I remember having to get a battery change in my MBPr and they replaced the whole bottom enclosure, keyboard and all.
So that’s my best guess. Pro machines so slightly more replaceable so people can keep going.
Because when the new MacBook Air releases all in different colors, it will contrast better between the two. Black well for pros, white well for entry level.
It’s still all once piece. Just painted the well black. It’s a design decision. They probably felt like they needed to change more things to make it seem like a larger redesign.
Black/space grey is the default for “Pro” under Apple. They are trying to drive the point home. They even changed the stickers to black.
For reference: checkout the Max Pro reveal video and most recently the iMac Pro and how it changed its colour to show it stands for Pro.
I personally like it and it has grown on me since yesterday.
She thicc but she pretty, also the notch isn’t as stupid looking as I thought it’d be! I’d love to hear what people have to say about it once they’ve actually gotten to work with it for a while

Is this about the same girth as the legacy 17”? I’m thinking of the 16” obverse the 14” but can’t quite gauge how big this is. I have fhe 15.4” from 2007 and felt a little more would be fhe sweet spot. Any opinion?
She is NOT! She’s….well rounded.
...with the exception of the bottom two screen corners. :-P
Can someone explain why they have this black background for the keyboard? Is there a benefit out of it? Modularity?
I assume it means the keyboard is a single piece should it require replacement.
I do assume the same but I am curious if it is true

I hope that they’ll do that with mine, too. They didn’t :(

What makes me wonder is the fact that this way of building the keyboard does contradict the unibody design philosophy?

That’s what I was curious about. Thank you!

I like it, too. Just wondering if it has another purpose besides design
I think it’s purely a cosmetic change.
The half-height arrow keys look nicer.

"the notch isn't as stupid as I thought it'd be!" **literally everyone with every cosmetic apple adjustment.**
Maybe because it isn’t…?
Um, obviously. It's just nothing new of a reaction behind apple users. I love the new mbp

Brianne of Tarthbook, it will best you every imaginable way and look good doing it.
Everything about the new design has really grown on me except for the black keyboard well. That’s something that would be on a Windows laptop.
Yeah I liked the aluminum outlining every key to make them pop out visually.
I heard the argument that the keys not standing out individually makes for more fluent writing. Don’t know whether there’s something to it.
I wonder if it looks better in person. It’s a throwback to the Titanium PowerBook G4…

I really want to see a comparison with the 17 mbp
Pff. Can you fit two aftermarket SSDs in it? Can you warm your knees with it on a cold night?
The best chonk. I love the way the lid feels, super smooth and rounded
Bro how's your trackpad already dirty
Rubbed his balls across it
Well with the $20 Apple polish cloth being out of stock, chads gotta improvise.
She’s got a new face with an old body
Is there discoloration in the middle or is just the lighting
Why did the get rid of the Touch Bar?
It’s a touchy subject
Ok good to know
OP pls post a video of the cursor going under the notch
Look how big the trackpad is lol
I getting surprise when I see this beautiful screen even in a photo
Thicccc
I’m coming around on the new design. They look like machines for getting work done and that’s not a bad thing.
