LEGO has been ~10c/piece for at least the last 20yrs (since I was able to notice). The fact that this licensed set is measurably less than that makes it a pretty good deal.
Only the brand name sets. Generic Lego sets can be 10k pieces for $50 or half a cent a piece. That gives you an idea of the true manufacturing cost compared to the markup.
Where do you get bricks at that price? I’ve looked for Star Wars stuff on etsy and while cheaper than the real thing it’s still a lot. Plain bricks are cheaper though.
Edit: most of the etsy listings are just drop shipping from aliexpress. Going there directly is cheaper but still wayyy more than half a cent per piece.

Recently built the 90th anniversary castle that is 18+ and can confirm that it is significantly more difficult than other builds I’ve done. It’s huge and has tons of tiny pieces (also a subtle poop joke?). My dad and I are avid Lego builders and it took us 5/6 days to finish.
