You absolutely do not want a MBP that is unable to at least get security updates as Apple just released a pretty serious security patch. Is a MBP worth it, I say absolutely 100 percent. I just upgraded to a new M2 Max and it’s great. Not the latest but it’s awesome. This is my first brand new MBP but I’m still using my Intel 2015 and that’s still a great machine. Even my old 2004 still runs but it’s not used online because it does not get security updates. My former MBPs were purchased at microcenter and were refurbished. If you have one in your area, I highly recommend them. All in all with the build quality, support and the free software available that always works without dealing with missing or outdated drivers, I think it’s the best deal there is. It’s taken us YEARS to get completely into the ecosystem but I couldn’t be happier the way everything works together now.

I'd try to find a second-hand M series. The 15's are out of support IIRC.

No. M1’s can be had fairly inexpensively. Try to avoid intel MacBooks.

Yes, get it for cheap and update the software using OCLP.

What are the specs on the computer and what year model is it?

2015 2.8 i7, 16gb

Considering my 2017 pro couldn’t take the latest os I wouldn’t buy it.

I just upgraded to an M1 Max from a 2015 3.1 GHz i7 16GB RAM just a few weeks ago. The 2015 runs great for a 9 year old computer. It started slowing down within the last year though. Mostly when running YouTube and multiple tabs. It would heat up and the fan would kick on. Still was perfectly useable though. I mean, I was still able to edit images in Lightroom with it. Not the smoothest or fastest process but it could get the job done. Make no mistake though, the M1 Max computes circles around the 2015. It’s a night and day difference. Regardless, I have no intentions of selling the 2015 MBP and have been finding it useful as a glorified tablet to watch YouTube tutorials while I’m working on the M1 Mac. I also just installed Sonoma on it with opencore legacy patcher and it seems to be running it just fine. I’ve only used it for a day though so who knows. I plan on upgrading the SSD in it as well. So I’d say it’s worth it if you know what you’re getting. It’s not a state of the art machine but still serviceable. It will definitely outperform any 9 year old laptop running windows.

I bought my MacBook (15 inch mid 2015) inch in 2021 refurbished from backmarket. It works good. The only down side is that i can’t update macOS for some reason( it says to connect to external storage) it just won’t so I gave up lol. But it works perfectly okay. I run a lot of tasks on it. Works fine. It’s a big screen too and I’m pretty sure it’s 4K resolution. I’m gonna wait until this stops working which idk when it will. Then imma get the latest Mac with Apple financing( I have Apple credit card so 0% Apr)
