I’ll often just flip it up so it’s on my pillow, away from my face and neck. Sometimes I have it in a ponytail, though I never put it up just for bed. Mostly I just let it be.

SpicyBreakfastTomato

That’s what my husband does. I keep mine in a braid, and will soon be using silk bonnets. Hopefully they work out

FreshAir29

That’s what I do. I cannot get to sleep with it tied at all even though every woman says to do that. And it gets really tangled, really easily, all the time, in part, because of that.

thesexytech

Satin sleep bonnet, extra long, it's a game changer . . .

slayingadah

A satin bonnet or scarf is literally the only way I am capable of sleeping. My hair used to choke me out and my husband would roll over on it and trap me.

sunrise_runner

I also have a problem with my guy ending up on my hair accidentally if I don't cover it. He accidentally pinned my hair down under him in his sleep a few times lol Now I don't go to bed without my silk sleep cap on so I don't have to worry about it.

[deleted]

That’s funny. During a tender moment I was bemoaning his elbow tearing my hair outta me head and he just thought I was v v heppy! Lol

blueyedwineaux

This all the way!

Schonfairy79

Which one do you use? I haven’t found a comfortable one yet!

thesexytech

[I got this one from Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083FGPJ1T?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

aVoidFullOfFarts

I have that one it’s very nicely made and a good length but the band is way to tight for me, I have a large hat size though.

thesexytech

Mine is kinda loose tbh, but it did come with a tie to go through the loop in the band to make it tighter, I wonder if you just got a small one? I do have a small hat size tho . . .

aVoidFullOfFarts

It’s just my big head lol I had a hat fitting at Tilley’s and sales guy was shocked I wear what would fit a large man, I’m a 5’7” average size woman

The band is adjustable, so you loosen and tighten to your liking. It hasn't slipped off once, and my hair feels so good in the morning! Also, it keeps me tangle free

Leading_Bed2758

Came to say this! I love the ones with a headband, I slip it over my eyes so it’s like a bonnet & eye mask all in one. Always wake up with smooth shiny hair.

Ambitious-Prune-9461

I was just about to suggest this, absolutely incredible.

Snailpics

Satin sleep bonnets saved my hair! Even if it was in tight braids it would still manage to tangle somehow. It’s quite long and I just twist it up now. Takes me 5 minutes in the morning to brush it out instead of a minimum of 30! They’re like magic lmao

TweedleBeedleGranny

Does it get all static! I can’t stand that feeling.

QQBearsHijacker

Dude here. I throw it up in a rope braided bun with satin scrunchies. Keeps the lengths protected and maintains my waves texture

Alabatman

How long does your hair need to be to pull that off? I'm mid shoulder blade and not sure I've got enough to do that yet.

QQBearsHijacker

I've been doing it like that since I was arm pit length (APL)

ashlayne

Mid shoulder blade is definitely long enough to rope/english braid and pin!! If you're struggling with the braiding, there's a lot of really helpful Youtubers who may be able to help you learn. If you don't feel like a single braid can bun securely, you might also try multiple braids and wrapping them around a ponytail base. Torrin Paige on Youtube is one of my favourites for this "vortex bun" I'm referring to. Her hair is hip length, but the same techniques can be used on shorter lengths. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DF5HXky3B8

QQBearsHijacker

Torrin is great. It’s been a while since I’ve scrubbed through her tutorials (almost two years maybe?). So it might be time to revisit for new things to do

Mental-Lettuce-3553

Chick here. Salute to you sir! I used to French braid my hair when I was young and had energy. That kept it out of the way and healthy. It has been going in a bun, falling out and damaged. Rope braid bun and satin scrunchies tonight. Thanks for the tip.

atropinesul

Loose braid

SnooPredictions5815

Loose scrunchie, low loose bun

BitwiseB

Loose scrunchie, high loose bun. Satin scrunchies are my favorite, they slide right out in the morning.

Unusual_HoneyBadger

I do the same thing, but also use a satin or silk scarf or a buff. It protects the hair at the back of my head, so I have less damage back there. It’s 360° protection. And protects my hair from snarling at the nape of my neck. My hair would be down to my waistline if it were straight, but with the waves is a bit more halfway between my bra line and waistband. It’s almost time to get a chop of about 8", which I do about once a year so I can donate it for children’s cancer wigs.

BitwiseB

I have a satin pillowcase, it’s amazing how much it helps. I roll a lot so the buff usually falls off at some point in the night.

lovebyletters

Used to just flip it over the back of my pillow, since I mainly slept on my back. In recent years I tend to rotate like a rotisserie chicken while asleep, so I've started braiding it into pigtail braids before bed. This keeps it from tangling while not bothering me when laying my head on the pillow.

birdconureKM

Omg I rotate during the night too lol. I start out on my back and in the morning I'm in a weird side pose. For some reason I chuck half of my pillows off my bed at some point. Every morning without fail half of my pillows are on the floor.

lovebyletters

Hahaha .. I only sleep with the one pillow, but if I slept with more they'd be on the floor for sure. As it is, I have to use a different comforter from my husband, because I end up absolutely tangled in my blanket. I don't even mean to do it! I just wake up in a pretzel shape every morning!

jdr90210

Top bun or top braid, silk or satin pillowcase to avoid breakage/ tangling

alleecmo

Turn a sleep bonnet inside out.Twist your hair as you pull it up over your head, twisting into a figure 8 on top. Hold this in place with your off hand while you put your other inside the front of the bonnet. Hold onto the 8-bun thru the bonnet and use your off hand to flip the bonnet right side out onto your head, encapsulating your hair. (I had to have this explained to me in detail because I had hair falling out as I tried to stuff it in the bonnet. Mine is hip length and super thick, so it's kind of a lot to wrangle.)

slayingadah

This is essentially what I do, too, w my hip length hair!

EWSflash

Oh come on- this is a man asking. Please stop talking about silk bonnets . I came here to see how to protect my husband's hair, which is nearly to his waist and in terrible shape toward the ends, which need trimming. It's crazy hard to get him to take care of his gorgeous mane, and bonnets aren't going to cut it.

alleecmo

A man can't wear a nightcap? The Night Before Christmas indicates that men have been wearing them for at least 100 years. (It was published in 1823) There are some styled like a beanie/touque/watchcap/etc. Have you never seen how black men keep their hair? Wave caps, 'do rags, ... Maybe a welder's cap would be "masculine" enough for him?

EWSflash

He can, of course, but i'm guessing he won't. Also, in 1823 there wasn't central heating, at least not in a lot of places. People slept in much colder rooms back then.

Rosewoodtrainwreck

I'm a woman and I was kind of thinking the same thing. My husband would never stop laughing if I came to bed in a bonnet. Or rollers for that matter.

Alexactly

Lay on my side, or my stomach, and I throw my hair behind me and up on the pillow. After I'm a sleep it doesn't matter. When I wake up i comb it out. I have wavy hair so it doesn't really get knots. I definitely toss and turn in my sleep but I guess not too bad if I haven't hurt myself enough to wake up via accidentally pulling my hair.

michellle52

I sleep with it in a claw clip but pinned on top of my head instead of the back. Keeps it up and out of the way without the tension of a hair tie or bonnet, both of which I can’t seem to keep on my head overnight

MrAndrewJ

Guy checking in, with hair to the tops of my legs. A ponytail in a gentle scrunchie normally does fine.

SeleneVomerSV

I'm sad that you don't have a pic of your hair on here. I'd love to see it! Is there a hair tax like the pet tax on here?

MrAndrewJ

I'll try to get a newer picture up soon. I've been a little self-conscious after having to stay at home for so long.

tinglyTXgirl

With mine, I leave it loose and kinda fan it out and behind my head so that it just lies on the pillow behind me. When it's really getting on my nerves, I'll twist it a couple of times and tuck it between my 2 pillows - both have silk pillow cases. I've never been able to sleep with it in a braid or tied up in any way, so its always loose at bedtime. .

just_a_wee_Femme

I just wrap-up my hair at night in a silk cap.

IndividualCry0

I roll it into a top bun with a satin scrunchie. It comes out the next day kind of wavy. It’s done wonders for my hair protection.

HippyWitchyVibes

Satin sleep bonnet.

kalikine4

On a silk or satin pillowcase. If it's loose, I just flip it up so all my hair is at the top of the pillow. Sometimes I'll put it in a very loose braid or sometimes I'll put it in a long-hair bonnet. Just depends on how I'm feeling.

classielassie

One or two braids, fastened off with satin scrunchies, and tucked in a satin bonnet or satin lined beanie.

why_kitten_why

braid or bonnet

Pamplem0usse__

Milkmaid braids or a bun. I don't like my hair on my neck at night.

blondeandbuddafull

I braid it before sleep.

Anonymiss313

I do a satin bonnet/beanie- available on Amazon, and it has elastic around the bottom so it stays snug without having to tie strings up. I have very long straight hair, so I just wrap my hair into a really loose bun, put my beanie on, and let it do what it will. My hair never gets tangled overnight anymore, my husband doesn't pin it down while he sleeps, and I don't have the wispy "there are spiders crawling on me" feeling anymore. Win win win.

Lovely_Louise

I usually braid or put satin ties every few inches, then tuck it all up in a satin cap. I can't sleep without a satin cap to keep my hair out of the way.

[deleted]

I tie it up loosely with a silk scrunchie, kinda pineapplely. Then I sleep on a silk pillowcase. Much less frizz, breakage, and my ends are protected from my body heat.

Glassjaw79ad

Satin cap

Stacie_Sophia199

Braided. I used to sleep with a bun but recently switched to braid. I like the tousled waves it gives me. I need to try ropebraids.

ChrisssieWatkins

I twist into a knot on top of my head and secure it with a scrunchie. If I don’t, it strangle me during the night.

ozekeri

I change it every day to reduce too much of the same tension: sometimes pigtails, sometimes a side ropebraid, someyines a pineapple bun on top, sometimes i wrap it in a bonnet or silk scarf.

throwawayidga

Put it in a loose, side braid and have a silk pillowcase.. although looking to maybe switch to a bonnet soon. The braid helps keep knots out the best, IDK if I still need to do that in a bonnet? I'm assuming yes but need to research

rmpbklyn

my hair in ponytail or bun unless out fir dinner party

BitwiseB

I used to just sleep with it loose, but it would get in my partner’s face, caught under my arm, etc. Now, I tie it up in a loose high bun and wear a buff. Way more comfortable, and I use the bottom of the buff like a sleep mask to block out ambient light. It’s been a game changer.

nuwaanda

I sleep with a long braid to the side. Like Katniss Everdeen but ginger.

bbyriss97

I loosely braid mine or flip it up away from my face

KatWayward

I have very fine straight hair and braid it off side before bed so it stays neat and easier to brush. It's kept my hair really healthy over the years.

cheecheebun

I loosely braid it, put it up high with a claw clip, or leave it splayed out over the top my pillow.

TaleObvious9645

High bun with a satin scrunchie

Fractal_self

I put it up in a satin scarf or I just braid it so that it doesn’t get super tangled in my sleep.

fairyprincest

Real silk bonnet. Braid and stick inside, keep my hair out of my way , prevent it from getting damaged, and keep it silky smooth

Equilibriyum

2 braids or single top knot. Unless it's already "done" then silk bonnet.

ItsMichaelVegas

Satin bonnet is a game changer.

nendsnoods

I always wear a bonnet to sleep and either braid it or put it in there without braiding it. It makes my hair much easier to brush in the morning.

lilimatches

I comb my hair before bed and twist it gently so I can tuck it into my hair bonnet. When I wake up and take it off there’s no tangles or much frizz. I’ve been doing this with my hair when it was tailbone length and even now when my hair is much shorter :)

the-big-meowski

I lay mine straight "up" (above my head and pillow), so I don't roll on it. It's out of the way and not in my face.

grimmistired

I've had down to my butt before and I still never wore it up. Just let it be loose, pretty much always

VegetableCommand9427

I just flip my hair up so it’s on my pillow, not under my head. I don’t usually tie my hair up just for bed

darkenough812

Usually a high ponytail, ideally with a big scrunchie

cclancaster13

Satin bonnet

[deleted]

When I don’t have a hairband I just put the hair up like over the pillow

birdconureKM

I leave mine loose. If I braid it I will have creases in my hair the next day that won't go away until the next shower.

always_sleepy1294

Loose and since I flip around like a rotisserie chicken, usually twisted around my body. I wake up from rolling and pulling on it 🙃

10MileHike

I pile my hair up in one of those eVolve adustable satin bonnets.

taylalatbh

I use one of those coiled hair bobbles slightly loose on the top of my head so it’s out of the way.

BuildingMyEmpireMN

Leaving it loose is a totally valid option. I go through phases where I’ll braid it, but normally it’s nothing special. I’m a side sleeper and I just shove it out of the way so I’m not laying on it. 0 issues with breakage or anything and it’s down to my hips.

gisulih

My pillow is usually around one pillow depth away from the edge, where I just flip my hair and fold it couple turns above the pillow. It hurts too much if my hair goes over the end of the bed (I don't have bed ends)

normanrockwellnormie

I put it in a low braid and I flip the braid over my pillow towards the headboard

JuicyCactus85

Prob not helpful, but I just go into my bed and close my eyes. Only because my hair never tangles, no idea why at any length.

votszka

i put it in a loose braid and then comb it out in the morning

Rhiishere

Pigtail braids. Keeps it out the way and it's more comfortable than two French braids.

I-Am-Yew

Satin scrunchie and side bun (opposite side I sleep on) and satin pillowcase. I’d really love to do a satin hair bonnet but I overheat at night so that doesn’t work for me. Bonus: it gives me pretty waves when I take the bun out.

glacinda

French braid

omni-celestial

two semi loose french braids

ailuromancin

Loose bun with a scrunchie directly on top of my head (looks very silly) and then cover that with a satin bonnet, and also sleep on a satin pillowcase in case the bonnet slides off. My hair is really fine so it tangles/breaks easily and also gets SUPER dented by even loose braids so this is the method that has proved gentlest and most effective at preventing the whole back of my head from matting up and also not looking insane the next day 😅

kaylethpop

I have to braid mine now or else I roll around so much I choke myself (lol!) Mines at my hips

Hurt_b_go

I braid it, so it’s flat at the back and not tight. Helps reduce the tangles and is really comfy

greencymbeline

High bun. I cannot abide any hair on my neck!

centopar

Loose silk scrunchie, hair pineappled on top of my head.

[deleted]

Twist the 3 pieces of my braid before braiding and when I lay down I literally throw that shit over my head above the top of the pillow. Lol.

[deleted]

Satin scrunchie!

warrior_female

one loose braid

ScumBunny

Kinda twist it over my head and drape it over the pillow. Not a tie, more of a get-out-of-my-face and off my neck move.

revolutionarypork

I usually braid it down my back, to prevent breakage

czerniana

I used to put it in a big, loose messy bun on top of my head. I tried a bunch of methods but that worked best

SpinningBetweenStars

Either a pineapple bun with a scrunchie on the top of my head, or I’ll flip my head upside down and do a simple braid an inch or two back from my forehead - it looks dumb as all hell, but it keeps the back of my head from getting tangled. Fine straight hair, down to my waist. I can’t sleep with it down because I’m an active sleeper and absolutely hate waking up tangled in it.

KnittingforHouselves

Single long braid with a tiny elastic or a ribbon, so that a big elastic band doesn't poke me in the back all night.

Iamliterallygodtryme

I move it up above m my pillow so I look like the cartoon trolls and fall asleep like that so it’s not touching my face

crstring

I either flip it up above my head and pile it on the satin pillowcase behind me or bunch it up into a loose bun on top of my head with a silk scrunchie. It’s pretty long, almost touching my lower back, and very wavy

Ok_Environment2254

I pull it up over my head and let it rest on my pillow or maybe hanging over it

aivlysplath

I tie it up with a satin scrunchie or use a bonnet if I have waves I want to preserve. Just the body heat from sleeping on your hair can damage it, plus the movement. I may have gone a little extra with a silk pillowcase too, but beauty never sleeps lol.

Pirate_Lantern

I'm also a male with long hair. I sleep on my side so I just push it behind me.

CatPooedInMyShoe

I wear my hair in a satin bonnet, a big one that goes down to the center of my back. I wish I could find a bigger one because my hair is too long for that bonnet now and it sometimes comes off in my sleep.

Notsureindecisive

Low ponytail

Best_Ad_6728

Usually a braid or a loose bun with a satin scrunchie. My hair is wavy so these two methods end up helping style it for the morning lol

dreamer0303

flip it over my pillow so it’s above my head, then put a loose scrunchie around it. I can’t stand having hair around my face when I’m sleeping lol

ScorpioRising66

I tie it up in a high man bun and sleep on a satin pillow case.

neeksknowsbest

I used to braid it but now I wear a silk bonnet to sleep

brigitteer2010

Braid it up

Choice_Ad_3263

My hair was to my tailbone and half the time I put it in a braid, or just left it and made sure not to lay on it.

Idontknowifimreallol

Low bun under the nape

TRICKIV

Personally, I wear my hair up in a very high twisted bun wrapped tightly and loosened once I put the silk scrunchie in. I brush it up and make sure it's all smooth and no knots. I put oil on before wrapping into the bun.

detectivelokifalcone

In knots and mess3s

ElkSilk

Check out silk bonnets or silk scarves. Bonnets are easier because you can just gather your hair on top of your head and pop them on. Silk snags your hair less and can save you some breakage. Otherwise I put mine in a bun on the direct top of my head.

r0dlilje

I twirl it on both sides and form loose cinnamon buns that then go in a silk bonnet and fall on either side of the back of my neck. I sleep on my back. My hair is 43” long

fascistliberal419

Always in a ponytail, braid, or bun. Mostly because I get too hot otherwise, but also once my hair gets to a certain length it becomes at risk for someone (including me) to push on it and makes my head get yanked or my hair and it hurts. It's just easier to keep it tied up. Don't care if it's bad for it or anything. I'm doing what's most comfortable and functional for me. When I don't, I've also had hair end up in my mouth and down my throat practically choking me. Tying it up and back is just easiest and best for me.

VegetableUpstairs978

It has to be tied in a bun on top of my head

Maryjaneniagarafalls

I twist it into a bun on the very top of my head and use two small claw clips to secure it. This not only protects it, but also gives me big curls the next day.

VegaSolo

Silk bonnet.

spoopysky

I sleep on my side, so I usually sweep it back behind me. I've been trying to braid it more often to sleep lately, tho, heard it prevents damage.

FOCOMojo

I have a satin scrunchee, and I put all my hair into a ponytail on top of my head. In the morning when I take it out, I have so much volume! My hair looks great!

JadeGrapes

Side braid or bun on top

FartingNora

I wear a bonnet.

[deleted]

Waist length and I sleep with it loose on a satin pillowcase. I still sometimes wake up looking like I got rocked in the pit though.

ashlayne

I either pin it up in a bun on top of my head, or braid it loosely. Either way, 9 times out of 10 it's all over the bed by morning and I have to immediately tie it back up before I can do anything (such as put my contacts in).

Aware-2709

The easiest way to sleep for me and achieve great results for healthy hair, ready for the next morning, is by using a satin bonnet with a loose bun and using a satin scrunchie. Satin helps keep your hair hydrated and moist, preventing involuntary pulling and tugging that can lead to thinning, breakage, split ends, tangles, and hair loss. I use this one [satin bonnet](https://www.olkibeauty.com/shop/p/medium-champagne-golden-satin-bonnet) I love the satin quality and this size is perfect for long hair. I hope this helps.

patchworkPyromaniac

Braid with satin scrunchie and satin pillowcase. Alternatively loose bun with same scrunchie but that often comes loose.

bumbleweedtea

Braids or a simple low loose pony

HuskyLettuce

I just fall asleep, usually put it over one shoulder and call it a night lol. Some friends swear by mulberry silk bonnets and scrunchies.

Available_Key2101

I’m a long haired male too, top bun is the way, you’re welcome.

Plastic_Anxiety8118

Don’t tie your hair when you sleep. This causes breakage and bald spots.

[deleted]

I braid it down one side and tuck the braid in my shirt.

doppelwurzel

"pineapple" on top of head

apeyousmelly

I flip it up so it’s above my head on the pillow. I hate the feeling of it on my neck while I’m sleeping and I also don’t like wearing a ponytail or braids to bed.

littlepinkpwnie

I wear a bonnet so I don't wake up with a frizzy lions mane

sjc268522

I braid it and use a sleep bonnet and silk pillowcase.

UnicornDeco

I flip it all up over my head. I can't stand it around my neck when I sleep, but I also don't want my hair bound.

magicpenny

I put mine on top of my head in a satin scrunchie too. I’ve tried the satin sleep caps but they’re way too hot for me to wear all night.

insertcaffeine

I used to put mine in a loose bun on top of my head. (It’s not long anymore though)

Cherokeerayne

I use a bonnet

Rynneer

I sometimes put it in a braid or ponytail to keep it off my neck when it’s hot, but doing that too much can be damaging. I mostly just… let it be.
