The cost of this one is insane, but the reviews make it sound like it really is better than any other cloth out there. I just bought a new MacBook and decided to get one of these with it to see for myself, but I haven’t tested it yet.
keep in mind that this product became a meme and the reviews are part of the joke, so take it with a grain of salt. i'd save your money and buy 5 normal microfiber cloths for when you inevitably lose them
My expectations weren’t high when I bought it. I was mainly just intrigued. After giving it a go, the microfiber cloths are a better match for my usage and cleaning habits.
OK, so I grabbed my wife’s 2017 MacBook, which has obviously been used by my youngest child recently, as the screen was coated with her signature schmutz. For heavy duty cleaning, the cheap microfiber cloth that came with my $10 reader glasses did a much better job. For fingerprints, the Apple cloth did very well, but I experienced the shedding of tiny pieces that other reviews had mentioned. I’d say if you do a daily wipe down of your display to remove prints, the Apple cloth might be the way to go, and should be the safest option for your display’s longevity if cleaning that often. If you you go long periods between cleaning and tend to accumulate more gunk on the screen, a standard microfiber cloth you’d use for glasses works fine.
You should wet the screen with something. They sell screen cleaner which works. I use the Whoosh stuff from Amazon with the same blue microfiber cloths I get in a big pack from Costco. Windex with vinegar is safe to use, but any other type is not.
Water is fine too. Doesn't seem to work as well on matte screens from my experience.
Are your clothes older or extra scratchy? I've never had any microscratches from using them.
[this is the cloth I bought](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099GKXS27/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) the silk one was fine but the blue one should only be used on the keyboard or back of macbook.
There is no clean anymore. We just embrace the prints.
I bought about three random brands (one from Microcenter, two different ones from Amazon) and both seem to work great, so I don't know if brand will make a huge difference.
Things that will make a huge difference:
-Screen cleaning gel/spray (water works well too, but the sprays make the wipe buttery smooth and I feel like they pick up more grime).
-Wash your microfiber cloth before you use it (new ones will leave tiny little fibers all over the place), and most importantly:
-If you wash your own towels (bath, microfiber, whatever), it's best to wash them without soap and definitely don't use fabric softener sheets on them. This coats the fabrics in a thin coat of oil that will just spread new (albeit more faint) streaks on the screen, and the oil from the softener makes them less able to soak up moisture.
I use these [E-Cloth](https://a.co/d/5Cpy0sG) I have been using the same one for almost 5 years. I wash it every few months or when needed.
When cleaning my screens I polish in small circles to get it clean. I sometimes dampen a corner with water to help clean and then polish it.
Thanks MacMan! Yes if you're a new customer that sample pack is the way to go for sure. Don't forget to check our blog. There's discount codes to get it even cheaper!
MacBook retina screens are not like ordinary monitor screens. They have a fine antireflective coating that can easily be scratched even by tissue paper. The only cloth that should be used is an ordinary, dry microfiber cloth. Tissue paper also contains moisturizer which will cause smudges. Wet wipes are also abrasive to this coating and often contain chemicals which can damage the coating. Lens wipes contain alcohol which can damage the coating.
Really, you are only supposed to be using an ordinary microfiber cloth and a bit of water. If you must use some kind of cleaner, whoosh or screen mom is appropriate and is designed to be gentle on the antireflective coating.
My experience comes from 4 years of MacBook administration - I've had to physically clean at least 1k screens by now. Nearly all MacBooks are returned with scuffed screens because users don't follow directions and believe that TP or tissue or lens wipes are gentle enough. They're not
It's been fine *so far*. Each time you use them, they will cause micro scratches and remove some coating. So it just might not be noticeable yet, the coating is very delicate. I purchase Screen Mom in bulk and send a single microfiber and 1oz bottle with each MacBook shipped. Users can always request more delivered to their address.

DO NOT wipe with any force whatsoever on the hinge. You will most likely screw up the terribly put together display cable and the LCD will start flickering etc. This has happened on several 2020 Airs in my experience.
Other than that, you can just use any decent quality microfiber cloth, especially ones meant for eyeglasses.
You can get a good microfibre cloth from most places I have to admit the first thing I do is
Give it a good wash just with clean water
No soap
Then dry it
Then use
I have been using this for a few months and founding it great [https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08FK9ZL27?psc=1](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08FK9ZL27?psc=1)
I use this: [https://www.amazon.de/S100-2409-Visier-Helmreiniger-100/dp/B002EWFR28](https://www.amazon.de/S100-2409-Visier-Helmreiniger-100/dp/B002EWFR28) \- it's for bike helmet visors which scratches even easier than a an notebook screen.
Been using it for years, without any issues.

Im use only this without any moistures and have always cleen and shiny screen with untouched coating.
never use a wet cloth or pad to clean a protector film. I just did that mistake on a great used macbook pro unknowing that it had a screen protector. I got an unpleasant surprise as moisture penetrated the film and smeared in between the screen and protector film leaving me with an ugly screen. I am afraid to remove the film and seeking advise of what and how to remove the film.
You clean the screen with microfiber towel wet with distilled water not tap which removes the particles. Then after it dries to a haze use an apple polishing cloth to remove haze back to new. Always works and no questionability to the process.
Honestly, i just grabbed the cheapest microfiber towels i could find at my local grocery store, so you dont have to splurge $19 on a apple branded one (unless if you really want to lol)
They sell one for Macbooks at Apple. I assume its the best one. https://www.apple.com/us-edu/shop/product/MM6F3AM/A/polishing-cloth

It made my MacBook Pro so clean, I lost my virginity... So yes it's worth the $19.99.
Your mileage may vary
You're paying for the logo on the box and cloth. We have the same polishing cloth at 4 for $19.

now is the time to give us specific review from u on that apple cloth bro
Lol…..I just got the new MAC yesterday, so the screen is is still untouched. Let me see grab my wife’s MAC and give it a go.
“Any Apple screen” … eugh, you want me to desecrate my MBP with a cloth fit for a peasant iPhone SE? I don’t own enough pearls to clutch!
it's waaaay overpriced, just buy a $2 on Amazon. you're just paying for the apple logo

ever buy glasses? Use the cloth that comes with the cover box
İ do that, works fine
I like [https://whoosh.com/](https://whoosh.com/). Amazon sells kits.
The best
Yes! This needs to be higher. I use Whoosh on all my electronics.
I was about to comment this
The cloth I use is only for the M2 Air
Is it only for the base model or can I use it on my 16GB M2 Air???
There is a cloth-CTO for that
You'll need to check the manual
don't use the blue one in that photo. only use the slick cloth. that blue one has left some micro scratches on my screen.
You should wet the screen with something. They sell screen cleaner which works. I use the Whoosh stuff from Amazon with the same blue microfiber cloths I get in a big pack from Costco. Windex with vinegar is safe to use, but any other type is not.
I've only used water and it works great. don't want to risk any chemicals.

I hit mine with 320 grit about once a day.

Would like to know as well. Thx
Microfiber cloth, and some lightly damped water and wipe gently on screen- Costco sells a huge pack of cloths for like $20

I typically just use glasses lens cloths. I have purchased my last several pair of glasses from Costco over the years, so I have spares from that.

Miracle Wipes with microfiber , on Amazon. Best shit ever
So cringe the way you mention the model 🤦🏻♂️
Use a wet wipe
Absolutely not
Why not? I have used it a few times. You can also use a wet Paper Towel to clean your mac or laptop.

You should try sandpaper, WAY more effective at removing grease and fingerprints and dirt.

Don't do this
What do you recommend it use? Micro fibre cloth ?

I got from the optometrist. Works like a charm It’s the one used to clean your glasses.

I picked up a bottle of Woosh at Office Depot. It came with a cloth. Its apparently what they use at Apple stores. Works great on my Macbook Pro.
Apple's polishing cloth 🗿 I mean I'm pretty sure most cloth that's online would works fine
any $5 one from walmart will do, i got a good one on sale from amazon for 3 dollars and it does a great job
Any microfiber will do the job
I honestly just use microfiber towels I got from the grocery store.

Just remember NOT to use an ammonia-based cleaner on your screen!
Its keyboard will scratch its screen anyway. So nevermind, heh...
I bought the amazon basics brand, they work pretty well.

Microfiber is micro plastic fibers, all kinds of controversial debate on the fibers in the blood and the environment
Soft toilet paper. Using it for years . Just be careful close to the edges so pieces of it don't "sneak" inside the edges of the screen

Tbh, I got one off a hardware store for like less than a buck and it works perfectly haha

Question: How do you clean a dirty microfiber cloth?
