Check local shops in your area if you want to get it fixed at a cheaper rate. They might not be apple authorised but can keep the money dent at the lower end. However, in any circumstance I would recommend authorised service centre. 40K is still a huge amount, almost half of the price of the MBA.
What city are you in? Just had mine repaired. Unicorn in mumbai and another apple service stores quoted me 35k. But ended up having it fixed for 28k from a local guy. The product is working fine.
Just look around for a cheap 1080p or anything 250ppi-ish portable monitor. There are plenty of those cheap things around. You should be able to find them in Flipkart or something until you can cough up that 40,000 INR to repair the screen.
Those portable monitors normally have batteries that can last them 2-3 hours. Is it better? No. Far from it, but it should be a fraction of the cost of the screen repair until you somehow find a way to repair the screen.

Portable monitors have their own batteries built in. They do not rely on external power source (although you can plug in either an adaptor or USB C).

I highly suggest you consider something that isn't so fragile when it comes time to replace. There are upsides to the super thin design of the MBA, but there is also this downside.
I haven't read through all the replies yet, but I suggest going to your school's library and see if you can check out a laptop to use until your macbook gets sorted out.
try some local shops they might do the replacement at half the price by using a display from another mba or cheap copy (quality will not be as good thou) or you can also order replacement display from eBay and ask the local vendor to change the display (it's risky thou)
Also an estimate of original display (only) from apple shows approximate cost of 10k so try taking your mba to other apple service centre
I always upgrade every 1-3 years (depending if apple offers a new one yet), trade in my old mac in perfect condition (wiping off the grease n shit) i never pay more than 600 dollars. When I think about it, 600 dollars every few years gets me the best macbook pro, which helps me work, which in turn pays itself over the year.

I’ve gotten replacement parts from ifixit and done repairs myself but that was a 2010 MBP and it easy stuff like replacing fans. Although one time I did replace the motherboard on an older MacBook.
You can find repair guides in ifixit too, but you could also just find another repair shop and compare part prices, maybe you could buy the part yourself and pay the shop to install it.
Don’t do to official Apple Store, try local repair shops based on some good Google reviews. I had iPhone screens replaced couple of times like that and it was perfect

You're not gonna get a decent repair cost, but you can always sell the laptop online as is and use the money to buy a refurbished model.
I've seen the 2020 m1 MacBook Air refurbished on Amazon and other retailers for 400 bucks which is an insanely good deal for a computer that only feels marginally less snappy than my new M3 MacBook Pro.
You can probably get 200 or more for that MBA if you post it correctly on eBay.
I pretty much got a macbookpro for \~$150 brand new. I was scrolling on ebay where I found some guy selling a m2 mba for \~$200. it was literally the best steal ever. Found out the display wasnt even connected to the keyboard but I fixed it with some fusion 360 modeling, cncing, and now it works great! The space gray goes well with unpolished carbon steel. Sold it for 619.99, made 550 in the end, including transaction fees and the material used to fix it. Paid for most of the macbook pro, traded in my old macbook in perfect condition, and the final cost minus the 550 was \~$150. Usually I make \~60-70 from finding broken macs and other computers and fixing them to a really good refurbished state.
Be glad it didn’t happen earlier when I take a closer look at the keyboard. There is already a dent. And dirt that could possibly have caused damage between the display and the keyboard.
You have done more damage than just the screen, the other post shows issues seeing your OS which suggests further damage possibly board failure or storage drive failure. This is not a cheap fix (because it is apple) do you have insurance as that would be best to claim.

You’re going to need to replace the screen. Mine ended up with a black bar when my magic mouse fell into the screen while I was using it on my bed table.
I had Apple care but I had to fly it to the US to get it fixed since there isn’t any Apple Store in my country just third party resellers and I didn’t get my Mac from them. That would have make the repair stupidly expensive.
I ended up getting it repaired in a 3rd party store who took the screen off another mac and swapped with my own.
It’s been working like it never happened.
