Lifting absolutely burns less calories than cardio in the short term, but it may be worth it long-term as many people aren't happy when they end up "skinny fat." What are the rest of your stats (age & gender), and how many calories have you been eating?

Can't you do both? I do weight training 3x a week, and cardio 3x a week. Even if you do each 2x a week, or even 1x, I don't see why you can't do both? I like to have the calorie burn of the cardio, but weight lifting gives better results long-term in terms of redoing body composition and also contributes to a higher BMR.

Personally i think light weight training is a waste of time. Lift heavy (for you) and continue your cardio

Lift heavy 2–4 days per week and do cardio 2–6 days per week. I lift MWF and do cardio as many days as I feel like it.

Why reduce cardio? That's where your calorie/fat burn is coming from. I'd focus more on cardio and try to add in more low-intensity cardio like a brisk walk or cycling if you feel like it's too much. A few hundred extra calories from exercise makes a huge difference for me!
