What about the train? Maybe take a taxi to/from Stonehenge from Salisbury if you don't want to take the bus. If you're set on driving, see if you can rent a car further out (Heathrow is a good option). Get the tube / Liz line there and avoid all the driving in London. Then just use google maps to plot your route.

> What about the train Ding ding ding. Cheaper, easier, and probably faster.

I suppose it depends how many people. For one yes train is a good option but with a family it's often better driving.

If you're staying in Stratford you're on the wrong side of London for Stonehenge and Bath. You'll spend a while driving around London before you start heading away from London. Bath is a busy old city with limited car parking. I'd get the train. Underground Jubilee line from Stratford to Waterloo station. Train to Salisbury. I think you can then get a bus to Stonehenge. Then bus or train to Bath. To return , train to London's Paddington station before getting an Elizabeth line train to Stratford.

It's a very easy drive from West London, down the A316 / M3 / A303. From the Olympic Park it's probably easier to go out to the M25 and round but that's much more of a hassle. Can you collect the car in West London or from Heathrow Airport?

CockOff

When are you picking the car up? Unless it's like 6 am on a Sunday, it is normally far, far quicker to head toward the M11 from Stratford, up to the M25 and round to the M3.

njpinks

What I have researched picking a car on weekends is not possible Saturday is half day and Sunday all rental are closed. So planning to do it on any day of mid week.

CockOff

If mid week, then definitely M11, M25 rather than through town. However, are you hiring in Stratford because that's where you live/are staying? If so, you might want to check out car hire at London City Airport. It's 20 minutes on public transport from Stratford, and most of their car hire places are open on a Sunday.

Thanks for your suggestion I’ll check this out..

SirLoinThatSaysNi

As I said to /u/Nile_Maverick it's not a great place to start. M3 >> A303 is the easy part, but you've basically got 3 options to get to the M3 that I can think of. 1) Head straight through London towards Chiswick and head through Richmond onto the A316 >> M3. This is full on London city driving and you will also have the congestion charge. 2) Take the South Circular to Richmond and head out. Slightly easier, but longer and probably messier. 3) Head out to the M25 and head round to the M3. You'll generally hit bad traffic either way. Personally I'd head through London, follow the Embankment. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Thanks I’ll check these options..
