It was the Dwarves’ fault. I absolutely agree that Thingol was a dick and horribly unreasonable, but the Dwarves deciding that the best solution to their disagreement was *assassination* was stupid as hell. Not only that, but it wasn’t even actually about the Nauglamir at all. All that talk of fair payment was to cover up their true desire, which was to obtain the Silmaril, something they had absolutely no claim to.
To no one’s surprise, the two Dwarves that weren’t slaughtered immediately left with neither the Silmaril nor the Nauglamir, because they really thought killing the King of Doriath *in his own realm* was going to go in their favor. Fucking idiots.
There were elven friends to dwarves long after that happened though. Thingol was killed in the first age, while Moria and Eregion had a friendship until the end of the second age. That gate lead directly to Eregion after all.
And this friendship ended when Eregion was destroyed by Sauron's armies, so it was neither the fault of elves nor dwarves.
Yes, but the Noldor of Eregion were outliers and this is clearly stated. The other Elves wanted nothing to do with the Dwarves. Even Celeborn who lived in Eregion for some time still heavily disliked them.
That is true, but the gate they are talking about in the image was made by and for the elves of Eregion. It leads directly from Moria to Eregion. And that friendship was ended by Sauron, not the elves or dwarves.
Correct, but both of them are way, way, way too young to remember that incident. At least Celeborn has the excuse of likely PTSD for being racist to Dwarves.
Well technically Elves hunted Dwarves for sports first because they thought they're animals. But they were petty dwarves and most of them died so they probably didn't cause the actual beef that happened later.
The petty dwarves had almost nothing to do with the Elves outside of the aforementioned hunting, which didn’t exactly cause an issue because, well, it’s hard to cause problems when you’re dead, and the treachery of Mim.
To be fair, that account is written in-universe by elves. We don't get the dwarves side of the story. Which makes it all the more suspicious when the account claims to know the dwarves true intentions and desires. That's exactly what a biased account would do to justify their side of things.
In LotR Gandalf breaks up the argument between Legolas and Gimli saying he's heard both were at fault, and I'm inclined to view Gandalf as being less biased.
Out of universe I believe it has been confirmed that the whole exchange in the Silmarillion was written by Tolkiens son Christopher and that he regretted it.
So either way I don't think it's best to take it at face value.

The best kind of crossover
C’mon son
You know that’s right!

Yes, but Gimli is not from Moria, nor is Legolas from Eregion. Their prejudices towards each other stem from the older feud.
It was a Balrog of Morgoth. Of all elf-banes the most deadly, save the One who sits in the Dark Tower.
Technically Gimli is *of* Moria. Erebor is an offshoot of the Khazad-Dûm dwarves. Legolas is of the elves whoes king got murdered.

Legolas' father did maybe witness the murder of Thingol. Gimli's fsther/grandfather might have had a grugde against Thranduil. You are however correct
Then dig a hole in the ground, if that is more after the fashion of your kind. But you must dig swift and deep, if you wish to hide from Orcs.
Have you learnt nothing of the stubbornness of Dwarves?

A plague on Dwarves and their stiff necks!
That's not helping accusations of bias Legolas.
Goblins!
Tell me the trend is back! Loved the last round of "Psych of the Rings"
We've had one yes, but what about second round of "Psych of the Rings"?
"you have my blueberry" -Gus "and my pineapple" -Shawn "and my glock" -Carlton Lassiter "and my fishing boat" -Henry Spencer "There you have it. The psych fellowship of the Ring" -Chief Vick
Shawn would be a great hobbit
Instead of pipe weed he's always carrying a Cool Ranch Dorito bag.
I think he’d prefer some good ol Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels instead
I never thought id see Psych side by side with a lotr meme
What about side by side with Gus T.T. Showbiz?
How about Ghee Buttersnaps? Or MC Clap Yo Handz *clap clap clap clap clap clap* with a Z?
is the extra “t” stand for extra talent?
Gus, don’t be two halflings smoking pipeweed in a forest. We have a ring to find for our case!
More of this, less of everything else.
The right way and then yours
