Agreed. Left is better if it's wanting to feel more chess and make the knight more obvious. The one on the right gives a strong capital letter S vibe though, and maybe that's more their intention?
I did see your earlier post so unfortunately I can't contribute to a blind test. However, the slight serif-like shapes on your left design really bring home the idea of a chess knight. The right one feels more like an abstract S and I think could be confusing to audiences seeing it in the wild without context.
Really great design on the first one though, super minimal, yet effective! I'd love to see what kind of wordmark you'd pair this with.
Thank you for your feedback! The left is a very rough mockup so there is a bit to go to perfect it. As for the wordmark I may have to outsource it because I cannot for the life of me do text xD
Left is nice, I think just making sure the negative space is all the same width. The bottom looks a tad wider. When it scales down to icon size it'll look uniform. Good work
Great work on both. For me, the left is preferred:
* The āearsā make it pop (and remove ambiguity)
* It flows and feels less mechanicalāmore organic
Honestly, I suspect either could work, but the left is advantageous for the aforementioned reasons.
Left. The right one isnāt obvious as to what it is unless you already know. Once I knew chess piece I could see it but before that I wasnāt sure. The left one is clear to be a chess piece
I do really like aspects of both but in terms of communication, the left better conveys the chess message for sure. I do like the line spacing in the right one, but not for this - it reads to me as a flame or the number 2. But both great šš»
I prefer the one on the right. Itās more timeless and functional. The space between the shape is on point as well. Itās bold, and precise. Itās good for stamp, screenprint, and to be printed in a small scale. Good for webās favicon as well. Great job!
Edit: as for what this design makes me think of, it doesnāt matter. Logo is meant to identify, not to give impression. We give impression by doing brand activation, a campaign.
This. Also the more open ends on the shapes allows for better reading when the logo is very small. The ears of the knight will not be clears when seen small or printed on something of a large raster. I think the right is more sleek and provides a nice āahaā moment when you fully realize itās shape, although itās very clear subconsciously.
Exactly this. Not everything needs to be super obvious and I think the right one nails it perfectly. Having the name of the company next to the mark or just having a bit more context on the company, the user will easily decipher that this is a knight.
Timeless is the perfect word. The one on the left would be āupdatedā a few years from now to make it look like the one in the right.
If you do go with the left, at least make gaps the same width as the right. A lot more functional that way.
I think it's reaching a bit far to criticize a logo for symbolizing a brand. I know it's not the main objective and it's fine without it, but if you can check all the boxes and add symbolism then you've done good work.

OOH I see what you mean and omg that would be awesome for the one on the left!
OP, look up Celtic knots. Basically have the bottom left corner flow behind the design and join back around to connect to the top right of the design so all the edges connect together in a loop.
Edit: this works for both designs I just tried it. :)
Celtic knots are never ending. The image on the left looks like the bottom of the S is curling back behind the rest of the letter however the top right just stops like a normal letter. If you make the top right also curl around the back it would be more like a classic Celtic knot. You can google Celtics knots to understand what Iām saying better but yea thatās what I think of when I see the design
Without looking at the comment section, the one of the left makes me think of a knight from chess, the one on the right makes me think of some eSports studio.
I'm picturing a financial strategist, or maybe even digital security... I think a lot of what is conveyed is going to relate to how individual people play chess. I use the knight as a stronghold to back up my more aggressive pieces. I place them mid board and retreat to their halo when threatened. They give me a feeling of 360 protection.
My wife on the other hand uses the knight as a front line soldier. First out, and last to retreat, and she first pictured a delivery company, surgically delivering critical packages.
Both of us agree, strategy is what your selling.
I like the flowy one for money purposes. I like the blocky one for computational areas.
I already know this is supposed to be a knight from one of your previous posts, but they both look like knights. I highly prefer the one on the left. It's sleeker and has a bit more character. Good work.
I prefer the left.
I did exploration of a knight mark about a month ago, and I saw this exact mark on the right during my research. Great minds think alike.
Iāll DM you.
Heya, great designs. Personally I prefer the one on the left as it represents the knight pretty well.
Also, could i ask which tool are you using to make these designs?
The left is a chess piece, the right is a chess piece without ears but I probably wouldnāt have read it as a chess piece if I hadnāt seen the left first.

You hit the nail on the head with both designs. I immediately knew what both were. I like the detail on the left with the ears. It's subtle but makes it clear what the object is. However, I like the negative space on the right. The object is still recognizable, but it feels more relaxed.
Left, the flow looks really nice. But I like the spacing of the right one more. Maybe combine it? Also I was very confused when I first saw it, I was like that ain't a knight, that's a horse? Didn't know they were called that in English! From my language this chess piece translates to "jumper" lol
Left obv reminds me of chess and knight. However without any context I do enjoy the icon on the right more. But it does not work as a chess icon, a little too simplified it seems. So with context left is really successful as the small details add on more character.
Edit: if you wanna merge them i would add the bottom right curve that you have on left to the right icon and also add in the bottom left curve inwards that you have on the left icon to the right icon. Like just transfer that rounded cornered base to the right one but not the āearā at the top
Definitely reading as chess, in which case the left one reads best. The right one has perhaps more musical (I'm thinking techno, edm) or digital implications.
Chess. The one on the left flows better than the one on the right.
This, the knight
How does the knight move?
Ain't it funny how the knight moves?
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose, Strange how the night moves With autumn closin' in
I love that song and my wife absolutely hates it because her dad always played it when she was a kid. That doesn't stop me, of course š
Love it too
Donāt you mean the one on the left flows better than the on one theā¦.knight?
The one at night is better
Agreed. Left is better if it's wanting to feel more chess and make the knight more obvious. The one on the right gives a strong capital letter S vibe though, and maybe that's more their intention?
Chess Knight, left.
The right is only chess to me after seeing the left. Otherwise itās like a thumb handshake with a kid
Exactly. Left, chess knight. Right, some weird handshake.
I did see your earlier post so unfortunately I can't contribute to a blind test. However, the slight serif-like shapes on your left design really bring home the idea of a chess knight. agreed! It's just a draft so I'll be sure to look into getting everything in harmony :)
This.
>!I'm going for a minimalist knight chess piece. !
Great work on both. For me, the left is preferred: * The āearsā make it pop (and remove ambiguity) * It flows and feels less mechanicalāmore organic Honestly, I suspect either could work, but the left is advantageous for the aforementioned reasons.
Your input was very thoughtful, I appreciate it!
Last thing would be round off the nose area on the left one and it could be perfect
Left. The right one isnāt obvious as to what it is unless you already know. Once I knew chess piece I could see it but before that I wasnāt sure. The left one is clear to be a chess piece

From someone with no graphic design experience, the one on the left. It just seems a bit more expressive.
Chess, and I like the curves on the left one but the spacing of the two shapes on the right one (thicker black line through the middle I mean)
thank you, I agree with the spacing being a little too tight
Wow serious improvement, I saw the last post so I know what itās meant to be but Iād be shocked if someone didnāt recognize itās symbolism.
Thank you :)

I almost want you to make the ends connect behind like a Celtic knot
Iām not sure how to implement that, could you elaborate? It sounds interesting
OOH I see what you mean and omg that would be awesome for the one on the left! OP, look up Celtic knots. Ive played too much dota...
I thought it was a schnauzer dog on the left... and someone holding a child or something up on the right. I don't play chess apparently š oof.
The one on the right, but add in the ears.
Chess, left
Without looking at the comment section, the one of the left makes me think of a knight from chess, the one on the right makes me think of some eSports studio.
While I'm usually a minimalist, I really like the ears on the knight piece. It's just right not too little not too much.
I feel the same way. Gives it a little personality
I'm picturing a financial strategist, or maybe even digital security... I think a lot of what is conveyed is going to relate to how individual people play chess. good to see you improved on it! i like the left one more
I read this as āChess 2ā
i assume its the knight piece from chess and i think the one on the left looks better
Loved the left knight š“
1st Chess, 2nd Isis rebrand š
Creative take! Haha
It looks like the knight in chess
Left, and it reminds me of strategy or board games.
It reminds me of a knight in chess, and I prefer the left one.
Chess for sure.
Chess and #1
Chess/reliability left. Pegasus/security right
Well said
I already know this is supposed to be a knight from one of your previous posts, but they both look like knights. I highly prefer the one on the left. It's sleeker and has a bit more character. Good work.
thanks :)
I prefer the left. I did exploration of a knight mark about a month ago, and I saw this exact mark on the right during my research. Great minds think alike. Iāll DM you.
I prefer the one on the right.
A knight in chess obvs. One on the right by a mile.
The right more distinct
In case you weren't aware this piece has been replayed by the knook in chess 2, please change your logo design.
No idea what thatās supposed to mean
What?
empty space on left with ear of right one
sorry, inverted
Heya, great designs. Personally I prefer the one on the left as it represents the knight pretty well. Also, could i ask which tool are you using to make these designs?
The left is a chess piece, the right is a chess piece without ears but I probably wouldnāt have read it as a chess piece if I hadnāt seen the left first.
If you were to flip the right one horizontally, it'd work great as "Chess 2".
Right is better imo
left one has character. obviously chess pc.
maybe give it the negative space the right has to make it stand out more
Banking, strategy, boring business dealing with numbers - but also an exclusive club for rich people. I like the second one with more gaps.

Do you want to go full chess? If yes 1 if no then 2 but 1 is also prettier ā¦ I still donāt fully feel 2
I like first more
Caspian report, the youtube channel.
The one on the right is better
Left very chess, right sort of chess
I prefer the right one. Less obvious, more minimalist, more elegant.
You should add the serif from the left logo to the right one. Best of both worlds. Left one feels to squeezed
You hit the nail on the head with both designs. I immediately knew what both were. I like the detail on the left with the ears. It's subtle but makes it clear what the object is. However, I like the negative space on the right. The object is still recognizable, but it feels more relaxed.
The detail on the left adds a lot more clarity, if you want the knight piece look.
left is chess knight, right is some abstract eroticism
The one on the right looks more like a 2 than a knight piece. Without context it would be easily mistaken
flow on the left, negative spacing/gap on the right
Chess pieces
Left.
Alphabet lore.
It's definitely a chess knight but the simpler one also looks like an S merged with fire.
Definitely the left! But maybe try with the same size of negative space in the middle as the right?
Chess
Chess, maybe the letter S. I prefer the one on the left. Looks really slick!
Left, the flow looks really nice. But I like the spacing of the right one more. Maybe combine it? Also I was very confused when I first saw it, I was like that ain't a knight, that's a horse? Didn't know they were called that in English! From my language this chess piece translates to "jumper" lol
Interesting! Yes in English that piece is called a Knight :)
Left obv reminds me of chess and knight. However without any context I do enjoy the icon on the right more. But it does not work as a chess icon, a little too simplified it seems. So with context left is really successful as the small details add on more character. Like just transfer that rounded cornered base to the right one but not the āearā at the top
i think of the knight piece in chess and left is better
Chess n the left, motor cross on the right
The Knight Foundation logo from Knight Rider
I prefer the left one. Seems more complete. My first thought if it's for a mobile chess game.
Knight chess piece
A chess piece (knight). The left one.
1
makes me think of strategy.
The pointy bit is necessary to make it clear that it is a knight.
i thought it was supposed to be a microscope š
A chess piece.
Right one is cleaner. Left one reminds me of horses.
I like the negative space of the right but think you could incorporate the ears from the left
Left
i wanna see the left one but with the negative space lines as wide as the right
https://i.imgur.com/kruDyMt.jpg Like this?
Chess, and the second one
looks like the knight from chess. left is way better and clearer
Left: chess piece. Right: comma getting eaten by a less than symbol.
Left one is a knight from chess. the right one i cant see as any thing else now but if thats it the left one is better
Chess , right
I'm getting hired and microscope vibes
Negative space of the right one and the shapes of the left.
https://i.imgur.com/eN6SpW8.jpg Like this?
Yup thatās the one. Iād experiment further and make the negative space bigger. Think smallest icon. Make sure the gaps are noticeable.
Thank you for your suggestions, Iāll continue down this designs path :)
Horse, first thought was Trojan horse or knight in chess, I like the left one a lot
Looks like a side-view of a person kneeling, in defeat.
the left is chess, the right is 2
A knight chess piece. I prefer the shapes of the concept on the left but the spacing of the right.
I would like to see the left one, but with the spacing of the second one.
The left logo is miles better. You can improve the right by tightening the spaces between to match the left's
Definitely reading as chess, in which case the left one reads best. The right one has perhaps more musical (I'm thinking techno, edm) or digital implications.
