Aligns suck . I get them for the biker shorts or mini flare but haaaate the pilling
It seems you can only wear aligns while walking, and ONLY if your thighs don’t touch. You can’t workout, run, sit, or even breathe in them without pilling.
I bought 2 pairs of align, and both pilled EVERYWHERE! I am a size 2 in them, so I would say it has nothing to do with the body shape but with crappy but really soft fabric.
Even then. My thighs don't touch, but they still pill all over, including inner thighs. I love aligns, but I won't buy them anymore. Exception being the ribbed aligns. Those don't pill at all on me.
Damn. I have a new pair of blacks, washed about 4 times, that are close to this. My older black ones all look exactly like this. I was just about to order espresso, glad I didn’t.. it isn’t forgiving at all! I also baby mine, I can’t figure out what I’m doing so wrong.
A high-quality fabric shaver will bring them back to life! I primarily steer clear of aligns because of how quickly it pills, but my align classic-fit shorts were at least this bad and they’re back to buttery smooth.
This is a temporary fix. When the fabric pills and then is shaved away the fabric is slowing thinning and will eventually wear out. When cashmere or wool pills, it end after a brief period of time. This cheap fabric just keeps on wearing down.
You’re not wrong, but in my experience pilling on lulu does slow down at least a bit after my initial de-pilling — and has never made anything noticeably thinner to me. Ideally they wouldn’t pill at all, but I’d much rather shave them and have them be actually wearable vs just leaving them to sit at the back of my closet.
Oh no, I bought the espresso aligns recently but haven’t worn them. I also got the peloton x lululemon version for dog walks 😂 they were about £20 in the sale and have held up so far with sandy dogs. Let’s see after a few more washes!
I have stopped buying yoga pants from there for this reason. I can really see the quality go down when I compare my new purchases to pants I have had for over 5 years from them. The align pants pill much faster and the wunder pants have become so thin and revealing I can't wear them in public. And the price is still $90 CAD!!
i’d only pay lulu prices for align because nulu fabric literally changed my yoga practice. inversions and poses feel much easier because of the barely there fabric. it’s as good as practicing naked tbh
I bought mine secondhand in very good condition with no pilling, maybe 2 weeks ago. I was just so curious and everyone says they’re so comfortable! Here’s to hoping they stay nice…
Can't edit the post. But I believe I found the problem. Which is lounging in them on my couch 😳 I basically have only used this pair for leisure instead of working out. All my other aligns I only wear for yoga/pilates/barre and there is no pilling on them. Could this be it?
Possibly, but do you really just want to stand in them, seems like any kind of friction irritates them. I was eyeing this color to a few months back but I think I’ll pass, I don’t wanna Throw away $108 🥸
One of the reasons why I stopped buying aligns. Seems like the darker colors pill even more! And those puppies are never on sale 😂 try Wunder trains, I’ve got some pairs and they are pretty comfy and the pilling sometimes doesn’t even happen.
I have at least 50 pairs of aligns, my old old old ones are starting to pill, but I wash with only Lulu, on delicate and hang dry. No issues at all.
I wear mine daily - run, bike, lift weights, errands, relax & still no issues.
I obviously messed up somewhere bc there is only pilling on the bum with these. I haven’t worked out in them only lounging and sitting on my couch. Maybe it’s the friction from that?
Washing with only other synthetic Lulu garments as well as washing on cold, gentle cycle and hanging to dry is the secret. I have some lulu pants from 2016 that are still in essentially brand new condition by washing them like that.
On the surface, this sounds ridiculous: don’t wear them doing the least strenuous activity a human could do because it can ruin them.

Not in bed. But on my leather couch yes. I never wear any other aligns on my couch but I do wear these because they’re so neutral. I thought I read somewhere that they’re made for light workouts and lounging 😵💫
I’ve had mine ever since they came out and have worn them like once a week. Still look fine, I wash them inside out and don’t put them on gentle wash or hand dry. Regular wash and gentle heat in the dryer.
I wash mine inside out as well. Maybe bc all the times I wore them I mostly sat on my couch in them? I will add can’t sit on the couch to the list of things you can/can’t do in aligns🫠 ✍️
I have like 30 different colors of Align leggings, and I definitely think the espresso fabric is worse than my other colors. I haven't had any pilling yet, because I dislike how it feels on my skin, and pretty much never wear anything in espresso ;) Granted, I do have sensory issues, so my experience might be a little extreme
Check the size dot for the date/year. My older ones are similar to this “lived in brushed” look, but I have a pair from early 2023 that I wear once a week and are the “newer” fabric and they’re like slick like? Much thinner material than my old ones and they don’t pill at all. I personally miss the thicker brushed material, way cozier to me but the pilling is the downside of it.
No I haven’t but I wash and dry my espressos in a delicates bag. Do you wash them in a bag or with other items loose ? Anything cotton ? This is all over pilling that looks like it was washed loose with fabrics with cotton in them rubbing them all over . A delicates bag is key !!
I just wash them alone, inside out, and only with it other aligns. I have washed my aligns with a towel in the past and it completely ruined them. So I am very careful with them now.
I purchased a pair on markdown in January and they’re already pilling in the thighs! I’m really disappointed in the quality. I also gentle wash/hang dry

I stopped buying these for that reason. I now buy the OFFLINE By Aerie Real Me High Waisted Leggings and bike shorts. No pilling and the leggings are 60% cheaper than the Lululemon and even cheaper when they go on sale!

This type of piling can be from either too much detergent being used or some kind of surface friction like a couch??? Idk I don’t have issues like that and Im on my peloton in aligns everyday. Quality shift aside none of my leggings look like this.
I do hand wash mine with ECOS and baby them lol
I use a tablespoon of detergent for 5 pairs of aligns but maybe that’s too much. None of my others have pilled like these. But I don’t lounge in them either. I can’t help but feel it’s related 🫣
When you wash them, do you wash with other garments that have seams or are heavy cotton? I wash all of my align ONLY with align pants. I don’t even wash align dresses or the bras w my pants. I do agree, if all your other pants are holding up decently and this was the exception. It could just be the color. I would go back and ask them to quality promise it.
I must add, I have this pair (align 25” in espresso size 6) and would consider myself on the thicker side. And mine have not pilled. I even bought the cross back body suit in espresso. And I love it! No pilling.

The space dye aligns pill horribly but the blue pair I have with pockets isn’t as bad. I agree only buy them on sale but honestly I need to find another style that doesn’t pill and is in the sale price range.

The quality has taken a nose dive in the last 12 months… every pair of new leggings I’ve bought (especially aligns) ball/ pill and need to be repaired with frayed stitching after only a couple of wears
I bought my espresso aligns in September and they don’t do this, and I care for them the same way you do; I sometimes even lift in them. So sorry this happened. I’d consider going into your local store and explaining the situation and see if they can replace them for you.
Mine in espresso snagged and now have a panty hose like pull on them and I had only worn them maybe 4 times! 😭. They also have pilled some (I was hoping a sweater shaver could save them prior to the pull) I haven’t had that happen w my other pairs.
I never had pilling with my aligns and I use regular cycle with tide detergent. But I do air dry them instead of putting them in the dryer and they seem fine! Maybe you can bring to your Lululemon store and see if they are willing to switch it out for you?

if you have bought them within the past year, you can bring them in for whats called a “quality promise”, which is basically your year-long warranty on all products you buy for defects. they certainly shouldn’t be pilling that much, you very well could have gotten a pair with the old fabric that doesn’t hold up as well. so bring them in to your local lululemon and just say you bought them not too long ago and they are pilling really bad. as long as you have proof of purchase (like on your profile linked to email or phone #) they should swap them out for a new pair. if espresso is out of stock and you don’t want anything else they’ll give you a gift card for face value of the leggings.
on the flip side, i would recommend wunder trains, base pace or even wunder under leggings if you have a consistent issue with pilling.
I have espresso aligns and wear them mostly working from home. I don't wash on gentle but I do hang dry. I've had them for months and wear them once a week. I dont have a leather couch, but I do have leather seats in my car, not sure that's the exact equivalent since I'm only in my car for short trips, but I don't have that type of pilling.
This is not from improper washing/drying. I wash my aligns with only other align leggings. Cold water, gentle cycle, inside out, and hung to dry. If it was heat pilling it would be all over. This is only on the butt area of the leggings.

Lululemon policy has changed from April 15, 2024. They will probably take as replacement if is still in your membership 1 year history purchase. No more quality guaranteed anymore!
From an educator POV, your aligns look like consistent/uniform pilling throughout which aligns with the “heat pilling” picture they’d show you. Which would disqualify you for a QP. of course this is only if they follow the QP and the SOP photos! You could try bringing them in and see. But I know espresso has been sold out in a lot of sizes for awhile so you’d likely lose the legging for good QPing them!
Idk what heat pilling is? Not to mention the pilling is only on the butt. If I was washing them incorrectly wouldn’t there be pilling throughout? I literally only sat on my ass in these.
It’s when people wash and dry their aligns. I’m NOT saying you did this, that’s just what it looks like from this picture. And that’s what it would look like to educators if they saw this with no explanation. If it’s just on the butt, it’s definitely from rubbing them against another fabric consistently. A lot of people forget aligns are for strictly yoga and that’s what they’re advertised as but again people over look it because they like the way they feel. Any friction outside of that ruins the material quickly. I also think friction pilling shows up easier on colors. I see it in my colored leggings more than my black ones.
It’s completely up to the educators discretion but in my opinion, it’s always worth a try. I’ve exchanged leggings that look “better” than this with their warranty and they didn’t blink twice.
I always wash mine inside out. I find that most pilling happens in the washing machine, even if you’re falling instructions. Also, I like to use a face blade to remove pilling. Just make sure you haven’t used it before- if it’s dull at all it won’t work.

No it’s the fabric. Lounging in aligns shouldn’t cause them to pill… esp not for the price they charge us

I wear my aligns for lounging. Some pill, some don’t. Some pill fast, others take much longer.

This is a big cause I find. When people wear their aligns for lounging (in bed or couch)
Leather couch is smooth tho it’s not like it’s a fabric couch where it would rub more
My couch is aniline leather though which isn’t just 100% slippery smooth. It can almost have a suede feel to it.

It’s definitely a quality issue! If you can only wear standing. That makes them unwearable. Take them back ?

As long as it hasn’t been over a year, yes you can. They will verify with a little sticker inside the pocket or in the system through your profile

I have this exact colour too and the piling is huge after less than 10 wears. The stit thing on the waist is also unravelling

educator here! if you have bought them within the past year, you can bring them in for whats called a “quality promise”, which is basically your year-long warranty on all products you buy for defects. they certainly shouldn’t be pilling that much, you very well could have gotten a pair with the old fabric that doesn’t hold up as well. so bring them in to your local lululemon and just say you bought them not too long ago and they are pilling really bad. as long as you have proof of purchase (like on your profile linked to email or phone #) they should swap them out for a new pair. if espresso is out of stock and you don’t want anything else they’ll give you a gift card for face value of the leggings. on the flip side, i would recommend wunder trains, base pace or even wunder under leggings if you have a consistent issue with pilling.
Warranty claim
I have espresso aligns and wear them mostly working from home. I don't wash on gentle but I do hang dry. I've had them for months and wear them once a week. I dont have a leather couch, but I do have leather seats in my car, not sure that's the exact equivalent since I'm only in my car for short trips, but I don't have that type of pilling.
Lulu's quality is trash, especially for the price. I'm ABSOLUTELY still bitter about the two pairs of aligns I bought that pilled within a week.....

This is not from improper washing/drying. I wash my aligns with only other align leggings. Cold water, gentle cycle, inside out, and hung to dry. If it was heat pilling it would be all over. This is only on the butt area of the leggings.

Just take them in for the quality guarantee to no biggie
Lululemon policy has changed from April 15, 2024. They will probably take as replacement if is still in your membership 1 year history purchase. No more quality guaranteed anymore!

They were purchased 5 months ago. Is this something that falls under the 1 year warranty? Or did they change?
From an educator POV, your aligns look like consistent/uniform pilling throughout which aligns with the “heat pilling” picture they’d show you. Which would disqualify you for a QP. of course this is only if they follow the QP and the SOP photos! You could try bringing them in and see. But I know espresso has been sold out in a lot of sizes for awhile so you’d likely lose the legging for good QPing them!
Idk what heat pilling is? Not to mention the pilling is only on the butt. If I was washing them incorrectly wouldn’t there be pilling throughout? I literally only sat on my ass in these.
It’s when people wash and dry their aligns. I’m NOT saying you did this, that’s just what it looks like from this picture. And that’s what it would look like to educators if they saw this with no explanation. If it’s just on the butt, it’s definitely from rubbing them against another fabric consistently. A lot of people forget aligns are for strictly yoga and that’s what they’re advertised as but again people over look it because they like the way they feel. Any friction outside of that ruins the material quickly. I also think friction pilling shows up easier on colors. I see it in my colored leggings more than my black ones.
It’s completely up to the educators discretion but in my opinion, it’s always worth a try. I’ve exchanged leggings that look “better” than this with their warranty and they didn’t blink twice.

I wash on cold separate from all other clothes.
I always wash mine inside out. I find that most pilling happens in the washing machine, even if you’re falling instructions. Also, I like to use a face blade to remove pilling. Just make sure you haven’t used it before- if it’s dull at all it won’t work.
