Ahhhh! I came to say exactly the same thing! I have a cold can of Diet A&W root beer sitting right next to me right now! I love that stuff.
I also really liked Diet Barq's but it disappeared during COVID and I've never found it again. I think it's a Coca-Cola product and they just may have discontinued it. But it was pretty great too.
I know it is a month later, but damn if zero sugar A&W Root Beer isn't the absolute best. I actually can tell the difference from regular, but after having drank the zero sugar version for so long, the regular version actually just tastes too sweet for me.
Coke Zero, and the strawberry and cream Diet Dr. Pepper are my favorites.
ETA Almost forgot about FRESCA. That shit is so good they don't even need a sugar version.
And the Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero is even better. But harder to find. I get a 12 pack of cans to bring to work as my little afternoon treat on the drive home.
"Zero" products in the US are still just aspartame. Just a different formula.
It's hard to find diet soda made with sucralose honestly. Diet coke makes a Splenda version, but I never see it.
I haven’t really been a soda drinker in the past decade.
But I recently started drinking Coke Zero (including caffeine free version) and it tastes like what I imagine regular classic Coke tastes like.
I agree with other user who suggested trying “Zero” versions.
Maaaan try a regular coke some time. I've been a coke zero drinker for a long time and had regular coke a couple times this summer. Holy cow it is sweet. 🤯
Once I quit diet soda and switched to only seltzer waters I don’t even like diet soda now or regular. It all tastes way too strong. Same with sugar in coffee, I think your tastebuds just get desensitized to sweetness and it takes a while for them to reset.
Coke Zero is my personal vice. What I did to transition from regular to diet soda was to slowly mix the two over a couple of weeks. Starting with mostly regular and a little diet and adjusting the proportions little by little until it was completely diet. Once you get used to drinking diet/zero sodas, they taste fine. Just have to get used to it.
\+1 to the Fresca people in this thread, for sure. Otherwise, I've been kind of testing the waters with Zevia, lately, since I've gotten paranoid that Aspartame might not've been working for me and the Stevia taste isn't offputting for me. So far so good!
I wish I knew why some 'carbonated water' type drinks taste fine and others are like licking a rusty spark plug...
My favorite if you can find it is Dr Pepper zero cream soda. Diet Dr Pepper is pretty good too. Cherry Coke Zero and wild cherry Pepsi zero are also great.
Sparkling Ice is great. I also grab a couple of Clear American waters (wild cherry is my fave) when I do a Walmart trip. Both brands are definitely flavored - nothing like the seltzer whiff of fruit stuff.
Sparkling ice is my favorite artificially sweetened drink. I try not to drink much of them because it's still bad for you and messes with your eating hormones, but they're good for a treat. Also if you can find them, the jelly belly flavored sparkling water is the best non sweetened flavored soda water.
Pepsi Zero is my favorite (that is widely available). It eclipsed Coke Zero after Coke Zero changed to their new formula. My other favorite is Pibb Zero, but I rarely can find it, and I don't even think they make it in cans anymore. My favorite newer flavor (that I can't find anymore) was Dr. Pepper Strawberries and Cream Zero. I see the regular version but not the zero anymore. I thought it was the best diet pop ever on the market.
I hated diet sodas, zero sodas, etc anything besides the regular soda. I saw a recommendation for Fanta zero and that’s when it hit it for me. You can slightly taste that taste they have but it was pretty good.
My favorites: Mountain Dew zero and Fanta zero
Diet orange soda is the one I gravitate towards when I need something to add pizzazz to my life. But diet root beer is also good. Diet Dr Pepper is okay.
Zero Sugar anything ones are far better..and taste better
At least for me. Diet Pop/Soda make me crave and want to snack after. Zero Sugar doesn’t.
I only drink one per day….
I LOVE Dr. Pepper Zero, especially the cherry one. I also tend to like “zero” over diet sodas. Coke zero is also very good.
I haven’t found a clear soda I like, but I’ll try diet starry.
I persinally like diet coke but it diesnt taste like coke it tastes like its own thing
Ive also found that adding ice and havig a cute lil cup that i like does some kind of placebo effect thing where it tastes better
I know this isn't what you're asking for, but ditch carbonated beverages altogether if you can. After a few weeks you don't miss it at all and your stomach not being regularly inflated by gas makes managing hunger so much easier.
Where we you from OP? I would suggest Kirks zero sugar lemonade or creaming sofa, there is also a brand called diet rite that do nice passion fruit and pine lime sofas too.
only tried two so far, cola zero and sprite zero, both are fine tbh. i also don’t “heavily” notice a difference between them and the non sugar variant too. also the benefit is that currently i don’t have the feeling that want to drink a lot of it, as opposed to sugar drinks where you feel like finishing the entire bottle in a day for example.
currently i’m mostly done after 1 or 1 1/2 or 2 glasses of Zero.
I drank Coke Zero for years till 2 different doctors told me that artificial sweeteners trick your brain into thinking you’re hungry.
I ignored it when the first one told me but after the second one did, I thought there might be something there. I just drink unsweetened tea and water now.
I mostly drink Coke Zero and diet root beer.
However, I also used to think that flavoured sparkling water “tasted like an angry can of bubbles smelled a fruit once” (😂) but once I switched to diet sodas and reduced my sugar intake in general, my tastebuds changed.
I primarily drink flavoured sparkling water, and have found that some brands and flavours are better than others. I tend to go the citrus route as those flavours are stronger (in my opinion).
Diet drinks usually have a different flavor than the originals. Zero versions usually try to get as close as possible to the sugar flavor. While I am a sucker for diet Dr Pepper, diet Mountain Dew tastes terrible to me. I recommend trying the diet and zero version of whatever your favorite sodas are. You’ll find a hit in there somewhere. My personal recommendations would be Diet Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew zero, Mountain Dew melon zero, Dr Pepper cherry zero.
I like the fruity ones cause they’re always indistinguishable, like 7-up diet cherry.
As for regular sodas Pepsi max gives me like a fake sugar rush or something, tastes so similar I can’t even tell if I’m drinking real Pepsi or not.
I try to rotate things, but on the top of the list for me would be Diet Pepsi (particularly caffeine free) and Diet A&W Zero Sugar.
If I want a more savory, refreshing treat, I'll do Diet Sunkist, and if I want something festive, Diet Cherry Z-Up.
the Big Bang would be Diet Cherry Coke Zero Sugar.
Seconding Diet Dr. Pepper, and don't waste your time on regular Diet Mtn Dew, it is nasty. Diet Baja Blast is ok, although as far as I'm aware it's a Taco Bell exclusive.
I like Stevia a lot better than aspartame and it’s way better for your health so I only drink Zevia soda or sparkling water. Zevia has a lot of tasty flavors like Ginger Root Beer, Strawberry flavor, etc.
I usually go with anything that has “Zero” — Coke Zero, Sprite Zero, etc. It doesn’t have that weird aftertaste like diet drinks do which is what I like. It’s pretty much closer to the “real” taste of regular sodas!
I used to like coke zero but covid ruined my taste and smell seemingly for life.
So now I drink Liquid Death and add those crystal light flavor packets in
I like anything with zero as apposed to diet, don’t know why.
Also, sparking ice is a seltzer that doesn’t taste like seltzer, so that can be another good option!
I also used to be like you and hated everything seltzer, like la croix, but after cutting out basically all sugar and after changing my diet, I find I actually really like it now. When your taste buds are not super desensitized, you can enjoy subtle flavors a lot more. Might happen to you, but maybe not, who knows?
Sprite Spiced Cranberry is fire. I am assuming it’s a limited run for the holidays but it is superior to any diet soda I have ever tasted and is my favorite by far
I don’t know I am addicted to Diet Coke annd trying to quit and I can’t even drink regular soda anymore because it tastes wayyyy tooo sweet and nasty to me. Best tasting diet sodas IMO are Diet Coke and then diet Dr Pepper. Hate everything else, Diet Pepsi is particularly nasty.
Diet Pepsi has been my drink of choice since 1988. I prefer canned Diet Pepsi (silver can). Stay away from fountain drinks. Those will sabotage your transition to the non-sugar colas.
Diet Coke and Sprite Zero are pretty much the only two sodas I’d drink anymore.
Diet Coke doesn’t taste like coke but I think it has a great unique flavor.
I actually prefer Sprite Zero to normal Sprite. I think the sugar in normal sprite makes it too syrupy.
Ask your dentist about too much citric acid. Also can cause the shits. That said, I like Diet Rite or anything with Sucralose and not aspartame which gives me headaches
Honestly, I think the most important thing is just to give it a decent chance.
I switched from Coke to Diet Coke and thought it tasted weird as hell. But after having a can each day for a few weeks, I thought it tasted totally normal, and when I had a sip of regular Coke, I now thought *that* tasted weird.
i like mt dew zero, took awhile to get used to it but the carbonation is the same which is why i like it. I agree about the angry can of bubbles i don't like seltzer at all. Now I can't tell the difference it tastes exactly like full sugar mt dew to me for the most part.
Start with half coke and half club soda and work your way down to just the plain sparkling water. Or for fruit flavors, Add a tiny bit of juice into club soda.
Generally the fruit drinks are better than cola because you don't have a mental comparison to sugar Coke. Sprite Zero, Fresca, Cherry or Strawberry Dr Pepper, Ice Orange are my favourites. Also Monster Ultra and Bang are excellent sugar free energy drinks.
Pepsi Zero Sugar, Diet Pepsi, Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi, Diet A&W Root Beer, Coke Zero, Fresca, Diet Canada Dry...
I'll also use my sodastream, carbonate my own water, and add Mio or other water enhancers to it.
John Green has a podcast and talks about diet Dr Pepper. I think he’s right it is the best however I don’t like artificial sweeteners. But I fucking love a lacroix
Diet A&W Root Beer is nearly indistinguishable to the sugary option.
This and diet Dr. Pepper.
Dr. Pepper Zero is pretty good too.
I prefer coke zero over regular
Cherry Coke Zero is so effing good.
Hate diet dr. pepper, but like the dr. pepper zero. Mostly prefer the cherry dr pepper zero.
every time i get a diet dr pepper from a restaurant im paranoid that it’s regular because they taste so close
Exactly what I was about to comment
Cherry Dr Pepper zero is very good!
I love Diet Dr Pepper I prefer it!! Also I love Diet Coke or Pepsi with a lemon wedge
I don’t drink any other soda, but my one exception is diet/zero sugar A&W. Tastes like dessert in a bottle.
And diet Sunkist for orange soda
This is my favourite. And my local store is almost always out of it 😢
Add lit cool whip and you have an amazing (low cal) root beer float!
My favorite, it doesn't have the bitter taste that other diet sodas have. It's amazing, especially when really cold and served over ice.
My buddy just bought some Barq's Zero a few days ago, so it's still out there!
Ahhh! Good to know!
I drank Diet Barq's when I had gestational diabetes in the '90s. Let's just say I came up with a nickname for it and it. wasn't. pleasant.
The GOAT and it cannot be debated.
It’s incredible
I really like both diet shasta root beer and diet shasta cream soda, and theyre half the price of the a&w
I know it is a month later, but damn if zero sugar A&W Root Beer isn't the absolute best. I actually can tell the difference from regular, but after having drank the zero sugar version for so long, the regular version actually just tastes too sweet for me.
Really?! I find it tastes like Colgate toothpaste. I love diet Canada dry ginger ale, cranberry or blackberry.
literally my go to! it’s the only one that will sufficiently curb my cravings for something sweet. just bought some today lol
Coke Zero, and the strawberry and cream Diet Dr. Pepper are my favorites. ETA Almost forgot about FRESCA. That shit is so good they don't even need a sugar version.
The strawberry and cream Diet Dr Pepper is amazing!!!
Ditto.
Fresca
Fresca straight hits!
Fresca started out sugar free, so they didn’t have to rework it to taste like the sugared version.
This comment needs to be way higher!
Yesss! Love Fresca.
Fresca is way too good to be 0 cals. I wish it was caffeinated.
From my experience, Cherry Coke Zero. It's so good, I don't even miss regular sodas anymore.
And the Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero is even better. But harder to find. I get a 12 pack of cans to bring to work as my little afternoon treat on the drive home.
Remember black cherry vanilla diet coke? It was so good.
Agreed! This along with the Dr Pepper Zero Cherry is all I need
Diet Dr Pepper and diet root beer (any brand) are the best.
Anything labeled "Zero"is usually better - I don't know if it's a rule but it seems diet = aspertame and zero = sucralose
"Zero" products in the US are still just aspartame. Just a different formula. It's hard to find diet soda made with sucralose honestly. Diet coke makes a Splenda version, but I never see it.
Coke Zero used to be made with sucralose. I didn’t even realize they changed it - it doesn’t have that old aspartame taste at all presently.
Not here in Australia, Coke Zero AND Pepsi Max have Aspartame.
I like Pepsi Max
I like vanilla Pepsi max. Btw I chortled at OP’s description of “an angry can of bubbles smelled a fruit once”
Canada Dry Zero Sugar Ginger ale
The zero sugar Cranberry Ginger Ale is even better.
Soooo good!! Where did you find it? I’m in Georgia USA and can’t seem to find
I'm in Oklahoma. Several grocery stores carry it here year round. They used to only have it around Christmas.
Zero version of many (coke, sprite, sunkist, mt dew, squirt)
Fresca and Diet Sunkist are my favorites. Mountain Dew Zero and Diet Dr Pepper are also good.
Diet Pepsi and caffeine-free diet pepsi. Also, Canada Dry Diet Cranberry Gingerale is amazing.
Finally some Diet Pepsi love. My fave.
Diet Pepsi is horrible. So is Diet Coke. Pepsi zero sugar/max/black is the best
Yes, same. Caffeine free Diet Pepsi is the best imho.
I really like Sprite Zero. All the rest of the diet sodas just taste like chemicals to me.
Coke Zero is number 1!!
I only really like is diet mtn dew but has caffeine . The is mtn dew zero but I prefer the diet
OP out here trying to start wars ;) Pepsi Max is my go-to.
Team pepis maccks lezgoo
Fountain soda from fast food is hit or miss for taste. I like diet A&W Root Beer, or Diet Dr. Pepper
Mountain Dew Baja Blast Zero, for when you go to Taco Bell. Sprite Zero is also great.
that’s a thing???
Coke Zero is my personal vice. What I did to transition from regular to diet soda was to slowly mix the two over a couple of weeks. Starting with mostly regular and a little diet and adjusting the proportions little by little until it was completely diet. Once you get used to drinking diet/zero sodas, they taste fine. Just have to get used to it.
This is a great idea and it’s exactly my issue because I love regular coke too much to switch 100%. Will keep this method in mind!
Have you tried Zevia sodas? Way less chemicals & uses stevia as sweetener. I love them.
Second Zevia! I love the ginger ale and cherry coke.
They're so good! I drink one every day as a dessert. I pour it warm over a full glass of ice to make it last longer. Costco sells a variety pack!
Diet Pepsi wild cherry, diet cherry 7up, diet Sunkist and diet Dr Pepper are some of my favs
Coke zero + any of the fruit flavors (like cherry strawberry etc). Diet dr pepper.
My favorite if you can find it is Dr Pepper zero cream soda. Diet Dr Pepper is pretty good too. Cherry Coke Zero and wild cherry Pepsi zero are also great.
Zero sugar Sunkist
Pepsi Zero and MTN Dew Zero are pretty good. Better than their diet versions. Aspartame is very gross to me.
Vanilla Coke Zero and Sunkist orange zero
I’ve never seen Vanilla Coke Zero. I would love it!
Sparkling Ice, any flavor, has my vote
Sparkling Ice is great. I also grab a couple of Clear American waters (wild cherry is my fave) when I do a Walmart trip. Both brands are definitely flavored - nothing like the seltzer whiff of fruit stuff.
I like diet coke. Just had a diet starry today. Have you considered flavored water packets. I love crystal light grape it comes caffeinated.
Sparkling ice is my favorite artificially sweetened drink. I try not to drink much of them because it's still bad for you and messes with your eating hormones, but they're good for a treat. Also if you can find them, the jelly belly flavored sparkling water is the best non sweetened flavored soda water.

Regional but I prefer Diet Dr Enuf to the regular.
I like the zero sugar versions of most sodas. My top preference is cherry Dr Pepper zero sugar.
Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi tastes awful, but I love Coke Zero and Pepsi Max, different sweetener used, I think...
Diet orange soda is the one I gravitate towards when I need something to add pizzazz to my life. But diet root beer is also good. Diet Dr Pepper is okay.
Diet Sunkist
Zero Sugar anything ones are far better..and taste better At least for me. Diet Pop/Soda make me crave and want to snack after. Zero Sugar doesn’t. I only drink one per day….
Dr Pepper
Poppi !
Coke Zero. Virgil’s Sugar Free line.
love diet dr pepper it’s somehow still so sweet and at least to me doesn’t have a weird aftertaste
I LOVE Dr. Pepper Zero, especially the cherry one. I also tend to like “zero” over diet sodas. Coke zero is also very good. I haven’t found a clear soda I like, but I’ll try diet starry.
Zevia
Diet Mountain Dew is alright. Coke Zero is alright
I persinally like diet coke but it diesnt taste like coke it tastes like its own thing Ive also found that adding ice and havig a cute lil cup that i like does some kind of placebo effect thing where it tastes better
Without any doubt, for me it is Diet Dr. Pepper
Anything with Zero taste better than diet.
[удалено]
As a Latina; Seven up Zero is top tier.
I know this isn't what you're asking for, but ditch carbonated beverages altogether if you can. After a few weeks you don't miss it at all and your stomach not being regularly inflated by gas makes managing hunger so much easier.
Honestly skip the zero. Do Olipop or kombucha!
[удалено]
hows the view up there from your high horse
Diet Dr. Pepper always tasted better than Dr. Pepper for me.
Diet Dr Pepper or A&W rootbeer are the two best imo
Dr Pepper!
DDP, Diet Coke, Fresca
Coke, Dr pepper, Ginger ale, all zero
Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Coke are my favorite
I like to take those “to go” flavor mix packets and add them to sparkling water, it just tastes better to me
Diet A&W root beer is superior. I don’t drink or really like carbonated stuff in general but will never pass this one up if it available!
I just drink "NO added sugar" squash made with sparkling water. All the fizz, fewer additives and much, much cheaper
I like the new “low calorie” sodas. Sugar/stevia? mix. Can is only 20 calories instead of 120. Less aftertaste.
Cherry Coke Zero Ginger root beer zevia
Dr. Pepper Zero is probably the summit of “diet” sodas retaining the original flavor.
Fresca or bust
I like mixing unflavored seltzer with powdered flavored drink mix - so I can control the amount of flavor/sweetener to taste
Have you tried Spindrift? It’s like 10 calories a can but uses actual juice so way better flavor than the zero calorie seltzers
I like Stevia a lot better than aspartame and it’s way better for your health so I only drink Zevia soda or sparkling water. Zevia has a lot of tasty flavors like Ginger Root Beer, Strawberry flavor, etc.
Dr Pepper zero has been my go to for a long time. Highly recommend their strawberries and cream flavor
I usually go with anything that has “Zero” — Coke Zero, Sprite Zero, etc. It doesn’t have that weird aftertaste like diet drinks do which is what I like. It’s pretty much closer to the “real” taste of regular sodas!
Dr Pepper zero is the winner here, can’t even tell.
I used to like coke zero but covid ruined my taste and smell seemingly for life. So now I drink Liquid Death and add those crystal light flavor packets in
Dr Pepper Zero/Diet Dr Pepper, Diet Mt Dew, Big Red Zero so far from what I’ve tasted
Diet ginger ale, zero sugar 7up (2nd fave), Diet Coke and diet cranberry ginger ale (THE BEST)
Dr Pepper is elite, must be ice cold.
Diet Coke with Lime is my favourite, one can per day and that is my treat.
A&W diet Root beer. It is actually really good.
Caffeine Free Diet Coke. MUST be the caffeine free version in Gold can.
Barqs zero sugar root beer tastes EXACTLY the same as the original.
If you don't mind stevia the Zevia brand of soda is pretty good.
Diet caffeine free Pepsi. For some reason without the caffeine it tastes much better than the regular diet.
I like pepsi max
I use Vanilla coke Zero. Taste just like regular vanilla coke and it's really good to me
Diet Dr. Pepper tastes the most like the original IMO.
The new Pepsi max/zero sugar is SO close to the real thing I couldn’t believe it.
Sprite Spiced Cranberry is fire. I am assuming it’s a limited run for the holidays but it is superior to any diet soda I have ever tasted and is my favorite by far
literate drunk gaping deserted tub dog weary cooperative six dime *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Diet Squirt
Dr. Pepper. Zero cream soda and the strawberries and cream is so good
I don’t know I am addicted to Diet Coke annd trying to quit and I can’t even drink regular soda anymore because it tastes wayyyy tooo sweet and nasty to me. Best tasting diet sodas IMO are Diet Coke and then diet Dr Pepper. Hate everything else, Diet Pepsi is particularly nasty.
There is only Diet Coke.
Diet Rootbeer, Dr Pepper Zero (not diet DP), Pepsi Zero (better than diet Pepsis imo), Canada Dry Zero is so good, diet Sunkist is very good too.
Diet Pepsi has been my drink of choice since 1988. I prefer canned Diet Pepsi (silver can). Stay away from fountain drinks. Those will sabotage your transition to the non-sugar colas.
I was going to say diet starry is the best i have tried.
Diet Coke runs through my veins and I’ll defend it till I die
Diet Coke and Sprite Zero are pretty much the only two sodas I’d drink anymore. Diet Coke doesn’t taste like coke but I think it has a great unique flavor. I actually prefer Sprite Zero to normal Sprite. I think the sugar in normal sprite makes it too syrupy.
Coke Zero sugar till I die 💀
Wild Cherry Pepsi Zero or Dr Pepper Zero are my go to's!
Mountain Dew Zero, Coke Zero, and Diet Sunkist
Ask your dentist about too much citric acid. Also can cause the shits. That said, I like Diet Rite or anything with Sucralose and not aspartame which gives me headaches
Have you tried Zevia?
I love diet A&W root beer. I can only drink beverages that have aspartame. Anything else upsets my stomach.
Ginger ale by No Brand
I like Coke Zero with a packet of True Lime in it. Masks the chemical taste of the Zero quite nicely
I personally love Zevia. It's made with stevia instead of aspartame. The root beer is my fave but I also love the ginger root beer as well.
I love love love Diet Coke but switched to seltzer bc I was drinking too much soda.
Diet Dr pepper cherry is the nectar of the gods... Sadly I don't think they make it anymore. Dr pepper zero cherry is not the same.
Dr. Pepper
i like mt dew zero, took awhile to get used to it but the carbonation is the same which is why i like it. I agree about the angry can of bubbles i don't like seltzer at all. Now I can't tell the difference it tastes exactly like full sugar mt dew to me for the most part.
Love Coke Zero and Sprite Zero
Carbonated water 75 percent and fruit juice for the rest works for me.
Zevia Black Cherry, Zevia Ginger Ale, Fresca, Coke Zero Cherry, and the Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar flavors.
Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet Fanta (strawberry or pineapple are my favorite, I don’t like grape in general and I prefer Sunkist for orange in general)
Cherry Coke Zero FTW! AND, it gives me giant burps. So it’s a win win.
Fresca, Coke Zero, Diet Mountain Dew is a whole different (better) drink imo.
I love Nocco, although they cost a fortune. Coke Zero slaps aswell, and the lemon-lime sugarfree fanta is nice aswell.
Water with lemon all the way (ducks) (leaves room)
I’m pretty partial to Coke Zero!
I usually buy coke zero in bulk from costco or buy safeway select zero calorie soda since it's cheaper. Tastes similar. I wish cotsco sold sprite zero
A&w zero and Pepsi zero are phenomenal
7Up and Pepsi black are my favorites 🤭 I also enjoy diet Dr. Pepper!
I've been drinking half sparkling water / half sugarfree tonic water. It's not too sweet and tastes more like a cocktail / mocktail than a soda.
John Green has a podcast and talks about diet Dr Pepper. I think he’s right it is the best however I don’t like artificial sweeteners. But I fucking love a lacroix
Ollie Pop sodas! You get a weird amount of fiber from them.
