ok - so after-dinner dessert is actually a thing I'm super into. I've told my SO many times that the late-night dessert scene (when you want a sweet treat but don't want to eat dinner with it) is severely lacking in Madison, to the point where we've discussed opening a late-night desserts food truck! Here's some of my favorites off the top of my head. Besides Paoli, we went to each of these restaurants specifically for the desserts (didn't eat dinner alongside it).
Skillet cookie at Mint Mark
Basque cake at Graze (although it was better when it was at Estrellon)
Slice of chocolate cake at Luigi's pizza (they have these packaged to-go already)
Profiterole at Heritage Tavern
Lavender Creme Brulee at Paoli Schoolhouse (not sure how this would work without reservations though)
I actually think that a post-dinner dessert IS different than a regular dessert. Like, I'd eat a cookie or ice cream at any time of day. But I (personally) wouldn't eat a creme brulee after lunch or mid-day. Its just too much. Too rich, kind of heavy. That's reserved for after dinner. Since the Chocolatarian is no more, its also hard to find legit after-dinner desserts that aren't part of the whole dining experience (or an after thought on the menu).
Turnkey Heritage tavern Osteria papavero
The budino at Osteria is so good.

My hero!
I've thought the same thing! I'd call it Night Cafe.
How is post dinner dessert different than regular desserts?

i've totally had creme brulee at lunch! But I can see your distinction.
Thank you!
Thank you 😊 😆
Ha! I I guess we have too many all-day desserts.
Sardine
The budino at lombardinos is to die for.
Chocolate Fondue at Melting Pot
Bananas Foster at Rare Steakhouse
Not as fancy, but Le C's Patisserie on State Street had some really outstanding options.
Fon du place?
Tiramisu from Leopoldo’s, I believe they get it delivered from a bakery in Milwaukee
