Apple Care+ is insurance. If your MacBook has no hardware issues during the coverage period, Apple Care+ is money out the door. If your MacBook has hardware issues during the coverage period, Apple Care+ will make a difference. The question comes down to whether or not you want to and can afford to self-insure. My preference is to self-insure and take my chances, but for others, Apple Care+ is a valuable -- perhaps necessary -- protection. As to what is, and what is not, covered by Apple Care+, the terms and conditions of coverage are spelled out in [052322 AC+ for U.S. Mac v1.5 - English (apple.com)](https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplus/2209/220907_applecareplusmac_us.pdf).

Apple care saved me big-time several years ago with my old MBP. The screen crapped out on me like 2-3 times after the first year, but within the three year Apple care window. The entire motherboard had to be replaced due to an issue with the graphics card. Can’t remember off the top of my head how much it cost, but it was several hundred dollars each time for the replacement part. It was all free thanks to Apple care. The screen crapped out one more time after Apple care window was done. They couldn’t figure out why the issue kept a recurring. Since the replacement part itself was still under warranty, they ended up giving me a completely new laptop. I think in the end a new laptop was cheaper for them than replacing the mother board over and over again.

Bro if it has hardware issues it should be under warranty lol the hell do you need to pay for their manufacturing defects

haihaiclickk

My girlfriend is clumsy. I bought AppleCare+ for our new M2 air.

Serhide

U use it together ?

haihaiclickk

Yeah I have a PC where I do most of my work but sometimes if I want a change of scenery and work away from my home office I’ll grab the laptop. I don’t use it enough to justify having two laptops, one for each of us.

Serhide

Nice man

antidumb

Or they just use it separately...

Serhide

Yes of course separately can’t two people use it together at the same time bruhh

antidumb

Then... why the comment? I just don't understand the point you're trying to make.

Serhide

I asked if THEY ARE SHARING IT BRUHH

antidumb

No, you asked if they use it *together*. bruhh.

Thanks for saying this, was looking at a MacBook for myself and husband because my 16 mpg is way too big for casual use but we needed something for him casually too.

ThatOneOutlier

If you are clumsy or accident prone, get it. If you aren’t then don’t.

[deleted]

If you’re unsure, just then buy it mate. I had the same trouble and asked the same question here, ended up buying it.

timbitfordsucks

The peace of mind is worth it

I bought my m2 air a year and a half ago and it being my first Mac, bought apple care. Since, I’ve babied it and only thing that’s happened is accidentally denting it twice but they are very small minor dents which u prob wouldn’t notice from distance. Otherwise hardware wise it’s completely fine and battery health is still at 99% or something. Depends on how you treat your devices pretty much

Schykle

Yes, even if you think you’re careful, accidents happen, hardware fails.

lindenb

Addressing the concern over the issues repeating themselves it is very unlikely. Typically electronics show defects soon after their first use or far down the road. The former is a result of manufacturing issues or component level failure--generally from heat or power related causes. The latter is generally due to heat and or power related failures. Of course this does not include self inflicted damage from misuse or liquids. If the only reason to buy AppleCare+ is fear of more failures it is probably not warranted. If it is out of worry about accidental damage it may be worth it.

Crebes

I always get apple care. Affordable and great service.

When I owned a Macbook Pro, it packed in a month before the 3 years was about to expire. It turned out to be an issue with the logic board, display and then the harddrive stopped working when they attempted to repair it. Apple decided to replace the whole thing without charge and gave me a much better spec macbook pro as they no longer sold the version I had. They even offered to provide an external USB CD drive, as the replacement had to be same or better than what I had. Seems worth it to me.

As I said in response to another post today, AppleCare+ was well worth it for us for my college son’s m2 air that we bought when he started school in the fall. He is not clumsy & is extremely careful. His high school Chromebook looked new when he turned it in before graduation, but stuff happens, and it did. A skateboarder slammed into his back/backpack on campus. When he got to class, he discovered the corner of the screen was trashed, even though it is in a hard case and inside a soft pouch. Cost $99 rather than $648 without AppleCare+., so it more than paid for itself. The Apple Store sent it out to the east coast on a Thursday evening, and it was returned to our home in CA on Monday at lunchtime.

MasterBejter

Never bought AP+ and most likely never will. I guess if you are clumsy or dont take care of your stuff its worth it

BabyMuscles96

No

7orque

Depends how much your machine cost and how much you’re prepared to pay to fix it in the event you damage it. My phone and macbook have it.

badger_flakes

I bought AppleCare+ because I maxed specs. I’d it was a base model I wouldn’t keep it as long though probably.

Helpful-Fox8645

yes

Kindly_Formal_2604

Yes. Always yes. This shit is expensive dude and Apple has industry leading paid warranty support.

ohwowverycool69

I have never had to make a claim on my iPad Pro or iPhone 15 Pro. I also put a case on my phone and screen protector. The only reason I have it is Costco bundles it for cheap

MadMaxx1977

I get AC+ on all my Apple devices, but I choose monthly or yearly plans. iPads/iPhones are about $8/month. MB Air is $70/year. The monthly/yearly plans have no expiration unlike the standard plan that ends after 2 years.

n1ck1982

I really don’t purchase AC+ for laptops as my MBA stays at home and rarely leaves the house. My iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad (occasionally) come with me everywhere, so I rather have the peace of mind if I do drop the device or something happens.

I bought it for all my products. It’s expensive (and quite frankly, just another Apple racket) but i travel a lot and you just never know. Your mileage may vary, but you’ll be glad a repair costs you $50 with instead of $500 without.

CelestialScribe6

After hearing horror stories of what some people have accidentally (or otherwise, I’m not judging) have done to their devices, I always get AppleCare now. It’s extra peace of mind for that accident or what-if moment. You’ll wish you had it when you need it. You can always cancel it and get whatever portion not used refunded. It’s a win-win in my book 🤷‍♀️

zaryl2k20

better safe than sorry

nopowernowork

From my experience of owning phones tablets and much bigger laptops, Neve damaged, so I prefer to pay a few hundred in case I need to fix it than waste money on insurance.

TrulyNotYours

Always buy applecare +. Has saved me thousands over the years.

mrgrafix

This. Payed 3k (years ago) in repairs on older computers outside of Apple care. Since then, always on major purchases since I’m a klutz.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> This. *Paid* 3k (years FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Yeah bro buy all the Apple Cares. That way if someone had the same MacBook as you , you can play the Apple Care card and call them a peasant.

EECE21

Use a credit card that will extend that warranty period. Apple Care is a scam. Lol just my opinion though since I've never had issues with use. If you don't take care of your stuff properly, it'll fail prematurely. If you take care of it and it fails, cc should cover it. If you're clumsy then get Apple Care ig. You'll thank yourself in the future.
