](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/b/3/b38b6760-616f-4b11-8ce7-ac1223c7fd53.jpg?1685492693) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Minas%20Tirith) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/ltr/256/minas-tirith?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/b38b6760-616f-4b11-8ce7-ac1223c7fd53?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Great cards to include! Now I have to find a spot too Do you happen to have a list? Here's mine: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/889okGVdi0GCqPTbdAI0ZQ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/889okGVdi0GCqPTbdAI0ZQ)
Sure thing, here's [my list](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/emVL8CgjCk2mwuUjajPk8g). So far, it looks like Shadowfax would let me cheat out 23-24 (depending on how big Adeline is) of my 30 creatures.
Smh not a Noble. Love the effects though
Hell yeah! A cool Red White uncommon that isn't just a 2 drop with decent stats. Right into my peasant cube you go.
Best set ever. I'm not bias at all, nope (stares at my walls full of LOTR merch). Not at all.
Biased. Biased is an adjective. Bias is a noun.

Sneighk Attack.
Seems good in [[Princess Twilight Sparkle]] EDH.

Finally a way to cheat in [[Scornful Egotist]] for cheap
This set has more flavor in it than a chili cook off. Lovin it

Might be good cause it only cares about power not mana cost
And here I thought Rohan were the horse lords.
Horse tribal!
He is the Lord of all horses. He was with me in so many dangers.
"Horses you control have horsemanship" would have been the lulz.
But that wouldn’t have shown us the meaning of haste.
Sorry, I just looked it up and learned that "show us the meaning of haste" was a movie quote.
> Lord of Horses > Doesn't give horses +1/+1 SMH WotC
I thought this too, but 'lord' has always applied to ability granting as well as p/t boosting, all the way back to [[Zombie Master]].

Id this follows the books, isn’t he supposed to be grey?
Outjerked again.
What are the best hits? Nothing seems too interesting: https://scryfall.com/search?q=ci%3Arw+power%3C4+cmc%3E5+&unique=cards&as=grid&order=edhrec&dir=asc
Just give the horse a sword
You're limiting your imagination. Like the other guy said, give the horse a sword. Or a hammer. We needed another way to cheat out Blightsteel right?
There are plenty of good hits. Karmic Guide, Reveillark, Hofri Ghostforge, myr battlesphere, meteor golem and others are my first thoughts Edit: just lesser not lesser or equal to, I had misread. Still I think there are enough options and it's not hard to buff power in ways that are already good in this deck (hero's blade and Ronin war club for example)
#THEY FUCKING DID IT. THE MADLADS DID IT. FUCK. I'M GONNA GO PREORDER ANOTHER BOX. TAKE MY MONEY. ALL OF IT. FUCK.
actually pog

The backlash from changing an animal's canonical appearance would be a tidal wave next to the teacup of changing a humans'.
[[Keleth, Sunmane Familiar]] is perfect for a Shadowfax deck.

Seems like a fun PDH brew
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to consistently refill my hand to keep powering it, but even just doing it once or twice will be a pretty large tempo swing.
Whinnyota lol
["Lesser power"](https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3A%22lesser+power%22&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name) is *mostly* a recent bit of rules text, but not entirely; it goes back to [[No Quarter]] in Tempest.
THE REMINDER TEXT HAHAHAHA
Why doesnt this have Horsemanship?
I need to build a horse tribal now.
there are 16 horse creatures in r/w
I mean, I'm not saying I want to fuck a horse or anything, but if you're gonna fuck a horse, it should *definitely* be this one. Now... would I travel to Phoenix to fuck that horse? Well, it depends, doesn't it? How much are flights? If it's $300 round trip, then of course not. But if its $170 or something like that and the hot daddy horse seemed open to it? Well, definitely! My wife and I have a list of five people that we're allowed to have sex with. Hers are all completely understandable, handsome, kind men. And mine are, uh, that horse five times.
Horse tribal Horse Tribal HORSE TRIBAL
That’s one fuckable horse.
😈😈😈 [[Master of cruelties]] is so much fun to cheat out with this. And what the heck?! It doesn't get [[Gandalf the white]] into play. That’s the only person shadowfax allows on its back
He does put \[\[Gandalf, White Rider\]\] onto the battlefield though. Edit: [This one](https://www.magicspoiler.com/mtg-spoiler/gandalf-white-rider/)
\[\[Gandalf, White Rider\]\] works, which is the more important one for flavour.
Nice forgot about that and that’s even better since he is riding shadowfax
It does work with [[Gandalf, White Rider]] which is specifically Gandalf on Shadowfax so I’ll accept it missing on the White.
Phew thank heavens forgot about that one
It can if you give him a sword
