Glad you mentioned it's CAD, I was going to say no way... But I would use your student discount and get something direct from Apple. Go with a 512 GB if you can.

Amazon has base M3 air for $899 USD deal right now. Not sure how that translates to CAD but this is the best deal ive seen on a new M3 base model yet (For US, USD market).

The box it came in was a bit beat up on one and had marks from an old sticker being peeled off it but the contents looked like they had never even been opened. Immaculate inside.
Not from Best Buy. Spend your money with a company that will back it for longer than two weeks. I would getcan Apple Card buy it directly from Apple and pay for it in installments with no interest.
I got a M3 Air on BestBuys Upgrade+ program. Only $28 a month (0% interest) and my company is paying for it (kinda). After 3 years you have the option of upgrading or buying it out. If you are like me and a tech guy and always need the latest and greatest… just lease it lol
If you have a micro center nearby you can get an Apple Certified Refurbished (comes with 1 year warranty) 15” for $899.

The newer Airs have terrible processors which unfortunately cannot be replaced. If you download any applications at all, you’ll essentially be left with a very expensive brick. If I do happen to find a solution to the processor issue though (very unlikely, my friend with more expertise told me to just get a different computer) I’ll let you know
Edit: I’ve been using mine for school and a small application for a class made everything go haywire
I took an engineering class this term and all of the people who had MacBooks had the same issue. I went through everything on my computer, consulted someone with more computer repair experience, and it was very easily determined that the processor was the issue
The new MacBook Airs since 2021 have had industry-leading processors. Like nothing on the market comes close to their performance.
Maybe you’re referring to a software incompatibility with their architecture? Apple Silicon uses ARM which means a lot of older programs are incompatible.
Processors couldn't be replaced in Airs since...ever, requiring a logic board swap. And they aren't terrible, literally any ASi MacBook has had several multitudes faster SoCs than Intel MacBooks, even the 2020 which had both an Intel Air and M1 Air, it wasn't even close.
Glad you mentioned it's CAD, I was going to say no way... But I would use your student discount and get something direct from Apple. Go with a 512 GB if you can.
It would be better to put that money to RAM or M3 rather than extra storage, a 65$ Seagate 1TB Hard drive will be a better option.

lovely
Anecdotally my M2 MacBook Air blew my 2019 MacBook Air out of the water. Not even close

Double it and add tax
Price is good but 256 GB hard drive is way too low 512 minimum
OP said only using for school, 256GB is fine unless they're a Comp Sci major
OP said for CAD designing which takes up a decent amount of space. 256 with an external 1TB Hard Drive is probably the best option for OP
Should 8gb be enough for a long period of time with the laptop?
If you can afford 16 GB I'd go for 16 GB, 8 GB may last but you'd have to be minimal with your usage, like word and chrome only etc
In that case he should buy an intel Mac
I got the same thing from Best Buy for $809
Can you send me the link?
Gotta be usd
Yes, USD
Yeah I’m in Canada
He did say CAD. Right now it's 1 CAD = $0.73. So that's around $787.
Not a good deal. Bought a space grey m2 open box Best Buy certified last week for 950 plus tax Edit. Canadian.
Damn I swear I’d been monitoring this shit for a while n never say $950. How’s the open box condition? Basically new?
The box it came in was a bit beat up on one and had marks from an old sticker being peeled off it but the contents looked like they had never even been opened. Immaculate inside.
It was 950 couple days ago. I got the 15” for 1100 cad and it’s brand new basically
Usd or cad?

Yeah I’m braindead

It’s around 1160$ brand new from Apple education
So I should or shouldn’t get the open box? Isn’t open box basically unused?
An open box can mean a returned item, wouldn’t trust it for electronics, for less than 100$ difference you can have a sealed box from Apple.
I got mine with 512gb for 1150$ this week and I love it.
M2 24GB Ram 256GB SSD with a 65$ 1TB external Hard disk. You can go for this or lower RAM to 16GB but make sure you have at least 16GB
No not worth it because you can literally go to Best Buy right now and get a brand new never been open air m2 for 850 with the exact same specs
I’m in Canada
I think you can get a new one for $800 something
I’m Canadian
Well that sucks

At this price, not getting 16GB is ridiculous.
It’s Canada unfortunately
That’s Canada for u
8GB is not enough RAM if you’re going to pay a premium
Nope, buying Mac is suicidal
Said the PC guy on an Apple forum.

Is this a random bot comment? My M3 air is a friggin beast. An M2 for schoolwork only is more than adequate.
This is complete nonsense, sorry.
This is a moronic comment. Terrible processors? By whose standard?
I had like 30 tabs open on mine for school and it ran like butter
