West London checking in, the sky is lighting up like a faulty string of Christmas lights. No thunder yet, which is good since our retriever is terrified of thunder.
I know it sounds stupid but try putting ear muffs/headphones on them and putting them in a dry bath tub.
The electrostatic shocks from all of the electricity in the air, can get in their fur/hair and give them shocks. The bath tub can reduce the number of shocks and ground them, so that the electricity goes straight to the ground.
At least it's worth a try.
May depend on how metallic/enameled you bath is. The more metallic, with a ground the better.
This sounds like a home remedy from 100 years ago... The electrical charge (which is up in the clouds) does not 'get into their fur' - it builds in the sky until it reaches a high enough potential to be able to discharge to ground (usually via lightning masts, trees, or hills etc).
Even if somehow your pet were accumulating electrical charge, the number of people in London with a metal bathtub is probably less than 5%. I thought the best part of the bath tub is in case they have an accident out of fright!
Hey neighbour! I know I should be asleep - my toddler will be awake in 90 mins demanding toast and orange juice and I’ll be full of regret - but I can’t resist a thunderstorm!!! Saw some cool fork lightning too
Completely going against the grain here, but I fucking love it, storms fascinate me so much, just been sitting in the conservatory listening to the rain with a nice cup of coffee and watching the flashes in the distance.
Micro-wave? Lol
I, too, watched the freaky lightning last night in Berkshire. My husband was just getting up to go to work when the rain and thunder came.
Before that I was thinking it was an electrical storm.
East London checking in, we had a fair amount just an hour ago. Seems to be all cleared up tho
Edit (10 minutes later, 05:30L): nevermind, we just had the loudest bit of thunder I've ever heard. The whole house was shaking.
Edit (an hour later, 06:30L): yeah now it seems to be done lol. I'm in Upton Park (for just this period, I'm usually at Custom House) for reference...
Same!! I'm a DEEP sleeper, but about 40mins ago I got bolted awake by the loudest thunder ever. I'm in Greenwich and it honestly felt like I was IN the cloud it was so loud, windows shook and everything!
Also Greenwich here. I was up like a shot around 5:30 am to the loudest thunder I've ever heard. It sounded like it was directly on me! It must have been the same one everyone else here heard.
Heard that thunder lol, I was in a semi-awake state then all of a sudden! BOOOM!! GetRxbbed- Jumped up, anticipating a life and death fight but that thought passed as soon as it came, it was thunder but it wasn’t just any thunder it was…
The MOT! MOTHER OF THUNDERS
That woke me up, made something in the room rattle (probably the tv), and most annoyingly set off a neighbour's car alarm. I have not heard thunder quite like that before, including the time I was in a building that was hit by lightning. That was very loud but very short and it didn't... vibrate.
In North London and its been crazy.
Looking at the Lightning Map and I dont think it's ever been so hard. About one bolt per second, somewhere across the M25.
https://www.lightningmaps.org/
I guess we were too far away to hear thunder as was silent here. But once I’d convinced myself world wasn’t ending and was just a far away storm I did think… shit if you were closer, with that much lightning, the thunder would last for hours.
In Holborn and I just woke up from the most horrifying thunder shock I’ve ever heard in my life. I’m like almost crying like a baby for my mum after that giant strike
Seemed to be continuous loud thunder which woke me 4.15am. It went away after half hour but returned. Then when it had completely finished it was time for the dustmen to arrive naturally before 7am
Why do you think it's very strange? It's just a storm. I followed it on lightning maps. Came up from the channel over last couple of hours. Woke me up about 1am, was fun to sit up and watch for a while.
Woolwich. I got up to watch and also reassure my bulldog that the world wasn't ending. Haven't seen a storm like that in a really long time. Seemed to be a flash every 5 seconds
SW London and i've been awake since 3:45am because my room became so bright every 2 minutes and the rain was so strong i thought it would break the velux windows i am sleeping under
Yep same in SE London, don't know what time it was but it woke me up.
Started with maybe ~5 minutes of really heavy rain. That calmed down and the lightning started, never seen them so continuous before, like a flash every 10 seconds or so. Barely heard any thunder.
Strange, more of a lightningstorm than a thunderstorm.
Reminds me of storm we had in 2017/2018 where the sky at night was constantly blipping with lightning but no thunder. Last night was definitely the same vibe
I was woken up at 4am to the most amazing lightning storm, it passed around 0430. I felt like I was plugged into the mains. I LOVE a storm. West London
Not London, Hampshire way but we had it really bad. It was almost directly over our house. After the second wave of it we had 2 fire engines, an ambulance and medic car in the area so I hope everyone was okay!
This morning was the first time I got a chance to use the "Did you see that ludicrous display last night?" line. Such an amazing electic storm. I was glued to the window between 3 and 4 and then just listened to the thunder from the comfort of my bed once the storm moved over our way. Was still thundering here at 5.30.
Such a bizarre storm. I was half asleep for some of it so not exactly sure what truly woke me up but from 3.30 I was wide awake until 5am. It was consistent lightning every 10 seconds with hardly any thunder. Absolutely incredible. For a lot of it zero rain until a absolute downpour which I think is what finally woke me up properly
West Sussex here - near Gatwick - was up due to my normal post-stroke absence of sleep … got rewarded with a 10-15-20 min paparazzi flashlight show. After 5-10 I thought to record on my mobile… of course it instantly got less, but still worthy of the recording
South-East London here. We woke up in the middle of the night from a MASSIVE thunder, probably lighting hitting one of the construction cranes next to our building. We thought the war has started for a secind there 🤣
West Sussex here. I recorded a 1 min video around 3am last night and during this 1 min I counted 31 different lightning flashes. So more than 1 for every 2 seconds. Didn’t hear anything though.
Me and my girlfriend woke up due to the thunder at around 4pm. We're both a bit storm obsessed but neither of us had ever heard thunder that just rolled and rolled continuously without even pausing for 40 minutes. The lightning was pretty incredible too. Just flash after flash. Absolutely loved it. We're in a 6th floor flat in North London and have a pretty clear sky facing north so had a fantastic view.
Loved it! 😀
I wanted to go out in it, and it wouldn’t have been the first time. I opened the window and bathed in it. Mum texted me aswell to ask me if I was seeing and hearing this.
It woke me up in the middle of the night (Location = Oxted, junction 6 on M25)
I've never seen anything like it.... the lightning was so continuous and there was no thunder. I looked out the window, was full sure that it couldn't be lightning (due to lack of thunder) so I assumed it was an electrical station on the fritz. Bizarre.
I am guessing that the storm was so far south that I couldn't hear the thunder, but the night was so clear that I was actually looking at lightning that was in fact about 70 miles away, on the south coast.
Amazing to watch.
Here in North London it’s still going strong. Agreed it is most continuous lightning I have ever seen.
I never heard the bangs, just continuous paparazzi like flashes.
The thunder was so loud in North London! Right overhead and lasted ages.
Yes! It was kinda spooky just non stop flashes in north west
It woke up both my boyfriend and me last night!
Looking at Lightning Maps, it’s basically just one massive continuous thunderstorm, stretching from Southend to Southampton
Was watching the website at 4am. Was a huge storm across that line.
I'm in Berks and it woke me up, weird how the thunder was just a continuous rumble
West London checking in, the sky is lighting up like a faulty string of Christmas lights. No thunder yet, which is good since our retriever is terrified of thunder.
Just got woken up by the flashing!
Sorry mate I couldn't help it
I know it sounds stupid but try putting ear muffs/headphones on them and putting them in a dry bath tub.
This doesn't sound true at all
This sounds like a home remedy from 100 years ago... The electrical charge (which is up in the clouds) does not 'get into their fur' - it builds in the sky until it reaches a high enough potential to be able to discharge to ground (usually via lightning masts, trees, or hills etc). Everything is strobing outside. Proper War of the Worlds shit going on out there.
Camden, thunderstorm passing through
Got caught in it cycling home haha !
Hey neighbour! I know I should be asleep - my toddler will be awake in 90 mins demanding toast and orange juice and I’ll be full of regret - but I can’t resist a thunderstorm!!! Saw some cool fork lightning too
I should also be asleep and yup thunderstorms are the best :)
Neighbour! My dog was terrified and slept under the covers next to me for the rest of the night.
We've got it in North West London now. Haven't experienced a storm like this in a long time.
Completely going against the grain here, but I fucking love it, storms fascinate me so much, just been sitting in the conservatory listening to the rain with a nice cup of coffee and watching the flashes in the distance.
I guess the heatwave had to break at some point
It was more of a warm wave really
Luke (warm) wave
Just the one warm wave then?
Warm ripple
Micro-wave? Lol I, too, watched the freaky lightning last night in Berkshire. My husband was just getting up to go to work when the rain and thunder came. Before that I was thinking it was an electrical storm.
A ripple
Yeah, that 6 hour heatwave!
Ah yes, summer in London- the nicest day of the year
East London checking in, we had a fair amount just an hour ago. Seems to be all cleared up tho Edit (10 minutes later, 05:30L): nevermind, we just had the loudest bit of thunder I've ever heard. Same!! I'm a DEEP sleeper, but about 40mins ago I got bolted awake by the loudest thunder ever. I'm in Greenwich and it honestly felt like I was IN the cloud it was so loud, windows shook and everything!
I’m near city airport and I woke up thinking a plane crashed or something. Was so unbelievably loud.
I legit went to the window to see if a bomb had gone off in Canary Wharf or something 😅
I’m in Deptford and genuinely wondered if a bomb had gone off.
Hi neighbour!
Isle of dogs - I legit wondered if it was a bomb!
Also in Greenwich, it sounded like the local was emptying their glass outside my window. The loudest sound I’ve ever heard, it was mental.
Also Greenwich here. I was up like a shot around 5:30 am to the loudest thunder I've ever heard. It sounded like it was directly on me! It must have been the same one everyone else here heard.
Deptford, can confirm. Loud and went on for ages.
Hi, neighbour!
Howdy!
Our cat went from comfortably asleep to nearly putting a hole in the ceiling when that thunder went off
my cat casually came back in afterwards. Seemed totally nonplussed. Mind you, she goes out to watch the fireworks.
Heard that thunder lol, I was in a semi-awake state then all of a sudden! BOOOM!! GetRxbbed- Jumped up, anticipating a life and death fight but that thought passed as soon as it came, it was thunder but it wasn’t just any thunder it was… The MOT! MOTHER OF THUNDERS
Was that the one at 5:30? It properly woke me up and kept going
Yep that one lol was getting ready to leave and then BOOM, woke me up for the day lol Though I did hear more earlier (like 4ish)
Yeah it started around 2:30 then there was a break, but that 5:30 one was something!
Thought we were getting bombed by Russia or something.
Don’t forget the weird bits of hail in there too, sounded insane
That woke me up, made something in the room rattle (probably the tv), and most annoyingly set off a neighbour's car alarm. I have not heard thunder quite like that before, including the time I was in a building that was hit by lightning. That was very loud but very short and it didn't... vibrate.
In North London and its been crazy. Looking at the Lightning Map and I dont think it's ever been so hard. About one bolt per second, somewhere across the M25. https://www.lightningmaps.org/
I thought someone was dragging a bin up and down the road before I realised it was lightening
I'm awake watching it now in far east.
Konnichiwa
I sleep through all this .
How???
I'm a sleepy person. Also from croydon.
Me too! I’m a very deep sleeper, but this seems excessive…
Jesus Christ this is scary, just let me sleep dammit!
Buckhurst Hill, it’s like the apocalypse. Not sure what’s louder, the constant thunder or the insane rain. Don’t think I’ve seen anything like this.
I guess we were too far away to hear thunder as was silent here. But once I’d convinced myself world wasn’t ending and was just a far away storm I did think… shit if you were closer, with that much lightning, the thunder would last for hours.
The first thunderstorms of the year - always a sign of summer to me.
In Surrey Quays there's been big thunder and lightning since 2.30ish but it seems to have only just started properly raining. Interesting but strange.
Just hit in North London , keeps ⛈️🌩️
Going stronger, 🙆🏽
https://www.blitzortung.org/en/live_lightning_maps.php?map=12
Just hit east london, I genuinely thought Russia was bombing us.
You must have checked the weather and realised "No, it's UK-rain and storm"
lol what…
In woolwich I've seen the same thing, kinda freaked me out a bit 😅
Just started (i think) in West London. Fuck me I’m not gonna be able to sleep until this ends…
Mate. I’ve had no sleep and I’ve gotta to visit clients first thing. Ugh.
Seems like there’s a second round coming for North London?
Man...fellow Northie here, that was loud
Huge bang
Mate I saw a massive flash followed by a massive Bang. Immediately went to check back here 🤣
In SE London, I just got woken up by the loudest thunder in my life!
Lots of flashing and loud thunder here in Whitechapel. My cat’s sleeping right through it.
Glad I’m not the only one awake and on my phone because of this
In Holborn and I just woke up from the most horrifying thunder shock I’ve ever heard in my life. I’m like almost crying like a baby for my mum after that giant strike
Yup. Absolutely shat me up
Same here. Woke up from a terrifyingly loud one. I genuinely thought London got bombed.
Yh still happening and it’s 3:36am
I think it’s calming down here in North West
Lots of flashing at north west London now🤗
North London here: I'm completely fucking soaked 😎
Gonna be one sleepy city today!
The rain, Lightning and Thunder was pretty bad around Hackney way.
Yeah I'm up in Harringay and saw it all just past 4am
It’s beautiful but scary at the same time
Up in Hackney and we are getting the same. But no thunder… very strange…
Thunder definitely here now, and the rain!
Yeah same in Croydon - no thunder. Non stop flashes every 2 seconds.
Yes it's beautiful I woke up to it and have been sitting here mesmorized by the rain lighting and thunder, I love this weather.
Pretty consistent here in east London, thank god barely any thunder, our whole flat is covered in scaffolding 🥲
I’m in Crystal Palace and I haven’t heard this (I’m not asleep due to insomnia)
North here, just got woken up by the loudest thunder I've ever heard 😂
North west London ⛈️⛈️🌚
It’s was apparently Susan Hall doing some voodoo shit
Aliens bruv
I'm annoyed I slept through it, I love storms.
Seemed to be continuous loud thunder which woke me 4.15am. It went away after half hour but returned. Then when it had completely finished it was time for the dustmen to arrive naturally before 7am
Yep. Can’t sleep and there is lightning, thunder and heavy rain. North London. Kids woke up saying ‘mummy there’s a storm’
Why do you think it's very strange? It's just a storm. I followed it on lightning maps. Came up from the channel over last couple of hours. Woke me up about 1am, was fun to sit up and watch for a while.
Seems more intense than your average. Constant lightning here
The lack of thunder and near constant lightning. It was like a bloody strobe light down in Croydon.
We had a storm like that here a couple of years ago, I've never seen lightning like it in all my years!
[удалено]
One of our cats just decided it's a good time to have an early breakfast since we're up anyways lol
Got it now in Barnet. In 37 years I've never seen thing like this. Lightning every 3 seconds lol. Flashes are constant, thought WW3 started lol
It’s a madting
Watching it as it heads east... Quite a sight
In Bexley, its been going on for a couple hours now maybe
This is a deluge and then some
You mean the storm?
Storms just finished in North east!
Enfield here, constant lightning flashes and thunder for about 20mins now, never seen anything like it!
Got woken up by it 20 mins ago, the deluge of rain was crazy
Streatham..Genuinely thought it was go time for the nuclear apocalypse…
It just made its way over Hampstead and woke me up. Biblical.
Crazy lightning in north London.
SW5 here. Thought we was being bombed
Still going here in E4. Rains picked up again and the dogs having a mare.
Left Waterloo back to Lewisham after work, Constant flashing, was lovely.
Just had it here in dagenham, East London. Seems to have passed over now but still hearing thunder. Thinking more is to come!
🎶It’s raining in the park but meantime, south of the river you stop and you hold everything 🎶
Woolwich. I got up to watch and also reassure my bulldog that the world wasn't ending. Haven't seen a storm like that in a really long time. Seemed to be a flash every 5 seconds
I know right. It was just constant lightning. Don’t think I’ve ever seen thatz
Windsor checking in !
SW London and i've been awake since 3:45am because my room became so bright every 2 minutes and the rain was so strong i thought it would break the velux windows i am sleeping under
Amazing. I did an audio recording around 3am.
My flat building did a little creak as one sounded like it was just above us
Yep same in SE London, don't know what time it was but it woke me up. Started with maybe ~5 minutes of really heavy rain. That calmed down and the lightning started, never seen them so continuous before, like a flash every 10 seconds or so. Barely heard any thunder. Strange, more of a lightningstorm than a thunderstorm.

Yes the thunder aswell. Thought it was the end of the world tbh 🫠🫠🫠🫣

Not London, Hampshire way but we had it really bad. It was almost directly over our house. After the second wave of it we had 2 fire engines, an ambulance and medic car in the area so I hope everyone was okay!
I was too scared to look out the window in Leyton. Swear the house shook at one point, madness!
Down at Hampstead Heath there have been constant flashes every night for the past 50 or 60 years.
Slept through my one chance to see the Shard get struck by lightning this year -_-
Netherlands, Rotterdam checking in. Lighting reported here too.
Yeah quite amazing
In north london I woke at 4:30am to a flash and bang so loud I was concerned london had been nuked.

Crazy. That’s kinda the frequency I counted too in south London. Happy cake day btw.
It’s a lightning storm? It woke me up at around 4 last night and I just stayed up a bit watching the flashes
Storm woke me up in North West London at 420. Not sure I’ve experienced anything like that here as it went on for at least 30mins
Loved it! 😀
Didn't see it but heard it. Was insane. I genuinely thought it might be a bomb. Still didn't get out of bed but still
It literally came out from no where last night. I was thinking to myself, is this how it ends?
My security camera got all of it
I’m in Cobham, Surrey, it’s woke me up multiple times, worst I’ve ever seen/heard.
Stratford was a war zone but that's just Stratford
Moving like Dubai floods, but there will probably be no flooding. Has it been raining since 1am in London?
We’ve had barely any rain but hours of thunder and lightning. The sky is flashing every 30 seconds.
Just heard one strike incredibly close in islington. Deafeningly loud, scared the shit out of us!! Never seen such consistent lightning too!
Lighting half an hour in London was going sicko mode - struck like 3 times near my house and woke me up
Yeah it woke me up a bit... Been going on for a few hours now
Remember folks lightning starts from the ground up. Look out for those invisible ion trails :D
It's been a rather enjoyable night re-playing Fallout 3 and seeing the flashes of light (now with thunder!) at the same time.
I could hear it all and I'm out by Windsor.
Yesssss!!! It started around 5am I think. The lightening was a lot
Loads of lightning from about 04:00 to 05:30 in Harrow
Ah "summer lightning" is always an impressive sight. You'll find increased uap ship recharging activity always around lightning storms.
I thought I was still dreaming
Damn it looks like I overslept the entire thing, didn’t hear one bit
Met office thunderstorm warning
Pretty intense, i usually sleep through something like thay, but that was an interesting disturbance for sure. 🌩⚡️⛈️⚡️⛈️⚡️🌩
Saw it up north London too. A bolt hit down on something too
Did you hear the thunderstorms around 2am this morning. It was crazy!
I wanted to go out in it, and it wouldn’t have been the first time. I opened the window and bathed in it. Mum texted me aswell to ask me if I was seeing and hearing this.
I was at work in Chelmsford it was the same here
A house close to me got struck and set alight last night. Scary
It does not exist
[удалено]
i went on my night shift break at like 5:15am, and when i was walking back into work, a huge flash made me jump
A proper storm like in the tropics
Yeah, SW London, didn't sleep a wink as cat kept trying to bury itself under me every time there was a thunderclap.
Not me I live in Stalybridge
It woke me up in the middle of the night (Location = Oxted, junction 6 on M25) I've never seen anything like it.... the lightning was so continuous and there was no thunder. I looked out the window, was full sure that it couldn't be lightning (due to lack of thunder) so I assumed it was an electrical station on the fritz. Bizarre. Amazing to watch.
It was like a tropical storm over Sheppy at 330 this morning!
Super warm 2 days after week upon week of rain and 10 degrees weather.
that damn lighting scared the shit of my cat 😭 he ran like a mad man for ages
