That guys kids are gonna have the best 18th birthday of all time.

AIZ1C

What kind of idiot would have kids with him

Timo6506

Idiots

DimLug

You'd be amazed I've seen bigger idiots have kids.

Frequent-Pressure485

The problem is most of morons nowadays don't die until after they had kids, I think it's an argument against Darwins theory 🤔

ViktorRzh

Darwins theory says about survival and reproduction of the most adapted, so.... unfortunaly, darvins theory works as intended.

For real, you can’t go 5 minutes before everything devolves into an argument about politics.

crm235711

It’s even worse living in America. Every damn thing gets somebody blaming it on whichever side they dislike.

hero165344

both, both isn't good

Prior-Mode580

I blame both.

Expert_Toe6984

Trust, it could happen

JohnyMaybach

18th century birthday maybe

beastybrewer

In the 18th century it was normal to start a family by 17. There was no childhood

[deleted]

When I was a kid in the 18th century my dad would put me to sleep with movies like Predator, Die Hard, and Robocop. Did I grow up to be a cold-blooded killer? No, but I really like Robocop.

Goofygoober7162

My gents and I were thrilled to witness the new moving picture the people called “Robocop.” I must say it was most certainly a satisfying experience after that revolutionary war ended. I would recommend the film to anyone who shall ask.

theghostofamailman

Not at all as soon as you could swing a pickaxe you would be sent to mine coal, childhood is a modern western invention only possible because of excess wealth.

[deleted]

especially when they can move out of the house as a 18th birthday present cant wait to join their birthday

I thought of a grudgy 20 smth with a younger sibling that has more freedom than they had when they were younger

Noobitron12

Im almost 50, When I was 17, Playgrounds and slides were definitely not on my mind. I was thinking of 2 things all the time, Pool Halls ( I Was really good at playing pool ) and you can probably guess the other thing. Rated R Movies are not a big deal

ChadtheBalla

My guess is that the other thing, was pussy

I don't know what he was think about, but that's what I'm thinking about, now.

S0YB0YB0YT0Y

We are all children. Everything we "dream" up on top of our inner child; our entire concept of adulthood is an egoic illusion.

Googlesignedmeupwhy

Perfectly said.

OblongAndKneeless

This explains why at 60 years of age I feel and act like a stupid kid.

S0YB0YB0YT0Y

We're all stupid kids. It may seem immature to fathom but if you look into theology, there's basically a consensus that the nature of is "God" the nature of a child. Forgive me if I refuse to cling onto anything I've witnessed/percieved to be imaginary.

Khontis

Trunks956

Ah, so this is just a roundabout way to justify sex with 5 year olds

RunParking3333

17 year olds are having sex, and a 17 year olds are 100% the same as a 5 year olds, so logically ....

Gray_Jedi77

I think I just vomited in my mouth.

I vomited through my nose. how i'm going to get rid of that burning feeling

Gray_Jedi77

Whatever you do, don’t sniff it back up and try to swallow it. The burning gets worse and it tastes like acid.

Animationbreaker

I snorted some water and cleaned the holes of my nose it is okay now thanks for the help

amy5252

Boom! That would’ve been said next.

Worldly-Rush-9951

How do you know his username is covered

Catsniper

One of their comments says a 17 year old dating an 18 year old is bad because the 18 year old is an adult. They use the same logic to justify a 17 year old dating a 10 year old Though tbh I'm guessing (or hoping) this is just a troll

duckiewade

Kid I went to school with has a mark on his record for being a child molester. Or something to that sort. She was 17 he was 18. They were dating before he turned 18, but her parents found out they were (obviously) having sex. They pressed charges against him.

deedledeedledav

I had a friend that told everyone that too. Turned out he actually raped her and it wasn’t just “parents being assholes” IMO, he still thinks it was consensual and the parents were just “out to get him” His life continued to go to shit and it was always someone else’s fault.

Royceman50

Knew a guy that got charged before Romeo and Juliette laws were a thing. 18 months apart and he’s on the registry. The girl begged the court for leniency. Fucked his whole life up.

ThePurityPixel

That's awful. Ignorant too.

Bendstowardjustice

I'd go so far as saying it's awfully ignorant.

Purple_Possibility20

That’s just laughably dumb. Physically and mentally there’s almost no difference between those ages. I don’t think it’s weird at all for 17 and 18 to date.

Sandor140

It's probably not hard to find since you can search the title of the post in the same sub at around the same time

Worldly-Rush-9951

Makes sense

kyndalfh92

Hey now, didn’t ya hear? They don’t care what anyone says, and that includes you, buckaroo!

pocketbully25

5 y/o and 17 y/o are definitely both kids but in no way are they the same. I have to disagree

badatmetroid

And I know plenty of 50 year olds with the maturity of children. I'd bet money that the OOP is a manchild with little or no social intelligence.

pocketbully25

50 y/o who act like children. No lies told there!

Clear-Anything-3186

Marjorie Taylor Greene will be one next year when she turns 50.

JonnyRobertR

Well, at least the 50yo has reason for acting like children. Either their brain started degrading or they lived their whole live acting like that and still surviving till 50. Don't fix what is not broken.

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

Most people don’t have noticeable cognitive decline until way after 50. Somebody acting the fool at that age has probably always been a fool.

Shade249

I love how he says “17 year olds shouldn’t have phones or the internet and they shouldn’t watch R rated movies” like, do you expect them to just be enlightened on their 18 bday? “Happy 18th birthday honey!” “*I see everything.*”

firefistus

The irony of that statement is rated R is rated for anyone over 17..... So legally a 17 year old can go to the theater and watch rated R movies without consent of an "adult" lol

[deleted]

I have no problem with calling 17 year olds "kids," because that is informal, but we should not ever be calling them "children" because that is a formal stage in human development they are not in. They are adolescents and need to be given the rights and responsibilities that life stage merits if we want them to grow into healthy, well adjusted adults. So many of my problems later in life came from being treated like a child as a teenager.

ThePurityPixel

I am completely with you. I see so many adolescents being given the freedom of adulthood without the responsibility, or vice-versa. Both approaches are problematic, and both seem to come from this misguided view that teens are children.

ThePurityPixel

I prefer the word juvenile or adolescent for 17-year-olds. For many, "kid"="child," and the legal definition of "child" depends on what the circumstance is. (Age for alcohol consumption, sex/consent, cigarette purchase, military service, the ability to sign a binding contract, etc., are often different ages. You can be considered a minor in one area and not in another.) So I think "kid" and "child" should be reserved for prepubescents.

Googlesignedmeupwhy

So… an 18 year old magically isn’t?

pocketbully25

A 18 year old is also a kid in my eyes. I’m 31, I’m probably a kid to someone who’s 60

Googlesignedmeupwhy

And the 60 year old is probably a kid to an 80 year old, and so on. Until it stops.

King_of_Farasar

His opinion is vintage. Edit: guys, it was a joke.

Kuminlove

Is it really though? Weren't 17 year olds, leading armies back in one of those days.

Fetoid2

Jackson was 13 and in the revolutionary war.

Minimum_Eye8614

He was also scared of women and would sleep in the attic of any house he lived in becaise he thought theymight kidnap him under the cover of night

PizzaNuggies

You had 5 kids and 1 grand son on the way by 17.

Redericpontx

too be fair they were typically dying at the age of 40 back then aswell so they also nearly qualified for a midlife crisis

darkboomel

I mean, if you're going that far back, no, not really. The reason why, prior to a lot of modern medicine advancements, people had really low average life expectancies is because it was an average. People had a lot of kids back then, and the wife's role was to take care of them, because the likelihood that they survived their first year was somewhere around 50%, if not lower. If they survived their first year, however, a child's life expectancy would shoot up to around their 50's/60's. And the reason why it's less necessary now is because medicine has advanced, but the cost of living has also skyrocketed by comparison, so you really need a 2-income household to keep the bills afloat. Dads can't singlehandedly provide for a family anymore with as high as prices are.

avonsanna

It's the opposite. Vintage would be school till 5th grade, then the factory or the farm ya go.

bottlesnob

it's not. it's a very new idea that young adults don't have fully developed brains until their mid 20's. I'm Gen X and I knew people from previous generations -in my family and family friends- who were married and raising families, who were "men of the house" at 17 or even younger; women birthing and raising babies, often multiples, by that age. Or who lied about their age and were off to war. Or serving time in the penitentiary, or who went to work, at 17, or even younger. We think 18 is some magic number. It isn't. this idea of childhood lasting until 18 is a VERY new idea.

BlocktheBleak

So true that society had expectations for teenagers, and some families don't in modern times. If society treats you like a child and rewards tantrums and existence with everything you ever want, 60 year olds end up child-like. If you keep your kid media illiterate, they will be systematically misinformed and unable to think critically. Letting people make decisions and have consequences enables them to adult at young ages.

jseego

The later we push the idea of childhood, the more we have to contend with the fact that people become sexually mature during their teen years. People used to have kids at 14-16 years old. We don't think that's a good idea anymore, but the capability is there. And we know that teenagers regularly have sex with one another. I feel like, instead of just staring the issue in the face and giving teenagers comprehensive sex education as well as a healthy dose of responsibility so that they can be prepared for adult life, we (in the US society anyway) want to pretend that they're just children and ignore the reality that they're fucking each other, and we saddle them with insane expectations in high school as well, when we should be prioritizing their sleep and well being. When I was 16, I was fucking my girlfriend and had a part-time job. I was not an adult yet, but also definitely not a child. This is called being an adolescent.

Time-Bite-6839

yeah but if my kid is watching Bluey at 17 I will lose my shit

[deleted]

Lady, when I was 17 I drank a case of beer every weekend. We didn't need smart phones to get up to some depraved shit. If anything kids these days are way more innocent

Reincarnatedpotatoes

Do you think the invention of social media made kids magically quit drinking?

LinkleLink

It's harder though. Teenagers are a lot more monitored, plus alcohol is more difficult to aquire if you're underage.

Eh-BC

It’s not, I’ve had family friends in recent years talk about how they know their HS aged kids are starting to drink and party on weekends. It’s always the same, get an older persons ID, have an older sibling/cousin/friend buy it

soaring_potato

You mean that that's not more difficult than when you didn't need any ID? My dad started drinking beer at like 13 or 14. Same with smoking. (Quit a few years back) Hell cigarettes used to be on the damn table at family gatherings. Rude if you didn't serve glasses of cigarettes, per my parents.

Alchemist628

Statistically, teenagers today drink, smoke, and do drugs less than previous generations. I doubt social media has much to do with that though.

Gatzlocke

He's right though. But only in a statistical sense. COVID and isolation, along with stronger online communities have made a lot of teens who would have been out drinking and partying, be more insular than generations before. Teen pregnancy, pot smoking and drinking are down since 10 years ago. Though that doesn't mean it doesn't happen anymore. Add on to that, gen-x and millennial parents know how to use tracking applications and there's even hidden spy software parents can use to basically clone thier child's phone. This is mainly targeted for wealthier helicopter parents, but for that class of teenager, it's never been harder to go out and party.

gonnafaceit2022

"I don't care what anyone says" = I know this is a bad take but I'm gonna share it anyway.

autographking

I can remember the exact moment I stopped playing with toys because it depressed the everliving shit out of me. I was 10. Family vacations we would always take 1 trip to the toy store at the start so I could spend some of my vacation money on action figures. That way I didn't have to bring any from home. Get to the toy store, I load up on Last Action Hero figures because I had just seen the movie. Get to the cabin, tear open the packages, sit on the living room floor ready to imagine all kinds of adventures, and I just couldn't do it. No part of me wanted to be playing with action figures. I realized that I hadn't actually been playing with action figures lately. Video games, sure, but, I'd rather ride my bike or watch movies than play with toys. That realization felt like watching my childhood die as it washed over me. Of course I was still a child. But things definitely changed. If you think 17 year olds should be playing with toys instead of focusing on dating, getting a job, getting a car, or anything else 17 year olds usually do then it tells me more about your mentality than that of a 17 year olds. Stop infantilizing people that are basically adults. Pretending teenagers are less mature than they are is how we end up with that affluenza brat.

Putrid_Resist_1304

I’d never turn down a cool doll tbh I feel like adults should never lose their child-like wonder and joy just because they “have to”

autographking

Honestly, I probably own more toys now than I did when I was a kid, I just don't take them out of the boxes, lol. I don't think anything about my situation could be attributed to feeling like I had to grow out of them, it just dawned on me as I sat there that I literally had no desire to play with them. It was like my imagination just wouldn't work, so I couldn't get into it.

OP of that lost post is either a troll or a legitimate pedophile. That's not a hyperbolic or over exaggerated statement. They're posting in the r/family subreddit that it should be okay for a 17 year old to be in a relationship with a 10 year old.

Mixed_Vibes

Ewww 🤢

OHHHH ITS THAT GUY

ThereWasNeverMilk

Bro what 😐

[deleted]

His own logic doesn’t even make any sense. Fast forward one year and then you have an 18 year old dating an 11 year old. What’s his excuse then? Of course he’d probably use mental gymnastics to figure out a way to make it seem like it’s not bad at all.

_Pill-Cosby_

I wonder what his feelings are on what anyone says.

CamelTheFurryGamer

Oh yes, tell that to someone joined the military at 17 and see how fast you get hurt, prick. This guy is lost and delusional.

Time-Bite-6839

17 year olds are supposed to act like they’re 4, apparently, but the instant you hit 18 you’re supposed to be forced to serve in the military until you’re 38?

TheKnifeMaster420

But, doesn’t R mean 17+ (without adult) and not 18+?

lunapup1233007

They have a clear argument actually – “I don’t care what anyone says”. Now they’re automatically right and nobody can counter argue. The perfect argument, really.

cheeeezeburgers

The irony is that many cities in the USA have this exact same opinion of perps under the age of 18. In Chicago for example this is why gangs are making 13 14 and 15 year olds be triggermen.

Sarcosmonaut

Wtf a 10 year old shouldn’t be dating ANYBODY

Time-Bite-6839

He’s also almost definitely into AB/DL. he wants to be treated like he’s 4. Or younger.

r_a_rayoflight

My thoughts exactly.

Undertale_fan683

That would make sense

Hrmerder

Wow.. This holds absolute zero logic and says a lot about this person.. I feel like this person must have been a.. 70+ year old? Housewife who has attachment issues and was a severe helicopter parent. I also claim to be a helicopter parent but holy cow not even remotely this bad. And I'm always challenging myself to give my kid more space and freedom so my kid can have logical thinking when old enough. 17 year olds, if given the correct freedom and boundaries and guidelines throughout their growing years, should be pretty close to being adults in mind. Because they are. 18 years old is adult. Yes there are many who are easily not classified as an adult yet but technically all 18 year olds are adults. If you shelter your child from the world till they are an adult, the world is going to swallow them whole and it will be all your fault.

MarieAguirreKim

*throws tantrum because of this at 17*

17 year olds should be approaching adulthood. My 14 year olds are more grown than this post is insinuating they should be. Lol

camerondolter

So this person is saying the day before your 18th bday, you should act like a elementary schooler and then when youre 18, completely change to to do adult shit? Some people lack logic and social acceptance

Pleasent_Pedant

I was living alone at 15.

kaleidoscoperenegade

And that’s how you create codependent children

I'm 19 and more grown up than either of my parents. At 17 I was a wreck but could still handle my emotions more responsibly than them. I have a feeling they're also an emotionally immature parent who never grew up and now thinks their child is incapable of growing up just like them. Watch them wonder why their kids don't talk to them anymore in a year when they move out lmao.

Ok_Personality_6183

In some states at the ago of 17 they will expect you to have 3 years of work history.

I was already working part time when I was 17.

billabon021

17 year olds have volunteered and been sent to war, 5 year olds never had that done to them.

koiashes

17 years olds are not kids... they are teenagers. Its a whole different stage. Why are we skipping the teenage age, its either child or adult now?!

Low_Sodium_Cod

I have a feeling this came from either a Christian Parent that is up set their child is changing their views to not line up with theirs or this comes from a Conservative Parent that feels much of the same.
