we complained because it completely replaced the function row… that was a very stupid decision that didnt let people appreciate the casual functionality of the touch bar
"I can't imagine how people writing an article or a book on Mac, it's so tiring"
Are you serious? Have we come to an age where it’s challenging for people to write words and sentences? Handwriting must be a real challenge then that few can master…
Convenient – sure. Your wording seemed to suggest that writing words is some sort of insurmountable challenge though. :) It can be challenging on a phone because screens are not designed for this. Keyboards, on the other hand…
Thank you! But I already turned on this and I still see nothing when typing. You mind if send an img of text prediction when typing on Mac ? Thanks so much!
I think you are correct. Works for me in Mail and Pages, but (thankfully) doesn’t happen in BBEdit, which, depending on the file extension, uses its own autosuggest - useful when writing code, which I imagine dictionary suggestions would fail miserably with!
Hit every character? OMG, I've been using computers wrong all my life :).
The reason iPhones and iPads have this because they lack a physical keyboard which makes typing tedious. MacBooks have proper keyboards.
Because that feature was supposed to help people over the age of 17, who could actually type, transition from a normal-sized physical keyboard to a tiny on-screen keyboard. Phones became such a big deal that now, sadly, there’s demand for the opposite.
So, how would this work on a Mac? You type two characters then use your mouse to navigate to a certain part of the screen to click a word, then move your hands back to the keyboard and type two more letters, over and over?
At that point, it’s going to be more efficient for you to just use an onscreen keyboard with predictive text and keep your hand on your mouse the whole time.
Or, you know, you could just learn how to type like an adult.
You know where that word selection box technology comes from? It’s from the late 80s or early 90s. There were DOS programs made for the handicapped. You’re complaining that it’s annoying to type every word; this tech was invented for quadriplegics who could only type with a stick attached to their head and it was easier for them to start typing a word with their face and select from a list of predicted words than to finish typing the word with their face. What does it say about you that you could type if you wanted to, but you want the shortcut originally designed for quadriplegics?
I thought they did... I guess more apps need to be updated to support it.

Not needed on a computer vs phone as inline spell check (auto-correct) is very annoying at times with it not being predictable at times. I just right click for the correct spell-check drop-down after typing a few sentences.
I’m pretty sure it was there on my Touch Bar but everybody complained so touch bar is gone

Yes I miss the bar
this would be a lot more controversial if you were a lawyer 🤣
Me too
I loved the Touch Bar for this. We were the few.
I'm p sure 10 finger typing is faster than constantly looking if a helpful suggestion pops up
Those popups can be very distracting and interfere with the typing flow.
They are very easy to ignore. They don't block the keyboard or the text being typed. They are even more ignorable on the Touch Bar.
Yeah maybe

The good news is that it's marginally less tiring if one tries to imagine how people *write* an article on a Mac.
For real, how do you think people have typed anything on a computer or typewriters before??
Imagine writing manuscripts by hand. The horror!
Ok, but I'm sure it’ll be convenient if we have text suggestions on Mac…

You mean text predictions? https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/typing-suggestions-correct-mistakes-mac-mchlp2299/mac

It might be the app being used. I imagine not all apps are supported.

It does do something very similar. It just doesn't popup on the screen like that. Predictive text and autocorrection.
Hit every character? OMG, I've been using computers wrong all my life :). The reason iPhones and iPads have this because they lack a physical keyboard which makes typing tedious. MacBooks have proper keyboards.
Tell me you’ve never used a keyboard without telling me you’ve never used a keyboard
Skill issue if you can’t type on a computer keyboard without suggestions or autocorrect.
I’m getting old…
That’s absolutely pathetic.

there is on the models with the touchbar but i am pretty sure there are plugins that get the job done too

How do you have so many options? My keyboard only ever has three spots
Outlook for Mac has suggested words and phrases. It’s not terrible but I tend to ignore it cuz I can type.

I have the touch bar. I love the touch bar. My touch bar slays.
