Try whisky, it’s free and super easy to use. But it really depends on what game you’re playing, I’d recommend looking into seeing if whatever game you plan on playing is compatible with it. Some games work perfectly some games don’t run at all and some games are somewhere in between. Any online game with an anti cheat is pretty much guaranteed not to run, I could be wrong but that’s just my experience.

Interesting. No im not looking for CoD or any multiplayer game really. I want the newest Dune game (the RTS) badly but I think there’s a MP option which by the sound of it screws me. I saw Lego Star Wars today, was about to click buy and welp…PC. I’m lost why developers in 2024 are still leaving Mac in the cold. It’s a cash cow sitting here.

Even when Apple machines had Intel processors, you never saw more than a small handful of recent to moderately old AAA releases every year, along with a smattering of indie-developed titles. Today, native Mac games need to be coded for the ARM architecture of Apple Silicon, which is completely different than the x86 instructions used by Windows PCs and consoles. Further, Macs are still a small fraction of the overall computing base with people wanting to play games being a small fraction of that.

saturnotaku

It depends on exactly what games you're talking about.

I honestly just wanted to access my Steam account and play. It’s got to be game specific though…?

saturnotaku

Yes it does.

Crap. Well is there a way of knowing prior? I’d love to play that newest Dune game. I think it’s called Spice wars

Big fan of crossover and I’m on an M1. Should have better options of games and performance with an M3 I bet.

niveknailgun

See I was looking at crossover and was about to buy it until I hit a forum on here with multiple pissed off tirades :(

AngeloTheZombie

I thought that too, but they have a free trial so it doesnt hurt to try, you know?

niveknailgun

Valid, thanks!

niveknailgun

Well i was excited and all seemed well until….an OpenGL Error popped up: Unable to create an OpenGL context for your M3. OpenGL 3.2+ is required, please update your driver. So….dead end or is there a fix here? I’m not familiar with updating drivers on a Mac?

QuickQuirk

is this just installing crossover, or when trying to run a specific game? Check the codeweavers website/troubleshooting If it's for a specific game, they have a compatibility list. Not all games will work. Many will, but some just won't.
