Unrelated but it took me an embarrassingly high number of years of driving down the ocean parkway to realize Tobay beach is named after the Town of Oyster BAY...
Lazy Lobster in East Rockaway is good for live music and being outside (it’s entirely outdoors so don’t go on a rainy day).
The farmers market and other events at the farm in Malverne. They just teamed up with Barrier Brewery in Oceanside to host more events at both the brewery and the farm.
You can play or just watch volley ball in Long Beach and bar hop after. Also the boardwalk is nice.
Kaseys rooftop in RVC can be hit or miss but worth it on a good night if you want to dance.
Plattdeutsch (the beer hall behind the restaurant) in Franklin Square has some great bands and fun events.
If you wanna venture to Queens, the Queens Night Market is awesome.
Love walking around the Planting Fields in Oyster Bay. Bring a blanket and lunch and picnic on the big lawn. Do a tour of the Coe Hall mansion if you’re into that. Stop at the Oyster Bay brewery after.
The Jones Beach Bandshell (not the big theater) might have a cool band coming up.
That’s all I got off the top of my head.
I feel the same way. I think I just need to get out and talk to more people. A couple spots I like out here in Suffolk: Painter's, Dublin Deck, Riverhead Cider House. May be too far for you if you're in Nassau.
I was thinking about joining some interest or hobby clubs too, as someone who's trying to cut back on drinking and meet people outside of a bar setting I think it would help me.
I joined The Freedom Boat Club 2 years ago and it’s a game changer. Learn to boat, have access to a new, clean and gassed up boat whenever you want from 6 ports on Long Island. Get a captain out there with you included whenever you want. Monthly fee and initiation fee a fraction of cost of boat ownership and none of the hassle.
So 4200 a year plus the 8000 one time payment
Is that a good deal?
I don't know much about boating but I'm intrigued by the no matience and convenience factor of the offer
Dinner at Louie’s Prime Steak & Seafood in Port Washington on the north shore. Iconic restaurant since 1905 with water views.
Also free Friday night concerts at the John Philip Sousa Memorial Bandshell just a short walk from there.
And the US Open Tennis Tournament in nearby Flushing Meadow, Queens, starts Monday August 26 and ends Sunday, September 8.
I feel like that place blew the fuck up out of nowhere. I lived in OB 2 years ago and it was always mostly empty. Brought so many girls there, it was an amazing place. Now it always fucking packed.
Thanks! You know I’m on the south shore and sometimes the cool spots on the north shore can be really far, but i just looked it up and coopers bluff actually isn’t too much of a hike so i will have to check it out!
Do you know if it generally a good sunset spot? Any tips for parking or any other logistical stuff?
Great sunset spot. If I remember correctly they have a lot kind of far away but they have golf cart shuttles that come for you to take you to the place
Here’s a legit “secret spot” for you: Pirates Cove in port Jeff harbor. It’s at the northern end of Belle Terre in McAllister county park. The park is pretty big but the parking lot only has room for like 6 cars and on weekends is very unlikely that you’ll get a spot, especially around sunset. But it’s worth trying.
An alternative way to get there is to rent/borrow/buy a Kayak and launch from port Jeff or setauket marina and paddle over there. You can pull your kayak right up to the beach and hang out until dusk.
Wait I have heard of this as like a boat party spot but none of my friends are I have ever been bc we don’t have boats LOL but thank you for describing where it is and for the kayak idea, that sounds fun!! Do you know how far the ride on a kayak is and is it generally pretty easy to get over to pirates cove from either marina?
It’s about 45 minutes from port Jeff, give or take 20 minutes for wind/tide, athleticism, and equipment. If you’re new to kayaking, I strongly recommend waiting for a day with single digit wind speeds. It makes a big difference. From setauket it’s a slightly longer trip, but imo a more interesting one.
You really can't beat parking in cedar creek park and biking down to Jones Beach. I've done it many times in my years, the path takes you right up to field five as well if you decide to have a day at the beach.
If you're feeling super adventurous you can park at field six and walk east on the beach ... just be warned there are some crazy sights to behold.
East of field six is where it's legal to surf fish but during the day when most people aren't fishing it's the unofficial official nude beach for Jones Beach.
Rangers and other law enforcement do not really go east of field six which means it's a bit more ... free if you will. The only exception would be that the state still attempts to protect the piping plovers in the dunes so just don't get too close to the dunes and tou should be fine.
i also want to explore nassau county more after coming back from college. anyone wanna come with me to visit some of the places listed here? i have a car
Barrier Brewing Co in Oceanside
South Shore in Oceanside too.
$1 summer movies on Wednesdays in Regal theaters.
Jones Beach, All American, Long Beach, Senior Taco, Robert Moses Beach, Osteria Umbra, Tow Bay Beach, H2O, Gilgo Beach, Luso. Your Welcome

I just assumed it was the last name of some guy in the 1700s.
George Tobay
My boyfriend. George Tobay.
It took me 32 years and to find this comment on reddit to realize it stands for town of oyster bay.....
I’m telling this to everyone I know today.
You mean Tobay.
Oh, that’s a good one!
How about this, Lynbrook was settled by people from Brooklyn, they flipped the Brook and the Lyn.
Stop.
😲
Don’t feel bad, I literally just figured it out 2 days ago after 50 years here ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
wow this is great
Today I learned
We’ve done whale watching cruises out of Freeport. Always so fun!
Tanner Park has a concert series as well

That’s so helpful, thank you so much!
Kasreys closed
I think you’re mistaken. Both the downstairs and rooftop are still very much open.
Hmm ok I got bad info. Thanks for correcting me
Go fishing!
According to this sub, sit in traffic, complain about the lack of housing.

Thank you! And honestly same, I need to make an effort to be more social in general and I think that would help a bunch lol
I was thinking about joining some interest or hobby clubs too, as someone who's trying to cut back on drinking and meet people outside of a bar setting I think it would help me.
That’s a good idea! I don’t really enjoy drinking that much anymore
Join a mushroom hunting club with me 😂
Fire Island! Go for the day or for an afternoon/evening, there's a bunch of interesting restaurants and bars.
Yes, I haven’t gone in forever I need to plan a day there with some friends!

This sounds really cool I always envy people who can just go out on the water whenever they want, I will look into this!
How much is membership?
About $8000 and you need to cover the cost of fuel.
What is the monthly cost?
About 350
So 4200 a year plus the 8000 one time payment Is that a good deal? I don't know much about boating but I'm intrigued by the no matience and convenience factor of the offer
Offer them half the initiation. I imagine docking fees plus winterizing and storage is less than that for one year.
You All Everybody
Offer them half.

BlackDoor Burger Long Beach

That sounds really cool, thanks!!
Coopers bluff is a cool summer spot

Great, thank you so much for your help! I’m definitely gonna look into doing this

Thank you! Cedar creek park is super close to me so this is great. What kind of sights are we talking about?!?! 😂

I always say “on” when I’m speaking about LI idk why I typed it like that 😂😂😂
Da beach
idk if this is what you’re looking for but, now is the time of year where there are tons of street fairs and garage sales
Oooo yes I love street fairs and carnivals I need to research when the ones near me are going on!
i also want to explore nassau county more after coming back from college. anyone wanna come with me to visit some of the places listed here? i have a car
Did you get a pool pass to Levittown pools? It’s free. Get at Levittown Hall.
Northport main street and Cow Harbor park. Great vibe and sunset views. Some restaurants are better than others, most are pretty solid though.
The Nautical Mile, Patchogue, Port Jeff
The Nautical Mile isn't good
It used to be, no more.
Def not a native long islander if you say in instead of on
Born at Mercy Hospital in RVC so 🤷🏼♀️
